Does Jr. Tomb Diver work with Advanced Targeting Monocle?

So I've been trying to make Jr. Tomb Diver work in heroic, but so far I've been unsuccesful both due to not getting any secrets in my buckets and relatively weak decks. I got Advanced Targeting Monocle a couple times now and based on the wording, it should work with Jr. Tomb Diver, but I haven't been able to test it unfortunately (I have never been able to draw or play both cards before I won or lost). However, I thought the same thing of Mysterious Tome, but I was able to confirm that it does not count towards jr. tomb diver's requirement.

So before I choose Advanced Targeting Monocle again and get disappointed after it turns it doesn't work with Jr. Tomb Diver, have any of you been able to confirm how this interaction works?

  • I don't know, but I am 99.999% sure that it doesn't count because it casts and doesn't play, especially since Mysterious Tome doesn't work and that says "play". I wouldn't get my hopes up.

  • I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work because [Hearthstone Card (jr. Tomb Raider's) Not Found] condition is playing secrets, not having spells cast them. For comparison, Secretkeeper doesn't get buffed by Bellringer Sentry, nor Desperate Measures AFAIK.

     

    It's unfortunate because the Tomb Raider is pretty much a 4 mana 5/5 in this adventure. Secrets are rare and result in a terrible deck that doesn't let you survive long enough to complete the Raider's condition. In my experience the other starting treasures are a lot stronger.

  • Thanks for responding guys. For some reason I thought Advanced Targeting Monocle said 'play a copy' but it says 'cast a copy' so I guess I'm just dumb.

    Yeah this^. I've played like a total of 8-10 runs (I'm not really counting) so far in which I tried to make the card work and I only got enough secrets in 1 of those. In that run I did manage to activate Jr. Tomb Diver once but that was just because I kept passing until I had drawn all my secrets. Later I died to the 7th boss because like you said, my deck was just not good enough because I had to pick weak buckets.

    It sucks because the completionist in me wants to get this to work before upgrading the Jr. Tomb Diver to the Sr. Tomb Diver , and I've been playing heroic so much that doing it on regular just isn't fulfilling.

  • nope, unfortunately. Secret passive doesn't work either

    Tomb Raider is unfrotunately not useful until the final chapter when she upgrades. 6 secrets is just too much, however 3 are somewhat acceptable, given that upon completion you're probably going to start winning hard.

  • Welp... I just managed to activate the Jr. Tomb Diver effect against the plague lord. I had a great deck to support the strategy with about 7/8 secrets, Alchemist's Stone, Tracking Device and quite a bit of card draw including four Arcanologist's. Unfortunately the last secret I needed to activate Jr. tomb diver was literally the last card in my deck, so once I finally got the hero power, I was almost dead and the plague lord of madness isn't exactly nice once he's in his last phase, so I only got to activate it about 4 times... Needless to say, I am both relieved that I finally managed to do it and tilted that that one damn secret being at the bottom of my deck kind of ruined it. I guess the real fun will have to wait until I get the Sr. Tomb Diver.

    • I managed to get her to work once in normal, not heroic. The new hero power is super great. Not only are there so many busted treasures, but getting to discover instead of just a random one is awesome.

  • I have several runs done with jr tomb diver, trying to get a deck that works consistantly but due to literally never being offered a secret bucket, I always need to rely on random spell generation. Wondering if there even is a secret bucket at that point....

      I mentioned this in another thread but it wouldn't hurt if Blizzard had treasure and bucket picks influence what buckets you get offered subsequently. It's such an obvious feature that I'd be surprising if it wasn't already there, but clearly it isn't working well enough. From the small amount of Tombs of Terror I've played, my impression is that there is some sort of feedback between what buckets you pick and get offered but no such interaction between treasures and buckets, although of course that could just be my bad luck.
