It's decent stats and could see play in certain archetypes like Quest Warrior or an Aggro Beast Druid. Then again, why not just include the minion type you want? I see this guy as maybe a "budget" replacement option if you're missing a certain minion from your collection.
To clarify, since what we have both written is a bit ambiguous, tasks 16, 17 and 18 each give 1 pack. So it's 3 total per merc. Still enough that one day you'll end up rolling in packs, but precisely when you least need them :P
Yea nope, not including this card in standard. Arena is her place to shine
Flavor text is neat though: With the jungles of Un’goro mapped out and the ruins of Uldum fully uncovered, explorers have to go a little out of their depth in their search of the great unknown.
Definitely an arena card which is sad coz a card like this would've seen play in constructed a few years ago, guess times have changed, quite drastically at that.
I'm noticing the IDs in the card URLs for Xhilag and its Stalks, and I'm guessing for some reason they didn't all get imported into the database together.
I don't think anyone will be including the actual Piranha Swarmer in their decks. More like generating them off Schooling and Piranha Poacher. It's a decent rush minion that synergizes with itself, so it's not terrible, just not that great either
This is better than something like tickets because with dredge you can reliably refill your board when you need to to proc the second part. I like it honestly.
Just go hard and get malfurion. You get the coins from beating fallen guardians in felwood. Not really a challenge. Even a simple samuro/Rokara/Xyrella should easily take that boss down. Aim to get level 4 liferoot staff and cenarion surge. The rest of his abilities aren't really worth the bother.
Once you have Malfurion/Guff/Brukan, and perhaps even diablo, there's really very little that can stop you. At very least you'll finish up BRM no problem.
Oh, and you can easily grind up strangers against good ol' lord banehollow. Just reset map until youre 2 fights to a stranger. You can easily do about 10 tasks per day, around 2 hours.
Pretty cool effect! Might disrupt quite a few decks, especially if you can get creative with cards like Seance or similar copy effects if you need to clear it but don't have Whirlpool in your hand yet.
Looking at the artwork makes me think that the team spent quite a bit seeing Pirates of the Caribbean 3.
The beauty of this card is its ability to hit face. And therefore it rises from junk to worth instantaneously. But honestly, even if it couldn't, it'll likely be another Deathwing, Mad Aspect, or a one sided board clear, where its survival is secondary, but impossible to ignore if it did.
Ive seen plenty of good cards go down the drain simply because they were too expensive, but this card might actually make it because its going to be doing what you want of it fairly often, which instantly sets it aside from comparable mana slots like Rattlegore and Troublemaker, and on top of that even if your opponent simply plays nothing you can then punish them with 8 damage to the face along with an 8/9.
Ive not doubt that it'll see some play, assuming that we do go back to a board centric game again.
Feels like a druid card lol. The empty mana crystals is a good balance so at least the pop off fueled by this card will be in the later turns. Since priest has no ramp, this can't be done earlier. Or least less effective the earlier it's executed.
I think this will not see much play in a 4 set meta, but I feel this card will annoy me sometime in its 2 year stay in standard.
Well I really like that flavor for a Hydra beast, 3 heads, 3 attacks, much flavor. Definitely optimistic about this card seeing as it can go face and with Conditioning (Rank 2), that means a Pyroblast to face and removing 2 other minions.
The question though is: Will Trenchstalker survive all that damage taken? Or is it just an expensive semi boar clear?
Solid board clear, but instead of being the ultimate board wipe with Silence, it has disruption. And since this effect isn't akin to Banishing to the Void (check Dalaran Heist for what I mean), you still get to resurrect friendly minions destroyed, but you get the aforementioned hand and deck disruption.
That's nothing to be embarrassed about :) Many abilities don't really need to get past tier 3 though. It's certainly useful, but when you go from, say, 10 damage to 11 then 12, it's a fairly small difference that often won't matter much. Strategy will often be more valuable than those small upgrades, though I accept you actually need the right mercs to be able to enact a strategy.
The pack situation in Mercs is really weird and kind of backwards. When you start out you get very, very few, but eventually your mercs reach tasks 16-18 and get you 3 packs each. So it ends up being quite generous with packs, but only after you've put a lot of effort in. At least, that's what I would say if the packs themselves were at all kind. I got hit hard by the lack of a pity timer when the last batch arrived (going >50 packs between legendaries... TWICE!)
Seems like a good compromise, but I question myself: how many times have you found yourself playing Deathwing, Mad Aspect when you had other friendly minions in play?
Use orcs setup. It's pretty cheap and pretty strong. My team is Garrosh, Grommash/Thrall, Rokara, Samuro, Saurfang and Xyrella. Pick bonus to horde and have fun with 30/100 mercenaries.
"mini" Deathwing, Mad Aspect that you can run 2 copies off, AND only targets enemies. But it has less stats and costs 1 more mana. Still warrior does have acces to Provoke, so if it survives you can still kill a bunch of other minions. This seems quite decent...... Wait... wait wait wait... "three different random ENEMIES" oh... my... yogg... it can go FACE.
Alright this will see play in a lot of warrior decks as a finisher, or as the most expensive card of the deck. This will 100% see play in a more midrange warrior deck, and in control warrior because it can act as a "mini" Deathwing, Mad Aspect.
In wild it wont see any play, because it's 9 mana. And it faces competition from Deathwing, Mad Aspect.
OTK enabler for shaman which is pretty scary provided they get better token swarming spells aside from Schooling. You could get away with playing this spell on a few big minions too and just hope your opponent can't remove them. Pretty sure this spell will only really work on the turn it's played, coz I'm fairly certain your opponent will try remove as many minions as possible once they see a board full on spell damage minions.
New Neutral Minion - Amalgam of the Deep
It's decent stats and could see play in certain archetypes like Quest Warrior or an Aggro Beast Druid. Then again, why not just include the minion type you want? I see this guy as maybe a "budget" replacement option if you're missing a certain minion from your collection.
New Neutral Minion - Crushclaw Enforcer
Well this guy can tutor some scary naga like Raj Naz'jan and Priestess Valishj. So will definitely see play in some combo decks

This guy's token will be a damn nice target for dredge, and the base minion doesn't look like too bad of a rush minion either.

Well, for me personally... as soon as I can play Deathwing, Mad Aspect I play Deathwing, Mad Aspect 😅RIP my board state.
This guy on the other hand only targets enemies so there's no real drawback, other than playing a 9 mana minion
