Good ideas! They should definitely cancel the gatherings as it seems like a no-brainer, unless they want this:

Ok, new idea. Not too sure of the cost. Yes, this can turn your tokens into Ragnaroes, or enemy elementals into Totems.However it requires setup and could be a dead card some of the time.

@shaveyou - I agree with everything Kansas said. Xavathras is the more interesting card, but if it’s disgusting itself then a transform effect makes more sense

You can call it whatever you want, you can "take a bucket of piss and call it Granny's peach tea" but that won't chance the importance it should be given and the consequences it's causing.

My guess is that this will be a Throne of Thunder expansion.

Mogu Cultist had a line, "The Storm Is Coming" which they play heavily into that Raid.

Could be some exciting cards. Especially if they play around with Tortos, Megaera, Durumu the Forgotten. I'd imagine we'd get a card for Lei Shen. I know there's a hero portrait but if Reno can get a hero card, and two cards, I think Lei Shen can get the portrait and hero card!

Also, perhaps the year of the phoenix ties in to the Pandaren Phoenix?

Honestly, the fact that a section of the people cant actually attend these gatherings, these kind of stuff should have just been scrapped from the start. A tavern brawl that features a mismash of new cards, or better yet, actually allow you to play the recipes earlier, would be more appropriate.

I think if a persons gonna preorder, hes gonna preorder, vice versa. Allowing them to play those cards for free, even if for a short period of time, will not change that.

Can I give this article 5 stars twice? Especially the mike drop at the end. I don't even care about the tavern brawl or open sandbox idea (though it is a good idea), just do something to help people understand the severity of the issue. Announce there will be no gatherings and get some public relations cred.

I like the idea of the Fireside Brawl, hell you can sweeten the reward by giving out those fireside card backs to players who don't have 'em or even Nemsy if you don't have her.

I really can't reinforce how important it is that you, Blizzard, prevent players from meeting up.

This.  Once again Flux you and I are in total agreement about sensible measured precautions relating to this virus.  There's just no need for these physical gatherings right now for an online card game.

Hopefully those in charge agree.  Plenty of ways around this to still provide a pre launch experience as you said.

They will 100% cancel the fireside gatherings, but i doubt they'll just let anybody open their packs, knowing bliz they'll probably release a new bundle that costs $20 that will enable you to open your packs early....

You can setup  your own fireside gathering to open packs early without actually having people over.  I agree, they should allow people to setup their own fireside gatherings to open packs early, but, make an announcement to discourage an actual gatherings taking place.  Solo gatherings are the way to go while this "beerflu" is on the loose.

I think for simplicity's sake, Heroes shouldn't get taunt/cower or anything like that. Plus, in the tooltip it specifically says "Enemies must attack minions that don't have cower".

As for mine, I've had a couple of ideas:

Seeping Rot, is probably the most basic form of effect for this comp, but I haven't seen anything like it. I balanced it against Crushing Walls, although it might be a little strong in a more control focused class.

Xavathras is a bit more interesting, essentially the flavour behind it is a trickster, who uses adjacent minions as human shields, disguising them as himself, allowing him to "reveal" himself once the disguise is killed. Not sure about balancing though...

I think Seeping Rot should just say "destroy adjacent minions" and not "all adjacent minions".

This is a very minor thing, but I feel like Xavathras should transform a minion instead of destroying it and resummoning himself. I don't know why, but I just feel like that would be more natural.

I think Xavathras is better because it is far more interesting and unique and far more likely to make it to the finals.

The same could be said for stealth. This keyword is like stealth, but weaker in the sense that the minions can still be targeted and stronger because it is permanent (unlike stealth).

I am sure they won't risk Fireside Gatherings.

They may have yet to decide, but by the Release Date they will realize that Gatherings are unhealthy (or even forbidden, as they are already in Italy, and probably will still be at the beginning of April).

I somehow think that goverments will be faster than Blizz and they will put bans on events with number+ people involved. Already happened in my country, everything for 30+ people is banned. All sports halls, concerts halls and other similar establishments are closed. I just can't see how Blizz would pull off some Fireside Gathering even if they would want to.

I like it. It is sort of like stealth but a bit more interactive, and the flavor is spot on.

Though isn't Terrifying Roar kind of pointless? If everything has Cower it is the same as nothing having Cower. Also, Fizzlebang is pretty OP since he is effectively just like Glinda Crowskin from the witchwood solo adventure who gains indestructible as long as you control a minion. She is a super hard boss even with a fully jacked dungeon run deck.
