  • Talking About Encouraging Interaction on the Site

Encouraging interaction on the site remains tough though. We can't encourage people too much because that could lead to fatigue or it'll lead to a whole lot of nonsense. One point that has been brought up in the past with encouraging voting and commenting on new cards is that we get low-quality discussion. I both agree and disagree on that topic, something I know I've talked about a few times in the past on the forums. The main issue is how do we avoid that in general.

We have some interaction from the WCDC's, but unfortunately it's been done to death and there's an entire forum dedicated to it on reddit. The point being that it's not anything that's really new or different. By all means keep doing it but during dry seasons it seems like that's the only thing going on.

We get low quality comments on cards because most people here have played their respective games long enough to not overreact to a singular card that some may deem OP, so they don't comment at all or just say that it's "neat".

Wanting to get players to comment and vote on cards can be done is Card of the Day, since if we're trying to grow the site that's one way to get players to kind of explore pages and explore.

I can't really create a quest to go and upvote something. It might work for the forums and comments, or even news articles themselves, but asking someone to go an upvote a deck is going to cause problems. Maybe limiting something like deck voting to once a week would help, I don't know. It could also be interesting to try and establish a "new queue" for deck guides and to ask people to go through it and provide feedback. Maybe you'd have to have some form of "certification" before you would be eligible for quests like that, like having a certain post count or account age. Again, I don't know but it is something we need to tread carefully on.

Definitely don't reward people for inflating something, everyone can see on the surface level that this is a meaningless thing to do.

I do like what having the Shop and Gold will do for us though. We can give out rewards a lot more freely to people without giving out a big reward. Letting everyone save up and buy what they desire will be nice. The hard part will be having enough stuff available that people want to actively spend their gold. I have 3 additional ideas for site cosmetics/customization that we'll roll out in the new year, with one of those things coming with the Holiday event.

You could do site ran tournaments? Incentivize users to try to earn and hoard gold to apply for a tournament ticket and potentially win prizes. Probably going to be impossible because of shear man power, but hey, something to consider.

As for stuff available for the site, that's even tougher. Besides banners and profile pic borders there's not much you can do. You could have unlockable site backgrounds but I don't know how well that'd work out. What comes to mind is the current background with the symbol lines filled with color, I'm just spit ballin' here.

I also want to give all the staff a weekly amount of currency to freely give out to posts they deem appropriate. It might only be 10 or 20 Gold, but they'll have the option to give it out to decks and comments that they find meet their own special criteria. Maybe it was funny, maybe it was high quality. Having more personalized handouts adds some fun to the system, especially if people know who is giving it to them.

^ That, I also want to let some community members do too, once we figure out a solid criteria for enabling it. Maybe we'll start by giving premium members an allowance to hand out each month and see where that takes us.

Just do it for the premium members, it's another incentive to become premium.

  • Brawl of Gaudiness

Half cost you say?!?!  Dear Gaud!!!

  • Two New Hunter Cards Revealed for Hearthstone's Darkmoon Faire Expansion - Petting Zoo & Don't Feed the Animals

Petting zoo is a sleeper i think. It turns the hunter secrets people slept on because they don't activate immediately into bombs.

  • Update: Finished last season (October) at Diamond 6; I simply couldn't break into Diamond 5 or Legend despite trying. But maybe that's on me, I've been playing Hearthstone only a couple of months.

I took out the two spell slots that I kept waffling between Double Jump and Mana Burn on, and replaced them both with Wandmakers. Upon testing, it's a definite improvement. (discussed below). I also took out the Imprisoned Antean (IA) and put in a Cobalt Spellkin (CS) which is like a Super-Wandmaker.

Reasoning: At 6 Mana, IA was a little expensive. Wasn't getting a played a lot. Perhaps these bigger demons are really meant to get their full value by playing with Fel Summoner/s, Pit Lord/s, Felosophy/ies, and Raging Felscreamer/s. It was nice having this invulnerable time-bomb in the deck, to slap down on any low-pressure turn; however, against the Aggros it wasn't much help, and against the control decks that were Priest and Paladin, it was just way too easy to kill IA. Priest and Paladin have many ways to easily kill a big minion for very low mana cost.

And this deck was losing to Priests and Paladin decks the most. Don't get me wrong, it's no auto-loss, I've beat many, but I'd say they're favored in the matchup. This deck is fine against all other types, even the dreaded Bomb-Warrior. In that game, you just HAVE TO combo your Aldrachi Warblades with some big damage for big healing.

But back to the problematic Priest/Paladin matchup. The Wandmakers/CS help by: being on the board; improving hand-advantage by discovering us a card/s; that card/s is a one-cost spell so it combos great with Pen Flinger/s; but most importantly, we now get access to many Consume Magic/s or Twin Slice/s. Against the Paladin/Priests, we need more than 2 Consume Magic/s. This does that. Without Kayn Sunfury, we need more than 2 Consume Magic/s. Last, Twin Slice is really amazing, and we like as many as possible. Everything DH generally does 1 damage for every 1 mana spent. Example: Chaos Strike costs 2 and does 2 (while drawing a card); Soulshard Lapidary costs 5 and adds 5 damage (while adding a 5/5 minion to the board), Inner Demon costs 8 and does 8. But Twin Slice costs 1, and does 2, making it twice as damage-cost efficient as everything else. CS is also cheaper 1 cost cheaper than IA and gets on the board 1 turn earlier.

    Hope you enjoy.

  • Talking About Encouraging Interaction on the Site

i disagree about earning currency based on deckmaking for one reason in particular.

    This: https://outof.cards/hearthstone/decks/12417-whizbang-is-wonderful

    Or this: https://outof.cards/hearthstone/decks/8146-deathrattle-meme-rogue

People upvote decks just because they're funny not because they're well thought out, and if that's a way to earn currency it'll be pretty cancer looking at the front page with the most upvoted decks....

As for site interaction, mostly it's alright, although it is tiring how every time i try to start a discussion about a card or a deck, someone immediately pulls the big brain thing and sees the paragraph i've written explaining why i don't like the card or deck, and they just type "salt thread" without reading what i wrote and they get upvotes for it, and more people don't read what i wrote in my discussion...

For instance though, if you reward site currency in the deck spotlight posts i think that would be good, make it a system of merit rather than someone the public decides.

  • New Rogue Minion - Prize Plunderer

"Something's changed in Lotso that day"

  • Hearthstone Duels Update Coming Thursday - Treasure Adjustments, Bigglesworth Removed, Ratings Change

As someone who already enjoys playing Rogue in Duels, this is very exciting. Turn 1 hero power is nuts. Changes the tough first game matchup against mage completely. 3-mana +2/+2 on a weapon is also crazy good. Don't really care about poison, I'm swinging that boi to the face.

  • Hearthstone Duels Update Coming Thursday - Treasure Adjustments, Bigglesworth Removed, Ratings Change

Warrior has been one of my best clases so I'm surprised at the buff. Very happy with the Rogue buffs and Shaman nerf. Can't wait for full release and some more HP and starting treasure variety. Really looking forward to more details overall on Duels, Progression, Achievements, etc. I wish they would schedule those announcements along with the card reveal schedule.

  • Hammer of the Naaru is a New Paladin Card Revealed for Hearthstone's Darkmoon Faire Expansion

I would like a card that has unbudgeted confettie effects.

  • Hearthstone Battlegrounds Update Coming Thursday - Loads of Hero and Minion Updates!

I managed to work this one out after a minute of thinking about it, this has to be the most poorly worded HS card? I think just adding "your" as in "among your other minions" would help a bit.

  • Talking About Encouraging Interaction on the Site

The great Fluxflasher has made a thread with a quote from me. I never thought I would receive such an honor.

  • Brawl of Gaudiness

This was a close match, and then I drew Bloodreaver Guld'an and my opponent conceded

  • Clutch of Yogg-Saron Card Back is Now Available in the Hearthstone Shop

you can always pay $3 Kappa

  • Revenant Rascal is a New Warlock Card Revealed for Hearthstone's Darkmoon Faire Expansion

Cards that affect your opponent's turn aren't to be sniffed at but I don't think this one will be played that much.

  • New Warlock Minion - Revenant Rascal

I see the potential in zoo decks to muck up the opponents curve, it can deny mid-range or board clear plays and I have high hopes for it.  If nothing else, you can make memey annoying Warlock in standard with Chaos Gazer and Cult Neophyte

  • New Hunter Spell - Don't Feed the Animals

This isn't terrible, it could be played, there are some fearsome beasts who could be made even more fearsome.

  • Clutch of Yogg-Saron Card Back is Now Available in the Hearthstone Shop

From the beginning of the year of the kraken i get all card back

    Including this one

  • Hearthstone Battlegrounds Update Coming Thursday - Loads of Hero and Minion Updates!

I'm definitely excited to try out all these changes, but I'm a bit confused by some of the elemental nerfs. Djinni to 6 is a great change, but couldn't they have changed his stats back as well to compensate? Garr really wasn't strong at all and I actually expected them to put him in tier 5 while tuning down his stats/effect a bit. I also feel like lil rag didn't need the stat nerf at all but whatever.

    Edit with some additional thoughts:

    - I always thought this is how amalgadon should have worked, but I honestly wish they would remove it entirely. Often in the endgame matches it comes down to who has the most divine shield/poisonous amalgadons, which is not fun imo.

    - I love that they unnerfed lightfang. Menagerie has always been one of my favorite builds in battlegrounds.

    - Iron sensei often felt a bit too weak on tier 4 but I think it will be veeery strong on tier 3.

    - A lot of these hero changes are both exciting and scary at the same time. The ones that seem the scariest to me are wagtoggle, rakanishu, george, and ysera.

  • New Hunter Spell - Petting Zoo

Turn 3 '6/6' into turn 4 '7/7' is gonna be crazy hard to keep with for other classes.  Even supports Blstenheimer since its a way to get early board control without actually running cheap minions.

  • New Hunter Spell - Petting Zoo

This card isn't bad with just one secret, it's even better with more.

  • New Hunter Spell - Don't Feed the Animals

Seems meh.  Smugglers was much more flexible in its cost and application, and that still barely saw play.  With enough support this might have a chance, but I doubt it.

  • Clutch of Yogg-Saron Card Back is Now Available in the Hearthstone Shop

This was one that I missed when I had my hiatus and I was hoping that some day I'd be able to get it.  Just not crazy about using my gold to get it

  • Ring Toss is a New Mage Card Revealed for Hearthstone's Darkmoon Faire Expansion

I love the cute turtle, but the corrupted version is borderline nightmare. I don't think the card effect is bad either.

  • New Rogue Minion - Prize Plunderer

Might be useful with lackey's and it is also a pirate.

  • Hearthstone Battlegrounds Update Coming Thursday - Loads of Hero and Minion Updates!

    Quote From LostAngel1000

Soo anyone else confused by the Amalgadon change? As in what it means, as I am unsure if its just rewording the effect or something else

Now it won't count itself in the amount of times it will adapt, while it previously did.
