  • Hearthstone's Standard and Wild Modes are Getting Balance Changes on January 25

    Quote From dapperdog

    Just wanted to comment on two parts of your prediction;

    - Wildpaw Gnoll at 6 is significant, because that means without Secret Passage shenanigans, its going to be 4 mana without further support, which means the card is just vanilla with rush. At 7 mana, it's just plain weak without an extra reduction at which point its just vanilla. In other words, 7 mana is overkill. With secret passage due to disappear in 3 months, I doubt team5 would ever go that far.

Especially if their intention is also to nerf scabbs. They'll never do two nerfs to thief rogue, and even if they do, the nerf will never be as far as you suggest.

I'm going to be honest here, when i did my prediction i still had Secret Passage in mind but i forgot the part where it rotates in 3 months. So yeah i completely agree that nerfing Wildpaw Gnoll by 2 mana is overkill, 1 mana should be more than plenty. The main reason i did my +2 mana prediction was also a bit of a burgle rogue "bias", because i would love to see "burgle" rogue go back to an actual burgle package.

I still think that its possible that they could nerf both Gnoll and scabbs. +1 mana on Gnoll alone would have a decent impact, but doesn't solve the problem that people keep Scabbs in their hand during mulligan AND have a high winrate by doing that.

I will also agree that a Defias Cannoneer nerf might be a bit too early. I still think it should be nerfed someday, but this might not be the time. The main reason i thought of this nerf prediction is because of all the "feels bad" moments it generates, especially when summoned by The Juggernaut.

  • What are you guys enjoying presently?

I just recently got back into playing, and I'm definitely having fun.

I think I'm a bit weird in this small community, given that I actually play on ladder, and I don't really get stressed about it. After the recent balance changes, I played a fair bit with Daring Poros, because I will always have a soft spot for those guys. My first ever Masters was accomplished with Poros, back when no one thought they were any good.

Still, I did want to play a bit with some actual champions, so I have also been using Lulu/Ahri and enjoying that as well.

When not competing on the ladder, I've managed to clear Path of Champions with the first 5 champs and got the rewards and all. It was definitely engaging, but I'm not sure how much motivation I'll have to keep playing that. At least not as much as I had for playing the old, original Lab of Legends.

What about the rest of you fine folks? What are you enjoying these days?

Hearthstone which has literally been on the market for like 20 years.

Quote from the internet about Hearthstone's official release date--

"The game was released on March 11, 2014."

We do some simple math and conclude that Hearthstone is just a little bit less than 8 years old.

Look, in all seriousness, you clearly don't like Legends of Runeterra anymore. There's a simple solution to that - just stop playing it. There is literally (see what I did there? using the word properly and all?) no reason for you to try to drag other people down into hating the game along with you.

    See you later!

Edit - Total side note about that Grapplr video: That Tristana/Rumble deck looks super interesting. I kinda wanna try it out.

Hey fam, I'm creating this thread as a spot for tips, tricks, and comps for tackling a specific PvE bounty.

If there's a better space for this kind of thing, let me know.

An example, Lord Banehollow's crew have Holy weakness, so bring your holy damage to finish them off.

Second example: I'm stuck on Rend Blackhand. What did you do against a boss that can deal 200 damage in one shot?

Good idea to create this thread. I am happy with it at least.
Sometimes it's just a struggle, and a simple advice can help you out.

  • New Year, New Nozdormu Day - Speedy Tidings and Decks for the Beginning of 2022

mods, do you plan on making articles about the new items in the shop such as book of heroes skins?

I really want that illidan skin, I dont wanna miss that, and I just noticed the malfurion skin too, was scared of missing that

(I would trust on the "NEW!" sign on the shop icon, however, those exclamation marks do not work correctly as you know... they show up even when there is nothing new; so an article, or news would be useful since this site kinda commits to that kinda stuff?)

  • Beat That Bounty Boss!

Nailed it! Diablo did nicely as a finisher, and my fire comp held their own and did lots of damage.

Alexstraza's Gambit ability did much work, plus she picked up a treasure that restored everyone to full health. Coupled with someone else's treasure that did not allow health to be reduced below 1, and boom, two extra turns to zap my enemies.

    Onward!

  • Blizzard Shares Stats on the Battle for Alterac Valley, At Least 215 Million Games of Hearthstone Played

Which they got 45% so that's close!  I do think they mentioned Alliance players played more games on avg but Horde were showing more Honor per avg.  Seeing as the Horde card Drek'thar is likely the more competitive card I could see Horde players on average having a higher winrate and being competitive minded in their deck choices, but then Alliance players choosing the "fun card" would likely be people who play more.

All in all it still kind of balanced out to the average you calculated though.

  • Blizzard Shares Stats on the Battle for Alterac Valley, At Least 215 Million Games of Hearthstone Played

Horde's weighted average = 20.8 honor per game if 50% WR
Alliance's weighted average =19.2 honor per game, 50% WR
    [43(20.8) / 57(19.2)] = 44.97
So all 43% Horde player committing the same # of games as an Alliance counterpart would earn 44.97% of the honor

A "sense of accomplishment" is not my primary goal! I'd just like to unlock the next thing.

I don't think I've ever seen those Assassinate treasures. Closest I can recall is Sylvanas stealing 3x3 from everyone.

The Hunting Party treasure that prevents new things from spawning does not work on Blackhand's gang, so I need these additional ideas!

If you have diablo and Cairne this match is trivial. Just sack your first team (for me its nature bros) and then enter cairne and diablo with fire stomp. Blackhand would then be severely weakened if not outright dead from that move.

If you have that treasure that deals 6 fire damage to everything when something dies from a fire attack (usually gained from diablo) then the game is over. Just sack first team, fire stomp and win. In fact you might have to restart your game because the animation loops kinda too long.

You dont even need a fully loaded diablo to do this. Lvl 3 fire stomp is all you need.

All jokes aside there are certain early indicators that perhaps the excitement for the overall direction of the game is starting to decline.

Bruised By God 3 weeks ago went on a meta rant with reddit and largely hasn't been playing much since (largely saying Champs aren't as flexible as they used to be aka are worse)

Mogwai and Swim typically spend more time not covering the game than they do over the past year. Like Swim used to break Runeterra with his decks like it was a fulltime job.

Generally awareness and excitement for the game among casual players and the community at large is fading.

Like at the end of the day of Champs aren't A) flexible B) win cons C) flashy nobody is going.to play this game over Hearthstone which has literally been on the market for like 20 years.

Am I trolling not really, the more time every one spends with their panties in a bunch the faster the game will die with us too afraid to have legitimate discussions about design and balance.

Case study: In MTG when Tefari Time Raveler was released in Dominaria he basically broke the game...and that was okay he had a good run and he got banned when necessary but God what a good card sold well too.

When Ekko released in Legends he was fun but under-powered in-flexible and under-baked. He remains at a negative winrate in the only deck he's playable something like 6-8 month after release. This is bad people...it's bad for hard-core players its bad for monetization at Riot and it's bad for the casual player base too.

Case study 2: Nautelus the coolest Champ Riot has made remains at a negative winrate 2 years after release...yes this is also bad people. Better to let the card be broken like Oko for 3 months than for him to stay like wet fart in the wind. God I feel bad for deep players they literally only get 1 playable deck and it's bad.

Case study 3: Yassao! Literally a ronin samurai with a katana, and practically one of the faces of League of Legends and he's unplayable...Jinx is too. The reality is that 95% of the Champs in this game are bad, and if they arent bad they were nerfed until they were bad.

I dont want to play a card game where the main selling point of its existence as a video game is being massochistically tortured out of its own design philosophy.

I played 5 games with him in my deck, ok quite late in the day for Europe. None of my adversaries had it. A bit sad. I wanted a fast game. Maybe next time.
Probably playin at standard ~4 diamond matters :)) Ppl don't take the risk.

Nature bros (Malfurion, Guff, Brukan) for everything, with the three extra flex slots for individual bosses. Usually I'd have brightwing and diablo in one of those spots.

Haven't fail me yet. The only time I'd ever change this arrangement is in winterspring where enemies attack twice, in which case I would usually add mutanus and xyrella somewhere.

Don't even need to take on difficult hero fights for those level 5 treasures. Just boost up your nature damage and at some point guff would do ridiculous damage, around 60 without crits, on entry. At that point the only way you lose is that you've fallen asleep halfway through.

Hello fellow HearthStoners, grinders and casuals from all ranks,

My last entry to this thread dates from Autumn 2021 - I haven't played that much during the last quarter, but as I like to archive my statistics -  I figured I could update my progression; no significant milestones were crossed, but all my remaining non-thousands-wins-and-over classes have progressed towards the inevitable completion. Demon Hunter is still far from the finish line, but thankfully, Druid, Mage & Shaman are "almost" there. Retaking my previous comment for comparative purposes, and adding an extra column:

Getting excited to see that the end is near for most of the original vanilla classes. I'm currently not too thrilled to play mage, as I found the current big spells and fire mage archetype boring to play, but Druid and Shaman are in a good place to make it fun to play, and we are soon to receive some updates and change to the meta, so things may stay interesting - hopefully!

Let us know down bellow how your personal questing crusade is going and which milestone(s) you are currently seeking!
Wishing everyone a good grind and a fair amount of success along the way

PS: I appreciate how the thread keeps being revived every now and then - thank  you Avalon for the constant necro-threading <3

  • Beat That Bounty Boss!

I did them a while ago, so my memory is a bit shaky, but a couple I remember quite clearly were:

    1. Beating Snowclaw with Thrall's elite encounter Hex treasure. It has 5-turn cooldown, so he had to sit on the bench while my first 3 mercs stalled by not attacking (attacking Snowclaw would hurt them seriously). When 5 turns had passed I had someone die, brought Thrall out, turned Snowclaw into a 0/1 frog and had it easy from there.
    2. I beat Icehowl using Valeera Sanguinar's treasure that makes her immune while she's stealthed. Then she just sat in the middle while Icehowl kept hitting the character in front of him (i.e. the immune Valeera). I guess you can bring Scabbs along too since Valeera will make him immune as well.

When all else fails, I've found a couple of ways that can cheese most (though not quite all) bosses:

    1. Use King Mukla with his equipment that makes bananas give more health. Then try/hope to get the treasure for him that sets his starting health to 4 (or 6 if from an elite encounter) and he only takes 1 damage. You have to be careful he doesn't die on turn 1, so you might start him on the bench so his speed (3) taunt ability is ready when you first use him, but once he gets going he should gain health way faster than the opponents can deal damage.
    2. Use Valeera Sanguinar and/or Scabbs Cutterbutter and try/hope to get their elite encounter "Assassinate 2" treasure that will destroy an enemy at the start of the encounter. If you're lucky you'll hit the boss itself and trivialise the fight, and even if you hit something else it often makes things A LOT easier.
      1. Note that against Nefarian you actually want the non-elite "Assassinate 1" which only hits neutrals, and hence will guaranteed hit Nefarian himself. It's not much use against other bosses though, except Chromaggus who starts neutral, and only Valeera gets offered this I believe.

The downsides of these plans is they don't give you a big sense of accomplishment when you do them, and the Mukla approach especially can end up a tedious process where you only have Mukla left and you slowly punch the boss down. The big upside is they only require 1 merc, so you can bring them along with 5 other mercs who you build a proper plan around, when they provide a back-up plan.

  • Weekend of Wild Hearthstone Decks - Gonk Questline Druid, Mill Priest, "Cube" Demon Hunter

Thank you for the highlight! Quick update as I write out the guide over the course of today-the original idea of Living Seed was replaced by Capture Coldtooth Mine at the suggestion of Swizard and it has worked far more consistently as a deck overall. You may want to update the article to reflect that since the deck list does not include it any longer…or not! But thank you for the mention regardless.

  • Weekend of Wild Hearthstone Decks - Gonk Questline Druid, Mill Priest, "Cube" Demon Hunter

Highly recommend the Gonk Druid - One of the most fun Druid decks I’ve tried and it’s decently competitive as well - mostly play it in Casual but it went 4-0 in ranked beating 2 pirate warriors, an odd hunter, and a deathrattle aggro rogue.

  • Blizzard Shares Stats on the Battle for Alterac Valley, At Least 215 Million Games of Hearthstone Played

Not surprising really.  Let's say an Alliance player and a Horde player each play 100 game, and each win the same number of games in that 100 game stretch, and both face 58% Alliance and 42% Horde opponents.  The Horde player has 58% of his games where he can earn the max 40 Honor, where the Alliance player can only earn 40 Honor in 42% of their games. So logically the Horde would average more honor per player if they had such a big gap in players choosing that faction.
