...I skipped Boomsday for Rastakhan's Rumble, which is super surprising because I had no inspiration at all for RR until just a few hours ago. I'll turn around and do Boomday next, after I tweak RR some more.
Firstly - the theme is magnificent. This is as dark as I was hoping the Warlock/Priest combo would be. A fatty nose with legs. Why, I could see this bloke shopping at Walmart!
Secondly - does this trigger for 'each time your health changed during one of your turns', or 'each time your health changed during one of your turns?' That is to say/blather on, does its cost reduce by one for each turn during which your health changed, or for each time your health changed, turns notwithstanding? I'm guessing it's the first, because if it were the second, you wouldn't need to state 'during one of your turns' - the text would be 'each time your health changed this game'.
Terti-idon'tcare-ally - even though that means that our new big honker ain't so strong as the other folks here think, since cards like Spreading Madness would only reduce its cost by one, it's still flabbergastingly good! (Get it? Flab? haha. wee.) Damage yourself on turns 1-4, and voila, you have a playable 4-mana 8-8 for turn 5, ready to be copied, taunted, and Shadow Word: Ruin'd.
The last two class giants printed for Priest and Warlock saw minimal play during their initial release before being substituted for more efficient minions.
Grave Horror was a 12 mana minion that was discounted by (1) for each spell you cast on your turn and Jumbo Imp was discounted by (1) for each friendly demon that died while it was in your hand.
This Giant will most likely see home in a control deck, which Priest and Warlock can excel at, where damage mitigation is key.
This means taking damage and restoring it.
Warlock has good tools that help them TAKE damage, their default hero power helps them deal 2 damage to themselves while they draw this card. There's also a long list of spells and minions and standard and wild that allows the warlock to hurt themselves to receive a positive benefit, Rain of Fire has been a popular mention already, but their class healing is very very weak, with NetherBreath and Aranasi BroodMother requiring deck construction to utilize them the best.
Priest has the opposite problem, they can restore 2 health with their hero power, but their library is more geared toward self help than self hurt. Priests are able to mitigate damage taken but they won't be able to be proactive on the damage end.
Cards such as this and the Brittlebone Destroyer I believe will help open doors to old archetypes and decklists of Warlock and Priest - self harm and Obelisk Priest. Warlock received some cards that didn't see much play with Neferset Destroyer and Diseased Vulture, two cards that reward self punishing plays. Priests Obelisk quest saw some fairly competitive play in Ulduum, and a deck list that requires you to mitigate what your opponent damages sounds like it'd be a shoe in.
I believe this would make this giant a contender for control decks, but not the popular handlock or resurrect priests we've seen since they're overtaken with the Galakrond package since DoD
A cheap 8/8 do-nothing in the late game isn't that great. These kinds of cards have only entered the meta when they can be played on turns 4-7. Technically possible with this, but not practical.
Yeah i know that... I just said that warlock has more opportunity to do so... And 0 mana part was just a joke. But priest need to gt face damage din a first palce while warlock can life tap then heal back and be done with it on turn 5-6 if you tap every turn and have a few self damage or heal cards...
I am seeing insane value in zoolock. It essentially converts all tokens to mid sized minions as well as acting as a deathrattle activator. Both of which are staples in zoolock.
It does have an anti-synergy with Magic Carpet and [Hearthstone Card (Scrap Imp) Not Found]. That said I still see it being run in Scrap imp decks as a contingency card if you don't draw a timely scrap imp. As for Magic Carpet, you could swap in [Hearthstone Card (Fluffy Broom) Not Found] instead. If have a lot of tokens in hand, this plus tokens then Fluffy Broom could act as a pseudo board clear.
That's the level of creepy artwork - just look at those tokens!! - that I would have loved Witchwood to be at ... Instead we got a phantom grizzly that was deemed too ghostly ..!
For anyone who doubt of its potency for Warlock, I'd like to remind you that a giant was once nerfed and hall of famed because it was doing a little too good into Warlock's lists - I could be wrong - who knows?
This certainly is interesting. I would be happy to open one or two of these to play around with, though I am not sure exactly what deck wants them right now. I guess a zoolock type deck with Darkglare and Flame Imp and stuff. Priest is kind of tricky since healing your face is a bit harder to do than damage it. I am pretty sure somewhere a deck is going to really want two copies of these, I am just not sure exactly what that deck looks like.
Why do you only think for hero powers ? lifesteal and all healing effects on your turn also counts. I don't see any differencies between warlock and priest here honestly.
just drop some lifesteal minions and let them do the job for you.
Also, that's valid for warlock too. So, you might be right about it is easier in warlock.
Damn Healing Rain would decrease its cost to 0 for just 3 mana if it was a Shaman card. :(
Like Brittlebone Destroyer, the case for this card practically makes itself in Warlock but is a little bit harder for Priest where using the hero power on your face just feels bad. But where Brittlebone Destroyer is so powerful it makes up for the downside of spending two mana healing your face, I'm not sure Flesh Giant does. Priest has some ways to get value out of a big, cheap minion (Psyche Split and Grave Rune come to mind), but those cards are typically better in conjunction with taunts or high value, non-vanilla minions. This could still be quite good in Priest, but it's not a slam dunk.
Sure, but priest has the same problem that heal paladin had, you can't heal without first damaging yourself.
Assuming this hits on in priest, the appropriate counter is to simply ignore their face until at least turn 5. Not that priest has much initiative to play anything until turn 5 anyway. Its just not very consistent, similar to Zandalari Templar
Also, its more or less a dead card in control matches, being an 8/8 for 8 is not really that imposing. Its just my opinion, but warlock can juice this lemon way better and more consistently than priest.
The comparison to Vilespine Slayer is apt here for Warlock. There's no world where you're not happy to spend 6 mana tapping and getting a huge tempo swing. The case is a tiny bit harder to make for Priest, only because typically using your hero power on face is the worst play and you always want to be spending your mana playing cards or healing minions. But a 6 mana 3/3 that destroys a minion is so good I think it supersedes that natural tendency in Priest.
[Hearthstone Card (Infiltrator Liliana) Not Found] is not exciting - she's a Jungle Panther with a "1 mana deal 4" tacked on as a deathrattle. Mind you, she could be quite good - that's a nice little bundle of stats and effects, and there are plenty of stealth synergies from Ashes of Outland - but she's just not exciting.
I do really like the lore focus in this set, with the sort of "WoW prequel" that we're seeing with characters like Liliana and Kel'Thuzad. Hoping we'll get more of that as the reveals continue.
Custom Class - Aisha, the Alraune (WIP)

This Week's Tavern Brawl is "Just a Hallucination"
Except when they get DK Thrall and you get destroyed...

Oh noooo ... not an other 4 mana 7/7 ; will Team5 ever learn? ^^
New Rogue & Warrior Minion - Steeldancer
a (4) 4/4 that comes with a + X/X depending on how much you buffed that blade ?!
Sign me in!!
In all seriousness, I think this will be on a watchlist for possible nerf candidate.
We will see
New Priest & Warlock Minion - Disciplinarian Gandling
At face value, it looks really good to me.
I am seeing insane value in zoolock. It essentially converts all tokens to mid sized minions as well as acting as a deathrattle activator. Both of which are staples in zoolock.

So far, my #2 must craft card of the set.
New Demon Hunter Spell - Cycle of Hatred
Illidan really needed a board clear of some sort. This (7) mana addition to his cards pool will surely come in handy.
New Rogue Minion - Infiltrator Lilian
Seems like a cool effect, but it doesn't seem legendary's cool
But then again, deathrattle rogue could very well be re-actualized ; this may be a key?
New Priest & Warlock Minion - Brittlebone Destroyer
It wears well its name , Brittlebone Destroyer ^^
New Warlock Minion - Boneweb Egg
That's the level of creepy artwork - just look at those tokens!! - that I would have loved Witchwood to be at ...
Instead we got a phantom grizzly that was deemed too ghostly ..!
New Priest & Warlock Minion - Disciplinarian Gandling
Cool effect + relatively cheap mana cost opens many doors
This will be fun!

Trash, dies to Big Game Hunter, 1/5 :P
This Week's Tavern Brawl is "Just a Hallucination"
This is one of those brawls that I just play for fun.
Maybe its just that Hallucination has no animation unlike *cough* Raven Idol.
Anyone here actually played as demon hunter yet? Turns out that that 1 mana hp really does a lot to help out dhunters' set.
Disciplinarian Gandling is a New Priest & Warlock Legendary Revealed for Hearthstone's Scholomance Academy Expansion
Vanilla stats and a ridiculously powerful effect that synergizes with deathrattles and tiny units. Clearly great for both Priest and Warlock.

Great egg for Zoolock, great discard synergy for Discolock and Zoolock burn. Lots to love with Boneweb Egg, and I expect it will see lots of play
