Well, this is an unexpected development. Titan Forge Games just announced SMITE 2, the sequel to it's Action MOBA starring deities and legends from various pantheons. There's no date for the full release yet, but you can register to the alpha that will start in Spring on their website.

The new game will be developed with Unreal Engine 5, as opposed to the original's UE3. The game will be remade from the ground up, and it looks like all the gods are moving over, but that won't be true for the skins. According to the devs, porting every single skin would require 246 person-years.

Instead, there are two ways to reward long-time players. The first is Legacy Gems. For each Gem you've spent in the original SMITE, you'll be awarded a Legacy Gem. You can use those to pay for 50% of any purchase in Smite 2, until you've used them up. The second is Divine Legacy, which will take into account your unlocked skins in SMITE and let you unlock a slew of stuff in SMITE 2, including up to 11 skins.

Starting with Year 11 of the game (the current one), skins will be Cross-Gen, so unlocking a skin in SMITE will make it available in SMITE 2 when that comes out. Finally, you'll be able to unlock all current and future gods in SMITE 2 by purchasing a Founder's Pack. More details on said pack will be revealed at a later date.

SMITE 2 will be available on Steam (including the Steam Deck), Epic, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5, with the first champion to join being Hecate. SMITE will still be supported after the launch of its successor, though it's unknown for how long. If you want to learn more, there's an FAQ on their site and a keynote on their YouTube channel.
