  • Demonxz95's Custom Time Traveler Class II - Hearthstone Fan Community Spotlight

Well although it's a couple months after I shared it, my big custom drawn expansion flew under everyone's radar, might be a good one to showcase and I'd like to see a couple more eyes on it.

The procedure for how I choose what projects get featured has actually been exactly the same since the series first started. What happens is that if I find a project that I think deserves a spot on the series, I get in touch with the creator, ask if they want to be featured, and then just send them a list of questions.

Right now, there just seems to be a lack of projects.

I'm surprised there has been a drought as well, what's the procedure for finding new community spotlights like nowadays? I remember being invited back when I made my old Dawn of Desolation set, no clue how it works now.

I'll use the occasion of reaching 1.000 wins with Warlock for posting my first update of the year. The now nerfed Wild Discolock helped me over the treshold after having grinded 140 wins in 11 days which was quite an unhealthy thing to do.

That's also already the second tick on my new year's resolutions after having hit Wild legend with Shaman in January. Only the 500 wins with Shaman left, but I just don't get along with that class. Maybe I'll just focus on achieving one win per day or something. Other than that I have no current objectives. I'd really like to get the 1.000 wins portraits for Rogue and Demon Hunter, but both still have a long way to go so I just play whatever I feel like.

Edit: Holy mother of Yogg. If I assume the average game takes 6 minutes and that I have an all time win rate of 50%, I end up having played ranked Hearthstone for 67,3 whole days of my life. That's... pretty crazy.

    (8075 ranked wins * 6 minutes * 2 [50% win rate] = 96900 minutes = 1615 hours = 67,3 days)

  • [Game] Card Treasure Hunt (Hearthstone Riddles)

No apology needed - you assumed we were knowledgeable about both bugs and Duels, a reasonable error.

I will think of a new riddle tomorrow and my goal will be to have it guessed in fewer tries than the Cleaver of Woe.

  • So I hit masters easily and I feel nothing

I did it with a meta deck like a "serious good" player.

Am I just like Majin now?

Can I join the cool kids club because I piloted a broken meta deck with a possitive winrate to beat all the other broken decks?

I even won the mirror or into Jayce Lux.

Long and short of it I got sweaty and tried hard for the first time ever since I started LOR

And I did it from gold in 2 - 4 hour play sessions.

That means I won what 70% of games?

But with elites that ain't hard so who cares.

But at the end of the day I guess the haters were wrong this meme king can also meta king.

    Sorry just built different.

Yep doesn't matter how much time passes now everyone will know a dirty casual hit masters like it was nothing at all...or maybe I'm secretly decent who knows. Maybe it's both I'm simultaneously the worst and also the best?

I can live with that the worst top 10,000 player that ever memed in lor.

    -----edit----

I was wrong on average each server has 5,000 masters players making me one of the top 5,000 LOR players in North America.

God don't tell Redit they'll have an aneurysm, they hate my care free, casual but competitive attitude.  They thought I couldn't do it, nah you gotta try hard and use a deck tracker, and spend money on the game.

Nope top 5,000 free to play, full on casual.

I thought of dragging, but I was thinking I liked this more unforgiving method better. Plus it would be faster. I don't think it's more unforgiving than other things during gameplay, and players would learn. As I said, I prefer picturing it like a physical deck and you put the cards on top one at a time.

I guess card 31 would go into extra cards then, then you could move cards to the extra pile to make a legal deck or delete them (or 41 if a certain prince is in the deck). Probably would take less effort than implementing the runestone system DK has.

Glad you asked that because this is a question I asked myself when I first made the class and didn't have an answer, but fortunately I had some other people help me figure it out. The way Glimpse works in my head is that you'd drag the cards over and then the order of the cards from left-to-right is exactly the order you draw them.

I will admit that the 3 extra cards is pretty difficult to figure out. My thought is that cards are added to the main 30-card deck by default and then you can drag cards in and out of the extra pile.

  • Demonxz95's Custom Time Traveler Class II - Hearthstone Fan Community Spotlight

How do you see the interface for Glimpse working? I picture it being like physical cards where you put them on top of your deck in reverse order of how you want to draw them, and you click/tap to choose until they've all been put on top, much like Discover but you need to click/tap more than one.

Also, you clearly don't need to since this will never be in real Hearthstone (and I would think it would be someone else's job to figure that out), but did you put any thought into how the deck building interface would work with Fesh Krieger and the extra three cards? Given the extra cards thing in the real game, my first idea of cards after the 30th going into the side-pile might not work so well. Though maybe main deck->side-pile->extras could work, but there's still questions of how it would work when cards are removed.

  • How To Win In A 2 Deck Meta

God you guys are dumb the whole point is to brew against the meta not against me.

I play memes, what does beating me do?

Make you feel like u suck less till the actual meta deck comes along and turns your face into a skateboard?

  • How To Win In A 2 Deck Meta

Now the only problem is that while beating elites is easy, yes I said it being slightly overstated doesn't make your deck have superior wincons all it can do is play linearly while you can do anything you want.

I dont know what beats Jayce Lux right now.

It used to be that they would just run out of steam of have to go all in on progress day.

But now they can literally play 6 mana to draw two cards with 3 mana banked and 3 mana refunded they get to keep a second 6 mana spell online for free.

That means that punishing windows etc. Are very hard to find.

I think hallowed should work well on paper. It's pretty happy to see you trade off or cast spells on units that mean nothing and you just Harrowing to win.

So red Gwen, qwin Gwen, some rally heavy brew, a lot of this stuff is probably harder to control. Or you could try yetis again the 5/5 statline is immune to shock blast, and you also have the likes of thralls.

Just turbo out 8/8 statlines that p&z demacia don't have the tools to deal with.

What do you think guys how do we counter brew the other biggest meta deck?

  • How To Win In A 2 Deck Meta

I'm gonna give a real life example of brewing to victory.

I'm playing Lucian Heckarim a deck with a 40% winrate if we want to be charitable probably 30%.

Against elites a 57% winrate deck, so how do I win, I think that before I mulligan, before I click start, before the game has even begun I think how do I win 100% of this game...and only this game.

    The answer?

Challenger landmark, I simple drag every single superior value engine the opponent has off the board and into the shadow realm.

I even trade my Lucian into their dog, why?

Cuz dog is top tier and Lucian is just a card.

I win by a landslide with the opponent being on double Smith which is optimal for your standard hard-core face smash at speed playstyle.

Drag, drag, drag with my ephemerals, hate spike, hate spike, the opponent doesn't even get to play the game.

So I won three times, I won when I brewed the deck, and I won off the agressive mulligan, and I won off my individual plays.

Thats how you brew to win.

Whoever this person was and I hope it wasnt a "good" player hit concede soooo fast it crashed my game. True story.

  • How To Win In A 2 Deck Meta

Elites are very good right now they are the best aggro deck.

And Jayce is the best control deck.

All right were done let's go home guys.

Lor has the largest cardpool in its history accessible only for the next 30 days.

But lets see if we can make immortal kegs work.

Instead of you know actually making decks that actually do things.

I guess this is what it means to be spoiled for choice and choosing nothing.

But I'll tell you guys I don't forget a single deck and I can tell you they all have their merits.

Did bandle die because elites got 1 card?

    No

Did noxious die because P and Z got draw?

    No

Did every single pre-built archetype die for no reason?

    No

The reality is I'm seeing an unprecedented amount of brewing laziness while everyone just waits for rotation to tell them what to play.

You know what's better then immortal kegs and was actual a real deck at one point?

Shadow isles bilgewater ping control or kegs thresh gangplank.

Why not try building a non dumb deck with them?

I dont know when everyone got so bad at the game honestly, where's mogwai and swim when you need them.

  • Captains of the Rift - A Custom Expansion and Class! (WIP)

Shout-out to Demonxz95 for reinvigorating my desire to see this through - you're also the reason behind the Doomhammer archetype haha :)

  • Captains of the Rift - A Custom Expansion and Class! (WIP)

It's been a while, but I'm back with another installment of custom card fare. This one is exciting because it's both a new class and a new expansion to go with it! I've mostly done one or the other, but I'm gonna try my hand at pulling off the Demon Hunter/Death Knight experience of releasing both simultaneously. I originally started this project right after Voyage to the Sunken City, but lost motivation until now; since then, we've seen locations, Undead, dual minion types, and the Death Knight class added to the game - that's a lot of extra stuff to consider! This is a Work In Progress and everything you see is of the first-draft variety, so feedback is certainly welcome :) Without further ado, let's begin!

    New Class: Time Pirate

Time Pirates are interlopers who herald from the future, gallivanting across time and space in search of adventure...and of course, treasure. Collecting dissenters from all along the time-line, their crew is made up of a large variety of species; as such, while they naturally include Pirates, they are in fact a true Menagerie of various minion types cobbled together. They utilize their high-tech gadgets and knowledge of time itself to outwit their opponents, always ready to make their escape. But when things get dicey, there's nothing more dangerous than a Time Pirate backed into a corner with nothing to lose, so be ready for anything!

    Gameplay Summary

Captain Aldrax's gameplay is a twist on expected Pirate play-patterns: these aren't your run-of-the-mill scallywags. I will admit I have spent more time on the expansion and existing classes than on the Time Pirate itself, but this is a general run-down of what might be in the class:

    • Slower Pirate archetypes - This isn't just "play Pirates, play weapons, go face". I want this to be a slower, more tactical version of the Pirate. You can be aggressive, certainly, but that's not all that will be available.
    • Menagerie synergies - Elementals, Dragons, the occasional Beast; bringing together disparate groups is what makes a Time Pirate crew!
    • Pillage keyword - As you can see below, "Pillage" provides a bonus of some kind if you already damaged the enemy hero that turn. With cheap triggers like the Hero Power, you can weave in strong, tempo-reclaiming plays.
    • Gadgets to get out of situations - Time Pirates have all sorts of tricks up their sleeves, gathered from across time.
    • Secrets? - Probably falls under the "gadget" scenario listed above.
    • A second ramp class? - Future-tech should be more efficient in its energy usage, after all. Yeah, I know, Druid is fairly problematic in this regard, but maybe we can compete for the space while not destroying the game in the process >_>

    Time Pirate Cards

As this is very much a Work In Progress, you won't find a lot here right now; that said, I'll be working on it as long as my motivation takes me lol. Check back for more updates!

New Expansion: Captains of the Rift

As the Time Pirates make themselves known to the people of present-day Azeroth, they unwittingly open up a huge time rift from within the Maelstrom. That brings with it monsters, mayhem, and all sorts of trouble from across Azeroth's time-line. The Time Pirate being about, well, time shenanigans, this is a golden opportunity to explore various characters from Warcraft's past, present, and future, and possibly all three at the same time! Here's a quick summary of what to expect:

    • Creatures, characters, and objects from across time - Reoccurring villains, variations of the same character in different classes; when you're making an expansion about time manipulation, expect the irregular. We don't know how Chromie can keep up!
    • Tribal support across the board - No class will go without some form of support for a minion type, and some might even be lesser-utilized combinations, like Mech Shaman and Dragon Demon Hunter.
    • Legacy weapons - "Legacy" is a new evergreen keyword given to weapons/items that have been passed down over time and cannot be truly destroyed. It is essentially Kingsbane's everlasting effect, and the Rogue weapon would be updated to reflect this.
    • Storm spells - The Maelstrom is creating pocket-storms of various sizes and types, which can grow stronger with the presence of more Mana. This keyword is very similar to Manathirst, except you *must* spend the additional Mana to play the card if you currently have it.
    • Gold Nuggets - Gold is a gimmie for a Pirate, and Time Pirates are no exception...but don't count out those hoarding Dragons, either!

Cards for Captains of the Rift

As I noted above for the Time Pirate, this is a Work In Progress. As such, most classes currently do not have full sets just yet. I'm working on it, and will update as I can. In the mean time, I will include write ups for how I plan to proceed with each class (which can always change, of course, based on feedback or my own particular whims).

    Death Knight

What To Expect: Undead-Pirates, quite possibly of the "spooky ghost" variety. Discarding Gold Nuggets to ward off downsides. Also, weapon synergies.

    No cards currently :(

    Demon Hunter

What To Expect: Bounty Hunters, Dragons, and Fel Chromie. "Bounties" are basically a cycle of Side-Quests for the Demon Hunter.

    Druid

What To Expect: Arcane synergies, Naga, Undead, "The End of Time".

    No cards currently :(

    Hunter

What To Expect: Leviathans (Big Beasts), Daelin Proudmoore, benefitting from being outnumbered.

    Mage

What To Expect: "The Daughter of the Sea", Elementals, Teleportation = Big Minions for the Mage?!

    Paladin

What To Expect: "Time cops", Dragons, Chromie, resurrecting.

    Priest

What To Expect: Sen'jin, balancing spell schools, more Nature spells to go with Whirlpool.

    Rogue

What To Expect: Dragons, possibly Naga, hoarding Gold Nuggets, hand synergies.

    Shaman

What To Expect: Lightning/Nature damage spells, Mechs, "Doomhammer archetype" (gain a bonus if you're wielding Doomhammer).

    Time Pirate

What To Expect: Spending Gold Nuggets to trigger stuff, end of turn effects, minions that specifically cost (4).

    Warlock

What To Expect: Fire archetype, putting souls into Mechs, the return of Mecha Jaraxxus?

    No cards currently :(

    Warrior

What To Expect: Fire archetype, Armor, airships, cannons, volcano Elementals.

    Neutral

What To Expect: Support for Fire archetypes, Nature archetypes, Gold Nuggets, tribal minions, weapon synergies. I do not plan to do literally every Neutral card; only the ones that interest me enough to make. I'm not wasting my time creating what would amount to filler.

And that's all I've got for now. Thank you for giving it a look, and a double thank-you if you decide to leave me a comment :D It doesn't seem like much, but the backbone of the expansion is there; just need to spend the time to make it come to life. This is my most ambitious project to date, or at least it certainly seems that way, so getting some "early access" feedback would be especially welcome :)

  • How To Never Lose Fun For The Game

Do you really end up playing the same opponents with any regularity? Because that's the only way that you could say that anyone is Googling specifically to counter your homebrew deck.

Personally, it's extremely rare for me to play the same person twice. I probably could count on one hand the number of times it's happened to me over about 3 years of playing the game.

I mean, literally, the other person would have to be thinking this - "Dude, that guy's name was Nifty and his deck really kicked my butt. I bet I'm going to face him again the very next time I queue up, so I'm going to Google a deck that counters what I saw of his deck in that game."

  • Eighth Wonder of the World - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

Naturally now that it's a day-late and a dollar-short, I think of a Legendary location I'm more happy with. I present to you: The Maelstrom!

I made it just now for a new class/expansion combo I've been working on; the idea is that minions are being pulled to their doom by the whirling vortex. So, the "closest" minions (the ones on the board) fall into the Maelstrom and die, then a minion is pulled from each hand onto the board, then a minion is pulled from each deck into one's respective hand.

Started the class+expansion just after Sunken City, but my motivation dried up until today...only now there's locations, Undead, dual minion types, and a whole 'nother class to consider D:
