Honestly, I'm a fan of this card in a lot of ways. The one thing Hearthstone has always lacked was proper ways to interact with one's hand. We saw that earlier with Glide which most cases isn't going to be hand disruption and instead just reload in my opinion, but this is the first card to really feel like proper hand interaction. It's not pushed stat-wise, the ability provides an interesting play style in the same way Madame Lazul does and I overall really like that feeling.
The issue is that this thing is limited to DH. You could easily just change Outcast to a battlecry and if it becomes too strong, just hit the stats a little bit. This type of interaction would revolutionize Hearthstone, which I'd argue is for the better. This is a big whiff to me since given that its a legendary, it is safe to assume we won't see a similar effect for at least a year or two.
This card is Illidan Stormrage's scrapped Battlecry from the alpha build of Hearthstone.
Prior to Alpha Patch 1, Illidan was a 7 Mana 7/7 with Battlecry: Both players discard 3 cards and draw 3 cards.
Obviously shuffling rather than discarding makes this less a complete middle finger to combo decks and more a half-raised middle finger to combo decks.
how do you play around it? It gives the Demon Hunter info on your hand and it just burns one of your cards for no cost. How does this ever backfire unless you somehow manage to have 3 useless cards in hand?
same way you play around lazul, have a lot of cards in hand
Okay, i needed a few minutes to think about this one. Silence is a niche effect that is mostly effective in certain metas (like deathrattle or taunt heavy ones). Other than that, it's just mostly used by aggro decks to bypass taunts. This is a rush card and it's supposed to make an immediate trade thus killing a minion which would make the silence not relevant. After thinking a little bit more i remembered those disgusting keyword combinations (taunt + deathrattle, taunt+ reborn) and the existence of "Can't be targeted by spells or Hero Powers". Also, technically it could live one extra turn and you could get an extra attack and more silences out of it. That's most likely never gonna happen though. So, this card has it's niche uses (it's better against Winged Guardian). However, it's still just a tech, the stats are bad and it will never hit more than once (most likely). Can DH afford a slot for something like this when they have access to Consume Magic which is the strongest silence in the game? Probably not. I'm not impressed or scared by this. It would be a completely different story if they didn't already had a powerful silence but that's not the case. Also, Kayn Sunfury exists. And it should burn in hellfire.
Even reading all the comments, I think it's a great card. Almost all rush minions ever were playable, and silence was run a lot even with subpar stats. And this can target elusive minions! And there is always the possibility that this lives for another turn.
I had to rub my eyes to make sure I was seeing the article title right. Sure enough, Avalon will probably be eating something that resembles a shoe. Now I want to see an article about why Echo knows some much about Croc digestion!
Wow - good card , but only if you use it with Outcast! I mean the stats are good for 4 Mana so i guess it would not be to bad to tempo play this card but if you use it with the Outcast it is hella strong - at least in my oppinion :)
Decent card - with Decent Stats and a nice ability - but i'm not sure if this is realy needed or if you simply would play Consume Magic instead. I mean yes, you get a minion on the board so maybe this will find it's way in some decks.
Why is anyone making the argument that Outcast is in any way a setback?
You throw this into the same deck as glide where you run only the lowest curve possible (Skull no longer necessary). Then you just play this at any point and remove one way for your opponent to beat you. There's pretty much 0-chance that this won't hit something important.
This will either get nerfed to 5 or 6 mana within a week or get reworked entirely to just swap the card with one in the deck (so you can't actually remove a card from their hand with no counterplay)
The cost and stat line of Professor Putricide, with an effect that's more powerful than Madame Lazul's with the outcast requirement.
having knowledge of your opponents hand is always valuable, and being able to remove a strong card against a control or combo matchup is HUGE.
That said despite her powerful ability I do not see this minion in the current Tempo DH lists that have been used to climb legend. this effect, cost and statline seems more in tune with a mid-range DH deck than the aggressive tempo deck.
What's more this legendary minion is not a win condition such as Altruis or Kayne Sunfury, but will help you win more by planning around your opponents cards in hand.
how do you play around it? It gives the Demon Hunter info on your hand and it just burns one of your cards for no cost. How does this ever backfire unless you somehow manage to have 3 useless cards in hand?
I'd advise something made out of leather. Explorers in very dire situations would sometimes resort to eating things like leather straps and candles when they were starving in the wilderness, cooked with certain herbs.
I'm gonna open my packs and stay away for the next two weeks after launch until Demon Hunter is nerfed out of existence.
Apparently glide wasn't bad enough, now you can just MINUS YOUR OPPONENT'S HAND for basically free while also getting intel on the rest of their cards. No way to play around it.
Hand advantage is EVERYTHING in Hearthstone and the Hand is the only thing that never gets fucked with. This has been an unspoken rule. Mill has been deleted from standard and any sort of enemy hand manipulation is spread far and few between and can at least be played around (aka Mukla, and the Demon from DoD that noone plays)
This violates so many design principles it's not even funny.
And you know what the worst thing is? If it wasn't for Glide I wouldn't even be mad. As a 1-of legendary this would be fine to print (even if it would have to be nerfed to 5-mana eventually)...but with Glide in the mix you are literally unable to play Control vs Demon Hunter.
They'll keep punching you in the face and reemove all options to you have to deal with them. Taunt? Kayn. Go Wide? Altruis. PLay bigger stuff? Kreen.
Fuck it, bring back Mill Rogue and old Yogg while you're at it. Unnerf all Druid cards and revert Warsong Commander. Rules mean nothing, it's a 1v9 meta.

I have just one question: is the silence going to occur first or the actual attack i.e. can it kill a buffed to 3/2 Battlefiend without dying itself?
