Sony's latest State of Play just concluded, and it contained quite a few announcements, both in terms of new games and as announcements to old ones. We'll have dedicated sections to the meatier parts of the stream, with a rapid-fire bullet-list at the end. Let's get into it!

Stellar Blade

Stellar Blade sees you take on a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk world as Eve, a member of the 7th airborne squad who wants to save the planet from a mysterious enemy called the Naytiba. You are acompanied by Adam (subtle) and Lily as companions who will help you on your journey. Gameplay-wise, the title focuses on fast-paced combat combined with RPG elements in the city of Xion. Coming on the 26th of April 2024 exclusively on the PS5.

Sonic X Shadow Generations

A remake of Sonic Generations with some extra content added for Shadow, by the looks of it. Could be a similar situation as with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, where basically another game was added to the original and sold as a package. We'll have to wait to get closer to its Autumn launch for more details.

Silent Hill: The Short Message & Silent Hill 2

Well here's a surprise: A brand new Silent Hill game! This one is in first person and seems to be set in the somewhat modern day, since the player has access to what looks like a modern smartphone. This game is both Free to Play and out later today on the PS5. If you really want to go in blind, you can skip the trailer altogether.

We also got a look at gameplay for the Silent Hill 2 remake, mainly the combat. As someone unfamiliar with the original, I can't speak to its quality, but it seems similar to the recent Resident Evil games. No release date, but it's coming to PS5 and PC.

Judas

From the creators of Bioshock, comes Bioshock in SPAAAAAACE! Jokes aside, the game looks good, with a similar vibe and atmosphere to Bioshock, but delivered in a new package. No release date as of now, but it's coming to PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Metro Awakening VR

A new Metro game, exclusive to VR by the looks of it. It's not limited to VR, though, as the developer's site also mentions Meta Quest 2 and 3, as well as PC VR. Vertigo Games has a good track record when it comes to VR games, so this should be a good one. Coming later this year.

Legendary Tales VR

One more VR title was announced, a fantasy RPG that can be played with up to 4 players. You have access to magic and melee combat, as well as some crafting. This one comes out on February 8th for PSVR2, with a PC version already out in early access (and presumably with a full launch there on the same day).

Rise of the Ronin

From Team Ninja, the studio behind the Nioh series, comes a game set in 19th-century Bakumatsu Japan. The game sees you play as a samurai with access to a variety of tools, like a glider, a grappling hook, a flamethrower, some sort of bayonet, and, for good measure, a gun. You'll also get a horse, with the game looking to be open-world and the combat similar to Sekiro.

Death Stranding 2

I'm just gonna list some things that happen in this trailer:

  • One of the characters has a sort of scarf with hands on each end, that work as full-fledged hands and can double as a face mask.
  • Remember the baby from the trailers of the first game? He's back, and he's puking spaceships.
  • The characters turn... cyan? light blue? for a few minutes.
  • There's a small, seemingly sentient, puppet that has demon eyes and moves at 12 frames per second.
  • Power-armour-wearing Joker, equipped with a laser guitar, fights a cyborg that escaped the Metal Gear series and who only speaks in baby noises.

In other words, a normal day in the world of Hideo Kojima. Game's coming out in 2025.

Speaking of Kojima, he announced that he's working at an action-espionage game, which will start development after DS2 is out. It also looks like Sony is letting him make a movie via Columbia Pictures.

Rapid-fire Round

Here's the other, less meaty announcements:
