The Ooze is rising. Trick, treat, craft, and hold the camp.
October 1 - October 31 · Daily resets at midnight Eastern
October is Oozefest! The Ooze is rising out of the pumpkin patch and the camp has one month to get ready for it. Knock on other members' doors for candy, and on realm pages and news articles too: three quarters of the time you get a treat, and the rest of the time you get a trick. Donate candy, timber, bars and fish to the camp defenses to raise the Settlement Level, because every level of it makes everybody hit the bosses harder. Five bosses come one a week, each with three attacks a day and a chapter of the story, and the last of them walks up to the wall on the twenty-ninth. Smelt, tan and weave what you gather into gear at the Forge, then open a shop on your profile and sell what you do not need. The free 50-level pass pays Ectoplasm all month.
Arm the settlement. A full meter levels up the Militia and sends a strike at the boss.

Projects
Preparing for the next battle
No boss is in range, so the crews hold fire. Each trebuchet keeps loading from the stockpiles until it has one full shot ready, then stops drawing ammo and waits. No Food is eaten and nothing is thrown until a boss arrives. Militia strikes bank until then too.
Challenges reset every day at midnight Eastern. Season challenges pay Pass XP - finish about half the month to complete the pass. The Gold challenges run every day, season or not.

If we're all going to get the "Shopkeeper" achievement, we're going to have to buy each other's stuff. What we're all going to do with a bunch of equipment we may or may not need, I don't know.
I think the best way to do this is for people to put their crafting items for other classes up for sale (so Warriors put any supplies they have for Mages and Archers up), so we have something to sell to people who need it without feeling like we're losing anything.
How is everyone handling the daily challenges where you have to leave comments on the site? So far I've posted two comments here, and someone started a thread in the Hearthstone realm, but I definitely can't keep that up the whole month without it just degenerating into total spam.
This is one of those things I was being cautious about because I would like to see people out and about more but yeah spam can be an issue. I think one of the best threads we have is our monthly "what game are you playing" thread where you can just talk freely about what you are playing or what you are planning on doing in games or playing. Easy to give everyone a small update in there on a daily basis (Sidequest totally counts as a game... I think). Also the Sidequest Realm can be a good spot to create a thread for some kind of targeted discussion which could encourage activity amongst the Sidequesters.
Yeah, at this rate, I don't see how it's going down by the seventh.
Also, damn, Pez, I saw the lead you had over everyone else at the end of the last one. It is difficult to fathom how you could be ready to gather that frequently throughout each day, unless you automated it. Wouldn't be all that hard to do I don't think. Just capture what gets sent to the server when you click one of the gather buttons, then have a script running in the background that sends it when the time resets. I didn't care enough to try it, and something like that might put your account in jeopardy, but I'm not even sure it would put that much extra load on the server.
I can assure you there is no automation. I'm not nearly tech-savvy enough for that. I just keep the tab open on my phone and pop over every now and then. It adds up fast.
It would be helpful if the items you could craft listed who can use them. I just spent materials crafting a couple things, then discovered I cannot equip them because I'm an archer.
My guess would've been that you filled all five free shop slots already, but at least right now it looks like you only have three items there. Did you manage to sell two more or did the issue cap you at three?
Nope, just those. The items I currently have listed I put there directly from crafting, while the ones I can't list I had in my inventory. Maybe that's why?
