Playing wow for the first time! I just wanted to experience the crowded servers, building community and explore the world. Maybe even encounter some characters from HS, that i love!

I picked an ork warrior but i allready regret being mele... Can‘t reach the boars quickly enough.

I doubt i ever will get to the point of playing raids and stuff but who knows

I don't know if you're playing classic or retail, but in any case, warrior is notoriously slow to level so it's not a good beginner pick.  If you don't think you'll get far into the game as warrior, know that you can try other classes

Warrior is top dog though in Classic which is a great carrot for when things get tough with the class =)

Yeah, warrior is a powerful class but it requires a lot of patience when leveling.  The process might be tough enough to drive new players away, especially when they don't know how big the carrot is

That said, if a newbie warrior can persevere to dungeon diving levels, they'll probably get a lot of tips and support from everyone because there's never enough tanks

Oh damn .. Well so be it then. I‘m level 10 by now and don‘t want to go through all this stuff again just yet. But since i have no real goals, leveling slowly is totally fine. Running around for quests 90% of time anyway

I‘m talking about classic by the way.

As mentioned above, be sure to look forward to those dungeons.  You're almost there!  As a warrior, you're guaranteed to be popular, so just let your group know you're new and they'll probably accommodate

  • Does anyone else feel like the Meta has gotten worse?

Well, good nerfs should not kill decks, just make more room for others to occur (slightly) more often.

So the fact you don't feel too much of a change, is actually a good sign. The meta is meant to evolve slowly, according to the new balance of power, which has not been overturned, just slightly tipped in a new direction...

  • Do you like the way "story" is created for hearthstone?

    Staff

I do like that they make their own story and introduce new lore characters, if it would be just a copy of WOW, i think that would be rather boring. Dont get me wrong, incorporating WOW lore is great and has been done several times with great success, but do your own thing as well.

One thing i am a bit worried about is that some stories might be too "basic", for lack of better word. Year of the Dragon seems quite good so far tho, i just hope that the climax in the 3rd expansion wont be something totally predictable and boringly disappointing. If they do it right this year, i think they set themselves on a great path going forward.

  • are these legendaries good?

I agree with everything that's been said above, but wanted to play devil's advocate a bit.  I should start by reiterating that I think both of those cards are good enough that they should NOT be dusted, at least until Rank 20, and in general you should play for a few months trying out all the classes before dusting/crafting stuff (and if you have some friends with bigger collections you can always borrow their decks while Dueling to try out new cards).

However, the one point I wanted to raise is that I think there's a meaningful difference between the best dusting decision in your first year of playing when you have a limited collection, and dusting later on once you're more resource secure (like most of the folks on forums).  In particular, if crafting a card that fits your playstyle is going to result in you playing the game more (thereby completing more quests, getting more gold from wins, etc.) and increases the odds that you stick with the game long-term, then I think it can be a good decision.

Early on I dusted some leggos that didn't seem fun and/or were part of classes/playstyles that didn't appeal to me, and I'd say about 10-15% of those decisions I regretted later on.  However, I only regretted those decisions much further in the future when I had a bigger collection and new cards were released so I still don't consider most of those mistakes.  We focus on regret when we're thinking about a build we can't play because we dusted a few cards awhile back, but you also need to keep in mind all the fun and wins you had with the cards you crafted instead (and hopefully still use).  So I think it's really a matter of how much risk/regret you're willing to tolerate and how much you value present vs. future enjoyment (and whether you stick with games or switch around).

I believe there are currently 33 legendaries in the Standard classic set (a couple were Hall of Famed), and let's assume you keep both of these legendaries.  If you open say The Beast, Millhouse Manastorm, or Gruul next, and you do some research confirming that they've been pretty terrible for awhile, there's a little more than a 3% chance that the next legendary you unpack will be that same card again (6.5% in the next 2, 10% in the next 3 (roughly 60 Classic packs later)).  Whether that risk is tolerable is a personal preference, though the risk is probably a little higher when you factor in the chance that it becomes stronger in a future meta.  To complete the analysis you'd also want to factor in the "opportunity cost" of replacing your new legendary with something you craft, i.e. how much better is(are) the card(s) you'd craft instead of The Beast, and how much resources will it take to get that(those) card(s)?

Obviously, working through that thought process is difficult/time consuming/prone to bias, so it's often better to follow simple heuristics like, "Don't dust anything", "Don't dust if you're still unpacking cards from the set", etc.

So many cards i miss :( Hopefully Blizz implements a little "rotation mode" aside from aside from arena. I miss N'Zoth. Loved the theme, perfect finisher.

    Great article +1

  • Does anyone else feel like the Meta has gotten worse?

We are very early in the post-nerf meta, but it seems really wide open to me right now. You can kind of win with anything now that Luna's isn't artificially suppressing major portions of the game.

The fact that it's wide open makes it difficult to know what you're playing against a lot of the time (unless it's Hunter b/c it's almost never anything but Highlander). I think this makes it "feel bad" more often than it actually is.

I think Control/Bomb Warrior is the best deck, but people have just stopped playing it for the moment. (Also, this is fucking bullshit. I don't know why Warrior has top tier early game and late game, and Boom didn't get a bigger nerf.)

Once Warrior starts making more of a come back, I think we'll see things reigned in as certain decks will naturally be pushed out, and others will skew one way or the other in order to help their matchups against the metagame leaders.

  • Does anyone else feel like the Meta has gotten worse?

I only see a lot of murlocs. Even in my dreams!

  • Pyroblast

    Love me a pyro

  • Captain's Parrot

    Still don't have!

  • Budget Treant Token Druid

Went 44-19 from Rank 5 to Legend and am super happy with the result. Weirdly enough, I put in a second copy of overflow and Zephrys over the two Anubisath Defenders because I didn't have them. Zephrys actually worked as a tempo tool (like in tempo rogue) and I never actually got him off though I drew through my deck multiple times. So Faerie Dragon might work as a replacement. Thanks so much for the deck and write-up!

  • Does anyone else feel like the Meta has gotten worse?

Well, the nerfs lead to a more agressive meta for sure. But quest shaman and druid became viable! Expect counterdecks to aggro in the coming weeks.
