  • A New Way To Spend Extra Hearthstone Mercenaries Coins Is Coming in the Next Big Patch + Major Task Changes

I thought who was at the campfire was determined by your party, but I guess maybe not since it still says "each day will bring new visitors" in that screenshot. I did noticed there's a new button, but do you only see the tasks and your progress at the campfire node in a bounty now?

That's what I was thinking by active party, who would show up at the campfire on the main menu?

Yeah drops aren't working... oof... don't see connected diamond on next two scheduled streams either... they should stop hiring interns for these things...

  • Hearthstone Fall Championship 2022 Takes Place This Weekend - 2 Free Card Packs for Watching

Alright, I can confirm that you dont get the packs for watching today because youtube isn't connected. Waited two hours and nothing. Hopefully it gets fixed tomorrow, and not leave to the last day.

Think I'm more excited about the Tasks rework than the Renown system. Extremely annoying when I have 4 task for Mercs that have no synergy at all, even when abandoning tasks.

Seeing as I barely play Mercs, I have no maxed Mercs so ofc the renown system is pointless to me. Wonder how that will work though, will the campfire be empty?

At the time of writing, drops aren't connected yet, or the "connected" button doesn't appear on the stream. Chat ofc is going apesh!t but thought I'd mention it here. I'm sure it'll get fixed by tomorrow

Exactly. The fact that you can mitigate your losses has such a positive psychological effect. I think that's the real winner over Quicksilver, which I have barely run at all to this point.

Wouldn't be expansion season without some leaks.

Here's what I expect, though: not only will the buyable Merc be random and many of the rolls be worthless (spend overmaxed coins on a Merc that also has overmaxed coins!), I don't think you'll be able to spend many coins at a time on the available Merc, which means the benefit will be tiny or even worthless.

It was already confirmed that only unmaxed mercs have a trade offer at your campfire

From the image it looks like you can get something around 125 to 150 coins for two seperate mercs each day. That should let you speed up your progression significantly, without skipping it alltogether.

Makes sense from their point of view to cap the daily excess coins conversion, but after doing all 18 tasks it would take about 1000 extra coins to max out a single mercenary which means either waiting many days at the campfire or doing a lot of grinding still.

Let us wait for the final details and not speculate too much before hand though 😄

    • The stranger could still give you these new chain independant quests (complete bounty X with having atleast Merc X and Y in your Party)
    • Why does it matter what mercs are considered active if you are not in a match/bounty, if you can't complete any tasks outside of those two secnarios anyways?

YES! the announcement of the announcement

Nice plans, now maybe remove the playing a "heroic" for certain mercs. Nothing should be behind a heroic in the first place.
Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with heroics, but it is to get tasks and maxing done.

  • Ben Brode on MARVEL SNAP's Lack of Mulligan - Developer Insights

Another great thing about Marvel SNAP is that even when my hand sucked ass, I can just retreat early and only lose a single cube most of the time, which is barely noticeable anyways so losing doesn't feel devastating.

It's been a common problem for me when it comes to competitive games. Marvel SNAP is the first game I've played where winning actually feels amazing and losing is just a learning moment and not a depressive episode.

  • A New Way To Spend Extra Hearthstone Mercenaries Coins Is Coming in the Next Big Patch + Major Task Changes

Starting in Patch 24.6, we’re opening them up even more: all Task Chains will available at all times!

This is Blizzard literally rewarding me for stopping playing Mercenaries.

I simply couldn't keep grinding Mercs to max tasks. The new content didn't move the needle at all. It made it worse -- now I have to randomly get new Mercs and raise them up via a random task system. I didn't formally quit Mercenaries. My brain just walked away.

I expected that I'd be interested in the newest PvE material. I haven't even opened the PvE menu. The sheer mass of new content to grind up smothers any curiosity that I might have had.

Coin transfer at 1:1 with universally-available tasks is the bare minimum it would take to get me to even open up those windows. Acquiring new Mercs is still a pain because it requires tasking-up Mercs to get cards, but the ability to force Legendaries you've coined-up into existence would make the game almost playable.

    Hopefully I'm wrong.

  • Battlegrounds Battle Bash Brings Free & Paid Hallow’s End Themed Cosmetics With a Side of Random

Requiring players to win games even after they make a purchase aggravates the bizarre scenario in BGs where the worse your record is the easier it is to get assets and tat out of it because winning/top 4 becomes easier. If you play BGs to win, you will be in a MMR/rank that makes getting your cosmetics far harder than less driven players.

Although people's fondness for Angela or Cable surprises me to some extent.

If you put Angela down first in a location you intend to fill, she could become a 2/7 or even a 2/9 if you move a Nightcrawler out. She's a very efficient play most of the time.

Cable is sacrificing 1-Power off the vanilla in exchange for a card, providing you a resource, potentially denying them one, and you get some information as well ("I just took their America Chavez, so she can't be drawn/played on 6". He was supposedly super worth it in the beta as a 2/3, but I still think he's a fine card as a 2/2.

Personally, of that list, I don't care for Namor or Bishop. Namor is fine but I don't usually put just the one card in a location I plan to win. Bishop, meanwhile, is not good if you only play for curve: he'd be a 3/4 if you play a 4-drop, 5-drop, and 6-drop. He needs a swarm of lower-cost cards to really build up *shrugs*

  • Hearthstone's Free Deck System Gets a Big Upgrade in the Next Patch - Trial Decks!

Disclaimer: I strongly dislike most of the broad decisions Team 5 has made and absolutely do not like the current direction of the game.

That said: this is easily one of the best ideas the devs have ever had.

This is only upside for the customer with the tiny exception of the FOMO caused when you lose access to the new decks. But even that is acceptable because we (as a society) have low-key decided/accepted that some FOMO is acceptable in a f2p game in order to make it profitable in capitalism. And this level of FOMO is way beneath the bar.

Even if the decks suck, this is still a good idea. You're giving players exposure to the game and they can learn what cards suck. It's not the best execution in this case, but positives still beat negatives even here.

From the dev/owner side, I don't know if it will help retention, but it will definitely increase play rates. People into the game will likely run all the decks. I can't see how it could possibly hurt retention. It doesn't even hurt the bottom line much: you must give returning/new players new cards in order for them to engage the game at all so you're not losing much in the way of more FOMO generation, and you're not even giving them all the cards forever. There are costs in hiring a curator to make decks (note that Team 5 is shockingly bad at that, but as mentioned above, that's not a serious downside since it doesn't matter much if the decks suck) but outside of that and the programming, that's it. Seems cheap.

This not only helps newbies/returning players, it doesn't upset or even disturb existing players. Just wins all around.

More of this, and possibly more of whoever thought of this.

I'm much further along than most anyone who would be reading this, so here is a list of the best cards that most new players should have before too long. These are just the best early cards in terms of raw power level and utility:

    • Nightcrawler
    • Angela
    • Scarlet Witch
    • Cable
    • Bishop
    • Namor
    • Iron Man

Whatever else you are doing with your deck, you should have several of these cards in it, if you are a new player. And some of these cards are even still used when you get to Pool 3 decks.

I keep coming back to your posts and decks now that it's no longer such a strange new land (appreciate sharing ahead of time with us!). Although people's fondness for Angela or Cable surprises me to some extent. Iron Man occasionally feels like a 'win more' type of card. But then once the puzzle pieces actually align...

  • Hearthstone Teases “Something Big” Happening on November 2

Apparently cannot escape their own patch cycles, in a way. If they had the tech to make events go live whenever they wish, things could be different. Otherwise patching it into the game well ahead of time most likely ensures somebody datamining the whole thing.

  • Hearthstone Teases “Something Big” Happening on November 2

There was indeed some talk (or leaks) about such things. "3D" or "Legendary", however we are to understand it? Perhaps they are actually throwing a real cosplay contest on the side to go along with such features.

  • Hearthstone Teases “Something Big” Happening on November 2

The article has been updated a little while ago to account for some of the new information coming to light.

  • Hearthstone Teases “Something Big” Happening on November 2

Aye, that might've been an overkill. Not something I'd expect to happen in this modern timeline of mini-sets, they had a few years to draw all necessary conclusions.
