Rewards Track: Current progress

Submitted 4 years, 1 month ago by

Hi, we are now 3 days into the new progression system and I am wondering what your current progress on the new rewards track and your overall experience is.

I play about 1 or 2 hours a day, finished all daily and weekly quests (with the 15% XP bonus boost) and I have reached level 17. My first impressions are:

- I only play ranked now since it rewards more XP

- The rewards track feels like a drag, because the progress has halted compared against the start

- The urge to win has become almost non-existent, because losing still rewards XP

- The rewards track has altered the way I play and I am not sure if this a positive change or not

- Hearthstone has become even more expensive than it already was

Calculations aside, I wonder at which level I will end up on the rewards track and if indeed it is going to fulfill Blizzard's promise of equal or more 'gold' acquired before the next expansion hits.

I run two f2p accounts one is level 15 the other is level 16, and from there my progress has hit a brick wall. Nothing i do nets me experience. the quests i have all orbit around playing ranked ladder. Something i HATE doing. And i will not do just because it tells me to. Mostly i have been playing a lot of battlegrounds to get those hero specific achievements. I have gotten a new hero almost every time, and i usually get top 4(sometimes luckier, but never first) so it has been a grind for those as well. I have only had to concede when not getting a new hero once, and i only did it because someone else was playing mister bigglesworth and since that hero is trash, i bought a Vulgar Homunculus and conceded, to brighten their day, hopefully they won, but they probably didn't.

    Living like that.

Hi there, looks like I´m on the same road as you, lvl 17 with the boost. I´m affraid the path will be harder and harder everytime, since higher levels will need 3000-9000 XP and that will be a hard work to achieve imo. I´m looking forward to yesterday´s 3 weekly quests, because 1 daily quest a day is nothing, more so on higher levels. Let´s see how it turns out later.

I'm at level 16 with boost. The first levels were a breeze but then it started to scale. If this continues (which I fully expect) it will be a hell of a grind. Initially I thought the new track might turn out to be good, but after a couple of days I begin to feel disappointed. The main points which piss me off so far:

    • XP for achievements is a joke, way too low for way too much time investment (plus some requiring certain cards)
    • No XP for Arena and some other modes (feels bad if Arena is one of your main game modes)
    • Being punished for being a casual player (no I dont play one hour per day on average, I have a real life)
    • Getting useless old packs instead of gold (ever heard of player agency Blizz?)

And last but not least the way Blizzard thinks they can handle the situation, the lack of transparency and all the so far unfounded promises. I initially believed them when they said that nobody will lose. Not anymore. As somebody who works in the service industry myself I can tell you that you should not treat your customers like this. That said I am not ready to quit HS yet but I am certainly closer to it than ever.

English is not my native language, so please excuse occasional mistakes

Same here. Lebel 16, the following levels will be grindier and grindier. Imagine grind a week for level 48 (9000 exp) to get a pack from Year of Dragon which will rotate in 3 weeks by then. The game forces you to play modes you do not want to play (duels for example which I really do not like since you can be steamrolled without any chance) and the exp gain is very small.

I bought the Tavern Pass on the day it was released so I have had the boost for almost all my game play since the new system started.

I am a daily player, but I don't track my hours per day. Some days it is a lot (probably 3-4) and some days it isa little as 1/2 an hour just to finish the daily. I also don't mind playing BGs, duels, etc., but my focus is definitely ranked. For what it's worth, I only play Arena/ranked Duels if I have a free ticket or another external incentive.

I am currently less than 100 points from Level 19 being completed. I grinded Duels as Shaman yesterday a bit to complete the XP achievements for Grand Totem Eys'or, which was a nice bonus to realize I could complete it in that format (didn't need to have the card, the Shaman hero power will give it to you randomly).

I am going to reserve my personal judgment on the whole program nearer to the end of the expansion in 3-4 months time once I see how my gold haul has gone. First impressions are that it is going to feel like a grind, especially at the higher levels, and not getting the 10 gold per three wins is already feeling lamer. I will be judging gold vs gold take to judge whether this was all "worth it"

Given the projections that many others have put forth for the amount of time/XP needed to get certain amounts of gold, I am a bit discouraged. As J Alexander put it so well on his stream a few days ago: <very rough paraphrase> "I'd love to feel better about giving Blizzard my money..." I have been a paid player for a couple years (buy pre-orders and $/pack beneficial ratio bundles), and I don't (yet) regret any of it (I love the collection element of the game, and I love having more cards at my disposal in standard and in wild), but I do wish that the new system felt better in a tangible way.

Edit: at first it looked like Tavern Brawls and Duels were not giving me experience and that was really upsetting to me, but as of yesterday it appears they are (I think - I keep checking back at my XP progress after each match to make sure!)

    Good points!

By the way, the most annoying missing feature is not always showing how much XP is gained after each game. One might wonder how such a simple yet useful feature could have been forgotten 🙄

I usually stay away from conspiracy theories or hidden agendas, but this seems almost like to be done on purpose to shroud how little XP is gained each and every time.

I agree that it's a shame that feature isn't included currently. I suspect/hope that they'll add it in a later patch because the player base will demand it.

    The new progression system has a few problems, aside from it being generally shit, and my experience with it was thus;

    - Like all of you guys, I've grinded up the quests, especially the weeklies, just so I don't lose value. I'm around level 14 now in case you're wondering, and its been a little of a drag I have to say. You get like a huge influx of stuff within the first few hours then it all trickles down to an eyedropper before you start realising that even after 2 hours of gameplay you're essentially getting nothing. And we're only just getting started. It shudders me to think that at around level 45 - 50 the requirements are tens of thousands xp just to raise the level by 1. How many weeks are we to starve in between leveling up.

    - This one is purely just a feel, but I think its significant. Since you don't get that 10g every 3 wins (you don't even get to see how much xp you're earning per match) every match seems unrewarding bar the game itself. So you can be on a 7 game streak but with no interface telling you your progression, it feels like its all for nothing.

    - The xp gained for winning is actually higher compared to losing. That's clear enough. But you'd still get something for losing. I know team5 have been concerned over this part, but wouldn't some hacker just create a bot and let it queue a few million games roping the shit off your opponents and farming xp that way? I guess its inevitable anyway, but pretty soon a cap per day will be implemented to stop this abuse, but it seems like there's no real way of tackling farming via bots.

    - Yes I agree that the achievement is a joke of a concept, even worst still that they added it in to their estimates on total rewards earned per expansion. Let's be honest here. The achievements are walled by specific cards, usually requiring at least one legendary (specifically) per class, so if you opened up Zai, the Incredible instead of Il'gynoth, well, you're fresh out of luck.

Most of us will hardly get near even half of all the legendaries by the end of the expansion, and now we're supposed to think that its our own fault for not pursuing this rubbish of a system. In what world will I willingly craft Oh My Yogg! or even Darkmoon Rabbit is beyond me.

    Just one last note;

Anyone had the unfortunate experience of not finishing up their weekly quests? I really would like to know if you still get 3 of them at the start of the week, or if its just 1750xp wasted.

100xp difference isnt that much to force yourself play ranked, if you like other game modes imho.

Before I start, I'm going to make it clear that I'm not for or against the new system because I don't know how my net gold or rewards will look at the end of this expansion cycle.

         - I am currently level 18 (with the XP boost from purchasing) while only playing ~1-2 hours a day so that means, according to this table found here, that I have earned at least 23,400 experience in three days by doing dailies, weeklies, and random achievement bonuses. That being said, an expansion cycle is (typically) 4 months/~120 days. So if we do the math; 23,400 divided by 3 is 7,800. Now multiply that by 120 and we get 936,000, which according to the graph table listed above puts me at maxing out the rewards track. If my math is wrong please correct me, and I'm not making a case for the rewards track, I'm just putting out what I (super capitalized) have gotten to and what I might get to by the end of this cycle.

         - I hop between Ranked Wild (with trash decks because Rez Priest infests Casual Wild) and BG's most of the time and haven't really touched Duels all that much. One common complaint among players and myself is that most of the achievements are only obtainable by playing Ladder. Meaning no matter what tribe you run, strategy you use, or keyword you're working with is not being tracked in the achievement system which is a big no-no. Hearthstone attracted a lot of players with the new FREE mode and making a system that requires them to step into unfamiliar territory unwillingly is likely to drive a few players away since they'll max out the BG achievements in no time.

         - The urge to win is still there, 500/1000 win portraits are still a thing and many players haven't achieved that amount of ranked wins, myself being an example even though I've played since Naxx (out). You've also missed a HUGE point. It would be a slap in the face (and another 50 r/hearthstone forum posts) to not reward players somehow for playing. Imagine playing a ~20 minute control game to lose and not get XP, #feelsbadman.

         - I like the Rewards Track, it gives me more goals other than "Play X games as X", or the 500/1000 win goals mentioned earlier. However, looking at the paid track VS the free track, it's not good. They could've sprinkled a little more gold here and there rather than only get a paid reward every 5 levels.

         - Is Hearthstone getting more expensive? Yes. Did Hearthstone ever get cheaper in the past? Yes, in theory. Back when they implemented duplicate protection across all rarities earlier this year I thought to myself, "They'll make up for the loss somehow". Because of that now we have (objectively) less gold at the end of the rewards track unless you play an unhealthy amount of Hearthstone. Additionally now we have the mini sets, which is something LOATHED because I knew the set wouldn't be free, yet people won't look beyond a stale meta to figure that out. So because of people shouting ideas at Team 5 without thinking of the possible ramifications we get 35 extra cards that aren't going to be free.

         - As a paying player, the Rewards Track felt fucking awful to pay for. That's $150 US dollars for one expansion, the Mega-Bundle, the standard pre-order bundle, and the rewards track is what I've paid for this cycle. I cannot fathom why the Rewards Tack wasn't included in the Mega-Bundle, I cannot understand why I can't trade my 30+ Arena Tickets in for the Track. So all that means for me is that I'm not buying both bundles anymore. Wild has become my Format of choice and it's incredibly cheaper in the long run.

Don’t even bother, played for like 2-3 hours in ranked and only got like 200 xp... out of like the 2000 I need to progress? Fuck this new system.

This ain't no place for a hero

When the new track was released they filled out our quest bar with 3 normal quests and 3 weeklies (I think that includes the duels quest which awards scholomance packs). So technically you're counting the xp gained in the last 3 days using a metric where you've fully completed 5 dailies and 3 weeklies. Wouldn't be representative

Disclude the achievements xp. Its one time only and its a pain in the arse to complete. I wouldn't use it as a metric anyway.

To properly calculate it, just imagine a week's worth of quest plus a decent amount of playtime xp. The math is readily available in reddit if you're interested. Just add in your 10% boost.

Its not possible to max out without playing at least 5 hours a day. Even with the boost I'm sure its impossible to achieve without committing like full time to it.

Agreed with this. @griffior - do those calculations again at the start of next week, when you don't have the front-loaded dump of all sorts of extra exp to get started. THAT will be the accurate metric of how much exp you will get daily

Same thought. The mega bundle seems to have lost value. I kinda regret buying it.

Currently level 17 (501/2600) towards 18, and I do not have the Tavern Pass. I only played Ranked Standard to get to Gold 10 otherwise I've been playing Battle Grounds/Duels for achievements. I did complete last weeks win 7 games of Ranked Play mode via low Bronze Wild while completing Ride Together, Die Together, Lothraxion's Balloon Shop & Two Punch Man.

Another 3 days later, currently just landed on track reward level 25 (new warrior portrait + random legendary). Experience still feels like a huge drag, I probably already played more HS in a single month in the last few days. Also finished a 9 wins Duels run which got me quite some XP and currently trying to do some of the stupid Darkmoon Faire specific achievements for some additional XP. Being on level 25, does not mean I am halfway to level 50 coz the XP required rises with each level, but the XP amount we gain remains the same 😤

Btw, the rewards track response by Blizzard is of course a step in the right direction, but also another slap in our faces. It's just another example of how out of touch they are with reality. They simply lied to us, did nothing about the XP gain difficulty and we are still not going to get equal or more gold this expansion cycle so it seems. The even bigger elephant in the room is the introduction of the mini-expansion which means that HS has become even more expensive.

I'm at level 20 and have played mostly Duels since the system released.

I haven't tracked time but I usually play roughly 2 hours per day, mostly once my family has gone to bed. I would guesstimate my play is split 30% ranked (mostly standard), 60% duels, 10% arena. I don't see myself spending much time digging through achievements and expect I'll be well below my usual 6k gold by the time the next set launches. Clicking around that interface to find unfinished items is not how I want to play Hearthstone.

Now you kids are probably saying to yourselves, "Hey Matt, how can we get back on the right track?"

Im at 20 playing mostly Battlegrounds, bit or arena and ranked just for the weekly quest. One thing is nice, that it does seem like playing whatever mode has you gain similar progress as others playing a different mode. Part about the time it takes to get there or the rewards is a different topic.

I didn't finish the 7 ranked wins quest last week because i didn't feel like playing a long time on ladder at all. I got only 3 wins while completing other quests. The quest carried over with 3 wins to the next week which means i probably lost a ton of exp in the process. Doesn't bother me that much because i'm not going to bend over and do whatever the game wants me to do when i don't want to but the short answer is: Yes, you will be severely punished if you don't submit to the game's demands.

Agreed with this. @griffior - do those calculations again at the start of next week, when you don't have the front-loaded dump of all sorts of extra exp to get started. THAT will be the accurate metric of how much exp you will get daily

So let me redo the math instead, let's subtract all the daily quests up to day three when this thread was made. Which takes away roughly ~5000 XP away from the sum I had at that time. So the total would be 18,400 XP, divided by three which is 6,133. Then multiply that by ~120 is 736,000 which still puts me at above maxing out the Track. However one thing I forgot about for the initial calculation were the achievements that I may have gotten which bloated the total amount of XP. As you can tell it's just too late to try to calculate this mess, our best option is to wait for the next track to start making calculations.

I'm currently at level 23 today and the grind is definitely there and it feels especially bad because now instead of achievements being a happy accidents I'm finding myself Achievement Hunting, which is not something I like doing at my age.

One thing I'd like to add however is that the Rewards Track is only a ~week old and I'm already almost halfway through it and I'm saying this is a good thing, I'm saying that the potential for a real grindfest is still possible towards the end of the track which is something I am absolutely not looking forward to.

I've been playing almost every day since the new system's launch, for about 3-4 hours, and I'm only at Rank 21. My quest trays are constantly empty after the first two days, I think I finished the weekly quests that quick. I think they need to provide more quests instead of just giving one daily, especially for players who manage to finish everything quickly.

While I appreciate the frontloaded rewards, they're just not enough, and the extremely slow progress of leveling up is just really demotivating. The only thing keeping me going right now is my quest to get the 1000-win portraits for Warrior (901 wins) and Demon Hunter (723); other than that, playing for little reward other than fun seems pretty bad. I mean, fun is good, but I've invested heavily in this game so I expect a bit more in return.

That sounds pretty miserable. How much un-fun would you have to have before you considered trying one of the other games featured on this site?

I played Battlegrounds quite a bit before, but I grew tired of it eventually. It just felt boring. Duels is much better, though after seeing the pitiful rewards you'll get even after 12 wins (check out RDU's video when he opened his rewards), I don't feel as inclined to try it.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy playing ranked. Right now my goal of getting those 1,000-win portraits for Warrior and DH is enough to keep me playing. My only wish is for the rewards to be better eventually, which I think they will be.

One thing I'd like to add however is that the Rewards Track is only a ~week old and I'm already almost halfway through it and I'm saying this is a good thing, I'm saying that the potential for a real grindfest is still possible towards the end of the track which is something I am absolutely not looking forward to.

Although the reward track shows that you are almost halfway through to reaching level 50, the required amount of XP to reach that level would say that you are just about 25% on the way currently. This seems so wrong to me, coz the amount of XP gained after each game played does not change at all and the rewards also do not scale up significantly enough.

I'm at level 25, got the other free legendary last night. I played a lot and I mean a lot since the new progression launched, because I got the BG quest and played BG just to clear it but I ended up liking the mode.

This battle system is absolutely brutal and slow. You have to wait several days to get another level even if you play a lot like me. Meanwhile the old system you are guaranteed 100 gold every 2 days even if you play less than an hour per day.

I tried doing the DMF achivements to get some extra exp, and they are just so bad lol. They are either give too little EXP (100), or are just too hard to do in ranked mode and is a waste of time.

Blizzard really screwed us with this update.

Agree with both, too slow progress and very hard achievments in ranked mode

safest bet is to run BGs in the background when not playing other modes. cooking? launch BGs. studying? launch BG's. playing a non online game like the witcher? launch BGs.

ive actually been playing a bit of BGs not just letting it run with inactivity. its not a bad mode, u get decent xp for ur time

Newly made level 23 (244/3200) towards 24. I've been collecting the Darkmoon Faire xp achievements & completed Duelist 5-9 yesterday before the launch that netted me 5,800 xp. I posted in the 80g (That needs a name update!) quest trading thread if any1 on NA has the Challenge a Friend daily.

Currently, lvl 21 and the rewards track feels awful. I don't know about the math but it feels like it takes 3 days of dailies to get 100 gold while it used to take only one day to get 60 gold. The weekly quests should be the daily quests. Blizzard slowed down the gold amount and stopped the ten gold for 3 wins. I feel like I am not really incentivized to play as 400 experience for an hour is insanely lower than 10 gold for three wins. It feels really bad and a loss of efficacy. I am scared that the Pluderin' Pirates card back from September 2014 might pop up in the hearthstone shop and I will be powerless to get the gold that I need to pay for it. So I need to keep at least 500 gold in my account just for that purpose.

I think this new rewards track might actually slowly kill the game because it feels like players have fewer real ways of getting gold. At the very least give the players back the 3 wins for 10 gold option.

I am proud of those content creators who are taking a stand on YouTube and other platforms against  the new reward track as this game is not just for fun but their way of getting money.

The above comment assumes a Hearthstone Wild perspective.

It would be awesome if the level 25 reward was a guaranteed Old God. Hell, they should have made the legendary you get at the start of the rewards track an Old God. I still don't understand why they couldn't give players a free Old God at the expansion's launch. I'm just lucky I got Yogg-Saron, Master of Fate as my golden legendary from the bundle.

They were so generous with gifting us all the Galakrond cards in Descent of Dragons last year so it's reasonable that players feel shafted right now. But then again, that was right after the Blitzchung controversy so Blizzard probably gave them away for free just to appease the fanbase. My hunch is they never really intended to make the Galakronds free too.

Imo the real problem with the xp track is that the curve accelerates too fast.

It's going to be a real pain to feel any real progression beyond level 30, because level requirements rise exponentially, with a too high exponent imo.

Everyone's talking of gold, which is important, but progression is everything in any xp system: if you feel none despite quite some investment, and if all you get is a dull bunch of gold (in character-based games slow progression is compensated by new perks that change the way you play or its quality), interest will drop soon into the same flatness as the old system - or worse because of exhaustion.

The Galakronds were a seriously special case, because they were there in addition to the usual 25 legendaries. They, like the original C'Thun, are also distinct from the new Old God cards in that there was a significant fraction of the set that only worked with them and was basically text-less without them. Meanwhile, the new Old Gods work with cards that function by themselves, or in C'Thun's case, are generated without needing anything else.

Given that, I don't think there is any reason to believe they were ever planned to be collected in packs. There is certainly room for them to be more generous, but I don't think the Galakronds are a great comparison point here.

    ------------------------------------

As for my thoughts on whether the reward track feels too grind-y, I am not too fussed about it. I have never been someone who needs rewards to make it feel like it was worth my time: I am playing the game because I enjoy the games themselves, no so much for the tangible rewards along the way. So I'm not going to lose motivation to play the game at the higher levels when it takes a while to level up.

I have just reached level 25 (no Tavern Pass), which took me about 9 days. Cumulative XP-wise level 25 is about a fifth of the way to level 50. Even being conservative and assuming I get XP at half the speed from now on, that's about 4*18=72 more days to get to level 50. That honestly doesn't sound like a daunting slog to me, especially since I knew going into it that it would be something spanning 4 months.

Short update -> After 11 days I'm currently at level 31 with the next level almost in sight, but this is mostly due to the influx of XP gained from newly received weekly quests. The slow XP grind is really starting to become unbearable. Especially since I will be running out of XP from achievements to gain from which do not require absurd conditions or legendaries/epics I do not (yet) own.

I hope by the end of this week, I will reach level 35 where the 20% XP boost is located. I know the extra 5% XP boost does not make up for the inequal scaling up of the required XP per level though.

Ughhh, after grinding to level 25 for that free legendary, I got Deck of Chaos too. So far, almost every single legendary I've gotten this expansion has been useless, aside from the free Yogg I got from the bundle and Grand Totem Eys'or from a golden pack. Everything else has been unusable.

I wouldn't really mind the RNG nature of the legendaries we get, if only we had a viable alternative to attaining them. But given the game's absolutely miserly economy, I really have to be careful with how to spend the precious dust I've hoarded up over the past few expansions. I want to craft Inara Stormcrash so I can complete my Enhancement Shaman deck (it's doing well without her though), and I wanna craft N'Zoth, the Corruptor for Wild as well. But I feel like if I spend my dust, I'll be wasting them now that I won't be buying bundles anymore, so I'll have no other choice for the foreseeable future but to grind out games for XP that will only lead to measly rewards.

I hope they introduce some fixes soon. Reddit has been protesting non-stop, let's hope it actually leads somewhere.

I am in nearly the same camp - I will probably be level 33, maybe even close to 34, by the end of today thanks to the weekly quests and my OCD need to complete them in the first day.

I'm trying to quit this game, and threads like this and the ones on reddit are convincing me to drop this game.

I'm still hopeful ActivisionBlizzard will do something to address these issues, but it doesn't look like it ...

Amazing, I just encountered an opponent with the level 50 reward; the alternate coin. That would mean he/she accomplished this feat within 11 days! 🤯

Not sure what to think of this appearance though.

EDIT: I double checked, it was NOT the paid reward track cosmetic coin. My bad!

Yeah, sorry I jumped the gun here, my bad! I was too startled by it at first sight.

I double checked the cosmetic coin requirements and it was indeed the completed MDF expansion coin and not the paid reward track one.

Now, I can calm down again 😋

Two weeks in and I reached level 35 today. According to my XP calculations, it means I'm about 46% on track to reach level 50. I almost reached the halfway point, yay!

Strangely enough, my progress to level 100 is now 21% and to level 150 is 14%. This is because of the steep XP curve towards level 50 and afterwards it drops and rises up much flatter onwards.

    How are you progressing? 😅

I just hit level 25. Got the Totem... The frigging Totem... So i got nothing on level 25 as i have no use and no interest in this card. Getting legendaries completely at random like this is starting to feel terrible because i'm already used to the Wild Cards and freedom of choice in Legends of Runeterra.

Edit: Tried the Totem today. I was only missing one Splitting Axe (bye bye 400 dust...) so i decided to test it even if i don't like it. The card itself is probably the best support ever printed for the totem archetype. The deck sucks though. Lost 4 times in a row against a variety of decks. Vicious Syndicate posted their meta report yesterday and they said that Totem Shaman is starting to struggle already. It's early success was derived from the fact that the meta is in complete chaos and full of suboptimal decks. Now that other decks are starting to become more refined and the meta is slowly stabilizing, the deck's flaws are starting to appear again. It just crumbles when it can't establish a board. Most of the decks out there fight fiercely for the board and the only stickiness of the deck comes from Totem Goliath. The card is still too slow. The buff made it less awful... but it still sucks. This deck really has no other path to follow. It doesn't have other card options or ways to switch and adapt its strategy. It seems its only destiny is the dumpster tier.

HSreplay has Totem Shaman has the #1 tier 2 deck as of right now with a overall winrate of 56.59 which I feel is about right. I used the deck to go to Plat 10 from Gold 3 today & i had a 75% w/r.

Anyway, I'm level 32 (just completed the win 7 ranked games quest + 1 of my friends had the Challenge a friend quest.)

That is only for Bronze through Gold ranks. Hyper aggressive decks like this nearly always do well in the bottom ranks. It's around Diamond 5 and upwards that things become tough. The meta report always speaks about the Diamond ranks (which are considered the absolute lowest in terms of competition) and upwards as it is focused on competitive play.

It may be helpful to mention the game mode and time played per day to get a feel for how different play styles are progressing.

I'm level 29 (close to 30 with 3598/4050 XP) while playing roughly 90 minutes per day. I'd guess 70% standard ranked, 25% arena, and down to 5% duels because it is so poorly balanced.

I did one queue into Battlegrounds and afk'd it but feel like that's a terrible thing to do to players that like that mode so I won't do that again and will not be reaching any BG achievements. Now I'm sticking to playing my way to get a true measure of how I progress in the new system that is supposed to reward us the same or more while playing our way. I should be able to reach 1000 wins with DH over the next few weeks.

Now you kids are probably saying to yourselves, "Hey Matt, how can we get back on the right track?"

The devs really should think about just giving us arcane dust as a reward instead of a random legendary. It would've been better if the level 25 reward was 2,000 dust or something, so players can be free to craft whatever they want, whether they be one legendary and an epic, four epics, etc. I got Deck of Chaos from level 25 which is just terrible (threw it in my Cubelock deck for Wild where it's still a terrible inclusion).

In fact, the level rewards should be much more diverse and generous like the old legendary quests we used to have. Remember quests that reward us with a pack, dust, and gold at the same time? Getting a single pack at level 28, an AOO one that just gave me 40 dust, is really depressing.

I feel you on Grand Totem Eys'or. If you'd gotten it earlier maybe you'd have enjoyed it more, since it was really dominant in the first week. I got it from a golden pack, so I can dust it whenever I want :P

I was lucky to hit LVL 35 with the Mondays Daily quest, so I´ve managed to finish all the three of my Weeklies with 20% boost, which instantly gave me another LVL. With todays Daily quest I´ve hit exactly LVL 37. Now I need to wait few more days to get another 5800 XP for the next LVL.

P.S. I play mostly Casual Duels for the achievements, and the last days was playing on Ranked trying to push for Legend. Play few hours a day, quite a lot during weekends.

I agree. It's such a simple solution. Just give us some freedom of choice. Let us decide what we want and if it end up sucking later then it wouldn't be their fault as it was our own choice. A risk we took when choosing our cards. The way it is right now alongside the absolutely terrible value for disenchanting just causes a lot of players with a limited collection to lose a lot. A random legendary only matters for completionists and people who invest a lot and can play with any class.

Level 33 right now without the pass. I know that many people hate the grind and find 4 months long track horrible, but I find it totally ok and normal. I'm one of those who played WoW for a long time and grinding those levels from 1 to 60/70/80 could take casually playing a long time. Getting the top level was actually the start of the gear and reputation grind.

I mean, if you just love the gameplay and don't play just for rewards, you naturally will enjoy gaming more and those 50 levels don't really feel that bad.

Level 32 or 33 I don't remember. I hit my legendary pity timer a couple of days ago so I don't pay as much attention anymore.

Grind is really shit in this system but oh well.

Keep the current exp system but re-introduce the gold system so quests give both exp and gold and I guarantee 99% of user base would be happy but considering this hearthstone and Blizzard this would be ''too generous'' for them lol.

I am currently at level 34. I had some bad luck with the dailies recently and so I didn't play much to not accidentally complete them because I wanted to reroll.

On a slightly different note, I tracked my progression per game to verify the 400XP/h that Blizzard stated. That seems to be roughly true, actually I'm even a little above that (490xp an hour on average, with 15% bonus from the tavern pass, 460 would be 400 + 15%).

Another observation I made was that wins consistently give more xp than losses. Granted, my sample size is still small. It is quite tedious to note game times and xp gained, subtract quest and achievement xp and such, but I see a clear trend. With the 15% bonus I consistently get about 9xp/min (or 540xp/h) for every win (n=8), for a loss it is only about 6xp/min (360xp/h, n=5).

I would be curious if anybody else has made similar observations, in my perception the official statement was that there should be no difference between win or loss as far as xp is concerned (supposedly leading to an increase in bots and roping).

I have wondered about whether it is worth waiting to not complete 800 xp dailies, since you are losing xp from time spent playing in the process. I suppose this is one thing that actually makes it nice to not complete dailies in all game modes, since you could leave it to re-roll while messing around in other game modes.

The official statement did say we get more for wins (see "winning matters" at the start of Dean Ayala's post here: https://outof.cards/hearthstone/2196-hearthstones-new-progression-system-the-reward-track-has-time-based-experience-xp-per-hour-no-daily-cap-yet), but of course they gave no details about how much.

This weekend I hit level 46 with the bonus XP boost. I should reach level 50 exactly 7 days from now... the reward track is really a terrible grind. At least levels 50+ require significantly less XP per level.

Currently level 38 with 1761/5800 towards 39. Obviously, that will change a bit next week with the patch. The 20% reduction should make this thing reasonable and much more likely to meet the dev's goal of providing better rewards. It's been a week since my last post so I jumped from 29 to 38 in 8 days.

I'd estimate 60% standard ranked with 30% duels & 10% arena. I did not purchase the pass. I hit 1000 wins with Demon Hunter over the weekend so my time will be mostly Duels and Arena moving forward. Once I hit diamond 5 (currently at 8) each season I'll say goodbye to ranked play.

Now you kids are probably saying to yourselves, "Hey Matt, how can we get back on the right track?"

I am 1/3 of the way through level 43 (bought the pass).

I have seen two people on ladder with level 50 hero portraits, and have seen a couple more  in streams I watch. Level 44 feels a mile away - the update to rewards can't come soon enough. I have rolled the 800XP (960 XP for me with the 20% boost) quest 2 days in a row (rolled and re-rolled) and it feels terrible. Work is busy and I have not been able to play more than a few games a day this week. At this rate I won't be at 44 until Monday when we get the new weekly quests, because I am only earning 1200-1500 XP a day, which is really poor in terms of gold/day.

I should reach level 50 by the very end of this weekend, only 16000 XP short of level 50 currently. I wonder how many levels boost we will receive with the Rewards Track update on December 15th. I can probably calculate it myself, but I would like it to be a surprise.

As a sidenote, which hero portrait will you all choose? Demon Hunter would probably be my most logical choice since I only have 88 wins with that class, but some of the others look nicer though.

I am hearing a lot of folks on Twitch saying they will likely pick Valeera at 50 for more rogue variety. I have not given it much thought personally. I am thinking I may just wait until I hit 50 to actually think about it. Frankly, I like a lot of them. I probably won't choose Mage or Shaman because with the paid track there's no shortage of options for skins on those classes.

I am half way between levels 40 and 41, so I still have some way to go yet, but when I get there I'll pick Valeera. No doubt about it. It's the coolest imo, I play rogue most, and something has to make up for rogue's lack of hero portraits.

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd really use any of the other ones. I'm not that keen on some of them, and for the rest I either prefer the basic portraits or I much prefer alternative heroes for the class anyway. E.g. the Illidan and Garrosh ones look cool, but I will always prefer Aranna and Magni, especially once voicelines are considered.

Don't know if this is the right place for this and its not that big a deal really, but I've just hit Level 33 and got no Year Of The Dragon Pack. Oh it made all the right noises but there's nothing there. No pack to open.

     Odd.

I think they removed packs from the later levels of the rewards track (after level 27 maybe). They should just be rewarding (more) gold than before now. There was a lot of negative feedback from the player base regarding packs at those levels.

Valeera's portrait is interesting and dynamic, most of the others look too similar to other options they currently have. Unfortunately, I barely play rogue.

I am currently at level 38. I play a lot on the weekend, not so much during the week.

Same, Valeera is one of the best there but Rogue might be my least played class overall (I still don't know where my Shaman wins are from as I can't recall playing the class that heavily either...). I might end up picking Valeera anyway, or maybe Jaina. Others seem quite a lot like "same old" to me.

I finally managed to reach level 51 before the reward track gets updated later today. For the rewards, I picked the alternate coin and the Nightslayer Valeera hero portrait (hoping I will play that class more often). With the rewards track update, I should get a boost to level 80 instantly. I will wait and not open the 5 Darkmoon Faire packs we will be receiving today until the mini expansion is released.

Level 33 atm, without the XP boost.

I like a lot of the avaible portraits, Valeera and Jaina looks really cool but I already have Maiev and Khadgar and like those. I need new faces for Shaman, Hunter, DH and Warrior, but I'm not a fan of the new Thrall and would prefer the 1000W if I ever get there. I like the new Garrosh, but I almost never play Warrior now so we'll see. New Rexxar/Illidan is kinda meh, but I prefer both classes over Warrior so maybe. Both Malfurion and Gul'dan have cool new portraits so I might upgrade from Lunara/Nemsy. So right now I'm choosing between 4 or 5 of the options. :D (Not removing Arthas or Tyrande, no way.)

so the mini expansion isnt gonna be released in the form of an adventure? or somekind of thing where u spend around 2k gold and u get all the cards from the mini expansion? u saying its gonna be added into the regular Darkmoon Faire packs? cause that would be a first

Yes, they have said that a mini expansion will be released about halfway into this latest expansion and those cards will be obtainable through regular Darkmoon Faire card packs. This is part of the elaborate scheme IMO to have people buy more packs with real money at the beginning of the expansion if they want to play with more decks from the get go. I myself, will not do that and just have to adjust my pack openings from all occurring at the start of a new expansion and redistribute that quite a bit to leave pack openings halfway the expansion possible without using real money.

For a whale like me, this is not really a problem since I have accumulated upwards of 200K convertible arcane dust over the years (I usually buy every package deal), but it feels really bad to me at least to spend that arcane dust in a significant way. I know the purpose of dust is to craft cards with (I can hear you) but it still feels bad to do it. I tend to craft a few legendaries every expansion but my arcane dust pile keeps growing.

Exactly, so if you already opened at least 40-50 DMF packs keep the new ones unopened to get the commons and rares of mini expansion. You will get at least 4 packs from Winter Weil event, 5 packs from compensation, few from monthly rewards

what the hell? so that basically means the packs we opened from Darkmoon Faire werent even worth its 100 gold each since u were getting dupes rares and commons when u could be getting the extra ones that are missing. thats next level rip off. cant believe they went that way

Annoying, right? Not only did Blizzard change our way of playing this game through the rewards track and having to obtain enormous amounts of XP via grinding out games. They also changed our way of pack openings which occurred mostly at the start of each new expansion for the majority of players.

I do not want to sound like the Doomsayer here, but he was right: "The end is coming!" 😄

It really helps that the dailies can now be concede at start & get credit towards daily. No way that I'm playing any matches before my morning cup of coffee!

The rewards track update also splits each 50+ level into 3 parts. This means that the influx of 37000 XP which in the old track would move me to level 60 instantly will move me 3 times that in the new track, so I will be close to level 80 if not on level 80 itself after the update.

Please note that there will be a total of 350 levels after the rewards track update today instead of the previous limit of 150 levels. The total amount of XP required level 50 onwards did not change though.

I really wonder if this new concede behavior was intentional or not. In the past, a message would popup that there were too few turns played to gain quest progress. Thus, I would not be surprised that this will be reverted in a future update. I would be disappointed though, because it would also mean more time lost completing these silly daily quests.

Currently, they might as well add the daily quest XP towards our XP progress simply for logging in.

With yesterdays Weeklies and todays Daily I´m  LVL 44 and half (3060/7800) right now. I´m leaving it here just for my self report to see how much will I gain after the patch goes live. Will edit later on.

EDIT: So after logging in I jumped 3 levels straight to LVL 47 (3760/5000). Can´t complain I guess :)

But even then 37000 exp should jump you 18 levels, assuming it's now 2000 exp post level 50.

Share your level after the update :)

Well... Absolutely nothing changed for me. I'm still level 34. The exp requirement for the next level dropped like... 800 points. And that's it. I already closed the client and logged in again to see if it was a visual glitch or something but that's not the case. So... yeah. Can't say i'm happy.

Nothing to worry about, the way they implemented this is that the 37000 XP reduction occurs at the end portion of the reward track around level 50. This just means you were not within that striking distance yet to notice the XP reduction update to instantly jump a few levels up. Keep a close eye out on the matter though, it would not be the first time a patch was released that was buggy.

Turns out the update matters mostly for the end portion of the track. Only those that have advanced a lot will feel any substantial difference. The changes are very small for the people lagging behind. So, they are mostly rewarding the people that are playing more. Their whole idea is to make it so people have to sink more time into the game if they want to be rewarded. Fair enough. I have other games to play so i'm not putting much time into it. That's not going to change.

Looks like levels 40-50 (?) there are all for 5000 XP, since I can confirm that LVL 47 and LVL 48 have the same amount of XP, as MisterFerro above said.

Actually this is not true, they reduced the XP needed for levels 40+ from 5000-9000 to 5000 each level. Which is OK change.

Can people who have the new patch post their levels and the XP needed, so we can build a chart of the new level progression structure?

I'm 100% sure that a new blog post with this infoon (datamined) will be added within 24 hours on this very site 😋

Just be patient and enjoy the updated game in the meantime.

Still no updated rewards track info on this site, I guess my expectations were a bit too high or the crew is too busy.

Got to 47 earlier, and am aiming to reach 50 just before Christmas (the daily and weekly quests would leave me about half way through 49 on Christmas Eve, which I know will bug me on Christmas if I don't grind up the difference beforehand).

As of today, I reached level 100. At the current rate of gaining 20 levels each week, I should be able to attain level 350 at the very end of this expansion cycle.

Also, since choosing Nightslayer Valeera I have been playing Rogue a bit more. Really liking this sweet new hero portrait.

    How is your progression going?

I'm almost at level 39. Things still seem incredibly slow. I'm only playing Battlegrounds (ranked is in a horrific state again). I dedicate around two hours at most. After each game i gain a little over 100 exp (bless the Deck Tracker for the new exp bar) and each game can take over 20 minutes. Seems to be mildly within their stated exp per hour range. But, without quests, it just feels like i'm simply not getting anywhere in this system. Playing simply doesn't feel rewarding at all. The 10 gold per 3 wins would help alleviate those feelings a lot. It doesn't help when games are over extremely quickly and you lose by taking 20+ damage from someone who just got all the luck. If i go to the ladder, i'll get run over by some Evolve Shaman or DH. I'm simply not having enough fun playing this game anymore. And if i stop playing, i'll fall behind indefinitely. I'm feeling trapped.

I feel ya man, the current reward track implementation changed the way I play and also increased the amount of time I invest in Hearthstone. I doubt this behavior change is justified and whether it's a good thing at all.

Ranked ladder sucks at the moment (standard and wild), so I have been playing battlegrounds a lot. I don't particularly like the randomness (treasures and buckets) of duels and arena (which I never liked) already died a long time ago. I'm seriously considering to only play battlegrounds per next expansion/rotation, which is a lot cheaper than to continue playing all modes of this rather expensive game.

By the way, once you pass level 50 the levelling up experience feels slightly less worse since each level only takes approximately 1500 XP. With the daily quest XP and playing a few games here and there, gaining 1 level each day should be easily achievable. However, to complete the entire reward track we need to gain multiple levels each day though.

Good luck and try to keep having fun! 👍🏻

Minor update, I just reached level 125 (by playing a few hours daily). I should be still on track to complete the entire reward track before the year of the phoenix ends.

How many of you have gotten the Challenge a friend. You both earn a reward! 1500 XP quest already? I have several F2P accounts and still no sight of this particular quest. I'm probably biased, but I have a gut feeling the drop rate of this quest is much lower than the others.

It was always quite rare. That might just be down to it being a unique quest in a large pool with a lot of similar looking quests that only feel common because you group them together. E.g. the 'Play 3 games class X, Y or Z' quests come up all the time, but how many times have you seen "Play 3 games with Hunter, Mage and Warlock' specifically? (I know those quests actually are down-weighted, but only by so much that we occasionally see other ones.)

Still, with a pool of 66 daily quests (datamined) and me having multiple accounts which means a total of approximately 250+ possible rerolls, one might think a single appearance would be likely to have happened already at least once for me.

Of course, always getting lower XP daily quests from the higher XP quests does not help either. Their excuse for this implementation of receiving easier quests is simply ridiculous. It is obviously meant to reduce the chances for getting the more unique daily quests.

A quick test: assuming 66 equally weighted quests and 250 attempts to find a single one, the probability of not seeing it once is (1-(1/66))^250 = 2.2%. That is indeed unlikely.

250 attempts sounds like a really high estimate though. We've has the system since the 12th of November, so ~38 days. Let's be generous and call it 40 since we had 3 dailies on day 1. If you have 3 accounts, that's a max of 3*2*40 = 240 quests seen, though I doubt you have been rerolling all of them. If you reroll half of the time, that gives 180 instead. That doesn't stop it being unlikely (you end up at 6.4%), but it's helpful to be precise when making these sorts of arguments.

As for whether their their justification of making high XP quests reroll into low XP quests is ridiculous (does it still do this? I haven't tested since the new system arrived), I kind of agree with them on this to be honest. It's easy for players who play a lot to forget that many players don't devote much time to the game and might just want to be able to clear a quest asap. In fact it is generally quite easy to forget many players think differently to you, even when you're playing against Big Priest and asking your screen "who even likes that deck?!" :P

I actually have 5 accounts, of which 1 is my main account. The single purpose of all the other accounts are just for getting me the extra challenge a friend quests and always get rerolled otherwise. Thus, the rough estimate I mentioned earlier is a real weighted amount, although indeed a bit on the higher side coz my main account does not care about these rerolls that much. 200 rerolls should be a better estimate, my bad. I must admit that with such a low occurrence probability, I wonder if having this many dummy accounts even warrants the daily quadruple logins.

Btw, I have been keeping a spreadsheet with quest occurrences and before the reward track got introduced, the other F2P accounts would net me 40 times the 80 gold quest each year (32 free packs). So, this means each account would give me about 65 gold each month. My prelimary conclusion is that they must have lowered the probability even further.

With 4 accounts dedicated to farming the Challenge a Friend quest, and level 125 already, you are certainly a pro at gathering gold.

I recall you have an impressive stockpile of dust too, and that you dislike spending it "in a significant way". Have you tried spending it on something practically useless like maintaining a few swag-tastic, all-golden decks? That's how I keep my dust reserves from climbing too quickly. Valeera's been burgling, pirating and one-upping High Justice Grimstone for years!

I haven't found a good reason to spend my stockpile of dust yet. I also have a decent "fear" to craft any missing epics or legendaries because I might still open them from future special bundle packs. I even do not dust my duplicate commons and uncommons in case Team5 might decide to nerf them for some reason and I might get the most dust refund from them. I know this sounds very unhealthy, but I guess it's a typical case of FOMO.

As for being a pro of farming gold... I'm using this expansion to gather the most personal statistics to see how I should be spending my time playing HS in the future. I highly doubt I will be spending this much time after rotation hits next year. Also, I have set myself a personal artificial goal to complete the entire reward track to see whether I can achieve it or not.

My current takeaway/opinion about the reward track is that it diminishes winning and rewards time spent in HS. It is a double edged sword though, coz I'm still undecided whether I should consider this a positive or negative aspect.

I'm currently at level 43, which is not bad considering I take days off at a time. I mostly play on Mondays and Tuesdays now so I can do finish the daily and weekly quests in one go. Capping the XP at 5,000 per level from level 37 is great, it doesn't feel as daunting to overcome.

I have 7,670 gold so far, I still don't know what to spend it on (maybe more packs, or for the next expansion). I'm sitting at 10,000 dust too, which is what's left after I crafted Reno Jackson and Kazakus from the dust from my golden Dinotamer Brann. Time to take Wild seriously.

Reached level 40 over the holidays which made me confident things aren't as bad as they've looked like when the new system came out (not counting the mid expansion card release, that might become a problem gold-wise).

I'm starting to wonder which skin I should pick. I get most people here have taken Valeera. Are you happy with your choice?

I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

Yes, since picking up Valeera I have played a lot more rogue which was one of my least favorite classes. Of all the 10 choices, it was clearly the prettiest of them all, no regrets and super happy 😁

No regrets here picking the Valeera skin. I am enjoying playing combo rogue in standard in the Diamond 5-3 range as I grind for 500 wins on Rogue.

I hit level 43 today. I'm not putting any effort into grinding. I'm deliberately re-rolling the 1000 exp quests into 900 ones because they are easy to complete and can be done in Battlegrounds. I skipped the 2500 exp quest from last week because i don't want to play ranked. I'm totally tired of the game and i'm playing only the bare minimum required. The fact that i got around 6 levels in a week (around 30000 exp) while playing like this probably means that the system got a lot faster, overall.

Well yes, I have Tavern pass, do all my quests and play Duels daily for the XP achievements. They help a lot too (the Greybough one is killing me as I don´t own the legendary and need to pick Druid, get it in my buckets AND get to play him and resummon, if I´m lucky enough not to have him hexed or polymorfed. Takes ages so maybe that´s where my XP are comming from :D)

I feel your pain. I've done quite many achievements that way, now only missing these "get this exact card in buckets, draw it and so on". I think my Greyboughs are at 23 now, but I'm not going to exhaust myself and try to get...200, was it? I do fully intend to force the ETC achievement though, Blizzard give me the damn buckets where he is included.

On topic, I'm currently just beyond lvl 60 (got 61 or 62 this morning).

I´m currently 155/200 with the Greybough so I´m gonna finish it just for the sake of it. Best thing to force ETC is to put every rush minion in your starting deck, that way I could get even two ETCs from time to time, that´s the quickiest way. Too bad there is no way to force Il´gynoth or High Exarch Yrel, that´s the only two achievements I can´t complete without owning them :/

I've finally hit level 50 and I'm debating on who to chose for my reward.

I mean, Burgle Rogue to the rescue?:D

Good one, all that´s left is to find someone who´s actually playing them on ladder :D

(would hit you with a snowball for this, if I had any left :P)

No need to find anyone, that's priest's schtick. Burgle rogue just generates them out of 'thin air'. Dragon's Hoard is your best friend here, although it will take quite a while to find specific legendaries enough times to finish the achievements.

Oh, didn´t think of that. I think it´s obvious I don´t play Rogue.. at all :P But will deff try this, thanks!

(I owe you a snowball for this too :D)

ON TOPIC: I´ve just hit lvl 100 with paid track. So it took me a week from lvl 80 to 100 (quests along with XP achievements).

I just reached level 160, still 190 levels (or 9500 gold) to go. Meta feels really stale now, I doubt the nerfs will change very much.

Hopefully, the mini set arrives soon, so we can calculate how many packs should be opened to collect at least all the epics, rares and commons.

How are you progressing on the reward track?

I'm at level 100, halfway to 101 as of today. I like the fact that I can get a level or two a day with the daily and a little bit (or more, for two) of play time.

Same here, but I still wonder if the old system of 3 wins rewarding 10 gold is better or worse. What do you think?

I don't know which is better - my gut says that 10 gold for three wins probably felt better because winning felt like it mattered then. I do know that the current rewards track feels better than the first iteration did, and I feel like I will have a good deal of gold to show for my efforts by the end of the expansion. I'm a paying player (I buy most bundles), but I like to supplement with gold-bought packs at the beginning of an expansion too.

From a F2P point of view, so comparing cost to achievable gold (again considering I am F2P - meaning casual), the new system is no better. At best, it is the same. They could have done absolutely nothing, and I'd still be in the same place. I'm sure they've captured a load of people who suddenly feel like it is worth spending more money, but for me it is actually a little bit more boring than before. Their *really big thing* was "a sense of achievement". Meh.

Considering how bad it was to start with, when they first said that it was great, but actually shafted players, it really shows how money grabbing they are.

I'm level 41 at the moment. Vaguely looking forward to the level 50 hero avatar thing. Hoping they are going to take away all the clicks needed to navigate around.

Another minor OCD issue I have is that my gold total ends with a '5'. Except for Arena (which I dislike), there are no other modes that reward '5' gold. I only create an Arena deck per rotation to get a free pack and refund tavern ticket.

This problem is also relevant for my total dust count 😅

AFAIK you can get +5 gold in Heroic Duels aswell, maybe you can try that with your free ticket (if you have any left).

Yeah, the reason you have to go and claim the rewards, similar with Achievements, is probably to "feel" the accomplishment. I think, at least for Rewards Track rewards, would be a good idea to just get the pop-up right after you earn it, not needing to go to the special screen and pick it up manually. Same as you got 10 gold for 3 wins in the old system, right after the game.

I reached level 50 and took the Nightslayer Valeera portrait. I'm playing a lot of Stealth Rogue at legend right now, it's doing pretty well, and this new skin makes the experience even more satisfying. Valeera just looks fire!

I hope they make the hero skins available again next expansion cycle, I'm planning on taking Gul'dan next. Or hopefully they introduce more portraits for us to choose from, I'm not really fond of the cartoonish styles of the current level 50 portraits.

Time to farm for as much gold as I can so I can do away with spending real money on this game!

I play a lot of alt characters, who on the old system pretty much did their daily quests and nothing else.

A few of those alts only play till they get their 5 wins per month also.

The new system I have a few alts that have played ALL weeklies and dailies every week.

I have not payed for the pass on any of these characters:

My most advanced character (my main basically) is at 42

My least played is at about 27 and the others are somewhere in between, mostly in the 30's somewhere.

generally I'd find that the lesser played one's would do all of the dailies and about half the weeklies, that is it would take 2 weeks to complete the weeklies.

Another week has gone and I´ve hit lvl 120. Looks like I can do 20 lvls a week with the weeklies, dailies and gameplay, which is quite cool imo.

How are ya´ll doing so far?

I'm currently at level 185, which according to my own spreadsheet is at about 59,1% of the whole reward track. Gaining 20 levels each week also applies to my own progress.

I should be still on track to complete the whole damn thing, assuming that the mid-expansion mini-set is located exactly at the 50% mark (which is going to be launched later this week alledgedly).

Btw, I was just wondering how you are going to obtain this mini-set; using either 2000 gold, spending real money ($15) or just by opening MDF packs.

I am nearly done with level 127. Progress is 1-2 levels a day, except for Monday/Tuesday when the weekly quests provide a boost to XP. I will use gold or cash for the mini set once the details are confirmed (wondering how they haven’t announced it formally yet?!!).

I had hoarded some packs from DMF, but it seems like buying the bundle is most efficient.

I guess I've misjudged how slow this is going when holidays are over. I'm sitting at 48 right now and I'm not sure if I'll make it to 50 this week, but I'm really looking forward to leveling up faster after that. I'm on the ftp track btw (I'm kind of a dolphin, but I wanted to see how this works out before spending money on it, especially since the Hero skins didn't appeal very much to me).

Not sure what to do about the mini expansion yet. I'm sitting on 15 packs I've saved up and about 5.000 gold. I'll definitely get that 15€/2.000 gold bundle if it proves to be real but don't know which of the two options I'll take. It's just insane value.

I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

How are you progressing on the reward track?

I'm almost level 80 and only have 6500 gold.

Under the old rewards system I would have about 8000 gold by now and I'm playing the same amount.

FTP is no more...unless you are ok with only opening 1/3 less packs for the same efforts.

Might as well document mine here for comparison next expansion.

I'm just a casual player and usually end up with about 2k gold before an expansion launch. Right now I have 3300. Which I wonder is me buying less packs to save up for the mini set or the achievements pushing extra Xp I didn't have before.

Free to play track at lvl 62 as of 1/18. (hit 50 about 1/10)

I didn't buy the paid track as skins didn't appeal to me. Don't get me wrong I like cosmetics but the level 50 one was enough to satisfy me. Surprised I got it this early I would have guessed it would be closer to feb. I'm enjoying the system overall. Yes there are still things to fix but they are moving in the right direction. Slowly but how else does Blizzard move but slow and deliberate! Ha.

I’ve been more or less just popping in and out and completing my daily/weekly quests every week, and I’m only at level 48 right now. Definitely feel like I’m getting less rewards for doing the same amount of work

I finally reached level 50 last night. I'm looking forward to rapidly gaining levels. I've been making achievement decks, and my win rate for this season is currently 30% because you don't get credit in casual mode.

I've been trying to use my druid deck for both summoning Greybough, and the Yogg-Saron achievements. That might have been a bad idea, since I don't have a lot of minions, and mostly rely on duplicating Greybough with Faceless and Germination. If I don't lose before playing Greybough, it gets destroyed before I can duplicate it. I'm going to stop trying for achievements until next season so I have some hope of finishing in diamond league.

Reached 49 today and still haven't decided what portrait to choose. I really like Garrosh but doesn't play Warrior much. Not a fan of Thrall (my favorite class) but he might grow on me? Might go with Rexxar...

I've also come to the conclusion that the rewards track actually feels pretty good. I haven't done the math and compared to before but I'm pretty happy with the gold I've gained. For the record I don't have much time to play and haven't bought the tavern pass.

Finally made it to 50 yesterday and took a long look at the portraits. Long story short, I took Paladin because I intend to play lots of Pure Paladin for the rest of the season and the portrait features Uther's book quite prominently which makes for nice flavor with the librams. I know that's a stupid reason to pick the portrait but I couldn't come up with a better one.

So, so happy to make faster progress with the rewards now. I'll consider buying the pass next season.

I hit level 50 today after weeks of playing suboptimally. The new cards helped a lot because it gave me a new spark of inspiration and i went to ladder after a long time. I took the Mage portrait as i enjoy playing the class and i don't have any for this class in particular. The required experience after level 50 drops a lot and i started earning some gold regularly which feels quite good.

I just reached level 200, which means 150 remaining levels (and 7500 gold) left to go until the finish line.

I spent 2000 gold to buy the mini set which was a decent deal. Let's hope they will keep this deal for future mini sets. It's also good that some more XP quests were added which helps out the levelling up a bit extra. Their dumb requirements are messing up my legend rank considerably though, but that's of less importance now.

What's your current progression? Do you like the mini set?

Got to 50 yesterday, just as a few of you other guys. I ended up with Garrosh of Might, so I really hope there will be a Warrior deck I enjoy and can afford after rotation. :

I just got to 104. The mini-set and new achievements have motivated me to be playing more again, so I have been speeding through the last few levels (I honestly don't even remember getting levels 100-103).

I used packs I had hoarded to get the mini-set, which went super well as I had all 4 of the new legendaries by the end of them, and the coolest 2 in shiny gold (I crafted golden Ivory before opening, but the golden Rustwix was out of the kindness of RNGesus). So that was 2000 gold saved!

I'm hoping the Rustwix warlock that is common at Diamond 5 will disappear soon so I can play him myself without feeling dirty about it. In the meantime I'm messing around with the achievements no one else at Diamond 5 seems to care about.

I completed the new Warlock XP quest in no time with this Rustwix Warlock "Optimal Primes" deck 🤖

Highly recommended! I will probably pilot it some more after finishing the other XP quests.

Yeah, that one is hilarious. Only had one game, but that was a 20 minutes monster of a match against a Control Priest that went deep into fatigue. I've played 14 Primes although my opponent Plague of Deathed at least 3 Rustwixes. Wasn't even bad to lose lol.

I'm halfway through level 147. Still averaging 1-2 levels a day, and enjoying this period of experimentation on the ladder. I made Wild Legend earlier  in the month and have been hovering between Diamond 2-4 since the expansion dropped, so I don't mind playing suboptimal decks as I grind the new XP achievements before next month.

I'm at level 115, I don't play that much except for weekends and I haven't investigated exp quests or the special achieves that give exp. That sounds like playing parts of the game that don't interest me.

So after two more weeks I went up from lvl 120 to lvl 150. Progression slowed a bit (did 20 lvls a week before), but it´s mostly due no more extra XP from achievements (did all old Darkmoon ones, only few from mini-exp left). Friend quests help a lot too, but missed 3000 XP (I have Tavern Pass) from one weeklie by my mistake :/

I hit level 231 yesterday; finished all the mini-set XP quest achievements and finally got a few of those sweet challenge friend requests.

Gold income is more than in the past, but playtime is also doubled. Precise math aside, I think gold income is relatively about equal or perhaps even slightly worse than before (extrapolated against total time spent playing HS).

What does feel really bad is that after opening 280 packs and crafting 1 or 2 legendaries myself, I'm still missing 3 of them. I need Maxima Blastenheimer in order to complete 1 of the 2 remaining regular XP quest achievements. Dealing lethal damage with Oh My Yogg! is really out of my hands, so I will not intentionally hunt this achievement down.

Looking forward to complete the remainder of the rewards track in the upcoming 6 weeks. Not sure what the plan will be during the period before the next expansion hits. Should the upper limit of 350 levels be removed from the rewards track? What do you think?

Wow, you are really grinding! Thanks for noting that you are earning more gold, but ALSO playing a lot more too. I am in the same camp - I hit level 173 last night and have completed all of the ranked XP achievements except C'thun lethal and the Oh My Yogg! one. Have not done much in duels, my best run is/was 6 wins.

I know that I will have saved more gold this expansion than any previous (even accounting for the 500 gold from Blizzard as their mea culpa for the rewards track mess). I don't expect to reach level 350 by the rotation, but I am probably playing more on average right now. I actually got my first complete set (Darkmoon Faire) with the two variable bundles that were offered last week. I am really close to a full set on Scholomance - duplicate protection has been huge!

No, I think that limit is fine. You play way more than it is healthy

Edit: I hit level 128 today and I feel I play a lot. Many players hit level 50 these days.

I hit level 67 today. Despite the initial hype, i didn't feel inclined to play ranked more than a few times after the launch of the mini-set. As such, i ended up only in Silver at the end of the last season. I'm completely burnt out of playing constructed, it seems. I returned to my suboptimal ways of playing and i'm only playing BGs while re-rolling any quest that can't be completed there. Less exp means less progress. Also, i'm not really bothering with the 2500 exp weekly one or any achievements. I hit level 50 around 10 days ago so i got 17 levels in this period. If i keep this pace then i might be able to hit around level 100 or so in less than a month. My gold is currently sitting at 5050. That is a fine value but i should be able to get way more. The track seems to be in a good state now.

After another two weeks, here is my self report: Went from 150 to 180, so now the 15 lvls a week applies to me (did 20 lvls a week before with extra achievements XP). Next time I should be over 200, which is quite nice. Gold wise I´m at 15K now (had around 4K saved before the track and I´ve only spend 2K on mini expansion). My usual amount of gold was 8K at the start of new expansion so this feels so much better for me by far.

    How´s  your progression going ya´ll?

    EDIT: I´ve bought the pass.

I'm at level 88 now, with two weeklies still unfinished. I have also recently switched focus to achievements and try to squeeze in the relevant cards in my good decks, as well as making "achievement only" decks.

I just entered level 217 last night after finishing my last weekly quest. I have almost 14,600 gold saved, which is definitely a new record for me for a single expansion. That includes the gift of 500 gold from Blizzard that we got after their revision to the rewards track.

Given that the next expansion won't be here until mid-late March or even April, I know I will have a lot more gold saved by that point. Even when you factor in the 20% XP boost I have enjoyed with the Tavern Pass, I am still exceeding my previous expansion hauls - so it has been "worth it" from that perspective (and will continue to be so for me).

I have spent large portions of the expansion achievement hunting - a week or two ago I finished the Darkmoon Races ones (which were mercifully easy) and I finally got the C'thun "kill your opponent from full health" one around the same time. The only XP granting achievement that I don't have from DMF is the Oh My Yogg! one, and I am not going to bother with that!

169 with no pass purchased. I have one daily and one weekly still so it'll be 171 once I finish those. I've been holding steady at 3500 gold or more despite my many Heroic Duels entries so it feels like more than the normal gold saved from one expac to the next, especially since my average there is under 5 (vs 5.5-6 in Arena during past expacs).

Let me just say that I hate, hate, hate the Not So Lonely achievement (end your turn with a Redeemed Pariah with 10 attack or higher in play). 8/10 on that one and it's brutally stupid. They don't last until the next turn so you literally have to play the pariah plus 8 outcast cards on the same turn. Not well designed, especially since you must run all the small cost outcast cards and then proceed to sit on them turn after turn to build your hand big enough.

Now you kids are probably saying to yourselves, "Hey Matt, how can we get back on the right track?"

    No Pass

    lvl 109

    3200 gold

Track really feels good.  I usually end an expansion at 2k gold. I'm over 3k and bought the mini-set with gold. So I have more gold than before, I have at least 1 new skin (lvl50), and have more legendaries than normal thanks to the mini-set. I didn't change my play or hunt achievements. Definitely enjoying it. Depending on the skins next set I may buy the pass.

If you have Arch-Thief Rafaam, you can just cast the +10/+10 treasure on the Pariah. All you need is a mana discount somewhere and you're good to go. It's against the spirit of the achievement but it's better than getting too frustrated over it.

Just reached Lvl 150 and I am around 7.2k gold right now. Still a new record for gold grinded. Even after purchasing the miniset because I could not let that deal pass. Been playing a little more this week because of a personal goal. But that did not make that much of a difference. Maybe I would be at 6.9k gold without that extra time. Also this extra playtime is finishing tomorrow if I am able to achive my goal as intended.

I am also hoarding my extra classsic packs because reasons. I might have saved a bit more if I did not, (I am too much of a collector so I only dust copies that wont be used. Will still keep a regular and a golden copy of the same legendary no problem) wich caused me to open some more packs than expected for a final craft.

Pretty much still satisfied with my results.

Edit: Also still lots of Achivement xp I could get if I tried harded, might get some more in 2 days)

This or you can buff your Redeemed Pariah with any temporary buff cards to 10 attack and concede on your turn. It will count the achievement, because you ended the turn, when the buffs were still active. This worked for me.

I was lucky and encountered an AFK bot (or something) on ladder, that let me buff up the dude without any counterplay. So happy to get that achievement out of the way!

I'm currently sitting @ level 115 on the rewards track with 7,300 gold. That's the most gold I have ever held @ once.

Did anyone reach lv.350 yet? I never seen one so far. But if it's true, is that mean they're no longer getting any gold whatsoever?

EDIT. Mine is 157 (No Bonus pass), expecting to reach 200 if I keep playing like I did by 23rd March.

Despite not putting in much time into HS lately, and some „spending-sprees", I'm at about 1.3k, only 700 away from my usual goal. Lvl is 105.

I expect that I'd be benefiting from the new system (am probably one of only 5 people that thought so), but this turned out better for me than I guessed!

I mean they capped it, there does not need to be any science done, unless they goofed and did not cap it in fact :) In any case, only a small % of players will reach that regardless imho. Not saying you should be "punished" for playing a lot, the % who do reach it will surely serve as a feedback metric for future adjustment.

I read in the official Blizzard Hearthstone forum that some people already reached it and there is nothing afterwards. Apparently, no more incentive whatsoever to continue playing since no more XP is rewarded.

I'm currently at level 328 and will reach the end in about 7 more days. Not really looking forward to it anymore nor will I try to repeat the same feat after the rotation hits unless there will be extra rewards involved (which I doubt).

If you already reach max level, it's because the tavern pass exp bonus. Maybe if you didn't bought it (or don't care about cosmetics), you're still in the ~300. A good idea for the next expansion to not buy it, and you'll save a bit of money, and it's still feel good to get gold while playing like you did now.

As for cosmetics, I am an avid collector and I decided in the past I should "own" all the hero portraits. Since they are part of the tavern pass I will still purchase it for the upcoming expansion. The recent trend of increasing amount of collectible hero portraits does make me wonder if I will be able to keep up and if their monetary value is still worth it to me.

Iksar mentioned there will be some reward track improvements incoming, so I also wonder what those will be exactly. We will see those in a few weeks time.

By the way, this unhealthy collector addiction of mine is also applicable to other things like the Out of Cards currencies. For instance, I really felt the urge of collecting the daily limit of snowflakes during the snowpocalypse event and whenever there were snowstorms that feeling was further emphasized. Also, whenever there is a huge influx of new things to collect I always wonder if that is the moment to stop finally or continue with collecting that stuff.

Here´s my usual report after two weeks: got up from 200 to 230 (back to 15 lvls a week), finished all XP achievements (except for 12/0  Duels run), TP bought. Should be able to hit lvl 250 till the new expansion, after that I´ll save my quests for the new Rewards Track.

@NebuchadnezzarHS where you´re at? Did you manage to finish the track yet?

Despite only coming back to the game at the start of February I'm actually currently set up to reach lvl 50 before the expansion hits (as of today I'm at lvl 43 and I'll get weekly quests two more times, which should theoretically allow me to get to 50 just in time to snag that free hero portrait).

I guess tryharding to reach legend while also leveling up Demon Hunter has its perks

    I tried having fun once.

    It was awful.

I'm currently at level 346 right now and with minimal effort should reach the end of the reward track within 2 days. I will write a small post when this milestone has been achieved. If my F2P accounts get the 1800 XP challenge friend quest it will be even sooner.

Going off-topic again, I'm still wondering if I should keep investing in this game. Never ever has it taken this long for me to buy the preorder bundles, happens usually within 24 hours of becoming available. There is plenty of time to buy them though. By the way, it is not even the monetary value that is bothering me. I have a decently paid job and the money I spent on HS is not relevant at all.

Well, first, it's weird to call it an investment. Any money you sink into Hearthstone would more accurately be classified as an expenditure.

Like you, I used to buy the preorders immediately, but more recently I wait until I've seen a reasonable number of cards from the set (many more than we've seen of Barrens so far). That doesn't mean I'm not interested or am any less likely to pre-purchase -- the sheer value of the offers is too good to pass up, and I know I'll have to spend a LOT more if I try to catch up later.

But if you've maxed out the reward track, you are sitting on a mountain of gold, so maybe you simply don't need to spend any cash at all. I don't know if you try to "collect 'em all" they way I do, but if not, I suspect you will be able to get by just fine on the gold. Maybe you just get the reward pass for cosmetics and the XP boost, and that's good enough.

I guess the question is: How much do you want that Hamuul Runetotem portrait? If I had your gold and didn't care about the portrait, i would not buy.

Since the introduction of the reward track and there being a limit to it (level 350) I somehow succeeded to trick myself into thinking I have to finish it. In the past, I could not care less of earning the maximum amount of 100 gold by winning 30 matches per day.

The biggest drawback of the reward track is that MUCH more time is required to reach the same amount of gold. I'm not even exaggerating if I would say that that time expenditure is at least doubled or perhaps more.

As for potentially skipping on the pre-orders, you are right about catching up would be more difficult later on. I think the Fear Of Missing Out feeling has become a real issue for me.

If I would skip the latest druid hero portrait, it would be the very first limited available one I would not own. That's a seemingly more difficult decision to make. I actually don't think the art is particularly beautiful, but it's FOMO all over again.

IMO, my stash of gold is not super high nor low. I will end up with 16585 gold tomorrow without the possibility to earn more gold before the new reward track starts with the next expansion. In the past, I would spend all the gold on expansion launch day and start accumulating gold from scratch once more. Rinse and repeat with every single expansion.

According to my spreadsheet with data collected from the past 6 years of me playing Hearthstone, I usually open 110 packs with gold on average. With the mini-set being a regular thing now, I have to set aside another 2000 gold because I see no incentive to spend real money on that. Thus, along with the pre-orders and freebies I open about 300 packs each expansion in total and that still is not enough to get me a complete set even with the legendary and epic duplicates protection.

With the information above, I should be able to accurately calculate which reward track level I have to reach everytime to not go down gold wise. I'm too tired right now to do the exact math though. Maybe next time.

Playing Hearthstone almost feels like a chore these days which is not a good feeling at all and I only have myself to blame for it. I just hope the FOMO feeling has not already silently turned into a Sunken Cost Fallacy for me.

On-topic again; I reached level 348… so close, but no cigar yet!

I would say that's accurate. Do you keep spreadsheets of all your leisure activities? For someone who can afford to spend cash, the inclination to maximize gold is probably not super-healthy. That aspect of the game is literally designed to feel like a chore. It's much more fun to focus on enjoying the game itself and accept whatever gold you get as a nice bonus, not something you are obligated to earn.

Do you keep all your golden cards? That's another trap they've intentionally set for people like you. I feel like you could easily have full collections if you used the dust from golden cards to fill in the gaps. I know I've completed expansions without buying nearly as many packs as you say you have. If keeping golden cards is important to you, that's fine, but it's definitely a self-inflicted wound.

I have an enormous mountain of convertible arcane dust lying around which can be used to complete my entire Standard + Wild collections and afterwards I would still have plenty of arcane dust to spare. However, my brain is currently wired to not spend it freely.

I only craft the best missing must have legendaries of the new set after having already opened my average of 300 packs per expansion. As for missing cards from my Wild collection, I might still get them by opening packs from Wild promotion bundles.

Another FOMO thing, because by dusting duplicates which might get nerfed in the future means I would potentially miss out on the maximum dust refund of those nerfed cards. This of course also applies to my golden cards which I only dust for full refunds.

As for keeping a spreadsheet for Hearthstone… it's initial purpose was to keep track of all my class levels and amount of wins because there was no nice in-game accessible report for this in the past. Gradually, I kept track of my dust, how many packs I opened and which quests were offered to me. For instance, I wanted to know how often the challenge a friend quest was offered to me per rotation. More and more stuff got added to this spreadsheet over the past few years. I really enjoy having statistics to look at, so that part should not be very detrimental to my state of mind (I think).

I know exactly what the problem is (me), but I'm not willing to really acknowledge it nor take proper healthy actions. It's crazy and I know (sadly). One of the solutions is to simply stop playing HS which would be a similar measure I have taken in the past for other games. For now, I have trapped myself inside a self-fullfilling prophesized feedback loop. I can only hope that the rotation brings plenty of improvements.

For reward track progress, I originally thought I’d g get around 140, I’m currently 162.  I of course didn’t factor in achievement xp, nor did I include a proper calculation of the time played xp.

I didn’t buy the battle pass either.  I wanted to go through the first expansion without it to see if I felt it was needed.  And I don’t really think it is.  Yes, I’d have even more gold, and the portraits, but ultimately I am finding that with how much I play, a pre-order plus gold is enough.  I even managed to get the whole mini-set off just reward packs I got post Darkmoon launch and my unclaimed lvl 25 reward.  That was a bit lucky in my openings, but hey... that’s gold I now get to carryover in case I need it for the next mini set.  Or if I want to fill some gaps in my Wild collection.

Overall, as we near the end of this cycle I’m happy with the current state of the rewards track as I’m already 2000+ more gold than I might have earned in a previous expansion cycle without any noticeable change in my play time.  And if they continue to improve it over time as they said they will, it’ll only get better, right?

Quick!  Someone give me something clever to write here.

Well, I finally reached the pinnacle of the rewards track: Level 350. Job's done!

    Q: "What did it cost?"

    A: "EVERYTHING!"

Good lord, I don't think its even possible to game so hard, especially on a game like hearthstone. And with a real job too.

Congrats. How many hours you play everyday you monster?

    Thanks!

Lost count, so let's just say way too much for my liking and I honestly have no desire whatsoever to repeat this feat.

By the way, me getting the 0 XP earned notification now after each game played is both liberating and feels bad man 😂
