It may be what eventually kill off the mode, much like how classic ended. The fact is that hearthstone is unlike your typical live service game in that you cant just drop it and come back later without repercussions so the game only ever gets increasingly more expensive not cheaper. Team5 must have banked on the possibility of players just paying for ready made decks, play a couple of games, then never returning but even the least conscientious would likely be wise to the idea of spending 20 bucks on those things.
Personally creating twist sets is an instant turn off, because having already spent 80 packs only to get a grand total of 3 legendaries the game is already infuriating as it is without yet more investment. Wouldnt be too surprised if bronze is filled with blizz bots by the end of next year.
What kills me is that even if the Splitter dies to a minion when attacked, it won't count it as that... it will default to the spell. Which is why that needs to be nerfed/erratae
As for the new caverns of time set, Im only in support of it if its free, but I highly doubt that its completely free. You'll need to open packs for the new cards Im sure, and Im not 100% certain theyve made the right choice here. Its already hard enough you need to open wild packs for this mode, now you got to buy very specific packs for that mode only too?
The new event rewards include Caverns of Time packs, so that confirms it.
It's not so bad for me as I only dust Wild cards as they get nerfed, so I'll probably start out with over half the set pre-collected, as 3/4rd of the set is reworked cards but I don't have a full Wild collection. However, for people without a Wild collection, playing Caverns of Time will not be cheap. The Caverns of Time cards will be playable in Wild though, so it's not worse than buying Wild packs, probably slightly better because a larger percentage of the cards will be actually usable in decks (there are a lot of unplayable cards in Wild sets).
It seems the business strategy for Hearthstone is to get more money out of the existing player base, with expensive cosmetics (diamond and signature cards) and more modes. I don't know how sustainable that is though, as it does increase the barrier for new and returning players (the modes more so than the cosmetics), so it might create a feedback cycle where ever more money is expected to come from an ever dwindling player base.
Cthun Druid incoming? A single Juicy Psychmelon will now be able to pull Cthun at 8 mana, Aviana at 9 mana, and Kun at 10 mana. Pair those with Brann and Zola for some hilarious shenanigans!
In my opinion move with Twist is exactly what needed Wild. I dont understand how at all wild can be balanced. On one hand it is very sad that we lose all our cards once rotation happens, but... in general standard is the place where new stuffs happens. What I dont like in wild that it is what I had played before and it is one big mess. While twist at the same time use you old cards, but keep it to some power level and combination through few years, not all possible imba cards in hearthstone. Which actually is what wild is needing. Will I play twist, most likely no, because anyway I preffer to play latest and newest cards, not something which I had played already long time ago. Thats why I didnt like classic, even if I never played that meta, but it was old and boring classic set. Recent expansions are much better, than first ones.
They should've just called this a twist set which it really is. I guess Cthun will be more fun to play now but that's about it. We all know this was made so twist becomes profitable because premade decks won't bring much money.
I agree with you here, this is all about Twist. Caverns of Time is a Twist Expansion in disguise of Wild Expansion and all balance changes will be related to that. It is probably a marketing move to be able to say "hey wild players ! look ! We don't forget you ! "
But it is the truth time now. Wild players left to the dust once again.
BUT, there is another sad truth Wild players need to face, including me. Card games do rotations just for that, balancing difficulties. They just don't want to balance things for Wild already. It consumes time and man power for them which they can use it for standard and release new stuff or modes like Twist.
I am pissed off a lot, but if i need to say honestly, it is understandable for a point. They are released a new mode and now they want to make it work and the mod is more awaited one than merceneries. Of course they will release stuff and balance cards for that mode but honestly, This marketing style makes it disgusting for me. Why just can't they say balance for Twist ? I don't even think that single thing changes for wild.
I always wanted a mode with rotation of old expansions. Twist is a mode for me probably but it shouldn't have its own expansions in my opinion. This whole move is understandable but is just a joke.
I usually am a very positive person but these "Wild" changes leave me disappointed af. No hype whatsoever for the buffed cards and the new stuff here.
Why? Well, good luck playing C'Thun decks against Tony Druid, Big Priest, Mech Paladin, Secret Mage and Frog Shaman. We have been waiting for months for them to address the problematic cards in Wild and got nothing. Nothing at all.
All the buffs coincidentally hit cards that are viable in the new Twist rotation. So yeah, this is all about Twist, Wild is left on its own once more.
And for all the people who want to tell me that we haven't seen the new cards for Wild yet and that they might change the meta, I have two questions: How high are the chances that happens? And if something is shipped that is more powerful than the current big bads, wouldn't that mean it is problematic on its own?
Wild needs nerfs for Yogg's sake!! Reliable OTKs on turn 4/5 are not OK, Big Priest has been cringe for years, draw your whole deck and vomit stats on turn 3 is not fun. How hard is it to acknowledge this and act upon it?
Yeah, that's weird one. It's fun to see cards that never saw play or stopped being played long ago being buffed, but Kabal Crystal Runner is currently being played. Not only that, it's a prime example of mana cheating feeling unfair.
Without a doubt the biggest nerf here is to chad thaddius. Which is sad for all those unfortunately warlock mains who had to craft all those legendaries because with this nerf it would appear the whole deck may as well just be dead. Could it be that it is a buff in disguise? You can realistically play your entire hand now, assuming you've build the deck correctly. Maybe there's something else to this supposed 'nerf'.
As for the others, Hollow Hound gets a small slap at the wrist, while Costumed Singer gets marginally weaker but overall still functions exactly the same. 2 health reduction is big, but if hunter still heals back at the end its still performing that function, and it doesnt really change how the minion is played anyway.
No nerf to drum druid? A surprise. Its one of those polarizing decks that is infuriating to play against and no doubt as infuriating to play. Its almost like we're flipping coins to decide the winner. Play drum by turn 7 and win, your opponent removes your board and you lose.
In my opinion to fix hunter, the most problematic card is Star Power. In general this is very stupid card. 15 damage on the board for 5 mana. This means that no midrange deck can beat hunter, cos whole board is just cleared with either hound or this. But imo hound is much better card and it came on turn 6.
Star power gets lots of hate because its so efficient as a board clear.
But hearthstone in 2023 doesnt end simply with a board clear. In most cases you'll easily be able to reload again. Getting double krushed however is 90% of the time going to win you the game. The other 10% is you somehow win from chip damage and then the single krush is enough.
It already is working as the card description. If you don't attack with Fate Splitter, it dies to From De Other Side. At least it was my experience, i didn't try or see that if it keeps giving a copy of From De Other Side if you trade with Fate Splitter.
I sincerely hope that this isn't the long awaited Wild-focused patch we were promised cause wow does it feel out of touch. Have the people designing the Wild changes actually played Wild recently? In what universe is C'Thun, even with all these minor buffs, even remotely a consideration? Who in their right mind is even going to experiment with the Grimy Goons cards for Hunter and Warrior in the current meta? Or with Jades, outside of Jade Druid playing Jade Idol to avoid fatigue? Even with things as they are currently these changes would bring no new decks into the meta. But it's worse. Cause they also buffed several of the most oppressive decks in the format at the same time. Secret Mage is getting a buff on one of its most annoying cards, Shadow Priest is getting a buff on Shadowbomber, like it needed that, Even Shaman is getting a new option in Tuskarr Totemic, so that's a totem along with a 3/2 for early board presence, Small-Time Buccaneer is likely joining the Pirate Rogue roster. So all the aggressive decks are getting buffed for some insane reason. And here we are with Grimy Goons or Beast Druid cards stuck in our hand. The newly added cards would have to be absolutely gamechanging for these "returning" playstyles to be anything other than free wins for the opponent. And they only have 31 cards to do it because the 3 they showcased here don't do anything useful.
As for the Battlegrounds changes, I get the same feeling. When the last big minion dump came in with the tribe overhaul it was very exciting, almost every tribe was getting a whole new playstyle to work with. But this feels like changes for the sake of changes with no clear goal in mind. Like, how are Dragons going to be playable when Nadina the Red is leaving the pool for endgame and Tarecgosa + Promo Drake is leaving the pool for midgame? They're not actually getting anything good to replace what they're losing. Razorgore doesn't count, he's been here with Nadina for a long time. And what in the world is Niuzao supposed to do for Beasts when the only playstyle they have is tokenbuffing? There's no stats to be had on it. You're not gonna play it in Murlocs with Bassgill, not when you'll have a big Bream Counter in hand since tier 4. If you're instead supposed to include Bassgill in beasts for Niuzao to get buffed by Banana Slamma, then you have a tier 6 for beasts that only does anything when Murlocs are in the game. Huh? No other tier 6 is this conditional. They've also entirely killed any hope of Menagerie maybe making a comeback cause without Lightfang there's nothing to work with. Single minion stacking with Mythrax has been dead for a long time. The removal of Menagerie makes Niuzao even more questionable cause now it's not even useful as a pseudo cleave for that. They should have buffed Lightfang if they wanted Menagerie to stay, instead they removed it entirely.
I wasn't expecting a big Battlegrounds shakeup to begin with and even then I'm kinda disappointed by it. I was expecting a major Wild shakeup this expansion, and if this is it, then disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it.
listen my balls are swollen like grapefruits from this news and im very excited
but who the fuck let iksar back into the office to make Kabal Crystal Runner a 6/5? this deck already ruins my games brother this is the last card that needed a buff
But honestly, if you push King Krush off core, hound hunter will drastically weaken. Its really krush that wins most games for them.
Granted Krush is the one batting clean up... the qualm is that hound is able to be tutored or copied and then buffed with things like Always a Bigger Jormungar to board wipe and recover gross amount of life lost. In this case I don't think it's the hammer that ends up winning the game, it's all the other nails holding the coffin door down leading up to it.
