  • New Neutral Minion - Darkmoon Statue

Token druid and aggro pally would love this card. Basically buffs your board's attack and allow for some trades. You'll probably be busy building a board the first 3 turns anyway.

I don't really rate the +4 attack too highly honestly. It's job is to buff, and act as a soft taunt. If you can corrupt it then its strong, but otherwise, its still going to do what you intended it to do anyway.

  • Holding Out For A Hero - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

    Quote From grumpymonk

Gee, making hero cards is hard! I have two, one a bit more conventional and one that's a little out there.  Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Alexstraza, Life-Binder is pretty straightforward - good for spell druid, both tempo and big, as well as some heal druid support.  The battlecry is very powerful, so it might have to go down to 2 spells, even if the hero power is not so strong.

I'm not sure about this one balance wise, but I like the idea and flavor.  I wanted to try some more risky designs since I feel like I've been playing it safe a little this season.  Cursed! already exists, while the other two are new. I like how the hero power accumulates value over time, giving your opponent a choice between losing tempo or becoming overwhelmed after a few turns.

Edit: Looks like its 4 cards total, not 4 extra cards allowed.  I'll probably drop Hexed! if I go with Cho'gall.

    Feedback:

    Show Spoiler

BloodMefist - I like the gauntlet with the Arch-Villainy ability from an art and gameplay perspective.  On second thought, wouldn't it be better to transform/discard the lowest cost card instead of the highest?  Unless you're running a discard-specific build, you would just be as likely to lose value as gaining it.  Maybe that's the point, which is why the hero power is so cheap.

Wailor - Could the tokens have both taunt and rush?  It might have to make the cost bumped to 8.  Not really a fan of the three tokens with three different abilities to be honest.

MenacingBagel - There's some missing capitalization: health, mana, and crystals are all capitalized, and I don't understand why this didn't cost 3 mana instead of 6 and refreshing 3 mana crystals.  I like how well the card fits with the boss encounter and that it's niche enough so that only certain decks would want to run it, which helps with the potential problem of a neutral hero card homogenizing decks.  I really don't think a neutral hero card is much of a leap. [Hearthstone Card (Majaordomo Executus) Not Found] already exists and is basically a neutral hero card.

DavnanKillder - I like it.  Not sure is playable in necessary in the hero power text, as the game is set up not to offer secrets that you already have on the battlefield.

Dreams - The changes you offered seem pretty cool.  Given that there aren't that many divine shield minons in the game, I think the hero power could be more impactful towards the battlefield instead of the enemy hero.  May I suggest some sort of AOE effect? How about "after a friendly minion loses divine shield, deal 1 (or 2) damage to all enemies (or enemy minions).

Demonxz95 - The best I could think of for the hero power is "After your hero first attacks a minion each turn, it may attack again."  Essentially two attacks per turn, but only the hero once.  It might be a little too weak though.

shaveyou - The weapon might be a little too strong, but I like the idea and pirate support.

fungusABao - I like both of them, but the warrior would work better if was repesented by a different character.  Grace of the God  should say 'characters' instead of 'character' and 'your' in the Howling hero power should be capitialized.

KANSAS - I really like it. No issues from me.

linkblade91 - I agree with BloodMefist that +2/+1 would be better, as it would affect every minion you play for the rest of the game.

TheHoax91 - Very creative and interesting!  I can't speak for balance, but I like it how it helps the discard warlock archetype by allowing it to include minions normally be there because of the potential value lost.

Alexstraza is a great hero card probably my favorite here so far hope you win because I give up on this lol

  • New Neutral Minion - Darkmoon Dirigible

Powercreep on Scarlet Crusader but its likely that it will not see any play outside of arena, where it will be king.

The main problem is that you'd have to play a 4 mana card to activate the rush, and since rush is often seen as a removal on demand card, its likely just too slow to do anything. Had the divine shield be the description gained instead of rush, it would've been decent. Otherwise, its just inconsistent at best, bricking your hand at worst.

  • New Neutral Minion - Banana Vendor

There's just no real way to evaluate a card like this since it also gives out stuff to your opponent. We make light of the bananas but these stuff can be real mean when played correctly.

Mage and priest would love it right away. Its use will depend entirely on what the meta looks like. If druid ends up on top again, then this card will nearly never be played. But if we have a meta similar to this one currently, then I don't see much downsides giving opponent bananas, especially if you can use it better.

  • New Neutral Minion - Circus Medic

Very strong and flexible card that can heal when against aggro and deal damage when against everything else.

Reminds me of Shroom Brewer, who was played solely for the 4 heal. This one does that and can potentially be even better. I expect to see more of this card in ranked, maybe in rogue and warlock the most.

Wish it were also a taunt. But then it would be completely broken wouldn't it?

  • New Neutral Minion - Fantastic Firebird

Its arena stuff. But it has an elemental tag, so maybe?

    Nah.

  • New Neutral Minion - Knife Vendor

Its face deck stuff. I don't get why so many are not impressed with something that deals a straight 4 face damage then develops a decent body. Stealth rogue and face hunter would've played this right away.

Of course, outside of this its trash.

  • New Neutral Minion - Circus Amalgam

It has that all important 'all' tribe tag, so it will definitely be niche in nearly anything that plays a tribe deck.

Namely it can slot into murloc, totem and beast decks right away. If its bland, it makes it up by being flexible. And that alone makes this worth looking at twice.

  • New Neutral Minion - Strongman

    Quote From sense124

What about druid? they do have Cenarion Ward and they can just cheat the game by ramping.

There's definitely something. There's Guardian Animals and Survival of the Fittest

But since guardian druid is not really good anymore, and most have now transition to mountseller, the only card that can corrupt this is survival of the fittest. So it lacks consistency

I like Cenarion Ward, but I remain skeptical of its usage, mostly because Exotic Mountseller turns is still in my opinion, the best way to play druid. I might be wrong, but mountseller into yogg? I don't see why this wouldn't be the apex for druid at least for the first week.

  • New Mage Spell - Mask of C'Thun

[Hearthstone Card (Mask of C'thun[Hearthstone Card (seems like a Reno the Relicologist replacement after he rotates, but it also seems like a combo piece. Maybe Mask of C'Thun gives rise to some kind of [Hearthstone Card (Keal'thas Sunstrider) Not Found] OTK Mage deck alongside Pyroblasts, cheap spells and Sorcerer's Apprentice. Also in most situations it's an upgraded Greater Arcane Missiles.

Standard: Will see play in this Kael'thas Sunstrider OTK Mage, and maybe in control mage after Reno the Relicologist rotates.

Wild: Not sure if this sees any play. It's ODD Costed, but ODD Mage probably doesn't want this card..

Also it's quite surprising that mage got a C'thun trowback card. I would have honestly thought shaman was going to get it, because C'thun battlecry shaman is a pretty decent deck.

Edit: Actually looked into this OTK some more, and it actually seems realy hard to pull off because i think Sorcerer's Apprentice probably wont discount the 3th spell from [Hearthstone Card (Kael'that Sunstrider) Not Found]. Just like how Eye Beam doesn't get discounted to 0 mana when outcast is active with Line Hopper. It's still possible, but you need every 1 mana spell to be discounted from Incanter's Flow or Emperor Thaurissan in wild…

  • Hearthstone Patch 19.0 - Darkmoon Faire, New Duels Powers, Progression Update, Achievements, Battle Pass

You are in a drastically better situation.

Assuming you complete your dailies and weeklies--consistently--you will earn as much as the people who would grind out with aggro decks the full 100 gold a day.

From what I can gather, there is no grinding incentive in the new system. You earn XP from playing in any mode, but you ONLY earn XP. You do not earn gold every 3 wins, or an XP boost every 3 wins. You do not have to worry about pushing your participation to the absolute max in order to benefit. You could skirt by, doing the absolute minimum of completing daily quests every three days and your weekly quests every seven days, and get the same benefits as the most hardcore players.

Basically playing casual Hearthstone will net you the same rewards as hardcore grinding used to get you. Playing Hearthstone when you feel like it becomes an option, not a handicap.

Of course, all of this is from what I can gather from what has been revealed. Maybe the leveling cap is way different from what they've shown. Obviously numbers will be very different if each level takes, say, 1500 or 2000 XP, or if daily/weekly quests offer much lower amounts of XP.

But based on the preview images in Blizzard's official post, it's looking pretty generous. Check back in a day or two? We'll have more solid figures at that point.

  • Hearthstone Patch 19.0 - Darkmoon Faire, New Duels Powers, Progression Update, Achievements, Battle Pass

I'd be more curious about the time investment. Under your numbers and assuming a 100% win rate with an aggro deck (6 minute average game) you would still have to spend 3 hours a day to grind out that 150 gold per day.

  • Hearthstone Patch 19.0 - Darkmoon Faire, New Duels Powers, Progression Update, Achievements, Battle Pass

Man the left-most Jaina skin looks so cool - is there any chance we could get her in the future without investing in the Tavern Pass?

  • Hearthstone Patch 19.0 - Darkmoon Faire, New Duels Powers, Progression Update, Achievements, Battle Pass

Do you mean Warrior? or is there something I'm missing?

Edit: I understand now. You mean the one that they allow you to choose when you finish. Yeah that Rogue one is my favourite too. Not super into some of those ones, like the mage one is kind of bland.

  • New Demon Hunter Minion - Bladed Lady

    Quote From Geno9999

I'm actually hesitant on this card. Yes, it's strong, 6/6 with Rush isn't something to sneeze at, but even with everyone's best-case scenarios, this card is only coming out turns 4/3 with Coin or later. Definitely sees play in Soul Demon Hunter, possibly sees play in Aggro?

    4/5

WELP. With more weapons and attack boosts revealed, it's not hard to build a deck that can play this discounted consistently. Score revised to 5/5

  • New Priest Minion - G'huun the Blood God

Blood for the blood god... provided you didn't accidentally draw your other high-cost cards. Sure, it sounds fine to pay 9 health instead of mana for that Plague of Death, but that just means you're 9 health closer to being dead to Demon Hunter.

  • Hearthstone Patch 19.0 - Darkmoon Faire, New Duels Powers, Progression Update, Achievements, Battle Pass

    That's some awesome work there.

So what's the situation if you're more of a casual player that only does enough to complete the dailies (in the old system) and saves maybe enough gold for 20-30 packs for the new expansion?

Are people like me on average better or worse off with the new system?

  • Hearthstone Patch 19.0 - Darkmoon Faire, New Duels Powers, Progression Update, Achievements, Battle Pass

    Correct.

  • New Priest Minion - G'huun the Blood God

I’m glad that Priests aren’t even trying to hide the fact that they are straight up eldritch abominations any more. Yes, this is very good for Priest, Priest will take all the card draw they can get (unfortunately)

  • New Neutral Minion - Optimistic Ogre

5/5 stars. That brand of mindless optimism really can spread. I can't help but think this as a meta changer, a blockbuster of epic proportions. The old Gods themselves will think themselves accursed to ever ignore the ever powerful wave of positive thinking that emanates from this one card.

After all, if we can have a best selling book raving about it making millions in the process, who am I to say its just nothing more than mindless gulling of those in need of real help?

  • New Priest Minion - G'huun the Blood God

    Staff

Will probably be seen in some combos, but I'm quite unconvinced otherwise. I don't think mana is one of the things that Priests struggle with at the moment, so I don't see the effect as a massive bonus. Imagine drawing two board clears or something.

Then again, Standard Resurrect/Wall Priest might want mana-effiecient tempo swings...definitely an interesting card regardless.

  • New Neutral Minion - Strongman

What about druid? they do have Cenarion Ward and they can just cheat the game by ramping.

  • New Neutral Minion - Claw Machine

Slow, and likely can't value trade. Even the card draw effect is actually a deathrattle, so the prevalent idea is that this will not and should not survive.

The card draw with a buff is decent. But since there's no way to really tutor what you want, the impact is inconsistent at best.

Likely a hunter card. But there's better deathrattles available to be honest.

  • Hearthstone Patch 19.0 - Darkmoon Faire, New Duels Powers, Progression Update, Achievements, Battle Pass

I just want that alternate Rogue skin at the end of the track, it looks so cool.

  • New Neutral Minion - Strongman

Perhaps the strongest swing card yet. But its likely home is warlock and priest, where board clears are plenty and expensive, and this card as a follow up is just broken.

Maybe also in shaman? But I'm a little skeptical. Its just a card that will always find itself in control decks. Even on its own, its at least a taunt, so that's not really a waste of space neither.
