Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel Receives Its Last Selection Pack of the Year in Beginning of Turmoil

Well, this is an ironic name. Beginning of Turmoil if the final Selection Pack of the year for Master Duel. It doesn't introduce any new archetypes, instead re-releasing cards from throughout the year. It only contains 20 new cards, 15 of those being generic supports for various Monster Types, Summoning methods, and so on.

Unlike most packs, which stick around for about two months before being pulled from the shop, this one will only last about one month. It contains cards for the Dinomorphia, Gunkan, Icejade, Despia, Dogmatika, and Swordsoul archetypes, with only the first 3 containing new cards.

Dinomorphia

Dinomorphia get two new cards to play with, the new boss Monster Rexterm, and the Trap Dinomorphia Frenzy which lets you Fusion Summon using materials from the Deck and Extra Deck. Unfortunately, the pack is missing a lot of expensive cards, like Kentregina, Stealthbergia, Domain and Reversion, and you can't get those cards ouside of crafting or Master Packs. Hopefully the archetype receives a Secret Pack in 2023 like how it happened with Albaz last month.

Gunkan

Only one new card for the Suships, but it's a powerful one, as Shari Red allows you to bring out an Xyz Monsters on Summon. Unfortunately, their best Xyz Monsters, Uni-class Super-Dreadnought and Shirauo-class Carrier, are not included in the deck, but at least they're nowhere near as expensive as the Dinomorphia package.

Icejade

Icejades get two new cards, the Monster Aegirocassis, which can equip to a monster to bolster its stats, and the Spell Icejade Curse, which acts as a floodgate and can inflict effect damage to your opponent. Unlike Dinomorphia and Gunkan, every Icejade card in the game is in this pack, so it's a pretty good purchase if you want to play the deck.

Despia

No new cards for the theatre kids, but, similar to Icejade, you have every relevant card that's in Master Duel in this pack, with the only exception being Branded Banishment. Despia and Branded are archetypes related to Albaz, who, as mentioned, got a Secret Pack recently. If you want to combine the two, you can craft some Albaz cards and open those Packs.

Dogmatika

Speaking of archetypes related to Albaz, Dogmatika is also in this pack, again with no new cards. Only a little over half of the cards in the game are present here, but the SRs and URs present can also be found in the Echo Chamber Nation Secret Pack, which contains the key cards missing from here, including Ecclesia, which would give you access to the Albaz pack linked above.

Swordsoul

Last, but certainly not least, we have the Swordsould. The only card missing from this pack that belongs to the archetype is The Golden Swordsoul, but everything else is present and accounted for. We have a dedicated guide for the archetype if you want to take a closer look.

Generic

This section is for cards that don't belong to an archetype, being instead generic support for other decks. The only exceptions are Amphibious Bugroth MK-11 and Fossil Machine Skull Wagon, who belong to the Umi and Fossil archetypes, respectively. We figured there's no point in making two separate sections for them. What are they even doing here? It's worth noting that every card that's a Rare or higher is brand new, along with some Normal rarity cards.
