Is there an article anywhere that explains how LoR’s ranked system works? Most of it is self-explanatory, and this blog post filled in a lot of the gaps. (I had not found a list of tiers or an explanation of season resets anywhere before this. I had seen a mention of cosmetic rewards before, but this post’s explanation that they are icons based on tier was more than I’d found.)
I’d searched the official LoR site and blog, the Out of Cards articles (though it’s hard to search news articles, so I may have missed it), and the LoL fandom wiki. Nothing.
At this point, I think my only remaining question is what “LP” means - probably “League Points”, but I’m calling them “lollipops” until I learn for sure. But it would be great to read an explanation to make sure I’m not missing anything that I didn’t think to ask. It would also be great to find out if there are any resources I’m overlooking, because this game is not as well-documented as Hearthstone is yet.
I'm pretty sure there was, but I couldn't find it readily. Basically:
There are 7 Tiers: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Master
Each Tier has 4 divisions (e.g., Gold IV); lower Roman numerals are higher rank
You gain LP ("ladder points?") by winning ranked matches and lose by losing. This is indicated by the bar that fills/depletes after the match.
It takes 100 LP to advance through one division (full bar). Any extra will carry into the next division
If you are at exactly 0 LP (empty bar) and lose, you will be demoted 1 division--unless you are already at the lowest division; you won't lose a Tier except during the season's end reset
If you are above 0 LP but lose more than you have, it will stop at exactly 0 LP and remain in the same division. If you lose the next ranked game too, you'll be demoted then
As near as I can tell, there is no advantage or disadvantage for your rank--it appears to be strictly bragging rights
That seems like a really bad idea to me. There are minions in the game that are good and useful outside of their tribe that will just end up getting randomly cut out of the pool. Menagerie is already a highly inconsistent strategy and revolves a lot around both whether you can get the appropriate buff engines and the appropriate minions to buff. Now imagine trying menagerie when Cave Hydra is out of the picture. How much harder is it going to be to make this underpowered composition work? Similarly, you don't need to play a dragon build to want the 2/1 Divine Shield Reborn guy for your Divine Shield/Menagerie line up. You don't need to play Demons but Mal'ganis can be useful if you happen to be playing Baz'hial. You'd appreciate a Cave Hydra if you're Putricide. It's one of the few cards that make his hero power have some value. Etc etc. Essentially, the underpowered heroes that benefit at least a bit from various cute synergies will likely end up becoming even weaker when some of those synergies are unavailable, so the heroes that already steamroll the early turns through some busted early advantages will become that much stronger in comparison. And even though you'll know what is and isn't available at the start of the game, that doesn't make it much better when your picks are between Putricide and Wagtoggle and you know Beasts are out of the picture.
I’d assume it’s gonna be the same as it’s always been, with the legendary quest replacing one of your normal ones if you don’t have space for it that day
Just to head off any panic - the WCDC will be continuing with our 17th competition of Season 1, it just won't go up until the Bday competition has also concluded. Didn't want to confuse anyone with that.
Hopefully you'll all like it, it's pretty xciting.

It makes sense, but still... Demon Hunter has strong enough cards to dominate Arena regardless of sets they could put in. Before Blizzard over-nerfed class cards frequency in DH Draft, the class was on 1st place by winrates. Even in Wild constructed, DH is strong enough.
And about new game mode, I think you are right. I hope for some limited mode instead, but I think it will use player's collection as you mentioned. We can buy Wild sets with gold since December 2019, so that way we could easily spend our gold... and the new mode. Which would also be good for Blizz, we would have to buy newer sets with cash and not gold :P
Anyways, can't wait for the new mode, whatever it happens to be :)
Poor Illidan! The OG 9 heroes got to dominate for YEARS before replacements showed up, but Illy only got 2 months. And he had to wait TEN. THOUSAND. YEARS.
Try to get every region except Bilgewater to Level 8 Region Reward ASAP -> will net you lots of quick champions
Try to get at least 3 wins every day -> will help with the aforementioned
Try to use your weekly free expedition token -> will also help with the first 2 plus give free epics
Almost all netdecks will run 3x champions, but don't be afraid to experiment with a modified 2x version. It won't be as good, but often its good enough and it give you freedom to try a few different archetypes.
I would offer more decks, but to be honest with the meta will change drastically once you get enough resources. I won't overload you with anymore cheap decks. To give an idea of how long it will take you to collect everything. I played the game 17 weeks and I have 0 champions, 10 epics, 52 rares, 19 commons left to collect before I have three of everything and generally followed "OldManSanns" advice above. Here is some good news for you, no new cards will be added until at least August, so you've got at least 7 weeks to collect and catch, so don't feel behind plus you have catch up XP that I don't get. So keep at it and you'll be ready for some advance decks in no time.

I'm pretty sure there was, but I couldn't find it readily. Basically:
Morgl the Oracle
I love using Morgl as Shaman, he is dope.

Because it had like 0 synergy before the new Raptor guy (only Baron)
The Felfire Festival Begins On June 9! Pirates in Battlegrounds, Legendary Quests, Felfire Adventure, & More
Well that's kinda shitty :/

Wasn’t it a Rastakhan’s Rumble card, like Ghastcoiler? They both have coloured borders if I’m not mistaken...

They've done that with other cards in the past, I'm pretty sure. There's definitely a chance it could be made a HS card, I guess.

Hmm why is Salty Looter the only card with a non-neutral border? Is it perhaps a slip up and actually going to also be a constructed card
Azure Drake
When Big Ol' Whelp finally rotates out of Standard, I want Azure Drake back in the Classic set. It's been too long, old friend.

No. Since you can't DE the original Kael, this will be the same, since it can't be crafted and only earned from challenge mode.

Anyone know if we need to clear space for legendary quests or something like that?
Pre-constructed decks.
I know it is mentioned but Bannerman would be a good "Intro to Midrange"

I will warn you, it will get boring after a solid week of playing as the strategy is play dudes, make dudes bigger, smash nexus.
I would avoid Blidgewater, Frejord, (most) Shadow Isles, and Ionia.
Once you are more comfortable with the game another cheap and effective aggro-ish/midrange-ish deck is Kinkou Elusives.

Never thought of that way, but now you said it I couldnt agree with you more.
I also think it is nice that a core WoW-character is mixed up with HS-lore, wich is developing well.
