Dust a Golden Hunter Quest for ...

Submitted 5 years, 4 months ago by

I received the golden Hunter Quest and because I hate aggro and hunter, I don't plan on using it.

How are Zephrys and Siamat working out? They're the big two on my want list that I'm curious about, but I'm holding back for a few more days, as Paladin Quest potential shenanigans have my curiosity.

That’s probably entirely dependent on whether you plan to run a highlander deck. Zephrys is probably more fun; Siamat is more flexible and can fit into a wider range of decks.

If you insist on Zephrys, one thing I’d recommend is not dropping him early. I see a lot of people playing him on turn 3, when there isn’t much of a board state for the AI to analyze, and you’re unlikely to get anything that will really swing the game. Moreover, playing him so soon signals to your opponent early that you’re running a highlander deck; if you have a perfect counter spell somewhere in your deck, once you burn it, your opponent knows you only have one copy.

I feel like the last paragraph was me arguing myself into advocating for Siamat.

Zephrys is absolute amazing and a win condition per se in highlander decks. imo is the best card in the new set, but is also restricted to that deck format. Siamat flexibility is also amazing and a great card in mid/control decks.  And more important both are neutral cards, so you can use them in more types of decks. If you have the dust, craft both, but if you are restricted on dust, just wait to the meta sttabilize.

This. But I advocate for Zephrys the Great instead.

I suspect that Siamat is not as versatile as Zilliax (this is the comparison I have often read). Simply because Siamat comes 2 turns later, when it might be too late to stabilize.

So Siamat is cool, but nothing like Zephrys the Great. If anything because Siamat acts as a solid deck filler, while Zephrys is a deck enabler.

Surely if you are short on dust you should just wait.

Zephrys the Great was a day one craft for me, right after I opened all my packs.  He's absolutely amazing when his battlecry is active.  I later crafted Siamat when I wanted to build a Highlander Mage list.  He's done well in a few situations for me, but ultimately may be either more of a "win more" card, or just a way to clear two minions with Rush+Windfury and hope you get some sort of body left behind.  I really feel he's best when you can go Divine Shield+Windfury and be largely uncontested until your next turn.  But again, you're ahead on board already in that scenario so it's more of a "win more" card.  I don't regret the craft on Siamat, but I also had my free golden Octosari (aka: My free "Choose Your Own Legendary" that came with the pre-order), so I didn't technically have to spend additional dust on him.

Quick!  Someone give me something clever to write here.

I mostly play Wild, and with the larger card pool it's much easier to construct Highlander decks.  So Zephrys the Great was one of my very first crafts.  In Standard, the question is really whether you like playing Highlander decks.  If yes, Zephrys the Great; if not, Siamat.  Both cards are excellent though.

Well, I did land Sir Finley and Reno, so there's Highlander potential, plus I occasionally venture into wild. Been a while since I put Kazakus into a deck though.

Zephrys just barely cracked into my Top 10 want list at the last minute; it really hinged on two things -- landing one of the other four League of Explorer heroes (I got Reno and Sir Finley) and Bomb Warrior or Seaforium-using Quest Shaman not being too prevalent in mucking up a highlander deck. I am surprised by the lack of bombs so far, so Zephrys looks viable.

Here's the legendaries I'm missing from Uldum, in ranking of interest:

    1. Zephrys the Great

    2. Siamat

    (maybes from here)

    3. Paladin Quest

    4. Mage Quest

    5. Warlock Quest

    6. Druid Quest (this would be higher but I didn't get any epic druid cards this expansion or the last one, so it would be more crafting for a deck)

    (meh from here)

    7. Elise the Enlightened

    8. Dinotamer Brann

    9. Anka, the Buried

    10. Bazaar Burglary

Zephrys is the best pick if you want to play Highlander decks. I even play him in non highland decks that depend on heavy drawmechanics, such as Questdruid. That card is literally the strongest card in the game. (if you leave the deck restriction aside)
