I don’t really see this being all too amazing to be honest, feels like one of those cards that gets really hyped up, and then only sees fringe play later on.
Other than eggs, I can’t really think of that many cards that would work that well with this one, and even with eggs it’s a bit too awkward to use it I’d think. By the time you can use an egg with it, your opponent has access to some of their bigger board clears, and you’ll no longer have your eggs as a way to resist a board clear
Thanks for your friendly reply. It's hard to put my finger on it, but what irritates me is the generality of the condition. I'm just not sold on "something has to have happened with your Health". What would you say if Warrior or Druid got a card with a condition like "If your Armor changed this turn"? Or Rogue "If your Hero equipped or destroyed a weapon this turn"?
I'll step away from this for a while and wait and see how the other dual class cards look. Maybe I'm only irritated because the card covers two oppositional ways to interact with your health which is necessary as a Warlock / Priest card.
Seems decent if only for giving discard decks more redundancy and options. Though with Silverware Golem part of the strength was having a higher health minion early on for free. 2 2/1’s really aren’t that resistant to board clears
I haven't tested out many other decks post-balance, but I'm having reasonable success with my Deep deck. As the meta slows down, the early turns become less important and if, as a Deep deck, you can survive until turn 5 or 6, you have a reasonable shot at winning by default, unless all three Maoki's are in your bottom 3 cards.
That isnt exactly ok either, given the topic of the conversation :)
Fair point! I wonder if they have the upgraded Maoki effect in their balance sights...a 4-turn 'guaranteed win' clock IS a little ridiculous, and given the synergy, it's not a total wildcard win condition either.
As a side note: Both kel'thuzads are good with reincarnate.
With this one it can be 7 mana: copy a minion and trigger its deathrattle. That's probably bad, but in a word where lightning bloom exists, could this mean something for combos?
It's worth pointing out, this doesn't say Enemy Minion, just Minion. So a) you could use it to trigger a Deathrattle if that helps you (Teron perhaps?), but b) if you have a board and your opponent doesn't, you need to sacrifice a minion or you can't play this. Or, you know, have to play it before your health changes.
Yeah the noxious 1 drop slot is largely untouched, but that should be fine. The big issue arose from having each of the noxious 2 drops combined representing around 8 damage of uninteractive burn (demolition (2), grenadier (2), crimson (4)) Now it represents 5 damage.
Its obvious its a zoo card. The real question is whether priest can share in the fun as well.
At the moment, the answer is obviously no. But tempo priest has always been near the rim of viability, so there's some hope. If nothing else, its still a 3/6 for 4, and that has to count for something.
For zoolock, the question is whether this is better than Dark Pharaoh Tekahn, and the answer is decidedly meta dependent. If control decks are on a rise, the tekahn is without a doubt just better whereas if midrange tempo is, this Disciplinarian Gandling would take the stage.
So this is basically a cheaper and more versatile version than Dark Pharaoh Tekahn, but the effect only last as long as this is on board.
The scariest thing about this card is not the 4/4 it creates but that its a 3/6 for 4, and that's sticky as hell. If this manages to survive somehow until the next turn, its basically game over assuming you build your deck around it.
Clearly this card can only fit into zoo type decks, as the normal midrange priest and warlock decks tend to have better minions than a 4/4 and this card is unlikely to survive more than 1 turn anyway. Can priest actually manage a tempo deck this time round? This card certainly helps it along if nothing else. I see some touting that it triggers deathrattles, but since the deathrattle minion actually dies, this doesn't exactly give value and might actually make it worst by removing your security against a board wipe.
I'm a little conflicted over whether this is just a good card, or completely insane. On one hand the card is clearly capable of winning games on its own, and on the other it doesn't seem like its capable of giving enough value to beat control decks, so Dark Pharaoh Tekahn always just seem like the better choice between the two.
It's also worth mentioning that Egg decks typically don't want to actually crack their own Eggs - they play them, buff them, trigger them, get lots of value off of them, and when they inevitably crack on board, you get a bonus 4/4, a 5/5 a 3/4, etc. It's possible that the new card will see play in Standard, but playing a bunch of stats in the mid-game, then passing the turn, isn't exactly a winning game-plan in Wild . . .
see...the problem is that Teron destroys Gandling...and since Gandling's effect takes place, as you pointed out, AFTER battlecries, Teron will just gobble up Gandling and stay there until he is killed.
We've already seen Teron Gorefiend make it into aggro decks with eggs and leper gnomes/kobold sandtroopers, this new legendary makes Teron's effect instant! you don't get stuck with the loss of tempo from having just a 3/4 on board. Gandling works with Battlecries too because the card's text says "after" you play a minion.
Not sure this is as good in zoo as most are thinking. Zoo wants to explode on the board. 4 mana for a 3/6 isn't that. It only lets you explode onto the board if it sticks (wishful thinking) or you play it along side a couple one drops in the mid-late game but how do you have all those 1 drops in your hand still that late as zoo. The only way I could see is if disco lock becomes a thing and you're proccing hand of guldans left and right, with the previously build spider card I guess this is possible but disco lock needs more support than that.
It's a solid card though. you might play it just for the chance it sticks. 3/6 is very good stat line for a four drop. MIght be playable but it just doesn't seem insane to me yet.
Priest probably isn't playing this. it just doesn't have the cards that make sense with it like lock does. tempo priest can already jam stupid ammounts of stats on the board in better ways. and its still a bad archtype because no card draw.
Not the same thing ofc, but very similar, as one provides initiative while the other provides stats: both aim for board dominance, and they do it at the same cost for the same body.
I haven't tested out many other decks post-balance, but I'm having reasonable success with my Deep deck. In the majority of the value deck that we will see in the future Headmaster Kel'Thuzad are going to be played for sure. Just remember that Headmaster Kel'Thuzad must survive to the magic if you want activate the spellburst effect
I really like this card and it concept. Can be strong in both heroes and can be played in different deck. Also can enable some specific combo shenanigan. Really happy with the developer
Never heard of eggs and other deathrattles like them? Priest has a couple of strong deathrattle minions like Convincing Infiltrator you can even use it with Psychopomp to turn his 3/1 body into a 4/4 while still getting it's battlecry effect. It's even better in Warlock with the new Boneweb Egg, Expired Merchant and Eager Underling.
Plenty of options in neutral cards too! Loot Hoarder get's +2/+3 and draws you a card straight away, Serpent Egg is absolutely insane as it gives you 3/4 and a 4/4 now for 2 mana! Teron Gorefiend kills all your current deathrattle minions on board and resummons them all with +1/+1 so cards like Leper Gnome and Kobold Sandtrooper could also see play with this new legendary.
I'm curious as to how it will work with dormant minions. But yeah I'd say this is a 5 star card.
