Immediately read that classic HS was a thing and got ecstatic to finally play 5 mana auctioneer again. Makes me wonder if they are ever going to do nerfs/buffs for it encase ramp druid, miracle rogue or zoo just become too dominant.
You mean to tell me, that I've been holding onto Classic packs for no GODDAMN REASON?!?!?!
I mean, this is still great news! I'm loving it. But why have I been dealing with this little read notification on my pack opening button if there was no point to it?!?!
Again, very happy about the news, but also pissed... LOL
I could get behind Thalyssra for some Nightborne representation. Maybe Aegwynn, except that she hasn't been mentioned at all in HS, really.
The rest of these don't seem all that iconic to me, just people who happen to use magic. There are existing Legendary Mage cards that have been more impactful than some of these people, and others (like Azshara) should be tied to an expansion.
But I'd honestly rather see Hearthstone develop its own characters and not continually borrow from WoW.
Hey, just chiming in to wish you the best of luck, and to offer some generic advice that has rung tru(est) for me. I've made legend in standard and wild a few times, and these are some of the things I found most helpful (which I had read many times from various sources before I got to legend the first time).
1) I don't personally use a deck tracker, but it's good to be at least cognizant of your win rate with a deck over the medium to long term. It's good to know if something isn't working, but conversely, it's reassuring to know that a deck is inherently good enough to get to legend. It's been said many times that getting to legend is a grind (and it is, for many) but all you need is enough time invested with a deck that you can pilot with a 50%+ win rate. Knowing that you CAN get there with a given deck is important. Even without the aid of a deck tracker, it's good to keep a mental note of your win-rate.
2) Play a deck you love. When I have made legend, I have known the deck(s) inside and out. Only after playing a ton with something do you learn a) how to mulligan, b) how to beat other decks with it, and c) what your outs are every turn. This leads into a related point:
3) Generally don't switch up decks too much during the climb. Sticking with something reinforces the things you learn/improve upon in point #2.
4) I personally don't get tilted (after all, it's just a game :) ), but lots of wise people suggest taking a break if you go on a losing streak or feel discouraged.
5) (EDIT) I just thought of something else, which helps with point #4 a lot - understand that there are some things in Hearthstone that you can't control. Sometimes your opponent just draws the nuts (or you draw absolute garbage for 6 turns) or someone wins with the top-deck Fireball. Or something bonkers happens off a randomly generated card. Also, some matchups are just unfavorable and probably are lost before much play has occurred (not always the case). Don't be discouraged by things you can't control, just recognize it when it happens and don't let it contribute to frustration.
All the very best in your climb! I will be so happy to hear about your successes in the coming days/weeks. Enjoy the journey!
I really like this write up. I enjoy playing Warrior, but finding a deck that resonates with me has always been difficult. THIS may be something I can play for the time until the rotation. Great write up!~
I don't like the idea of guilds since it complicates the game a lot. I like how casual Hearthstone is and I don't think adding a whole new layer to the game would be worth it.
Hey Pez, I´m just here wishing you luck! I´ve never reached Legend before aswell, my closest call was D1 3 stars - went all the way back to D4. Now I kinda lost motivation, this month I´m barely playing (Bronze 3 I think?). But seeing how close you are this early in month, I´m sure you can make it! I can´t give you advices but my fingers are crossed for you, keep us updated!
If Acherus and School can replace the word Scheme, then the names of cards are not necessary to solve this. Everything changed except the group of letters "CH" and its position in the word (always the 2. and 3. letter.).
In the Xaril-Xanesh-Xavius example, the letter "a" which is second in each word is literally just a coincidence. The only HS cards with words that start with "x" are Xaril, Xanesh and Xavius, so there's no way to tell that it's a coincidence without a different example - which is why I asked about Acherus Veteran.
So what does this mean? I'm guessing the position of the letters is the key to solve this, but I've got nothing so far.
I love Control Warlock as an archetype (just check my deck history lmao), and I like the direction you took this list in. There are three points in which I see room for improvement:
Plague of Flames. This card is great, but I don't feel like you have enough weenies to sacrifice, and I doubt you need more removal.
Siphon Soul. This card just isn't very good, I feel like we have plenty of removal with Cascading Disaster, Twisting Nether, etc. This would open up two more spots, which leads me into the following point:
Free Admission. You already mentioned this in your guide: It feels really bad if you hit Y'Shaarj, the Defiler. I think it's not worth running Free Admission with non-demons in your deck, which means you can go into two directions:
I've been playing since Naxxramas, and used to reach Rank 3 before the ladder revamp. I've made it to Diamond 4 a couple times (where I am now). I'm feeling pretty good about my chances for a first time Legend this month. I got to Diamond mostly playing Ramp Paladin, then switched to this greedy control warlock and have been doing well and having fun. I teach high school, and have vacation coming up next week, so more time to grind. I would love some support from this awesome community.
I would love suggestions on the deck itself, if you have any to offer.
If anyone wants to add me in game and spectate, it could be fun and helpful. I'm currently Diamond 4 Standard.
I tend to beat aggro either by a landslide when I get my good early game stuff and draw lots of Soul Fragments, or by a super thin margin, which is very exciting. I hold up well against most control decks. Ramp Paladin with Alura on curve kills me every time, but what can you do.
Send me positive vibes, Out of Cards! I'm on my way!
To be entirely honest I am no fan of the guilds idea. I entirely agree to Crusader2010 and his post.
Some additional thoughts:
2 vs 2 battles sounds fun but opens up a host of new problems; the UI would need to be significantly redesigned for this
Raids sound fun too but again the game would probably need to be signifcantly redesigned to implement this properly
Rewards are a sensible topic, you really can't give gold or exp in my opinion, cosmetics would be ok but might be too little to justify the concept
Introducing an entirely new layer of competion and rivalry might not fit the casual approach HS stands for
The bottom line is that guilds do not really fit into HS right now, nor can it easily be implemented. What I kind of like is the raids idea but I would not tie it to the guilds concept. Two quick ideas that come to my mind are (i) some kind of world raids for the entire community (like a super boss or so) and (ii) a new "raid mode" where you can compete with others against the AI (some sort of the Pinata tavern brawl but better and with more players). But these are just quick ideas.

Thanks for the explanation :) . Totally unaware of it

She originally used Aluneth, but it began to resist her when it was time to fight Sargeras, so she set it aside and took up Atiesh.

Group Therapy! Need to blow off some steam? Mega salty? Here's the place!
I used to love Priest (back in the Dragon priest days) - was my favorite class.
Then they turned it in to a steal, res, generate almost infinite cards class. Or Raza/res priest in Wild (where I play).
I don't play the class anymore and I can't blame people for hating it.

Yep same as above - just wanted to wish you luck. I believe in you!

Thanks for the tips! I agree that Plague of Flames should go, and for exactly the reason you said. It's a holdover from when I still had Armor Vendors. I actually like Siphon Soul, as it activates Cascading Disaster (and Tickatus, if discounted by Free Admission). I also really like Y'Shaarj, the Defiler, so maybe I'll do this:
-1 Plague
-1 Siphon Soul
-2 Free Admission
+1 Strongman
+1 Sense Demons
+1 Backfire
+1 Khartut Defender

To further bamboozle your theories I’ll say that Dr. Boom's Scheme can also be replaced by Chromaggus, but not by Charged Devilsaur
