Garrosh Theramore fight: Clever or Cheep?

Genuine question for those who have played the Garrosh solo adventure and done the Jaina fight. For Thereamore, the fight is basically the same as in Jaina's chapter in the first book of heros story. Main diffrence is that you switch sides using Garrosh's hero power to destroy the gates. The voice lines are very much the same, although with a few small additions. Overall, do you consider this to be clever as we see the same scenario from the other side, or a cheap reuse of assets? Perhaps both somehow? I'm undecided myself, so I'm curious to see what people think.


Also, additional question, How many of you think the warrior pack is worth buying now that we have more skins in the game overall?

  • Since this one event is rather important lorewise I doubt it would be passed on simply because it has been played out in the previous adventure. So them repeating this scene can hardly be said to be cheap, though I hesitate to call it smart. Since we're obviously going to be the winner of this match, I don't see why they didn't just ramp Jaina's power level and give you the mana bomb in hand (maybe 7 mana and can only be played once the walls are down) to end the match. Instead what transpired is a simple 'reduce your enemy hero to 0' match where its clear that you're being given the upper hand as Garrosh in this one. For example, the hero power is no longer defunct once the walls are down and can sometimes be even crucial in maintaining tempo. Also, Jaina's gameplan seems a little off. She would frequently play Kirin Tor Tricaster over her much more powerful hero power on 4 for some reason.

    I'd expect to see the same final match in Garrosh's story when Thrall's story comes along, but how'd they manage it is another thing entirely since he's supposed to lose to Garrosh the first time.

    Regarding the skins. I'm not really a collector though I really like Garrosh's hero skin in this one. Much more so than both Jaina's and Rexxar's. But 10 usd for 5 packs is not exactly what I call value. Not sure if there's any unique voicelines even, but the concede voiceline in the adventure made me laugh. 10 out of 10.

      I wouldn't be surprised if Thrall skipped this fight. The Siege of Orgimmar is not nearly so important to Thrall's story as it is to Garrosh's, so there are surely better events to fill the 8 encounters up with. That's doubly true since Thrall has so much story to cover. I suppose it is possible they go a little bit into WoD to when Thrall kills Garrosh, and then can leave his story when he (tries to) settle down for a quiet life.

      As to whether reusing fights is clever or cheap: definitely both! You have to tell the same story from both sides, so why wouldn't you, well, tell the same story? The efficient route is quite often the best one, and for this sort of thing it helps ensure consistency, which is useful for a set of stories trying to give more players the background to the characters they are using. 

      Perhaps the most important 2 words in the previous paragraph were "have to". The bombing of Theramore was not something that Jaina or Garrosh could skip. This is unlike the Siege of Orgimmar, which Thrall could reasonably skip, so reusing that fight would probably just be lazy.

        I'd imagine they'd need to insert that fight in since the story need to explain Thrall's dissapointment with Garrosh, and it would probably be unlikely they'd do that in a text box and basically skim past Mists of Pandaria. But as you said, Thrall's story is so much longer and, I'd add, significant than any other character that the real question is where to stop. It may very well end after Garrosh's first defeat, since there's just so much ground to cover, from his origins to Mannoroth's death, to deathwing's defeat, to the Ogrimmar siege.

          I'm hoping the Garrosh story is sufficient by itself to show Thrall's disappointment in him, and I suspect Thrall's story is 9th (if Flux is right) to let everyone else tell their stories so that Thrall can skim over them with dialogue. Does he need to address his mistake with Garrosh? Absolutely, but with such limited space the WoD rematch feels much more appropriate.

          One fight I expect we will see again though is the Divine Bell one with Anduin. I'm honestly not sure how Anduin's story is going to be told, because before Legion he had always been the pacifist and/or damsel in distress. Picture the scene: "Oh no! I've been kidnapped by Onyxia. Let's wait 'til next month when Valeera and daddy can rescue me."

  • This event is important to both characters so it’s not really cheap, but not clever either.  More like necessary.

    And buying the bundle for the skin and it’s value are all completely completely relative in my opinion.  If someone is a gaming completionist, they’ll still want it.  If someone really likes the portrait and cares about cool cosmetics, they’ll want it.  If you don’t care about cosmetics but think it’s a nice portrait, you’re me and probably going to pass.

  • To me the fight was ok. Since i'm only playing BGs and the adventures when they come up, i didn't notice the similarities to the Jaina fight,or didn't remember them rather.

     

    The annoying part is the fight itself, which you end up losing unless you know to use the hero power as often as possible. Similarly, the second(?) fight, against that totem shaman, was the most stupid I've ever seen. Had to redo it 3 times to get the proper draws and not get overwhelmed. Whoever designed it should burn in hellfire.

     

    All in all, i'd call this adventure mediocre, but it's not like any of them were beyond exceptional, nor am I expecting more from this game in terms of PvE content.

  • I have found Book of Heroes to be significantly less fun than other adventures (while still enjoyable enough), and one of the big reasons is the lack of originality. Not only did they reuse the fight as discussed above, but there have been a whole bunch of "new" cards like an Overconfident Orc that just has a different name and art, and Jaina gets a [Hearthstone Card (Grey Cat) Not Found] that is basically just a Black Cat without the Odd requirement. Unique and overpowered special cards are what make adventures extra fun, but these are just lame. 

  • Lazy of course, if they can reuse stuff and avoid doing anything they would.
