This article has been updated to reflect pricing changes in Runeterra since it came out of Closed Beta.
Wondering what you get inside of the Runeterra Starter Bundle? Is it worth your $5 USD (475 Points)? Let's find out!
The Starter Bundle
Available in the in-game store in the featured tab, the Starter Bundle is the only bundle currently available to players and may be purchased for 475 points - or for those in the United States, $5. With it you get:
- 66 Total Cards
- Of those cards, you get 11 cards from each of the 6 factions
- You'll get 6 commons, 4 rares, and 1 epic for each faction
The bundle is worth 1320 points in the shop, or just under $15 USD worth of points, which is determined by the cost of wild cards. Here's the breakdown of what Wildcards cost:
- Champion Wildcard - 300 Points
- Epic Wildcard - 120 Points
- Rare Wildcard - 30 Points
- Common Wildcard - 10 Points
So in total, we're looking at a savings of 64% off the price of wildcards, making this a pretty awesome way to get a kickstart to your collection. What does that give us though? Well luckily, the game tells us!
Previously this was a savings of 73% during Closed Beta. Riot reworked the economy though and the savings are now a little less.

Hi guys,
could anyone be so kind and tell me what I got out of the starterpack? In HS I could open the packs. Are the cards automatically added without letting me know which cards I got?
You got what was listed above. There is no flashy animation like opening packs in HS, all the cards immediately go in to your collection.
I guess the issue some people have is seeing news items on the games they arent interested in.
I guess it will come down to page design.
When you're covering runeterra and heartstone, what do you put in the 3x top decks slots? another button to switch to runeterra view?
Either way I like information on both, just maybe a way to filter easily one type or another
Keep up the good work guys
Got a key yesterday and played the game. Very liked it so far. Design, graphics and mechanics are all fresh and good.
sites like ooc creating content for new games gives me much more incentive to pick up said new game. Thanks for working hard on developing new content for us to digest. I would love for there to be a MTGA section, but also not faulting ooc for not having it. ya'll already do tons of work for us. Thanks!
I have played HS for 5 years and skeptical to all new games, but I got a Key for the LOR and find it pretty amazing. All the information on this site is pretty awesome as well. Lots of information and so fast, just after launch. Keep up the good work.
A gave this page a chance and have used it for a while instead of hearthpwn. It was not that good, mainly because missing content, few decks, less people... but now it's time to leave. I don't care about other games.
So far you have only made 4 comments on this site after being here for 5 months, so it looks to me like you never actually cared much about this site or the community. so, why did you even bother to tell everyone that you are leaving? no one cares.
It kinda reminds me of the recurring cycle we had on Hearthpwn : ''.. but I don't like community creation'', ''Keep 'hem off the front page'', etc. ... so don't click a link that is obviously about an other game, it is that simple my friend.
Also, on a slow week in HS world, would you rather no news?
Hearthstone very rarely has actual news and its been that way for a very frustrating 6 years. If it wasn't for the Blitzchung drama recently, it would have been a couple of weeks of silence and us just continuing to push out interesting articles on different types of decks people can play to enjoy the game.
I'm also not sure what you're talking about as far as missing content goes. There were a couple of mediocre things missed a few weeks back due to a lot of stuff going on and me being out sick for a whole week, which is a speck of dust when you compare it to us actually covering everything else.
The end goal for this site was to never only cover one game though, and I thought we were quite clear when we gave it a generic name, moving away from Hearthstation, and talking about it multiple times in the news and on the forums. There are plans to allow people to only see stuff for one game if that is all they care about, Riot just caught us offguard with the game announcement and we've had to react quickly to it.
Anyone relying on creating a top-tier website that is only going to talk about Hearthstone, I don't trust Blizzard enough to put anyone's livelihood on that, as further proven by the recent Blitzchung controversy. I love Blizzard, always will, and I think they've done a very good job for Hearthstone this whole year with so many extra content updates and communication, but that doesn't fix the overall track record for the game and the game continues to decline in players which makes it even scarier to invest in it long-term.
That's not to say we're not still playing and loving the game and that we're going to stop creating content for it, because that is still our primary drive, Runeterra is just new and there's a LOT to talk about. We've probably got another 2 weeks of silence from Hearthstone and then things will really pick-up when BlizzCon hits. A new expansion announcement and then a card reveal period shortly after with the release in December makes for a super interesting month+.
I will say though, the community here is infinitely better than what HearthPwn currently has, even if we have slightly less activity. I've seen real discussions take place here where you really can't say the same about HearthPwn. Not entirely sure what you mean by decks either, we have a much higher % of quality deck guides being written on the site compared to the amount of duplicate, empty stuff HP has. You're more than welcome to your own opinion on that though and I wish you the best in your internet travels! Feel free to come back anytime and engage with us in discussion on Hearthstone.
I fully respect the goal of the site, it makes sence that more games means more news, various community etc. It's definitely not easy to create new top1 portal for the game with 5 years of history.
I don't feel to be a part of community on heartpwn either as here and my expression was maybe too rude, which wasn't my the point. I'm sorry if it sounds like that. As I occasionally visit the page, less news is in fact quite OK, nothing I would complain about. What a surprise, I found more news about game a I don't even know instead of HS for what I came... Maybe the filter in my profile or separate rss/atom feed for each game, would solve it. That's just idea.
Regarding missing content. I think there is less decks and less discussion even on new cards. But it can change.
If you speak about the quliality of discussion, not sure at first look it's seem be very similar to me. I wrote my opinion and I got 26 down-votes and reaction that no one cares about me... In a minute. Anyway the rest seems to be fair discussion. Thank you for your time to answer me and for what you are doing. I give it a change.
You were very upfront about this in the transition, and I like the philosophy behind it. I'm interested to see you guys cover this game as it launches even if I never play it. I followed Artifact's launch - very skeptically - and it's good to know what's going on in the industry. If it's a dud, I expect coverage will stop. If it develops a solid player base, I may try it out.
One thing I especially appreciate is that the site hasn't gone all in on MTG. 1) The antiquated mulligan system and getting mana-screwed drives me as insane today as it did when I quit the game for the first time in 1997 (I am old). 2) It's just soooooo much. It's too much. It's huge. And other sites are out there doing a spectacular job of covering it. I don't think the game is going away (I didn't realize until 2010 that the game was MORE popular than when I had quit in '97), but I like that this space isn't compelled to cover it, let alone every card release.
I would be interested in articles that covered the state of digital CCGs once a quarter. Player-bases and stuff like that. Popular streamers for different games. That's where I can find out if there's anything groundbreaking or new with MTG: Arena. Kripp sometimes still features a game of Shadowverse or ESO Legends. Are those worth playing every now and again? Did Gwent ever become a thing? What weird thing is Noxious up to (other than writing kick-ass articles for this site). Are Amaz and Toast playing HS this week?
Basically, continue to be picky about what games you go all-in on, but always feel free to engage in world-building beyond HS.
Holly fucking shit dude. I feel like u just described every feeling i have on the mentioned situations. Moreover i believe the general HS community shares the same feeling.
If anyone had any doubts i think now its al clear Hearthpwn lost their heart and soul AKA Fluxflashor.
I'll add, our goal is to grow the site to be as large as possible so we can have a vibrant community. Supporting multiple games helps us achieve that and more importantly, there is definitely room for splash over. If we gain a lot of extra traffic because of Runeterra, the Hearthstone side of things will grow as well
I am all for it! This new game actually looks really fun, and before I saw your post the other day addressing the fact that you were not just a Hearthstone site, or not trying to be, I was already thinking this could be a huge boost for this site if you become an early adopter of the game and start creating a lot of quality content for it now to draw in some of that audience.
And more users, even if their not here for (just) Hearthstone only helps you guys gain more Patreon support, meaning more employees, more content, new features, etc.
This guy saying he's leaving must have also not seen your post or he'd know that game filtering in the feed is something you said you guys are working on.
Just a thought, have you tried reaching out to Riot to see if they could somehow "partner" with you guys? For example... if you and a few others all had early access and were doing some experimenting, etc, or even just watching some streamers and analyzing their plays and decks, start compiling a type of "early meta report". Basically providing insights that no one else is doing right now, they could drive people to your site to check out the articles. And on your dev side, maybe focus on integrating the game more, a deck builder for LoR, all that good stuff. Maybe even a "pack opener" similar to the Hearthstone one, even though LoR doesn't have random pack openings. Early adoption of features like this could gain a large following as the place to go for LoR info and community.
I'm sure this is all stuff you've thought of before, but I'm just spit balling a little here. And if you do try to compile some early content like a meta report or decks to try I would be glad to help whenever I get access, which I registered for the day it was announced.
Is this game live? I was under the impression that it has not yet launched, and to purchase packs before even experiencing the final game play seems... presumptuous on the game's quality...
The game is currently in a 5-day "Patch Preview". It will then go offline for a month and return with another short preview period before going down again until the start of 2020.
Did pre-registration, but I guess I wasn't lucky enough to get into the preview (I did pre-register after it was posted here, so it was probably already in progress). Thx!
Some streamers, including DisguisedToast, are dropping early access in their streams. Connect your Twitch account to your Riot account and give those streamers a try if you haven't already done so.
This game looks really ho-hum to me
