This is genius, KANSAS! Thank you so much!

I felt like this version deserved to be epic because 6/6 over two bodies is borderline broken for 2 Mana. What makes me think I can get away with this is that everything above 1 Attack kills the Cub and denies the Frenzy. Just pray your opponent doesn't start with the coin and an Augmerchant or Wound Prey. What do you think? Is it too strong? I could just let it Summon Misha as well, but I don't want to mess up the Momma Bear rescues her cub flavor. Would it be okay to leave the text on the Cub as it is and use Misha as the token?

I'm really surprised by the fact that 4 out of 5 entries so far aren't Frenzy minions, but instead give a Frenzy effect to other things. But anyways, feedback.

    Wailor
It's a perfectly fine "filler" card (if a bit out of flavor), but these types of cards usually don't do that well in comps.

    Linkblade91
I did already mention my feedback on Discord, but I still stand by everything I mentioned. I prefer Gargok since he's more interesting than No Pain No Gain.

    Cydonianknight
    Pretty solid card all around.

    KANSAS
I really like the idea of the card, but I'm not sure how playable it would be in practice, specifically as you need to pay the full Cost every time you want to play it (ala Coliseum Manager). I do also agree with Anchorm4n in that it could probably just be a Neutral card.

I will admit that I also did not consider the possibility of infinitely combo-ing with Saurfang. I'm not so sure that it would even be broken, but it does make me want to think of a new card.

    Grumpymonk
Really like the idea, but I do agree with the other feedback in regards to the Frenzy negating the Overload. Tweak it yourself and you could have a pretty solid card. I have the same opinion as Anchorm4n regarding the art.

    Anchorm4n
I quite like the idea, but I feel the card is currently a little bit clunky in terms of translating the gameplay and the flavor. I'm not quite sure how to fix this and the card is otherwise solid.

  • Does DH have a good reason to exist yet?

    Quote From Synnr7

As for working together, I think DH has one of the most solid plans laid out. Pressure early, Inquisitor finish. Real simple. Sure the Deathrattle stuff isn't quite on the same path but just another strong card or two and I can see it holding it's own. It's real fun in wild.

I'm not sure I count the appearance of a single big demon (albeit 2 copies) as 'working together', at least not quite how I meant it, but whatever. That's nitpicking beyond what is useful, so let's just leave it there.

Regarding memes, I could start a whole thread over DH's relationship (or lack thereof) with memes. Poor Zai, the Incredible is a card with so much meme potential but stranded in a class with no memes to offer. Were she not in DH, she would open up a whole world of silly decks. There have been plenty of cards that have had their wings clipped by the class they are put in, and I think Zai might be one of the most upsetting. Who knows though, maybe one day Illidan will stop being so serious and give her something incredible to do?

  • Looking for a good post-nerf deck that isn't Hunter or Paladin

I finally gave OTK Hunter a try and piloted it from D10 to D5 using this list and making the recommended changes - subbed Scrap Shot and 1 Scavenger's Ingenuity for 2 copies of Kolkar Pack Runner.

For me, it didn't play like a true OTK deck but rather a chip them down early and then do 16 - 20 damage via Leoroxx deck (or the reverse with Leoroxx setting up a Piercing Shot and Quick Shot finish the next turn).  It didn't feel overly strong, but still might be worth trying out as a change of pace.

As with any deck, there was a learning curve in deciding when/what to discover and how to prioritize the mulligan (definitely want Freezing Trap vs Rush Warrior and Pack Runner vs Paladin).  I also wasn't sold on Zixor or the remaining copy of Ingenuity so there's room to personalize and someone in the comments suggested 2x Imprisoned Felmaw which makes sense based on my experience with the deck.

I'm not a fan of grinding the ladder, but if I play any more I'll be trying out this Legend Egg Hunter list that looks pretty fun.  However, I'm cautiously optimistic about its competitive viability as it looks like the OP farmed Warlocks during his climb and those have been less common for me atm (would've loved to run into it more as OTK Hunter farmed them too!).

Honestly this card feels pretty weak. It is very easy for your opponent to just ping it with something useless, making this a slower, worse version of Mind Vision. And triggering this yourself feels kind of pointless unless the card you are triggering it with also has another effect you want to copy. Also it has an infinite combo with Overlord Saurfang which probably wouldn't be fun to fight against.

    Wailor:

    Show Spoiler
If you changed the name/art you could make this into a very flavorful card. As it is though I don't see how this makes sense with a wolf since wolves are a wild animal. You could change it to "Intimidating Guard Dog" or something and it would work better.

    Linkblade:

    Show Spoiler
I would change it to only summon frenzy minions rather than any minion. That way there is less of a deckbuilding restriction and you can still use cards like Acolyte of Pain and Armor Vendor, which fit into the same build but don't have the frenzy keyword.

    cydonianknight:

    Show Spoiler
It seems fine, but maybe a little bland. It is well balanced, but it isn't all that interesting and flavor wise it feels the same as every other demon hunter card.

    grumpymonk:

    Show Spoiler
This is very powerful. You can't really deal 5 damage at once on turn 3, so the frenzy is practically guaranteed to trigger, making the overload obsolete. I would increase the cost and stats to make this is more of a mid/late game beater so that there is a bit more dynamic in trying to get the frenzy to trigger.

    anchorm4n:

    Show Spoiler
I really, really like the idea, but I think you could have executed it better. I would make it a cub that has a frenzy to summon a mama bear with taunt, rather than a mama bear that has a frenzy to gain taunt. Then you could make it cheaper which would make it a powerful tool in aggro decks. And also have a nice story of a baby bear getting in trouble, then having the mama bear swoop into protect it.

I was convinced that the two would surely be released at the same time as well but here we are.

As the official blog describes the three units as "each one an invaluable partner to the new champions coming in the expansion", it makes you wonder if Zilean will be about predicting after all as Clockwork Curator doesn't seem to have direct synergy with the mechanic. Or maybe it was just a thematic statement.

I did quite enjoy the last comp, but it does feel nice to go back to something Hearthstone.

But what if the source of damage is mage hero power?

    Then you get nothing

In general, it's a cool idea, I really like the Unlock mechanic. The problem with your card is that the Frenzy effect will most of the time negate the Overload. Hard removal on turn 3/4 is rare, as are minions with 5+ attack. So in the end, you will most likely end up playing a 3 Mana 5/5 with no drawback and that's a bit too powerful for my taste. Regarding the art, I'd prefer the water elemental in a vacuum, but the air elemental is a better fit for Barrens.

    KANSAS
Nice idea, I like it. It would be a cool support card for Quest Warrior in Wild, but other than that, I see no reason why this could not be a Neutral card. Just a thing to keep in mind in case you end up with art that isn't especially Warrior-like. I have something in mind that might fit, but couldn't find it yet. Big shield on a battlefield, arrows sticking out of it, you can't really see much of the character behind it. It has been used quite frequently in our competitions if I remember correctly.

    cydonianknight
Very solid card, I'd say this is a safe finalist. The one thing I'd like to see changed is the text: "this turn" should be placed at the end.

    linkblade
I really like how you thought out of the box. Out of your two cards, I prefer the spell. The name is worth a star for itself, the only thing that might be worth a brush over is the art which looks quite dark. I'm not a big fan of the Hero card because it lacks breathing room. The Hero Power can be used on all kinds of minions or even as removal but is clearly aiming at the enrage archetype. That would be okay, if a little boring. The Battlecry on the other hand is restricted to cards from Forged in the Barrens since I don't expect we'll see more Frenzy cards after the mini set. I can't remember a Hero card with such a harsh restriction so I wouldn't advice going with this Battlecry. Finally, I don't like the art very much although I do like the fact that you've used an existing and fitting character.

    Wailor
I don't really get the flavor, sorry. Why should a Wolf go Stealth if you hit it? I'd expect it to ferociously fight back.

    Demon
Nice card. Nothing to criticize from my side.

True, but Malphite makes a physical appearance in the trailer, I imagine that's relevant.

  • Does DH have a good reason to exist yet?

Oh I'm sure they'll still fit their meme cards in. Blizzard is good at that. Plus with all the free rewards track stuff they are pushing I'm sure we'll have no trouble getting our meme on. Mini set will help give an extra push to mechanics that didn't take off.

Yes you are right Core21 didn't push much in the way off controlling DH but this set changes year to year. So maybe it's not a thing they want to focus this year.

We may just disagree here and that's fine. As for Rogue, relying on a weapon to heal is a weakness. One Ooze and you can loose multiple cards depending on what poisons you run. Demon Hunter has a bigger variety, which is what I was stating as a positive. As for working together, I think DH has one of the most solid plans laid out. Pressure early, Inquisitor finish. Real simple. Sure the Deathrattle stuff isn't quite on the same path but just another strong card or two and I can see it holding it's own. It's real fun in wild.

  • [Game] Card Treasure Hunt (The Resurrection Attempt)

Text is not related to the card's effect, stats or anything else, but its name.

Name. On the edge. Riddle is pronounced as "ridl".

  • Guardians of the Ancient

Zilean is from Icathia, once a vassal state in the shouth of Shurima. And Malphite comes from Ixtal, a Jungle region in the east of Shurima. So both champions would fit more or less into Shurima. Since they already showed Zilean in some of the Shurima cards, I guess they will add Zilean next and maybe Malphite in the third expansion. But I wouldnt be surprised If they wont add Malphite at all because there are many more champions that would fit better than Malphite, like Xerath.

To me, less neutrals is actually better. Dying to Leeroy Jenkins no matter the class isn't healthy. We also have to remember to add in the Core set to the calculation of available cards. Getting that bunch of cards, free, is amazing for the game. I've honestly been having a lot of fun exploring those legendaries along side Barrens stuff. So while we loose some neutrals per set, we gain a more focused core.

And yes you could write a SIMILAR description for Rogue. They lack the healing and taunt for long games. As well as currently don't have OTK tools and do more of a death of a thousand cuts over continuous turns of damage. Also a strong battle cry and bounce core as you mentioned before. Overall I think it's similar yet different enough to have positives and negatives for using either class.

I was referring more to archetype-producing neutrals like Desert Obelisk (obviously a meme example, but no doubt produced something unique), rather than generally good neutrals like Leeroy, Pen Flinger and the new Alex that we learn to hate sooner or later.

Core set is a big plus, although it didn't do very much to help diversify DH. I guess Illidari Inquisitor finally got the class to use a big demon, though it had to brute force it by being ridiculously OP to compensate for the problems with the outcast mechanic. (I'm not hating on outcast itself, just how it was made too central to the class.)

And yes, DH has plenty of strengths that rogue doesn't have. As I said to @Dapperdog though, I don't personally think it is enough unless they actually combine the more disparate aspects of the class into the same decks. At present the sides of DH don't mix well enough for individual decks to really showcase how DH has a unique set of strengths, and it is not helped that we have seen lifesteal on rogue weapons twice before, making it iffy to say rogue couldn't have healing.

  • [Game] Card Treasure Hunt (The Resurrection Attempt)

Ok. I don't know how to not spoil it... The answer is somewhere on the edge. Advanced hint - "At now, unfortunately, I don't have a riddl'."

  • New Targon Card - Chip

what landmarks needed.. some early game.. playing a landmark heavy deck leaves you without blockers.. and the Taliyah followers are badly stated..

  • Runeterra's Guardians of the Ancient Expansion Releases on May 5! New Cards, Trailer, and Details

Weird they are releasing ZIlean without Ekko,

Seems like we are getting some landmark archtype missing pieces between Targon and Shurima (Taliyah didn't had a good 2nd champion really..)

I am quite sure Zilean is all about predict, and Ekko is the other part of that.. so.. Zilean will probably be underwhelming without the second part.

So we have Zilean for Shurima, Irelia for Ionia and Malphite for Targon.

I guess.. maphite being in Targon is weird but they are not doing Ixtal (Malphite's actual origin) so it makes sense.

  • Does DH have a good reason to exist yet?

    Quote From dapperdog

Dhunters true identity is actually hero attacks. A lot of its best cards synergizes with hero attacks, it has a 1 mana hp that allows for a hero attack, a lot of its cards buffs its attack (not weapon), and its minions does things with a hero attack. Its so important to the class that getting your face frozen is more devastating to dhunters than to any other class, almost near levels of having to skip the entire turn because of it.

You made some good points on the subject of hero attacks, but what is given to both warrior and rogue are weapons, and things that work with weapons. Your argument that rogue has been 'silently begging' for cards that work with hero attacks is kinda hard to justify, given that rogue cards has often revolved around its weapon rather than the actual attack, like Deadly Poison, Cutting Class, stuff that will do other stuff regardless of whether the rogue actually performs the attack.

But this discussion is fairly academic. The real reason why anyone would want to play a dhunter deck is because they are the only tempo class that can heal and burn, and are the only class that needs* to draw cards to play their turn and they do it better than any other class (mage bs not withstanding). Playing a midrange dhunter is vastly different than playing any other midrange deck, with a good combination of weapons, burn, sustain and card draw that other classes simply do not have.

I think to argue whether a class should exist on the theory of uniqueness alone is often going to end up nowhere because I remember during AoO it was largely accepted that dhunters were simply doing the same things both hunter and rogue were doing, but better. That doesn't mean that hunters and rogues were necessarily obsolete. Metas change, and so does class playstyle, part of the reason why most of us really love the first expansion after rotation.

I consider the distinction between weapon synergy and hero attack synergy to be quite superficial, though not without merit. For the most part weapons are a way to give your hero an attack value, so the two things are in no way decoupled. The fact they have always associated rogue's synergy with the weapons themselves in no way means they couldn't have chosen to attach it to your hero attacking if they wanted to switch up the playstyle of rogue for an expansion cycle. The point being that the choice to make DH do it doesn't mean DH needed to exist for the archetype/playstyle to exist.

The matter of how different classes combine different strengths and weaknesses is a much more compelling argument for why DH ought to exist. At it stands I'm not sure DH's class identity is quite there yet though. Perhaps if it could seriously mix big demons into its decks (I'm on the fence over whether to count Illidari Inquisitor here, given every other deck is running the new Alexstrasza anyway), then it would be bringing a fresh mix of tools to the table. So far though, DH always feels either like hunter/rogue + healing, OR a warlock. They are never really mixed, and I suspect the outcast mechanic is a large part of why.

It is a valid question whether giving healing to a tempo class switches things up enough to justify it. I'm leaning towards no, especially as they have been trying to make tempo priest work for years, and if they could just manage that we'd have a tempo deck + healing anyway. However, there is no objective answer here so won't pretend there is.

None of this is to say I don't think DH has the potential to easily justify its place. The devs just need to give it a bit of a rework to get it there. The sigils are definitely a good start.

  • Does DH have a good reason to exist yet?

    Quote From Synnr7

There are more than nuances, a lot of that stuff other classes can do and overlap with others. Which is a good thing.

At the moment, DH just lacks a spark in this sense. It just fails to give me a compelling reason why I would choose over another class, except that the specific card I'm interested in happens to be in DH.

I can understand this point however I don't think saying things like it doesn't justify it's existence as a class. It has positives like strong draw, discounts (with skull), copying effects (Zai). As well as powerful disruption with Star Student Stelina and Glide. It can also be very fast out the gate with it's hero power and many attack buffs. None of this is completely unique sure but it's not inconsequential.

It's also okay that the class doesn't appeal to everybody. I know people who dislike Warlock or only play Mage. It doesn't mean Demon Hunter doesn't have it's place in the game.

As for sigils, I like the idea. It's a secret that the opponent knows and reacts too. Very neat idea.

I guess my issue is that there is an opportunity cost associated with DH existing: it's not like we are getting the DH variants of decks for free, because it has reduced the number of neutral cards we get. Some of those losses would have created archetypes themselves, and often quite unique ones when you look at janky neutral epics of previous years (we had 9 neutral epics each expansion before DH arrived, and only 3 since, so this makes quite a big difference). With that in mind, DH does have to do more to stand out imo.

As for your example description of what DH can do, you could write almost exactly the same paragraph for rogue. Only the disruption part is missing, though the secrets go some way towards it (especially Shenanigans).

As I said though, there is hope and I don't hate the class. I'm just waiting to find it novel.
