I love the competitive aspect of it. The idea behind what Brawliseum is makes it the only format in-game where people actually have something on the line. I just hate the paywall.
What I think is really cool is what Riot just announced for their new competitive year for Legends of Runeterra. They are going to have events during the month that you can only enter once, Runeterra Opens, which will reward points to players to help get them into the end of year event. Having only one opportunity really forces people into some tough decisions!
MTG Arena does something similar with their Arena Open events they run, however, you can enter as many times as you want during Day 1, and if you have a good run, you get an invite to Day 2. The Arena Open also changes which formats it runs in each event, usually focusing on the new set that launched, which is a great way to promote the new goodies. Bonus points when they are a draft event because you just need to pay to enter and you'll get all the tools you need for success, evening the playing field.
It beyond frustrates me that Hearthstone hasn't been able to create anything competitive for the average player in the 10 years the game has been around. All of it has just been pumping Twitch stars, a lot of which moved on from the game soon after having success.
Yeah, they really had an opportunity to just throw a bit more money at it. We all know it isn't a lot of money for Blizzard and it would be so much goodwill for the community. Understandably though there isn't much their esports team can do alone. Their budget was given to them by someone else and they just wanted to make one big spectacle with it.
I did it for the portrait as well. Got 1 win in my first run and 4 in my second, both using Evolve Shaman. Safe to say I encountered no casuals, even if there was quite some variety: Big Spell Mages, all three DK archetypes, an aggro Hunter, Pure Paladins. I'm sitting at 2.700 gold now so all in all I'm content as I've spent close to the same amount of gold as for the Valeera skin in the shop, arguably even less.
I use regular tickets for the rewards mode of Duels, so I can get some value for the tickets and complete the "win 5 games in brawl/duels/arena" weekly quest when that week's brawl is not worth replaying.
Would aslo like them to show the rewards ingame , but since theyre so bad for majority i know why they wouldnt want that.
And im just really glad i was able to get it in a single run cause it was to stressfull to keep doing that and still will have the gold for the mini set once it comes.
HS and especially tavern brawl is my relaxation (also why i dont generly go for legend pushing)
Thanks for sharing your experience. That was definitely cutting it close going 3/3 but I'm glad you were able to beat the odds. I'd love to know how many people end up losing all their games. Statistically, it has to happen. I don't recall if it was ever confirmed for Heroic Brawls, but in Arena you're more likely to be matched with players that are at at the same run count as you, so if you lose twice, one of the two players in your third match is going to lose their entire run. The amount of gold they suck out of the casual economy is disgusting with these events.
I'd be more okay with it if they would at least announce the mini set beforehand and start showcasing cards while advertising these facts in the client. Instead, they'll announce the mini-set later this week or next week and people will go "what, I could have gotten 70 brand new cards for 2 runs worth?"
but wanted the skin (which id prefer just been able to pay 1k gold for)
Did unholy DK, went 3/3
Wasnt a fun experience at all, even more so with gold on line.
It also really shows what i dislike/hate about more modern hs/current game direction. The 3 games i won i had necromancer on 2 that oponent dint have imeadte asnwer to, the 3 games i dint have that basicly nothing else mattered in outcome of the games in comparison atleast.
Wouldnt Recomend it at all, but i just dint want to loose chance at onyl female Dk skin (and belf dk is what i used to main in wow back when i played it still)
Its a scam, and not a fun/casual experience for evryone. Infatc its the exact oppisite of that, which isnt what tavern brawl is for.
Only positive here is that at very least we still get that free pack every week.
Unless you're a pro that plays 4 hours a day, I highly doubt anyone would even bother playing this one. Imagine playing a mode that cost 10 packs and then going up against a group of guys that grinds up hearthstone everyday like its brushing teeth.
by the way ... why to spend gold to get packs of an expansion two month after the launch? everybody who has chances to win some games should already have the almost complete set ... to spend gold to get mostly duplicated doesn't seem too wise ...
I didn't even consider the casino point of view, good on Zeddy for bringing that up. How the hell did games get to this point? lmao.
This really should have been a way to use Tavern Tickets! I completely forgot about them outside of the fact I have at least a couple dozen of them. If only =(
If you don't get 3 wins into your run, and you really wanted that skin, congratulations, you're not going to be forced into additional runs, drying up your gold reserves and making the mini-set a mandatory real money purchase.
I guess "not" is a typo and should read "now" instead?
The threshold of 3 wins is pretty nasty, as the average player is going to need 2 runs to get it, as you expect to get 3 wins and 3 losses in 6 games, but half of the time the third loss comes before the third win, ending the run.
There are several reasons the Heroic Brawliseum does not appeal to me:
The average payout being only 70%, which is ridiculously low (as Zeddy remarked, casinos pay out in the high 90's). And there is no reason it can't be 100%, as converting real money and gold into cards and dust is already a financial win for Blizzard.
It's very top-loaded, so even if you are an above-average participant, you still need a certain amount of luck to get the good rewards.
The entrance fee is too high: I'd be willing to use a few regular tavern tickets (150 gold) for a chance to win a skin, but 1000 gold for each attempt is just too much.
And as promised, follow the class reveals! Back at CHS discord! Not all of them though, it's not finished yet, but a good half of it is.

Too bad they could not just add $50,000 to each event, and not lower the final championship prize pool, but this is objectively better at least.
