Ok, this looks alright. I've been eagerly anticipating this for quite some time, and I was afraid of how bad it might be, but this looks ... acceptable. Still need to see exactly what the exchange rate will be.
Legendary neutral minion Bobby Kay (2) 1/1. Battlecry: If you have spent Runestones, give all your minions wherever they are Charge, Immune, Ignore Taunt, Lifesteal, Mega-Windfury, and +5 attack.
Yeah I think independent quests is huge. You don’t have to be forced into a poor synergy team just to hit all the quests at once and could now consider taking on new heroics instead of always grinding those easy ones. Makes me a lot more interested in the game mode
I suppose this means the mysterious stranger has no purpose now? Unless I'm misunderstanding and this isn't removing all RNG from the campfire, though how is the active party determined when you aren't currently in a bounty?
I mean, we mostly agree on numerals (1, 2, 3 totally won out over I, II, III), but just ask a representative from each country to write a large one (like 12, 876.45) and tally up the variations.
Today, the Demon Hunter wins grind is finally over. It was a long and tedious journey, but lucky for me also a relatively easy one because Relic Demon Hunter is currently quite impressive in Duels.
At this moment I am really clueless about which new artificial achievement will keep me interested in this game. For sure, it is not going to be grinding towards 2000 wins with all classes.
Perhaps the upcoming new Death Knight class might hold all the answers to this small "problem" of mine 😇
I just noticed that one of the hero-skins is more likely to be a Bartender skin. There currently is no Headless Horseman hero where the skin could be applied to, but most importantly the portrait doesn't have a thin purple color border inside of the wooden border, unlike all of the other skins in this bash. It would also make sense that the battle bash something for each type of Battlegrounds cosmetic
Each day 2 random unmaxed mercs are chosen and are offering you to trade in a limited quantity of coins. Like how you can see in the image where you can trade renown into 150 Vanndar coins and/or 125 Guff coins.
Maybe I'm an idiot and I missed it, but have they said whether renown will grant a random mercy's coins, or a targeted mercs coins? Not that it will really matter, as I (like other grinders have said) have plenty of extra coins lying around!
I'm not a BG player but I really REALLY hate when you pay for something and then still have to "earn" it through playing, just so it creates a forced sense of "investment". Granted, this is fairly reasonable for anyone who's actually dedicated to BGs, but I still don't like the direction
The downside though is the risk. If you are a very casual Battlegrounds player, there is a chance you don't get the full value out of your purchase. The random nature of Bashes means that if you only win 5 games, there is a chance that you don't even get the Legendary Strike or Board, which would not feel great.
Getting a top-four finish isn't that hard, as in my low-MMR experience there are often one or two players dropping out because they didn't get the hero or early minions they were hoping for. If you play one game every other day, you'll probably get to 7 top-four finishes in 22 days. If you play less than that, you probably shouldn't buy Battlegrounds cosmetics in the first place.
Following my own advice, I'll probably just collect the freebie and move on.
We as a society went through all the trouble of unifying under one Time Zone mechanic, and yet we can't keep our (meaningless, actually dangerous) Daylight Savings Times synced. Humanity in a nutshell lol :/
Usually yes, but we're getting a time change on October 30 and they are not until November 6. So there should be an 8 hour difference rather than the usual 9 for about a week.
I mean, I think the game should be cheaper so this is a step in the right direction. I actually quit Hearthstone for a year August 2021 - 2022 because I was so annoyed by the investment into Mercenaries over tons of issues with the core game. However, it's been a lot of fun returning this fall, and getting the free deck absolutely helped get me back into the game (the meta is way better now too than at the release of United in Stormwind).
I think the entire digital CCG model is poisoned from the success of real-world MtG which I quit 25 years ago (yes, I'm old) because of the expense (I was a kid with no money; I'm not that old). To me it's ridiculous that with a $50 pre-order purchase and daily play that I don't achieve a full expansion collection before the next one rolls out. I'm also annoyed that there was no single player content for Castle Nathria because they're still investing in Mercenaries. There are so many cool ways they could incentivize play with a large collection, not make that collection impossible to achieve, and still get dollars in through large and small transactions. I'm not expecting big things anytime soon, but I'll take anything that moves the needle in the right direction.
It may have took a year, but the excess coin solution is finally here. I also think that they solved it pretty elegently in the context of the Mercs mode, which is all about grinding. Being restricted to 2 random mercs with a limited quantity of coins each day allows you to speed up your progression, without skipping it alltogether with all of excess coins players have by now.
The new task chain indepenent tasks also look great. It gives you something to do each day, even after you completed all of the task chains. Also being asked to run some unusual comps and specific old bounties makes them so much more interesting that the usual Toki task.
Yo for real though, Halloween Cosmetics get me every damn time in every game.
I do like that they're giving big discounts for cosmetics if you just play the game, which is a great way to keep the queues quick. I do worry that some people aren't going to fully understand it though and end up getting screwed over due to the RNG nature of it and them being very casual. Will need to wait and see their in-game messaging on it though - which hasn't been a strength of Hearthstone ever.
I only play BG every now and then, but I'm totally into Halloween cosmetics for basically any game out there. I usually set myself the rule that for f2p games I get myself one premium skin, and only one premium skin, that's enough for me for the rest of the games lifespan and these cosmetics definetely have the potential for that. Especially with the board being a legendary one and the price being so low (if you don't count the time you need for the 7 wins).
This doesn`t make a difference for me, because I play HS every week.
But I think this is still a nice change to give new and returning players a better chance to get (back) into the game. This way they can make a more reasoned choice how to invest their gold and dust. :)
I think Doom in the Tomb would have been fine if it ran for only a week. People would have appreciated the Uldum meta even more if it had returned after the event. Instead, the "limited time" event ran until the next expansion, lasting almost two months.
And if we were to look even further into the past, there was a special event called Doom in the Tomb, bringing over some Wild cards into Standard for a limited time. But its overall reception ultimately wasn't very positive, to put it mildly.
Yup. Deliberately making the best meta many players had ever had into literally the worst possible -- especially for f2p -- had something of a backlash. Which is why --
Lately we’ve been brainstorming having events that bring back some old favorites for a limited time in standard.
Is disturbing to hear.
Team 5 is perfectly with making lots and lots of packfiller and with turning viable cards into filler via powercreep, which means the only things coming back into the game are generally a) useless and ignored (this is actually fine) or b) devastating and terrible. Curation is not their strong suit.
What's wacky is that Doom in the Tomb happened and gave them a black eye and their leadership engages with neither autopsy nor reflection. It reminds me a little of ascended fanboys in other media where customer concerns are non-issues compared to the personal engagement the producers have with the product.

A New Way To Spend Extra Hearthstone Mercenaries Coins Is Coming in the Next Big Patch + Major Task Changes
I'm reading it as:
Step 1) you pick one of your maxed Mercs and push a button that exchanges that Merc's excess coins into Renown.
Step 2) you decide if one of Blizz's two trade offers is appealing enough to click on. If so, you get those coins and now have less Renown.
Sounds good to me.

Indeed, with a 10:1 conversion rate most of us coin grinders would still be set for the next couple of years (or decade), lol 😂
