Many people probably don't share this sentiment, but I think there are enough cardbacks of cakes and cupcakes and other pastry stuff (also probably because I don't have much of a sweet tooth). Personally, I'd instead like to see more savoury-themed cardbacks like the pizza one. How about a pasta themed one? Or even one that references Chef Nomi's "roast"?
mobalytics, meta stats, region data. It's the only way to get to see top played lists, otherwise it's by winrate and the playrates are about 1 percent.
After hitting legend earlier today with a 7 game win streak, I continued later on with another 5 games in a row and nabbed the 12-wins-in-a-row achievement. I have to admit, Ramp Paladin is not only really strong but actually pretty easy to pilot. I've never used a deck tracker. The deck has 9 murlocs (no amalgams), so it isn't hard to use Alura and Tip the Scales for maximum value. I think the toughest decisions you have to make are whether or not to jam Nozdormu when you get him on curve. This requires anticipating your opponent's game plan, reading their hand, and evaluating your own. If your opponent could easily avoid killing your Redscale Dragontamer and chooses to kill it, watch out. They WANT you to play Nozdormu.
I really appreciate all the support from folks here, it really motivated me to keep at it. For those of you who have never made it to legend and dream of doing so, you can do it! The advice on this thread here is solid. I think the most important thing is to choose a deck that is strong in the current meta AND you enjoy playing, and then make sure you're in the right frame of mind. It's a game, and should be fun!
Laboresangre also has a spicy aggro scimitar list which he took to pretty high legend. Corbett played it on one of his videos too I think. Also would've loved to see mill Rogue on this list hehe. Great article as usual!
Also if you find Hearthstone to be more fun than Runeterra then you should played it instead, I mean the whole point of these online card games is to have fun, no one is gonna force to play a game that frustrates you.
It only become frustrating when the community can only hard defend all the time like with go hard or alot of other cards. I atleast liked cursedparrot explaining in depth why atleast cards like witch need to stay invisible that'll open for conversation what i think that can even change that for the better, not "uh no" conversations. I left my criticism because I thought the game could do better, i atleast give a explanation what else i would like to see because again its a bland mechanic and ppl saying its a bland game is not just a "few" ppl, alot of ppl bashed the game despite the brand name of league of legends and went back to hearthstone.
I can certainly see that, that's why I think the rankings are fluid. Surprisingly enough I kept running into Priests with Mind Tether at 7-8 wins and above lately. Not something I would've expected. I've seen Paladins do pretty well, but then early Royal Greatsword often makes or breaks the game for most builds.
I did some quick maths after the last changes to the Tavern Pass and concluded that, in a 19 week time span (assuming each month was around 4,5 weeks and giving an extra week because the expansion released earlier than usual), I reached a total of 11300G for the expansion, which is a bit of an upgrade to your "personal highscore being over 10k gold saved up".
However, the Tavern Pass is not perfect. As stated before, the first 50 levels are insanely grindy (even when considering suddenly having +300G does feel good, the grind doesn't [they did reduce the XP amount on later levels, though]). Achievements are a nice bonus, but they're not amazing. Sure, some of them are mostly a puzzle that can be solved in few games, but some others are brutally hard and boring to complete (looking at you, summon 200 Greyboughs and play 500 Corrupted cards). There's also the fact that you can't complete those achievements in casual (which Dean Ayala believes is the right approach, for some reason), which is very frustrating because some achievements involve bringing terrible decks to ranked and know you'll have an abysmal winrate for a while.
Also, there have been a couple of posts in which the devs made about events that include XP for catching up, but we've seen none so far (though those should just arrive closer to the end of the expansion cycle, as they're being treated as a catch-up mechanic rather than extra XP for us).
Thanks for the info, this is much more encouraging now.
If you don't mind me asking, given that I started playing again today and managed to get to level 14 on the pass so far (mainly through quests and a few random achievements), do you think it is possible to still get to at least lvl 50 before the next expansion (without accounting for any potential events that would make it easier)?
Highly unlikely. Assuming the next expansion is released by the end of March, that's in around 6 weeks. 6 weeks worth of XP (assuming 1 hour of play every day and no achievements whatsoever) should be around 96k XP. Since you're at level 14, you should have a total of at least 13,2k XP. Adding those two numbers, you'll end up at around level 39, just shy of level 40 (by around 1k XP). If you get to level 40 (by adding just a couple of achievements and excluding rewards from levels 1 through 14), you'll get 2750 G, 5 packs, 1 legendary and 1 ticket to arena/duels. It's not a lot of resources, but it's something.
EDIT: Oh wow, I really misinterpreted that text when the Battle Pass changes were announced, @Suchti0352. Yeah, I guess catch up XP is likely off the table, then.

They already announced that the next reward track will be twice as long while keeping the total required XP to give you the rewards more frequently. As for the event XP:
"We’ve heard your feedback: higher levels of the reward track just take too much XP to reach. We originally included event reward XP when calculating our intended cadence of rewards. We’ve rethought this and recognize that the rewards track should stand on its own and not require event XP bonuses, making rewards predictable and consistent across an expansion. We will still have in-game events, of course, but they will remain consistent with our existing approach to event rewards instead of rewarding bonus XP for the rewards track.
We’re reducing the requirements of the current rewards track by a total of 37,000 XP (nearly 20%), which will make mid-to-late levels easier to reach and adjust for the absence of XP events"

I think it's possible, but it'll be tight.
All the levels from 36 - 50 take 5000 XP a piece. That's the bottleneck. The average daily quest is 1000 XP, while every batch of weeklies is exactly 6000 XP. So, you can make about 11,000 XP a week on quests alone. You have maybe nine weeks until the next expansion if it's on the usual schedule. You need about 144,200 XP to make it. If you have the Tavern Pass, you get more XP, so it might be just barely obtainable.
If the expansion comes out a month early like Darkmoon did, there's literally no way.
that sucks I guess. Do we know if the lvl 50 free hero portraits will be the same for the next pass or are these a one time thing? Because that's the only thing I really thought about anyways.
Either way, if they haven't done an event yet then I might still have a chance anyways.

Having bought Darkmoon packs with gold until I was down to 2K, as well as paid another 2000 gold for Darkmoon Races, I'm currently just shy of 10K. Playing normally, I'd usually spend down to 2K and earn to ~8K by the next expansion. And there's still a month and a half left to go this season. I'd say this is a major improvement.
You said it yourself fun is a subjective criteria, balance isn't, as long as the mechanic or card doesn't dominate the game there is no need for a rework. I for myself don't find burn decks fun to play with or against but as long as they exist in a balance stat I am fine with them being in the game.
But I also said if there is enough vocal output then it shouldn't be ignored. The topic of elusives isn't new and after on and off from this game I always find atleast a few ppl wanting a change to it. Balance and fun are BOTH important to a game. I say it fair criticism and whether the devs decide to listen to it or not is on them but I still say hearthstone stealth or even shadowverse ambush mechanic is a much better design than elusive. It stall the game, it make it im forced certain staple cards, other mechanics actually feel like part of a deck but elusive is there for the sake of being elusive. w/e tho ill just jump back to hearthstone then like everyone else.
I agree that if majority of the player base finds a mechanic frustrating then the devs need to change it. That being said I haven't seen the community complain about elusive since the beta. You can't expect the devs to rework something because, in your own words " I always find atleast a few ppl wanting a change to it".
Also if you find Hearthstone to be more fun than Runeterra then you should played it instead, I mean the whole point of these online card games is to have fun, no one is gonna force to play a game that frustrates you.

Lot's of cool ideas here. Lab of legends have been the most fun lab for me and I wouldn't mind seeing it expanded and turned into a permanent game mod.

Minuano like i said before it doesnt matter if there is or not any answers to them, its how they function that makes it feel un fun to play with or against. balance is important but so many developers keep forgetting to ask is it fun (yes i get its subjective but if a decent chunk of ppl are vocal about then there is an obvious need to review). i said cards like the flight or fizz is exactly how they should function, 1 time use like other card games did but similar mechanics were already hated but now its worse feeling now that it can last the whole game. im not asking for a nerf im asking for a rework, again stat boost, bonus mechanic, new support cards, ANYTHING ELSE but the factor they stay invisible. its the one single mechanic that makes me question playing at all, ive been lenient with some broken cards before but alot of them gave funny moments and eventual fixes but elusives need a whole in depth look.

The most popular lists right now
I was asking mostly because there is a site that reports the previous week, based on both winrate AND playrate. https://www.lorguardian.com/app/decks-library
If we sort for popularity on that site, the top played decks, in descending order are (rounding off some numbers):
1. Fiora Shen - 62% WR, 6% playrate
2. Anivia control (misnamed as having endure in there, when it doesn't) - 55% WR, 6% playrate
3. Discard Aggro - 60.5% WR, 5% playrate
4. TF/Fizz - 55% WR, 5% playrate
5. Go Hard - 59% WR, 3% playrate
6. Pirate Aggro - 58% WR, 2.5% playrate
7. TF/Aphelios - 56.5% WR, 2.5% playrate
8. Ez/Draven - 60.5% WR, 2% playrate
The rest after that are less than 2% playrate.
