  • The Epic Store Games for the Week Are Here - Claim Europa Universalis IV and Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You Until Next Thursday

I have zero desire to accept money from parties in exchange for talking about their games. It's one thing to affiliate link games where possible (Amazon, Humble) but getting paid by developers is not a road I want to go down because that's how you end up with IGN dishing out 9/10 reviews for trash.

If devs want to provide a review copy of a game with the understanding that it isn't going to influence our coverage or opinions, sure. But if anyone on the team accepts any money from a developer to write a review or cover a game, they're getting kicked to the curb. That's one of the biggest problems with games journalism.

  • The Epic Store Games for the Week Are Here - Claim Europa Universalis IV and Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You Until Next Thursday

I... wrote those two descriptions myself.

We'd certainly love to have more indies on the site, we just haven't had the opportunity to talk with any at the moment. We have a few reviews on the previous version of OOG, we just haven't gotten to them yet.

As for these articles, as well as the PS Plus and Game Pass ones, they're good for a consistent content flow, since they're on a pretty stable schedule. I used to write the descriptions for the PSP (not that one) and GP articles by hand as well, but it took waaaaay too long.

    Those aren't new games, though.

How many of these new games 'articles' on OutOf are just copypasting descriptions from the stores?

Might as well get paid by some lesser-known indies to post their stuff here.

  • What Are You Playing? August 2023

I just wanted to echo link's sentiments @cavestuck and give another endorsement for considering mental health support.

I resisted taking that step for years until I was feeling very much as you describe and things came to a head at work and in my personal life.  It can feel daunting, but I found podcasts to be a safe/accessible first step to learn about different approaches and what might work best for me and my situation.  There are a ton out there, but I found the volume of guests and topics on Shrink Rap Radio to provide great food-for-thought and eventually settled on ACT / found someone trained in that approach in my area.  Here's one I remember resonating:  https://shrinkrapradio.com/422-finding-true-refuge-in-mindfulness-with-tara-brach-phd/

Wishing you love and kindness cavestuck!  And if you haven't seen it (lately), DFW's commencement speech always hits home for me:  https://youtu.be/ms2BvRbjOYo

Weird one to bring back, but Death Knight seems to work rather well since the Ghoul tokens will get a random keyword.

  • What Are You Playing? August 2023

    Quote From cavestuck

I should get an appointment regarding my health and the job search, but honestly I feel in a weird limbo, life feels pretty pointless and even reading is a bit useless and boring... feels like there is no future anyway.

I can't speak from the viewpoint of a professional - only someone who has sought treatment for depression herself - but I say that you absolutely should consider getting help regarding your mental health. For ages we as a civilization have been dismissive of its importance; it's practically ingrained in everyone that you should just shut up and tamp it down, not be fussy or bitchy or whatever other term someone can use to hand-wave away problems. Don't be like that, especially to your own self. You don't have to deal with such feelings alone <3

  • Once Monk eventually gets added should they add OTHER unique mechanics to some of the other classes like DK's rune system?

I think this could be something they could do to keep Hearthstone fans interested and make the game refreshing.

I don't know much about WOW lore so these probably won't make sense, for example:

Mage: If you have spells of only one spell school in your deck your spells gain an additional effect exclusive to that spell school

Priest: Exclusive cards for Shadow priest only, Exclusive cards for Holy Priest only

Druid: Hero power evolves over the course of the game

  • Pokemon Presents Recap - Scarlet and Violet DLC, Detective Pikachu Release Date, and More

Oof, that's what I get for writing articles near midnight. At least those are mostly just misspelling. Fixed most of those, I've let the part about Archaludon belonging to the Elite 4 member, though I believe you're right that it's obtainable somehow (hope it's not via trading, haha).

Couldn't find where the two Paradox Pokemon are mentioned by name, if they are, it's not in the presentation. I know those are their names because I saw some reddit posts about them where they use those names.

  • Patch 27.0.3 is Out - Solid Alibi and Lab Constructor are Nerfed, Plus Bug Fixes

The change to Solid Alibi is likely just a touch to keep it playable while making it worse in terms of win rate. Because lets be honest the card has one of the worse win play rates in mage decks over the last 1 year, so I can understand team5's reluctance to nuke that card.

But I feel at some point its demise is inevitable. The fact is that solid alibi remains one of the most infuriating cards to ever be played against, and doubly so when it out from a discover option. With mage having OTK potential back into its fold, you cant have solid alibi still actively being playable.

As for Lab Constructor, it absolutely needs to be taken down a notch, but its not anywhere near the problem with mech rogue right now. The biggest problem is not stealth, its not labby here snowballing, the biggest problem is actually allowing the sparkbots to have windfury, ensuring that even innocent boards can turn hard into an OTK. Removing windfury will go a long way to making the deck more balanced, even with 4 mana labby.

  • Pokemon Presents Recap - Scarlet and Violet DLC, Detective Pikachu Release Date, and More

A few errors in this article:

    • The area featured in Teal Mask is called Kitakami, not Kitamaki
    • The siblings are Kieran and Carmine, not Keiran and Carmie
    • Tera is spelled incorrectly as terra throughout
    • Okidogi and Munkidori's names are flipped in the image caption. Okidogi is the dog. Munkidori is the monkey
    • Mask is misspelled as Mast in the image caption
    • The Scarlet academy is called Naranja, not Naraja
    • Unclear if you are stating that Archaludon is the bridge Pokémon (as if that is its official classification), or just that it resembles a bridge. It is officially the alloy Pokémon, the same classification as Duraludon.
    • It is also extremely unlikely that a Pokémon would be shown in a trailer and not be available. Historically, every Pokémon shown in a trailer, including momentary cameos let alone full blown reveals, has been obtainable somehow. In all likelihood there will simply be a new evolution method for any Duraludon caught in the DLC areas or traded in. I don't think you have to be so cautious there.
    • The paradox forms of Raikou and Cobalion have in fact been explained at least a little further. Their names are Raging Bolt and Iron Crown.
  • Patch 27.0.3 is Out - Solid Alibi and Lab Constructor are Nerfed, Plus Bug Fixes

2 mana or 3 mana, it doesn't make any difference for Solid Alibi.

    Also, the problem with trading still persists which I mentioned in this thread;

    https://outof.games/forums/hearthstone/hearthstone-general/27332-trading-makes-the-game-crash-on-my-old-laptop

    nice bug fix Blizzard.

  • Solid Alibi and Lab Constructor to Be Nerfed Tomorrow

Now I know why it's called jackpot mage. Golden solid alibi and 1600 dust straight to the bank.

  • Red Dead Redemption Launches on August 17 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch And... That’s About It

The game is available on the X-One and the Series consoles via backwards compatibility. It's even upscaled to 4k. Probably why they're not releasing there. Don't think it's on Gamepass, though.

  • Red Dead Redemption Launches on August 17 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch And... That’s About It

Sorry for not being clear, but yes, unless they plan to launch RDR on gamepass for PC and Xbox, I can't really understand why this two consoles in particular were selected. (I would even understand getting a switch port only even more than this two togheter)

  • Solid Alibi and Lab Constructor to Be Nerfed Tomorrow

    Solid Alibi -> 3 mana

    Lab Constructor -> 5 mana

  • Solid Alibi and Lab Constructor to Be Nerfed Tomorrow

Solid Alibi to 4 and Lab Constructor to 5 mana, I think.

  • Solid Alibi and Lab Constructor to Be Nerfed Tomorrow

Yeah that's true. When OTK is a thing, this kind of cards become problematic but its not the only thing. Paladin was not able to reach more copies of Time Out! on its time which it also saw play in an OTK deck and you can reach Solid Alibi so easy with mage's huge discover potential and that's the real problem here in my opinion. You can use it without putting it to your actual deck and you are almost guaranteed to find one with Vast Wisdom. You don't even waste a deckspot to be able to use it. Of course you can't rely on it and it is better when you use your 3rd or more copy after your opponent thinks "ok, she is out of Solid Alibis now.

It may not be creating a threat or clearing the board but it was screaming that it will be problematic when Vast Wisdom is printed.

The real problem is not the Solid Alibi itself here. It is how it is synergizing with Vast Wisdom and other reach sources.

You may be right about the plague deck might be useful against Solid Alibi but well, a well-timed Steamcleaner can save you from plagues and it just takes a single slot. Nothing can make you get rid of Solid Alibi or even 3x-4x ones. So, when a card has no counterplays, it becomes more problematic. Mages can play Solid Alibi without hesitation because they know nothing can disrupt it except Counterspell which is already a mirror match while other decks needs to think "oh, what if they have Steamcleaner in hand" or any other class, specific/neutral counters of what they are playing.

Solid Alibi was needed a neutral counter or it had to be nerfed.

  • Solid Alibi and Lab Constructor to Be Nerfed Tomorrow

Curses and plagues are unaffected by Solid Alibi. Playing mage I found plague dk to be a pain. I want to draw lots of cards to find Sif, and enough burn because I'd probably need 30 damage. The cost increase plague is very disruptive too.

I don't think Solid Alibi is a problem when mage does not have otk potential. The same was true of Ice Block. Solid Alibi costs one card and 2 mana to stall for a turn. It doesn't clear the board at all, or develop a board for mage. Time Out! made the paladin completely immune for a turn but was never good enough. I think a class can either have otk potential or it can have buy-a-turn stall cards, but not both.

  • Solid Alibi and Lab Constructor to Be Nerfed Tomorrow

In my opinion, Solid Alibi would be ok if it can't be discovered by other sources but with how it is and was, it was needed to be nerfed long ago.

I never wanted a card to be nerfed before. So why do I request it now?

Because, even Ice Block was problematic and they don't bring it back for standard for years but even Ice Block had counterplay with secret destroyer cards but Solid Alibi is just not counterable, you might laten it with increasing spell costs of your opponent or you might try sniping it with Blademaster Okani and that's all. The card is just uncounterable and maximum damage you can done to the opponent is 7 most of the time if you are playing a token deck or a deck who always fills the board and guess what ? They usually use Ice Barrier with it and they gain +1 Health on that turn instead of losing 7... or maybe you need a 30/30 C'Thun with no board or maybe 2x Astalor, the Flamebringer in a single turn which is only happening with 1/1000 of probability...

The only other answer is another mage with Counterspell and OTK'ing her in a turn she didn't use it.

I'm just surprised it was not a nerf candidate until now. There shouldn't be a card with no answers, especially when a class can discover tons of it.

You can literally gain armor and use Solid Alibi and force your opponent to die to fatigue on paper.

So I really request a card to be nerfed for the first time of my HS life which i was playing since beta. If there is a card which is overpowered but counterable, I usually don't request a nerf but this card is only counterable with itself and that happens if you are lucky enough.

    For Lab Constructor, I think;

yeah, it snowballs a lot but it is so vulnerable, I don't think it needs to be nerfed and I don't think it will change anything for Mech Rogue. The most problematic part of Mech Rogue is Stealthed mechs and how you can't remove it easily with some cases and there are a lot of counters for that. If you plan your game good enough against Mech Rogue, you can deal with it most of the time with a lot of other decks, I could counter it with Hunter, Mage, Death Knight, Demon Hunter and Rogue and I'm sure of that other classes can deal with it too. Lab Constructor shouldn't be nerfed imo.

Like Melliflue said, it just balances itself with draw engine etc. and it is just not the key part of the deck imo. The key part is Stealth in that deck and you will see that you will keep struggling against Mech Rogue in some matchups even it is nerfed after the patch.

  • Solid Alibi and Lab Constructor to Be Nerfed Tomorrow

Solid Alibi wasn't a big problem until mage was given burst damage with Sif. I think this is a quality of life nerf. I have played Sif mage and it cannot be fun to play against. I've had games with 3 Solid Alibis into a Sif otk.

I think Lab Constructor is also a quality of life nerf. Mech rogue doesn't seem overly strong to me, but it either snowballs out of control and wins or never gets on board and loses. The latter feels awful for the mech rogue player, the former feels awful for the opponent. I am not a fan of high-roll/snowball decks like that. They so often feel decided by luck of the draw.
