New The Winter War cards For January 18
Cards are sorted in the order of their color, followed by rarity, and finally, name. Each card is accompanied by our first impressions, as well as a link to where the card was spoiled (where possible). All card in this article were revealed by Rune42 and Tempest987 on their Tea Time With Runepest podcast. We also got the new expansion Paths and Powers revealed here.
Vestai Virago
Really good card. High survivability, a large body that can deal with most of the things comings its way, and very difficult to block without using a large number of resources. The Gorgon's Fang isn't extremely powerful, since 4 Durability is quite low. An absolute powerhouse in Fires of Cration, where it will allow you to get multiple Forgelings by playing fairly cheap artifacts.
Bol'shoy Constructor
Probably the most powerful card revealed so far. 2 Mana ramp for 2 is really good, even with the 2 turn delay. Expect an early nerf.
Spire of Sand and Glass
A more expensive Cairnhenge with the upside that the buff offered to the minion played on it sticks around even if it moves. A lot better if it replaces an occupied Desert. Easy combo with Dust Devil
Erode
Great power if you need to get rid of that one minion that's just out of reach, or to nullify enemy Armor. Fairly situational.
Bolster
Excellent addition to decks that play minions every turn. Won't replace Infuse, as the minion getting buffed won't usually be able to attack the turn it's summoned.
Alliance Command Center
An odd Path that I'm not sure has a place at the moment. The decks that could get the card draw by having a small hand are aggro decks, and those already have an option in either Journey of Souls or Coliseum of Strife. The guaranteed item generation is fairly slow, but the fact the item costs 0 goes a long way. Focused isn't the best keyword around, and the body of the token is very fragile with only 1 health. The one deck that could benefit from the item, the one using Hoarding Hero, usually has a lot of cards in hand. If an 'empty hand' archetype ever becomes viable, this is the Path to choose.
Rebellion Safehouse
A Path with a far clearer place. Excellent for control decks with few minion, allowing them to take advantage of the card draw, and the Slayer will come into play far more often than Focus. Unlike Command Center, this Path goes along great with a Hoarding Hero decks, which want to buff one single minion. The token created also has a better body, since 2 life makes it more resilient to sources that deal 1 damage. Both this Path and the previous one could make use of Trusty Hierling from the new set.
