  • Riot is Getting Rid of Legends of Runeterra's Expeditions System in May to Rethink the Draft Experience

    Quote From Nevin

That’s a damn shame. I know that the player base was turning against Expeditions, but I really loved them. It was exactly what I want from a draft mode, and what Hearthstone’s Arena failed to provide: A streamlined drafting experience that helped you make a decent deck while still giving you real choices, the ability to improve your deck throughout the run, and enough free entries to keep me coming back. I think the free entries are why you could meet players of all skill levels in Expeditions. Unlike Arena, where the only players were dedicated ones who could crush me, Expeditions had good competition among normal players.

Yea, expeditions improved upon HS's arena mode in a lot of ways. (In fact I feel like Duels is the natural evolution of HS's arena mode in some ways, sans the treasures of course.)  There is still a charm in getting random champions and trying to make them work, and getting some semblance of a deck working with what you're drafted.  It's a fun challenge, which at the end of the day was the reason I played Arena/Expeditions: For the challenge.

The rewards were just icing, the real reward was the friends we made along the way was having fun attempting to make things work with random cards.

  • New Warlock Spell - Impfestation

This is pretty situational.  If you're playing a big deck (warrior and priest have had a few coming through the ranks), then this is just awful.  But against Pirate Warrior or Beast Druid before too many buffs get there, this could be decent. But for 6 mana... there are other cards that could be better utilized all around

  • New Shaman Spell - Don't Stand in the Fire!

I really like this for the current meta.  There are a fleet of minions that are played with a low health and being able to clean sweep a lot of them with cards like this is going to be amazing.

  • New Shaman Spell - Bracing Cold

2 for 5 health is ok.  Making it Frost and there by searchable, pretty good.  Reduce the cost of a spell in your hand on top of it... WTF?!?!?

  • New Shaman Spell - Spirit Mount

The bonus to spell damage is honestly feeling like icing on the cake.  This is a pretty solid buff in a class that historically hasn't had a lot of permanent buffs

  • Can't win in Standard anymorr

The only reason to explain this, that HS Mathematics a right and HS is dying and I'm just facing pros. Noobs are gone.

There are so many things wrong with this statement, but honestly, I think my time would be wasted evaluating it for you. It is time to look at the man in the mirror.

Please don't talk about biases when you're defending your favorite mode.

Excuse me? Pot meet kettle.  You're just doing the exact opposite if you wanna go down that particularly "uncivil" method of discussion Mr. "Random Bullshit".   But since you opened that can of worms, I'm happy to fish with them.  RNG is the POINT of the entire draft mode.  So if you're getting angry at RNG in a DRAFT mode in the first place, perhaps you're in the wrong place.

You can do everything Right, and still lose.  You can also do everything WRONG, and still win.  The people who inherently do better, are the people who know how to leverage the resources given to them, even if they don't get "super overpowered legendary to carry them", there are (and HAVE BEEN) players who made 12 wins arena or 7 wins in expeditions off of cards that seemed weak considered on an individual basis, but managed to make it work.

Complaining that 150g is a "barrier to entry" seems like an odd complaint too.  Me personally I spend about 1/2 my gold per new set release on packs.  Gold is NOT hard to earn in hearthstone,  unlike early on the battlepass change has severely increased my gold income and I'm left with 10k to spare after each expansion (not including miniset releases which cost 2k).

Lastly, no-one is being "forced" to play with bad cards.  You CHOOSE to enter into arena (or duels) for that matter.  But since this is a runeterra thread...THAT ARGUMENT doesn't even apply:  Runeterra has been giving weekly expedition tokens out for free for ages.  That's a sight better than hearthstone, and doesn't cost the players ANYTHING.

So .... if the player takes their FREE weekly token (for just playing the game at all) and then goes 7-0 with it in expedition, they come out of that with a ton of rewards. And the best part of that is that you have two trials, so you get TWO CHANCES to get to 7 wins in LoR.

What exactly are you complaining about again?  Oh right *hearthstone's* version of arena.  So the only basis that your argument has a weak leg to stand on is that "arena/expeditions has RNG. RNG is bad".  K, got it.  Well I got news for you.  Even standard game modes have RNG, so....yea about that.  Hate to break it to ya...but card games are built on RNG.  Arena/Expeditions just increases that level of RNG in a voluntarily manner. (i.e. you choose to play that mode)

THE ONLY thing that you said that wasn't complete whining or had some semblance of reasonability was that Arena doesn't have a free option like casual duels. I do agree that one particular feature would increase arena's popularity.  Beyond that.  Your complaint sounds like the rest of r/hearthstone:  "I got RNG in muh card-game! /cry"

  • New Rogue Minion - SI:7 Smuggler

could be good one you kill off the quest, but by then you should probably already be well on the way to annihilating your opponent

  • New Rogue Spell - Tooth of Nefarian

meh.  Honestly, there are better ways to get Thief cards

  • New Rogue Spell - Smokescreen

8 mana... Rogue offers so many things, but cheating this out earlier than turn 5 is not realistic

  • New Priest Spell - Horn of Wrathion

Not bad but I wonder how well dragon priest would hold up in the current meta

  • New Priest Minion - Lightmaw Netherdrake

Even if you're running Shadow Priest, because there are so many ways to get a Holy spell into your hand, especially if you happen to be playing again another Priest (Thief Priest here we go), this is still a viable option

  • New Neutral Minion - Mi'da, Pure Light

I think that this will be splashed into most quest priests. a 4/6 Lifestealing minion that keeps coming back is something that not a lot of decks want to see.  Especially with a control class like Priest.

  • New Paladin Spell - Ring of Courage

The tradeable ability has me sold on this.  You get it early before the board has gone out of control, get a new card.  Later on, if you need to beef up something with taunt, totally worth it.

  • New Paladin Minion - Stormwind Avenger

Libram Paladin has a new friend

  • New Paladin Minion - Battle Vicar

Not bad, not too good.  Could be good if you don't WANT to include some holy spells in your deck and you and hopefully dice roll into it

  • New Mage Spell - Drakefire Amulet

The idea that this is a tradeable card in your hand and that once you get Iceblood Tower on the board becomes a potentially pain is hopeful.  However 10 mana to cast to get 2 potentially mediocre minions is a helluvah dice roll.

  • New Mage Spell - Deep Breath

Everyone is bashing this... but look at what Combustion has been able to do.  This is somewhat controllable with the amount of damage you can do as well.

  • New Mage Minion - Haleh, Matron Protectorate

If you're able to cheat this out and have mana to spare... this will make most people really hate seeing someone play Mage.  I can only imagine what kind of shenanigans will be played with Wild

  • New Hunter Spell - Furious Howl

    Face (palm) Hunter love...

  • New Hunter Minion - Pet Collector

Not bad.  A cheaper Guardian Animals that still gives you 2 minions on the field is good in my book

  • New Hunter Spell - Dragonbane Shot

In a standard meta that is flooded with low health minions, this is going to be a must include card for any Hunter build.  The efficiency of doing 2 damage to ANY target and the potential to keep getting them in your hand is just too good to not include.

  • New Druid Spell - Scale of Onyxia

I really hate this card.  In a class where ramping is all too easy in Standard and almost assumed in Wild, this can fire off with buffs incredibly fast .

  • New Druid Minion - Raid Negotiator

This card is giving me hives already.  I love it for standard, but the pool of choose one cards in Wild is too erratic for this to be really effective.  I can see people putting it in a deck for flavor and some versatility, but at the least the idea of a Raid Negotiator is hilarious.

  • New Druid Minion - Boomkin

I can see this sneaking it's way into some wild decks with Quest Druid, and maybe some midrange support with Standard.  But I am not seeing this be a mainstay right now.
