About to ask on forum regarding which path to choose once I finished Freljord one but luckily found this before that.
This guide (and the begginer one) should be a 'must read' the first time you open this game.

Tips like these are great and eventually you get to a point where you just have abundant ressources.
I have all cards except 48 rares, and I have: 87531 shards, 18 champion, 15 epic, 43 rare and 78 common wild cards. And lastly I have 28 expedition tokens and I have played quite a lot expedition since they released prismatic cards. And this is the collection of a casual player; I can only imagine people who grind this game has way more than me.
I started playing a week before Rising Tides was released and back then I bought some cards to get started with the game. Since then I have been able to craft whatever I wanted, and I can probably craft the entire upcoming expansion.
The economy in this game is just awesome!
Wow, congrats. You've got a bigger stockpile of Wildcards than I do...but I've got literally every card. When this last expansion hit, I decided to damn the torpedoes and craft every card on day one. I don't regret it at all, because my resources have come back to me.
I compare this to pay-to-win Hearthstone and just shake my head. Can't believe that game held me hostage for so long. And I've already given Riot more money than I ever gave Blizzard.
I do all of these and I’m currently 12 epics away from a full collection. I
Good article. If anyone new is reading this, I encourage you NOT to get overwhelmed by the detail here.
The most important points to remember are:
1. Don’t feel obligated to buy the new player starting pack. Unlike most games, you get so much for free that the cost isn’t worth it. Save your money for fun cosmetics!
2. Aim for the rank 10 chest every week. It has great rewards and isn’t hard to get - complete your quests, play most days, and ideally win at least one game most days. That’s enough.
3. Don’t worry about the rank 11 chest. It requires a lot more XP to get, and because you use most of your “easy” XP (from quests and the first daily win) to get to rank 10, that extra XP for rank 11 comes really slowly. And the extra stuff you get for every rank after 10 is minimal.
4. Once you’ve been playing for several days and the system is starting to make sense, read the article's advice about maximizing the Region Road gains. It won’t seem so confusing at that point.
5. You can expect to have enough resources to fully copy a meta deck after 4-6 weeks of playing. After that, you can probably copy a new one every 3-4 weeks. All for free!
That covers the basics. Enjoy the game!
