The Ooze is rising. Trick, treat, craft, and hold the camp.
October 1 - October 31 · Daily resets at midnight Eastern
October is Oozefest! The Ooze is rising out of the pumpkin patch and the camp has one month to get ready for it. Knock on other members' doors for candy, and on realm pages and news articles too: three quarters of the time you get a treat, and the rest of the time you get a trick. Donate candy, timber, bars and fish to the camp defenses to raise the Settlement Level, because every level of it makes everybody hit the bosses harder. Five bosses come one a week, each with three attacks a day and a chapter of the story, and the last of them walks up to the wall on the twenty-ninth. Smelt, tan and weave what you gather into gear at the Forge, then open a shop on your profile and sell what you do not need. The free 50-level pass pays Ectoplasm all month.
Arm the settlement. A full meter levels up the Militia and sends a strike at the boss.

Projects
Preparing for the next battle
No boss is in range, so the crews hold fire. Each trebuchet keeps loading from the stockpiles until it has one full shot ready, then stops drawing ammo and waits. No Food is eaten and nothing is thrown until a boss arrives. Militia strikes bank until then too.
Challenges reset every day at midnight Eastern. Season challenges pay Pass XP - finish about half the month to complete the pass. The Gold challenges run every day, season or not.

I wish candy would stack. It would almost certainly take work to implement, but it sucks that if I eat one, it just erases the effect of the other and you get nothing from the one before.
There is a note now that makes it clear that this is the case. People would be able to do way too wild of attacks if it was possible to stack the buffs up. There will be some stackable buffs in the future, like you'll be able to eat a particular kind of food for a Well Fed buff and Candy could be used as well to gain something. Since Candy does the same kind of buff though it just varies on the rarity of it, they cannot be stacked.
Yeah, bought out all of the affordable fish from the market for the crews. Hoping that will induce a restock from the chef. But it is a problem for sure.
Hard to say for sure; those things didn’t exactly come with a manual. That’s the reason why I’m leaning towards upgrading unless we are confident that we can sustain the increased demand for siege ball production (although upgrading might also speed up the launches).
I do think fire balls are the best way to go though; the brittle debuff from frost balls requires us to attack the boss within 1 hour to get any bonus damage, while fire balls give those delightful scorched DoTs. In case anyone is lacking the embershrooms to make those, I put some in my shop.
I noticed that the Trebuchets say "Level 1: 180 per shot", which makes me think that increasing level increases damage per ball, and hopefully not the ball burn rate. If that is the case it might be worth trying for a Trebuchet upgrade next time
Leather and Flax right now are harder to come by than ore. There are some random events though that can trigger (they show up at the top of pages when they happen) which lets you claim different materials that can be found. This was something secret that was put into place so I'm mentioning it here instead of in the patch notes so more people are surprised by it.
I do see that several members have claimed them thus far, but one thing is there is a small bug with it. The text telling you that you can share your find with others, is not appearing on our production website due to a caching issue. I'm going to put a fix out for it but basically, when you find a "wild node" on your site travels, the idea is that you can go and share a link to that content to other people and they too can reap some rewards. It becomes a game of mini-game of discovery.
Also, completing an activity for the first time gives out raw materials as of this evening. There is a limit of these of 5 reward actions per day, we don't communicate that anywhere in the site UI, it is just a hard limit in place to try and curb excessive material farming from one section of the site.
The economy balance is tough. I had an idea of how many people might engage with the boss fights based on how many people we have login every day and their browsing activity levels, but I had expected a few more. It's entirely possible that people aren't very aware of what's going on yet. I was writing a news article to talk about Oozefest a few days ago and got interrupted multiple times so it's not finished yet. Sinti also had the great idea about making a video about the event, which I was leaning towards dropping one on Week 3 of the event when Trebuchets were going to become available, but since they are available now, it sounds like I should get on that.
