Control Spell Druid
- Spell Druid
- Duels
- Casual
This is a control deck that utilizes big spells. The goal is to control the board, survive, and make big push turns with doubling your spells, Gidra, or Warden's Insight.
Warden's Insight is the all-star in this deck. You can play this on any turn of the game, and it will be good. Turn 3 gives you 3 2/2s, which most decks cannot handle. Any turn after gives more 2/2's or you can refresh your mana if you need to do a lot on a given turn. Remember, you can pair this with Fendral on turn 7 for a 3/5, 6 2/2's, and still have 7 mana left.
Swipe is the second all-star in this deck. It turns out swipe with +2 spell damage is very powerful. More often than not, you can just swipe the Opponent's face, clearing their board and bringing them closer to death at the same time. If you can double the swipe it gets even more ridiculous.
Notable Exclusions
Lightning Bloom: This is a very good card to run if you are missing any of the other cards in the list. Games 1-3 this card is very good, allowing you to play big spells before the game ends due to such low starting health. However, this card loses a lot of value as the run progresses and starting health totals are higher. If you are having trouble with getting knocked out early in the run, this is a good card to put in.
Gibberling, Savage Roar: The token package I find not worth it. It requires the deck to run a lot more cheap spells, which means one board wipe and the deck runs out of steam. There are many decks running Heart of C'Thun, which is a good enough board wipe against the deck.
Moontouched Amulet : I find Feral Rage better in the deck because of the 2 extra armor you get off of it. Most of the time the 4 attack is not needed on the same turn; its used to gain HP to last against Demon Hunter or Rogue.
Bucket Choices
Swipe. If you see swipe, pick that bucket.
If you don't see swipe, look for other cards that are in the starter deck. Wrath, [Hearthstone Card (Fendral) Not Found], Solar Eclipse, Starfall, and [Hearthstone Card (Grove Warden) Not Found] usually come in good buckets.
Passive Treasure Choices
Generally, you want the treasures that synergize with spells. The best passive from pool 1 is Plaguebringer (spells cost 2 less but overload for 1). The best passive for pool 2 is Double Time. If you get double-time, it should be easy 12 wins.
Stats, Proof, and Games
The deck has achieved 12 wins 3 out of the last 4 times I entered heroic duels with this starter deck. Admittedly, I did get lucky and got Double Time each of those runs, but it goes to show how powerful this deck can be. Here is proof of recent 12 win run in heroic duels.
Here is a funny game I had on that run against a warlock with Cannibalism and From the Swamp. Warlock with those two treasures is considered one of the most powerful end-game decks. The druid played 5 spells total that game and easily KO'ed the warlock: Warlock Game
Here are the last two games of the run, it was pretty much just the Druid swiping face: Game 11 , Game 12
