  • Negativity breeds fast. I'm pretty sure if I made a post on reddit about how I'm still kind of excited for Mercenaries, I'd be downvoted into oblivion. Neither Battlegrounds nor Duels held my attention past the first month, but while the mechanics are very different from what I expected, Mercenaries does seem like it'll deliver the repeatable PvE content I was hoping for. And if that's all your concerned with, there's no need to buy every character and cosmetic, so it won't be that much of an investment.

If I want PvP, I'll play "traditional" Hearthstone.

I agree with this article's sentiment. I'm surprised we haven't seen a brain drain in the games industry given how much crap gets thrown at anyone even slightly publicly facing.

  • Perhaps the rule doesn't apply to people who have passed away. Very unlikely to have new skeletons revealed at that point.

  • Prep Sprint, despite being available from the beginning, didn't become commonplace in Rogue decks until close to Naxx, if I remember rightly. It stuck around for quite a long time. Prep reduced by three mana back then, of course.

We merely dreamed of the kinds of card draw that are in the game now.

  • It's honestly a little bit surprising to me that we're this far into Hearthstone's life cycle, and we haven't seen field effects yet. Seems like it's a mechanic they're considering now. I guess you could consider Transfer Student to be a stepping stone to that. It just lacks the player's ability to change the field themselves.

  • I mean, I would always like things to be cheaper! But presumably they have the prices set at where they are because they think this is the highest they will sell well at. If the mega-bundle does worse than usual in a future expansion, they'll probably drop the price.

  • Them being separate provides people with more options. Maybe someone just wants to get the new cards from the new expansion, and they don't care about cosmetic hero portaits and golden cards. This method saves them $20.

  • Right, but we're not in a court of law. If I catch somebody in a lie, I don't have to wait for it to go through a jury to call them a liar.

  • Sure, they're not completely equal effects. But both switch a random card by one mana at the same phase of the turn. One, if you get the coin flip, pulls a card/combo one turn early, the other pushes a card/combo a turn later. Seems fair to compare them.

  • Compare this to pre-nerf Far Watch Post, which guaranteed the mana change, and was a 2-cost card on top of that. It's definitely pack filler, but at least it has the ogre flavor.

  • You don't even necessarily have to make a Dude deck for this to be an endgame win condition. Paly decks already run enough one-drops, between First Day of School, Knight of Anointment, Safety Inspector, Aldor Attendant, any secret, and especially Pen Flinger, which can be easily used in each of the three stages. Getting what is basically Jaraxxus' hero power if the game goes long enough could be worth diluting the opening mulligan.

  • Poor guy said he'd never play HS on stream again after how much chat made fun of his plays last time. Someone at Blizzard is conspiring to torment the man.

  • Youtuber/Twitch streamer Jerma985 made a machinima movie back in 2014. It's pretty meme-tastic.

  • Hmm, we'll see if they're able to slow down the meta for the new expansion. Otherwise, the quests will go the way of the caravans and be unplayable.

  • As somebody who buys all the hero portraits, preparing for the day when Blizzard finally adds the "Random Hero" option, it's actually quite nice to see some released I won't have to buy, for once, since I don't play Battlegrounds.

  • "We wanted a balance of races and gender"

Ended up with 7 male and 2 female heroes. Huh, that would maybe explain some of the problems Hearthstone has with balance.

  • Yeah, my love of symmetry really doesn't like the fact that only one of the eight Old God cards is not a 10-mana card now. It is super weird.

  • Yes, I think it would be absolutely fine to put this card back and the Dalaran Flame card back in the store eventually. I don't necessarily think that exclusivity holds any value in a digital format. That's why NFTs are dumb.

  • A card back is insubstantial enough that I think this is fine, too. There've got to be well over 100 in Hearthstone now, right? Maybe even approaching 200? It'd maybe be different if this was something like a Hero portrait where a lot of dev work went into something not widely available.

This is basically the digital equivalent of what you'd get in a goodie bag at one of these events.

  • You paid money for a card back. You got a card back. You really think Blizzard are spitting in your face allowing other people to enjoy it years later? You're going to call yourself a second-class client because other people can buy a card back? Freakin' lol.

  • I wonder if the intention is for the past expansion Diamond cards picked to be in the Core Set (or Classic for the original set). I would be surprised if they spent time creating cosmetics exclusively for Wild; it's not usually how the HS team has done things.
