Duels

Duels ruined? Bar too high for new treasures.

Duels has been my favorite new HS feature.

However, with the new patch the best new starting treasures are locked unless you have all of the Darkmoon cards!  

I typically buy the expansion set on each release, so am currently supporting the game like many others, and am able to get the legendaries that I want the most for constructed play and duels decks.  However, I don't want to spend extra money to buy all the cards that I will never use just to unlock treasures in duels!  The old unlocks had a low bar so weren't a big deal for me.  

Besides being disappointed at not getting the treasures that were announced, the bigger problem is it makes it harder to play duels competitively, as I would have to compete against players who have those.  

Anyone share my concern?  Maybe we can together convince HS team to lower the bar for unlocking the treasures, or remove it.  Or make it based on some other metric.

  • I said in another thread this is now the most expensive Hearthstone mode. Not even Standard or Wild requires you have all the cards, or even most of the cards, in any given set. I get that they want to monetize the system, especially given their inability to effectively monetize Battlegrounds, but this feels arbitrary and bad. 

  • There are simply too many barriers to entry. Treasures locked behind collection requirements that are too steep. Wild sets in play. 150 gold for Heroic. It does have a negative effect on the mode, as I'm consistently seeing long queue times and facing the same player in back to back games fairly often. 1 minute queue time after 4 wins then hitting 2 minute queue times after 6 wins. Please, please, please fix this Blizz. 

  • These requirements are all the more baffling since duels is supposed to supplement standard play. Ironically playing in standard is actually cheaper than duels itself because of paywalling.

    And it does impact the game more than most people think. Since its paywalled, there's already very few players and thanks to the bs MMR system there, I've actually have to queue 5 minutes to get a game after going on a 4 game win streak. Lord knows how much longer it will take if by chance I get to 11-0 wins.

  • Hey, I went to the achievements section and redeemed all of those, and then I was able to use all of the treasures!  Try that if you have treasures still locked.  Wish Blizzard would add an auto-redeem achievements button.  I hate having to go scroll around and click them!

  • This paywall has killed Duels mere weeks after its release, and I don't see it being brought back to life even if they are removed. I had tons of fun with it in early access, but when it got officially released and I couldn't play with any of the new treasures because they required 20 Scholomance Epics, I dropped it like a hot potato. I bought the freaking 80 euro pre-order for Scholomance, and I couldn't even use them. This, combined with the aborrent balancing, drove tons of people away. These new treasures will do the same thing to plenty of people who were still left.

    It's really sad, because it's actually a really fun mode with great potential. Shame Blizzard had to ruin it through utter lack of balancing and the worst paywall I've ever seen in HS.
