This is also a deathrattle so maybe can fit into deathrattle priest as well. And also lets remind ppl that Animate Dead exists if you really want to be greedy.
Well, ofc this is a must kill minion due to the free Death Strike at the end of each turn. I'm glad this minion cost 8 mana coz it's definitely more aggro orientated but could also help you stabilized if you're almost dead. Might see play in a control warlock of some sorted, doubt it'll see play in Curse Implock though.
My understanding will be the Vision of Darkness will keep returning to your hand after played. That could be great value but we'd also need to know the effect and mana cost but I have a sneaky suspicion it'll be a Shadow Visions type spell.
This guy has 4 effects on it. Four. That alone should make it see some play, especially in this deathrattle shaman that Team 5 are pushing this expansion.
This minion is also basically the best anti aggro much like Walking Fountain back in the day.
Well, this minion alone can discount Crypt Keeper to 0 and on the same turn you play Underking. Ofc 2 cards alone can't create an archetype but there's still plenty of druid cards we'll be seeing today!
It's quite balanced at 7 mana, for consistency it would've be nice at 6, but then probably would've been too good.
Well, much like Relics or DH and even Quest rogue with all the SI7 cards, this will only see play if the whole concoction archetype is any good. Least it's a continuous effect for more value if not removed. Definitely one of those cards where you just evaluate the whole concoction archetype altogether.
That's pretty cute. Actually nice tempo for shadow priest. And you can res this minion with Animate Dead. I'd see this minion getting run in a new type of aggro shadow priest, where most of your minions are small, so you'll play Haunting Nightmare on curve then play the "haunted" minion next turn for the additional 3/3 body.
Reusing old unique abilities...well, making them no longer unique...Imagine another card that can give you Improved Secrets... wouldn't put it past Blizzard. Regardless, I'll probably play this just to see the different combinations of standard beasts you get now but doubt it'll be any good. We already have Deathstalker Rexxar in Standard atm and isn't seeing any play...outside of substituting for Tavish if you don't own him.
I can imagine some Trolden highlights off this spell. Like you'll be able to find exact lethal or stall to win the game. As for where this spell fits though... maybe a reno/renathal deck? And most times you'd want to pick a 3 mana spell, so swapping their costs doesn't really do anything amazing.
Also, it's quaint to see Varden make an appearance again, and it fits thematically.
it discovers two spells and then… what? You still paid 3 mana to cast a spell that you'd easily put into your deck or maybe even Discover or draw from another card, like Runed Orb, Spellcoiler, Deepwater Evoker, Arcanologist, Nerubian Vizier, School Teacher, much better cards to get spells, with Vast Wisdom you get… 0 mana advantage or potential value from it at most, well, 0 mana advantage + a dead card that you'll probably wont want to play unless you have leftover mana in your reserves since otherwise playing it normally feelsbad.
Hell, even Warlock had a Discover 2 cards card (Twisted Knowledge) for 2 mana, and that only saw play for a brief time. Arcane Intellect is also a card that gets you two cards that would be most certainly useful from your deck.
In wild, you have cards like Primordial Glyph which is basically free spell from three choices, Evocation, Magic Trick, Starscryer and many, many, many more cards that can do a much better job than this at creating spells. …Apologies if its a bit long, but it really feels like it Discovered spells of higher cost (ill say 5, at most), the team feared that it'd be too powerful, and then changed it so that no one could potentially abuse it in any kind of dirty plays. I'm really sorry, I just really think this card is that bad unless it gets buffed to.. idk, 4 mana or less, maybe then I can see fringe cases of use.
It didn't work for warlock because most warlock cards tend to have drawbacks, and warlock draws so effortlessly it never seemed reasonable to do it. Just tap hero power, that's the same net gain of cards.
But for mage however, discovering spells is often very dangerous, because mage has plenty of damage and stall spells. Imagine getting a third Solid Alibi, or even just plain secret like Counterspell. That's game defining stuff. Mage being one of the few classes that can consistently get away with off tempo plays, so paying 3 mana to do nothing is not unreasonable.
That said, I have misgivings for this card's viability, not because of powerlevel, but because its mostly redundant. Where would such a card be played? Likely only in XL decks and that's because of the 10 additional card slots.
The best cards for pally this expansion is undoubtedly the blood knights, because they are fast and cover up a significant problem in pally's card library in standard - they're fast, they take initiative, and they do face damage. Like seriously, you can drop brann on turn 3 and there's a good chance paladin cant clear it. Even something as simple as Peasant on turn 1 and pally can't remove it for several turns.
The dragon package however, is bust in my opinion. Too slow, and while they're not necessarily unplayable, we can already see that constructed play beyond aggro tends to favor shenanigans and is usually less about stats. Ive played dragon control pally, and while its playable its not optimal because the dragons in standard tend to suck. The only thing going for it is Kazakusan, and even then its so slow you might as well try making The Countess work instead.
But its early days, and there can yet be more dragons to be introduced, or the blood knight cards are so good that even the dragon package is playable because of it.
Anachronos is just good though. No need synergies, you can legit play this in every paladin deck. May not necessarily be a winning card, but it provides an option that most paladins simply dont have.
I do enjoy these behind the cards articles! Keep 'em coming!
I'm going to remain optimistic about dragon paladin actually being decent. I'll be happy if it's even a tier 2 deck. There's also the chance that Team 5 decide to add more dragon support in the Core set next year with the likes of Dragon Speaker and Dragonrider Talritha.
I really wish this were a 2-mana discover 2-mana cards, instead. If the odds of finding direct damage like Frozen Touch were higher, there'd be a reason to include it in decks. As is, though, I think Larry is right. You'd much rather play a body that discovers a spell, i.e. Venomous Scorpid, than discover two spells. If you even want to do that!
Yes, there is actually: these cards were "leaked" during the DK Showmatch, so they're literally gameplay screenshots of cards that weren't supposed to be revealed yet.
For this reason, Team 5 didn't acknowledge them and we don't have better quality versions.
I'm going to guess they're printing more outcast cards, since you would want to play a lot if you are running this card, and we've only seen two DH cards so far.
Oh hey, Deathstalker Rexxar's hero power on a minion, so that, barring copying, you can use it a maximum of twice, and it isn't available at all times. And I have no idea if Rexxar is even any good today. Zombeast possibilities will be different, but given the rest, I feel doubtful.
New Priest Minion - Mind Eater
More support for thief priest, that's fair.
This is also a deathrattle so maybe can fit into deathrattle priest as well. And also lets remind ppl that Animate Dead exists if you really want to be greedy.
New Warlock Minion - Dar'Khan Drathir
Well, ofc this is a must kill minion due to the free Death Strike at the end of each turn. I'm glad this minion cost 8 mana coz it's definitely more aggro orientated but could also help you stabilized if you're almost dead. This minion is also basically the best anti aggro much like Walking Fountain back in the day.
New Druid Minion - Underking

New Priest Minion - Haunting Nightmare
That's pretty cute. Actually nice tempo for shadow priest. And you can res this minion with Animate Dead. I'd see this minion getting run in a new type of aggro shadow priest, where most of your minions are small, so you'll play Haunting Nightmare on curve then play the "haunted" minion next turn for the additional 3/3 body.
It's possible and keen to try it out.
New Hunter Minion - Scourge Tamer
Reusing old unique abilities...well, making them no longer unique...Imagine another card that can give you Improved Secrets... wouldn't put it past Blizzard. Regardless, I'll probably play this just to see the different combinations of standard beasts you get now but doubt it'll be any good. Because it's discover? And discovering is always good, especially in mage. More Frozen Touches or Wildfires.
