  • All The Hearthstone Cards That Will be Reverted For The New Classic Game Mode

Basic, Classic, and the Hall of Fame are all gone, and are all going to Wild under a new set called Legacy. The cards are still playable but the labels are different. In Standard, we're getting a 235 Core set of free cards which changes every year, made of various cards from previous expansions as well a handful of originals.

The only Hall of Fame card they're adding to this year's Core set is Shadowform, but they could add more later.

As for this article, it's referring to the new Classic format, which is a mode where you'll be able to play Hearthstone as it was when it first launched. So, no card nerfs or Hall of Fame rotations.

So, classic is gonna be the same deck over and over again like the game was back then? or how can they adjust it?

Classic will be played for a week or two, then it will flop harder than duels did.

Since classic rotating out, it is now safe to open all the classic packs you hoarded until now. I hope to get a few missing legendaries from my 12 packs. LOL

  • Prepping for Rotation and Classic

Might be a good idea to raise all your hero to lv.60 to get all the golden basic cards, so you can get extra dusts when they rotated out.

these changes only apply for classic mode, in wild the cards will be the same and no genn or baku on classic so even shaman will be the same.

So what does it mean that "Hall of fame goes bye" ? Are the card brought back into standard, or are they gone for both standard and wild?

I gotta hand it to them: This sounds like a great idea. It's enough to make me consider coming back to HS...

  • Prepping for Rotation and Classic

It depends on what modes you want to play:

    • in Standard, your Legacy cards are useless, since you'll get access to the ones in the Core Set whether you have them in your collection or not
    • in Wild, having Legacy cards in your collection can be useful, since they'll not all be in the Core Set all the time
    • in the new Classic format, you only get the old versions of Legacy cards if the card is in your collection

If you only play Standard, you can disenchant your Legacy cards on rotation, but you'll only get the disenchant value, not the full craft value. However, if you do this for all your Legacy cards, it can still be a large pile of dust. Only do this though if you're very sure you only ever want to play Standard: as Duels has shown, there might be new game modes that make use of cards outside of Standard.

For opening Classic packs, if you only care about Standard, it doesn't matter when you open them. But if you care about other formats or modes, you might be better off holding on to them until rotation, since hall-of-famed cards like Ragnaros, Sylvanas and Leeroy should be returning to Classic packs.

  • My Little Rant on Hearthstone

How do you define "viable"? In my opinion, Hearthstone these days has a lot of decks that are viable, in the sense that they allow you to climb the ladder if played well. This wasn't always the case, but recent sets have more playable cards and Blizzard is much quicker to perform balance changes.

I do agree that the economy is still not good: the drop rate of epics and legendaries is quite low and the crafting cost when you don't get the one you want is very high. They have taken important steps improve other aspects of the economy, such as extending the duplicate protection and now the new free core set, but the high cost of epics and legendaries remains a problem.

We do not get dust. The same as before with all cards that are just rotating to Wild. I don't see why we should get dust.

I highly doubt that Captain's Parrot, ETC and Gelbin would be added to Classic packs. They've been craft only ever since the the Pirates quest was removed for Parrot, and since their promo releases for the other two, and I don't see that changing.

I am confused? Why did you swap ramp pally, which is the best deck in the format for something as mediocre like control warlock? I am not surprised you fell down the ladder again.

You should consult vicious syndicate for the best deck in your ranking segment.

Just play the most broken deck and try to optimize your decision making. This should take you to legend in no time.

It depends: if he is facing a lot of aggro decks then Warlock would be a better choice because Ramp Paladin gets absolutely bodied if it does not draw Allura otherwise. Also, enjoying the deck you are playing is probably the most important part! Why play a game if not to have fun?

To OP: In terms of deck, you have a lot of Soul Fragment cards, I think Soulciologist would fit right in as a way to corrupt Tickatus and be a value/control tool. Also, there is a clear anti-synergy between Quests and Soul Fragments, so I wonder if that’s anything to consider. Anyway, I’m rooting for you to hit legend!

I fully expect this to work like WoW Classic down the line, though doing queues by era would also be cool.

Naxxramas will get added to the pool of cards, and then Goblins vs Gnomes (or both together, but I doubt it). It would give them a chance to legitimately sell the older content to a new audience for minimal dev time which makes it an amazing return on investment.

What I think is most interesting about that though is what it would mean for down the line of Classic. Hear me out.

Let's say Blizzard continues on and rereleases each expansion into Classic Hearthstone - and maybe the original base always remains playable still and they just call each addition "Year of the Blah" - what if they did so without ever rebalancing cards. So that Undertaker nerf? Yeah, it would never be added into the game. It would be another divergence of the Hearthstone timeline, and a damn cool one at that.

Ultimately, I just want to see a rotation, like you said. What they should do is make the rotation that is active in Arena also be active in Duels and then in this new constructed ladder. That way it limits confusion, the newest set will always be playable, and it will give us a chance to see old cards in really weird constructed scenarios. I still love the idea of Classic, and will certainly go play it, but yeah, staying power is questionable.

Ramp Pally is super good and super fun. I may switch back to it. Like I said above, I switched to warlock because I wanted to have fun with Rustwix, and that got me from Diamond 10 to 4, so it's definitely competitive.

The one thing I absolutely don't want to do is try to get to Legend playing a deck I don't enjoy. I think Riffraff made a great point about that.

    I think you missed Preparation.

  • All The Hearthstone Cards That Will be Reverted For The New Classic Game Mode

While I think this will be a fun treat for awhile, won't the meta for Classic get solved and stale rather quickly? I'm happy to have the feature as they said this isn't the new game mode, but I'm much more hyped for the new Core set.

Something that I'm sure is too complicated for them to do would be to be able to have different patches matchup against each other. Allow opposing players to have different card restrictions. Basically, how do the best classic decks match-up against current Standard. Shadowstep Leeroy Rogue vs. the current aggro Rogue meta. And then pick a few other points in time when the meta and nerfs were fundamentally different from each other. How do jade decks from Year of the Kracken match-up against the top decks from Year of the Raven. It wouldn't just be wild because you wouldn't have access to all cards for deckbuilding, just those from that patch era.

At the very least I hope they start doing some kind of rotation with Wild. There are so many possibilities with restricted sets and cards even without different patch versions of cards. This would also mean they don't need to nerf or balance Wild, just rotate cards to keep it fresh.

Celestalon said on Twitter that Illidan will be for Classic, Xavius for Standard and Wild.

  • Prepping for Rotation and Classic

    Hey everyone,

With the recent announcement, anyone care to share any tidbits or some nice-to-know info?

    My take-aways from the announcements:

    • Unlike Hall of Fame, no dust for cards that will rotate out of the core set. (I really regret holding onto Edwin)
    • No point in holding unto classic packs since the new core set will be free

**Disclaimer: this is just my understanding, so I may be wrong or have misunderstood.

  • Hearthstone's New Completely Free Core Set Will Have 235 Cards - Basic & Classic Move to Wild, New Classic Format

Did I understand correctly, we will not get any dust for any cards that are in classic but rotate out, right? (example: Edwin)

Also, there's no point to holding unto classic packs right?

  • Hearthstone's New Completely Free Core Set Will Have 235 Cards - Basic & Classic Move to Wild, New Classic Format

    And my first question was:

Are you changing the pool of cards Zephrys the Great pulls from?

    • No. Zephrys the Great is rotating to Wild with Saviors of Uldum and will still pull from the same Basic and Classic cards that are now part of the Legacy set.

    Thank the Maker!

Not to mention Preparation, Cold Blood, Flare, Equality, and Blade Flurry being fine in their original designs/costs but flawed as evergreen cards.

  • Hearthstone's New Completely Free Core Set Will Have 235 Cards - Basic & Classic Move to Wild, New Classic Format

As an almost exclusively Wild player, I'm confused why they're reverting all the OG cards for the sake of a Classic format, but not changing cards for Wild. I don't see Classic lasting as a format for a lot of people, it seems gimmicky. A lot of those pre-nerfed cards would be totally fine and actually pretty good for the Wild format. Mana Wyrm would bring back Tempo Mage, Wild Growth is currently power creeped anyway, Leper Gnome and Abusive Sergeant would give some traditional aggro strategies a lot of support, Keeper of the Grove is obsolete next to Spellbreaker, Big Game Hunter is often a tempo loss at 5 mana, Force of Nature is honestly unplayable, Warsong Commander would be fine considering Warrior has stronger archetypes than Patron Warrior now, Power Word: Shield is next to useless, etc.
