  • New Druid Minion - Groovy Cat

    Total Druid Death

  • New Hunter Minion - Mister Mukla

    Even Hunter?

Tempting if they have not much minions.

  • New Hunter Spell - Stranglethorn Heart

This card's play win-rate cannot be high. At least for the next expansion anyway.

There's simply not many beasts you can set this up for the win, and all the best beasts are so goddamned expensive this card will be ludicrously inconsistent. The best you can hope for is setting up big dreams for an Amplified Elekk or King Krush so you can just straight up play this on 10. Because any time beyond turn 10 Im not sure hunter can actually survive it.

At very least it has tradeable. Because there's so many matches where this card is just straight up redundant. So at least youre not screwed with this card in hand all the time.

But whatever misgivings I may have, this card is definitely a card that can only get better.

  • New Hunter Minion - Mister Mukla

10/10 rush should kill nearly anything at turn 6 and survive. Then there's the fact that your opponent may just burn their critical combo piece. Nice card.

  • New Druid Minion - Zok Fogsnout

So is the minions' attack tied to the hero's attack and the health tied to the armor? Since you would only have 3 mana to spend gaining attack or armor, I don't see how you could get anything that big from this. Unfortunately for this card, Armorsmith + Whirlwind are Warrior cards.

  • New Hunter Spell - Stranglethorn Heart

I guess this is a finisher for a Big Beast Hunter deck. I really like that it's tradeable so it doesn't have to sit in your hand being useless for an entire game.

Haven't played hearthstone in a while (blame Marvel Snap) but holy fuck, Groovy Cat and Spread the Word will skyrocket even druid from niche to at least high tier 3. I can't overstate just how insane these two cards are in that deck. You can even (hehe) tutor Groovy Cat with Living Seed (Rank 1).

Guess I'm going back in again oh darkness my old friend.

    Thanks, everyone!

It's pretty wild that it almost took a miracle for me to reach the finals (one person was DQd; if they hadn't, I would've been out) and then ended up winning. The votes of these comps are something else 🥴

I'm always very self-conscious of how people feel about the fact that I often have multiple cards ready to go for each competition as soon as it starts since the staff have the liberty of knowing the competition theme before it starts. The actual advantage we get from this is negligible since we easily could've ended up making the cards in the middle of the competition instead of the start of it, but I imagine it's probably easy for a lot of people to end up not viewing it that way.

Embodiment of Light also brings up talking about Divine Shield in Priest which (not counting dual-class cards) only appears on Unidentified Elixir and Mi'da, Pure Light. It is a rarely used mechanic for the class, but there is some precedence for it. Not to mention, I think it makes sense for the class thematically just as well as it does for Paladin. I think it makes more sense than using it in Shaman anyway (looking at you, Al'Akir, Torghast Custodian, and Brass Elemental).

Overheal is a very flexible mechanic in terms of application. There's tons of room to get creative, so I'm excited to see what you all have to offer.

    My first two ideas:

Northshire Steward is just a Taunt that can get bigger. A pretty obvious design, but I think it can be a useful tool for Control/Midrange decks with lots of healing.

Undercity Acolyte rewards you for having healing of different amounts, allowing you to snipe specific minions. Its low Cost is justified by the fact it can kill itself with the Hero Power.

Just a little bit of info on how Overheal is phrased.

Overheal is written like a state-based action on effect that's always available to trigger while on the board. Overheal triggers are checked when the card with Overheal itself is healed past its maximum Health, therefore you can't write a spell with "Overheal: [effect]" because spells don't have Health.

We don't have any actual precedence for this just yet since we don't have any spells with Overheal abilities, but if there's any lick of consistency with the way the keyword works, the correct wording would be "If this Overheals" of "If this Overhealed". We don't know which one they will actually use (we do have Dreamboat as an example of using "Overhealed", but we otherwise have no precedence for effects occurring on a single target). For the moment, we will treat both of those as correct.

Refer to the picture I made below on Overheal spell wording.

Congrats to Wailor! The race for the finish is heating up :D

  • There's No Heal Like Overheal - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

My idea initially started with "what if a Shadow spell utilized Overheal?" and then it evolved to "what if the card was about not Overhealing?"

I imagine this would have a hard cap, for when the board becomes empty, to avoid infinite loops. Otherwise, I'll reword it.

Edit: Came up with Ayla just now, thought it was funny. She heals them so much they explode XD I think it should function like a Volcano in reverse: when a spark hits someone full Health, they are deemed destroyed and it'll move on to other minions.

Competition Theme: There's No Heal Like Overheal

I'm holding out for a healer! Get me a medic, on the double!

    • You must design a Priest card that utilizes Overheal.
      • The card can have Overheal or interact with the mechanic; either is acceptable.

Our minions were all damaged in the last competition; now Wassculaire wants to benefit from healing 'em back up!

As always, we can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.

  • All Day 8 Card Reveals for Hearthstone's Festival of Legends Expansion

I still think any decent deck that plays for board will destroy this hp druid any day.

This is near pre-nerfed kingsbane rogue level of obnoxious, but like that deck its only ever going to win if it draws the nuts or against control decks. All other decks will likely just roll over them.

  • All Day 8 Card Reveals for Hearthstone's Festival of Legends Expansion

Lol, so team5 decided with their infinite wisdom to push druid towards hp this expansion. And also in typical druid fashion, sought to make the thing as hideously powerful (or perfectly useless) as possible.

The two primary cards, Free Spirit and Groovy Cat both add 2 attack and armor each, making it a whooping 4 per game (assuming you cant discover/generate more). That means at some point druid is basically an amped up Bloodreaver Gul'dan.

So what could go wrong? Well, firstly this kind of gameplay gets completely walled by taunts, and secondly its slow as hell. Most druids do tend to be slow like that, but imagine building your entire deck around this and then only drawing two out of the four for the first 6 turns. Most aggro decks would already have won by then and midrange decks would be halfway through. The comparison with odd warrior and hp mage is obvious but also inaccurate; both these archetypes can stall and have no problems dealing with board. Druids on the other hand, dont have the same advantage.

Druids are facing a tough time because rotation hurts them far more than any other class. Unless the second druid legendary brings up a whole new wincon it'll need all the help it can get from this hp archetype.

This turn because of the armor and attack buff guys

  • All Day 8 Card Reveals for Hearthstone's Festival of Legends Expansion

Even worse, if they use no other beasts, they can easily tutor these guys with Peaceful Piper. So there will be very few games where their hp doesn't become a problem very early on. Wasn't the reliability of hero powers from the get-go the entire reason Genn and Baku rotated early? And I'm pretty sure the non-existent deck limitation here is a bit less than what those two enforced.

  • New Druid Minion - Free Spirit

Suck it Wildfire this is amazing!

  • All Day 8 Card Reveals for Hearthstone's Festival of Legends Expansion

Add Unending Swarm in there for some real funny stuff.

+15/+15 on each Hero POwer is possible now.

Good luck to anyone trying to make a different lategame strategy possible

  • All Day 8 Card Reveals for Hearthstone's Festival of Legends Expansion

Free Spirit is a rather neat card, for slower druid decks the more valuable part of their hero power is the armor gain and this increases it. I think this would take the slot of Armor Vendor in slower druid decks but maybe this is to slow. In attack druid decks like the now rotating Lost in the Park druid this does help the survivability. In wild unless I’m missing something this card conflicts with Oaken Summons In non-odd variants of ql druid. Though maybe odd variants might like it. Also this can be tutored rather easily with Peaceful Piper.

Groovy Cat Is also neat. The attack is of course more valuable for the aggressive decks and this works nicely with Spread the Word. Maybe a control deck will make use of this like Wildfire in mage except with 50% more damage off just one of these. In wild this has to overcome the hurdle that is being worth running over Oaken Summons in ql druid. I don’t think it’s quite good enough for that, but maybe. Also this  can be tutored with Peaceful Piper.

Spread the Word - If there is a druid deck that gains a bunch of attack this is an obvious inclusion.

Zok Fogsnout - why on earth does he say this turn? If Unless I’m missing something he really sucks. Maybe he’d be good if it was last turn, but right now I don’t see him finding a place anywhere
