Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have a look at it! Mystery / detective usually isn't down my alley but you got me at potential destruction of the galaxy :D
Kaladin is a cool hero and I'm looking forward to seeing his character develop now he's embraced being a knight and no longer sulking and suffering. That got a bit too much for my taste to be honest.
Or in other words, it SHOULD only cost 1 less regardless of how many of those keywords the card has, but with how Hearthstone has some spaghetti coding at times, we may not know for sure at the moment.
Fitting, given this is a spaghetti western expansion 😜🤙
Stormlight is a VERY good series. Kaladin is probably my favorite hero figure from any book series ever. No joke. He just IS the hero. Even when he doesn't want to be, he is THE hero. He gets the most incredible moments.
As far as Scifi you might not know about - are you familiar with Timothy Zahn? One of my favorites by him is the Quadrail Series (5 books, starting with "Night Train to Rigel"). It's a sort of "film noir" type of series - dark mystery, detective, hidden secrets that could destroy the galaxy - that sort of thing.
I feel Quickdraw is a mostly worse outcast. Similar condition, if you just topdeck'd it/drew it then it's got the bonus active. But Outcast can be kept in hand till it's the left most to become active again. More than scry effects i feel we need re-shuffle for Quickdraw to work and feel good.
Its a lol card that will never work in competitive.
But I can see a possibility of it working if there are more cheap cards for this to discount. You can never truly write off cards that reduces mana costs. I would say a 1 in 10 chance that this card actually contributes to some degenerate combo at some point, but Id say you're more likely to win a lottery that this working.
In 2023, and with Prison Breaker being a staple in two of the classes where spawning a bunch of 2/3 taunts would be useful against, this card simply not good enough, unless youre specifically playing this on 4 with the quickdraw triggered.
It'll see some play, in aggro decks, or in very specific handbuff decks but its not really that great aside from the fact that its a straight up upgrade from the original Saronite Chain Gang.
It'll see play by sole virtue of the fact that it excavates.
Highlander decks would need it, but in other decks its likely going to get superseded by a cheaper excavate card. For what it is, the main issue that its 5 mana, in 2023 that 5 mana card would need to do quite a lot to see play in competitive.
Firstly, in what world in 2023 is there a deck that will deplete your hand so severely that this card actually becomes relevant?
And secondly, in what world will random murlocs that you'll need to play ever win you games?
Unfortunately, unless we're looking at vomit pally, or dhunter, this card will simply never see light of day. Maybe in arena, but Im not holding my breath.
Probably a bad card. 5 mana to draw one card is way too slow in today's game, and if that one card doesn't end up winning you the game is there any point in doing it?
The only good thing from this card is that it will usually end up drawing you a high value card like colossals or even just Thunderbringer, which can actually bring out neptulon, which can easily win you games. But its too convoluted and inconsistent.
I wont say it will never see play, we're coming back to a highlander meta after all, but its likely just filler for lack of a better term.
We havent seen all the quickdraw cards so obviously my review is a bit premature.
But from what Ive seen, this is nowhere near the equivalent of something like Instructor Fireheart. All it takes is but one high mana cost quickdraw card to completely stop you in your tracks and from the looks of it its highly unlikely that there wouldn't be at least one that cost more than 4 mana. And then there's the fact that you're not discovering these cards, youre getting it at random. So at times you'll get Dehydrate and feel good about yourself, and then get completely walled at other times.
That said, its likely this card will see play. Highlander is coming back so you naturally need more cards and this is just a good value card that replaces itself. Just dont count on this doing more than that.
I loved the original Meteorologist. But that doesnt alter the fact that that card was shit, never played, and this card is basically just that. Too expensive and too inconsistent makes for a poor card indeed.
The only good thing I can see from this card is that it excavates. Depending on whether mage will run highlander, or whether excavate proves so wildly successful, this card might get a nod or be confined to meme class.
This card is actually way better than Meteorologist. It has an extra +1/+1, it always deals one more damage because of the generated card, and of course, it Excavates. It's still not good enough to be auto-included or anything, but it might be good enough to see play.
Its definitely objectively better than meteorologist. But the former was introduced 7 years ago :) So its entirely expected that this is a straight upgrade.
But I still think both are not good enough in today's meta. You'll likely play this card entirely for the excavate alone.
Amazing card! Reasonably powerful effect, even better with hand buffing. But best of all, the flavor! Dude just flies in punching everybody! Can't wait!
This card is to Excavate as Devoted Maniac is to Invoke. Except the stats on this card are nowhere near as shit as that one, so it won't feel bad to run this.
From the way it's phrased, it appears to count cards with either of the keywords rather than instances of those keywords on the cards.
Or in other words, it SHOULD only cost 1 less regardless of how many of those keywords the card has, but with how Hearthstone has some spaghetti coding at times, we may not know for sure at the moment.
I don't know, a card like this makes you want to run only minions that are good to summon 4/4 copies of, but then you can only run one copy of each or it won't go off. An 8 mana 5/5 needs to be more consistently good, and a legendary at that.

This has big potential, but it's really expensive. 5 mana for a 3/4, and you're probably not playing the drawn beast right away. If you run only a small, select group of large beasts that really want a discount, you run the risk of drawing them naturally before you can play this.
I'm going to go ahead and say that this card will be quite good. If I'm reading it right (no idea, as we've never had this wording on a card before), random murlocs will be added to your hand until you have 3 cards. If you play a murloc, another will be added, and if you have the mana to play another, you keep going. Anyone else think it might work like that?

Its a lol card that will never work in competitive.

New Neutral Minion - Azerite Chain Gang
I really want to like this. But I cant.
In 2023, and with Prison Breaker being a staple in two of the classes where spawning a bunch of 2/3 taunts would be useful against, this card simply not good enough, unless youre specifically playing this on 4 with the quickdraw triggered.

OMG Howdyfin is love, Howdyfin is life. This set is nuts, i'm loving the vibe.
New Neutral Minion - Kobold Miner
Nothing too crazy here, and a 2 mana 1/1 is just bad. But Excavate looks like a useful keyword, so this should see some play.
New Hunter Minion - Theldurin the Lost
Amazing card! Reasonably powerful effect, even better with hand buffing. But best of all, the flavor! Dude just flies in punching everybody! Can't wait!

Five Must-Play Games: Hollow Knight, Elden Ring, & More!
I'm sorry, I must have mixed something up here. Maybe I've finished it in 3 hours and it cost 30 € on release? It definitely felt too short.
About that 30 hours remark... I'm spoilt by the witcher 3 :D
Looking forward to those articles you've mentioned!
New Priest Minion - Elise, Badlands Savior
I don't know, a card like this makes you want to run only minions that are good to summon 4/4 copies of, but then you can only run one copy of each or it won't go off. An 8 mana 5/5 needs to be more consistently good, and a legendary at that.

Solid card right here! Beefy rush minion with an added bonus. Plus, there is mech synergy in Standard right now.

New Neutral Minion - Bounty Board
It's hard to see this being super useful. It's a really neat idea, though. The discount on Quickdraw cards is probably the most impactful.
All Showdown in the Badlands Day 1 Hearthstone Card Reveals - October 19
Do we know if Bounty Board stacks? Like, if there's an Excavate, Tradeable, Quickdraw Legendary, does it cost 4 less?
