  • Hakkar card back/favorite back?

Wish they made a spider themed card back. I’m still surprised they haven’t made one yet

  • Interesting video: Just how expensive in dust is the meta compared to previous?

I have five legendaries, necessary for Highlander mage, it's not enough. I'm missing 3 legendaries plus 2 epics. You have to be a big baller to afford that deck.

  • Interesting video: Just how expensive in dust is the meta compared to previous?

Yeah this makes it hard for us relatively new players to stay interested. All the Meta decks are way out of my league still.

It is very hard to climb the ladder now, and even in casual I am getting my butt kicked most of the time.

  • Interesting video: Just how expensive in dust is the meta compared to previous?

It's not that easy to make an apples-to-apples comparison. For example, for a player who plays only one deck, it matters how expensive the cheapest competitive deck is. For players playing multiple decks, you'd have to deduct the cost of cards that are used in multiple decks. For example Zilliax is in many decks, but you only have to craft him once. Control Warrior and Bomb Warrior have a lot of overlap, so if you have all the cards for one, crafting the other is a lot cheaper compared to starting from nothing. For the Witchwood, Genn and Baku were in several top-tier decks, so you could craft those once and play them in multiple decks.

I do see an upward trend in the dust cost for decks. There are more legendaries and epics that are either archetype-defining or just so good that you want to run them. A significant number of the old legendaries were either useless or over-costed; while that felt bad when you drew one from a pack, if you didn't unpack one, you didn't have to craft it. The old epics were often situational, while the new sets have more archetype-specific epics that cannot be omitted or replaced without significantly weakening the deck.

Another factor is that there are now two legendaries per class per set, while it used to be one until Un'Goro.

In the days of the original Reno, adventures were relatively cheap, since you'd get the full set when you bought them. So their dust cost didn't really matter, since I don't think many people crafted those cards at the time they were released.

With the nerfs and hall-of-fame rotations, a larger percentage of decks consists of rotating cards. While this is a good thing for producing fresh metas, it does mean that keeping up with Standard requires more new cards.

I think it would be interesting to have a video or article that looks a bit deeper into the costs of decks. What percentage is due to legendaries and what percentage due to epics? What percentage is neutral cards vs class-specific cards? How many of the expensive cards are essential vs how many could be replaced by cheaper alternatives without breaking the deck?

As for Blizzard addressing the cost issue, what I'd really like to see is a no-triplicate rule for epics, like the no-duplicate rule for legendaries. I always feel really bad when I open the third copy of an epic, since it's worth only 100 dust while crafting an epic that I didn't get will cost 400. It also means I'm very reluctant to craft epics early on, since I might get them from a pack later.

Hi all!  I just wanted to take a minute and celebrate completing 500 wins will all 9 classes.  I just finished Paladin using Quest Pally, which also lined up with my 7000th overall win.  I know many others have many more wins, but this is an exciting milestone for me, so I thought I'd share.

Anyone else hit an important HS milestone recently?  Any upcoming?

    Cheers...

Congrats!  I just got a golden Druid, which is my fifth golden hero.  Unfortunately, that leaves Paladin, Rogue, Warrior, and Shaman, all of which are nowhere near 500 wins.  Those are by far my least enjoyable classes to play, but the Quest Paladin is kinda fun so maybe I'll grind that one for a while

  • Hakkar card back/favorite back?

Kibler or Frodan said the Thrill of Victory and Power Core card backs were rare because, well, how many have attended Blizzard-run Hearthstone live events?

I've used those two and the Dalaran Flame (TeSPA collegiate tournament I went to see) as well, but I generally click "random."

Lemonade remains my favorite card back, but I am no longer STUCK on a deck because of the meta. I hope. (Big Spell Mage, from Witchwood through Rastakhan's Rumble. Let's not have anymore swarm aggro metas, please).

/I see the old website hasn't updated the card back page ... or Google didn't direct me to the latest one

//Still see the occasional Hakkar card back. Wish I could use my Golden Hakkar card I received.

  • Interesting video: Just how expensive in dust is the meta compared to previous?

It definitely feels more expensive. I play more and more wild as I can usually freshen up decks there with some new cards as opposed to needing add 3 or 4 new legendaries.

It got kind of annoying seeing a bunch of people complaining about how special their older cardbacks were when the Ragnaros one was reintroduced. Some people really need to calm down

  • Nine Golden Portraits Celebration

Cool. I still have Shaman, Priest and Paladin left. Playing a lot of Shaman currently so I expect to get my golden one by the end of the season.

  • Interesting video: Just how expensive in dust is the meta compared to previous?

Eye-catching how much dust it costs compared to say The Witchwood era. He should have gone back to a League of Explorers-era meta though, as highlander decks have been reintroduced into standard and effective singletons tend not to use the cheap stuff. But ... were the original Reno Jackson decks cheaper than today's Reno-using Mage?

Also, take note that the argument of "make aggro decks because they're cheap" is falling flat, according to the numbers.

Old Guardian is a decent HS streamer on YouTube to check out for those learning the game, looking for deck ideas or how-tos on using popular decks. (Also has a unique voice, he should be cast as a magicka-using Nord quest giver in The Elder Scrolls games.)

Bloke says he's going to promote budget decks soon, btw. Good on him.

Ah yes, because the KotFT meta was extremely healthy where the majority of the decks relied on a single card and if they did not draw that in time, they'd lose. Much like warrior with Dr. Boom, Mad Genius right now. Let's just add more of those cards and warp the meta around them once again. Fantastic idea.

Tell us then, how would you tone down warrior, for instance, by reverting nerfs/HoFs and/or buffing cards?

I really loved the KotFT meta in reality! Not tone warrior down, tone others up? You are playing what, aggro? Give more tools to other classes, aggro and quest paladin are good counters to warriors. Give more aggro tools to other classes.I think vanish is a mistake being all of famed, it would counter mage perfectly. And this is always the same, you nerf a class others appear, and more complaints, and more cards made useless. GREAT buff the one on Luna's, no one used it and now is a great card. Hopefully they had done before with Moorabi, and gave tools to freeze shaman. But it's a dead card forever. You like having useless cards printed?

You didn't answer my question. Aggro (be it paladin or any other deck, I couldn't tell from your wording) is not a counter to warrior. What are you even on about...

Luna's Pocket Galaxy is now the Barnes of standard. Mages having it on curve skyrockets their winrate to absurd amounts. This is not a healthy thing. Then again, seeing how you enjoyed the death knight meta shows you don't really know what makes a meta good or healthy to begin with.

You don't honestly expect that out of the 135 cards released per expansion, the majority of them will see competitive play, right? That is impossible to achieve and if you think otherwise you're most likely very naive or uninformed.

Edit: You also seem to be missing another crucial part. If a certain card/deck gets nerfed, it often gives way for new cards and deck archetypes to see play. As those decks were most likely being hard countered by the deck that got nerfed.

  • Warriors suck to play against, mainly because they just have so much removal and clear your minions immediately when you play them. I've beaten some here and there but you have to try and bait out a lot of their spells and it takes a while. I wasn't encountering too many at lower ranks but once i got up to higher ranks i saw a lot more of them.

  • [Custom Expansion] FLIGHTS OVER PANDARIA (Regular Updates!)

The lackey that you've created is underpowered. All of the lackeys currently do something worth ~1 mana (easy example: Kobold Lackey) while your's has an effect worth 0 mana: Regenerate. You can up the health to 5 to be a Flash Heal if that's the direction you want to take. Otherwise, I love the expansion idea!

Heart of Fear is a little underwhelming for a card that affects the entire battlefield and seems more like a detriment than an advantage considering as a warlock you're more likely to be damaged than your opponenet.

Cursed Pandaren seems really broken though. I understand it's at the expense of not attacking but it has premium stats with a powerful effect.

Also Prey on the Weak is completely out of flavor for rogue. Rogue has historically never had effects that rely on minion attack; instead a better option would be to change it to say "Deal 2 damage to a minion. Add a random card from another class to your hand." Maybe that's not even balanced, but considering WANTED! has never seen serious play, I think it's fine.

  • Tactician Custom Class (4/12/20 - Ashes of Outland)

    Quote From MalcolmReynolds

man, that hero power is ridiculous! hunters are able to deal 2 damage for 2. but that is only to face, yours is only to minions, but dealing damage to face is not equal to dealing damage to minions. that is why cards like Mind Blast and Sinister Strike deal so much damage for their mana cost.

I know hero powers are very hard to design (when I made my custom class that was the hardest part). What might be more balanced and thematic is if maybe you had some kind of temporary minion buff, maybe something like "give a friendly minion +1 health" or "give a friendly minion +1 attack this turn only".

I was going to debate this, but looking at other 2 Damage spells I've realized that this is actually pretty good value and you're probably right. The problem with your suggestions though is that they're pretty much just worse versions of Priest and Mage hero powers. I'm thinking I'll change it to give a minion +1/+1, since it's decent but definitely not as valuable as the original hero power.

    Quote From Neoguli

With each day, I can already see some potential for cool decks. Zhang is one of cards that might be very slow, but it has some nice upside that scales the longer this game goes. We could fix his problems with him being too slow by just including Master Oakheart. Also great with N'Zoth and Da Undatakah (in Wild).

My apologies if you're amused that my favorite cards in Hearthstone are N'Zoth and Da Undatakah haha

Zhang is very slow, but if you have enough Jade power when you play him getting 30/30 worth of stats on the board is always a good thing. My idea with Jade Tactician is that its slower and harder to play than the other Jade classes, but if you play it right you can get a lot of Jade in a short amount of time (you can also synergize Jade Monk with the Tri-Class Jade cards since they're all 3 Health).

  • Standard Meta Report #1 - August 11, 2019 - August 18, 2019

    Quote From Sykomyke

A few things about this meta feel...well to speak frankly idiotic.

To start, the Aggro Priest variant:

It utilizes practically all the cards a Quest priest variant would want.  To not run quest in this version of the deck seems to speak to the "lemming problem".  (i.e.  A popular streamer/pro player showcases a deck, despite it being flawed or perhaps unrefined the "masses" start to play it even though it practically makes no sense.)

I get it, Lightwarden makes the deck aggro oriented, and you want to play lightwarden on 1 so you can buff it/heal and get out of control fast.  I get it.  However, when the deck loses, it loses hard....except if it had the quest it wouldn't lose hard.  All the deck has to do is swap 1 minion out for the quest, and you will get MUCH more value.

IMO the deck doesn't need Leeroy Jenkins, between Lightwardens, Inner Fire combos, and possibly including the quest, the deck wouldn't need Leeroy in the first place.  And even if you DID run leeroy, You'd want to run it with the quest so you could 8 mana combo for 9 damage.

Everything about this deck, and the people proliferating it's popularity makes ZERO sense.  I implore you.  If you're running aggro priest, just run the quest with it.  Swap out one card that you don't have, or feel like you don't need as much (cough cough 1x Inner fire is enough to combo with...cough cough) And enjoy a much more robust deck.  It would be similar to running a ton of battlecry minions in shaman, and not running the quest because you want to play a turn 1 minion.  It's dumb NOT to include the quest in those instances.

    Quest Shaman:

I've found weaponized wasp to be highly inconsistent,  and often when you play Shudderwock you're playing it on an empty board so you won't be triggering the wasps battlecry effect with the Wock himself.  Running 2x Questing Explorer and 2x Novice Engineer feels redundant.  Both are only used to create hand size early on pre-quest completion.  After quest completion you often don't find yourself running out of resources.

Evil Totem is great if it goes off and survives for more than 1 round, but often it's 2 mana for 1 lackey which is horrible.  I know it makes wasp more consistent to use, but again...I feel like running Youthful Brewmasters or Bog Sloshers and just bouncing your existing lackey generators would be actually better, and in the case of the 2 latter; they progress the quest forward immediately, where Evil Totem does not.

Mogu Fleshshaper isn't horrible, but I find that if you're gonna run that card, you probably want to run mutute.  Yes, it's technically card disadvantage, and sometimes you won't be able to combo them, but the times it high rolls and gives you an 8 drop on turn 3-4, it will pay for itself.

Personally I'm actually running a different decklist with Quest Shaman utilizing Siamat to buff up Shudderwock, and giggling inventors to stall.  It's proved fun, if not somewhat inconsistent.  I guess I'm on the "control" side of Quest Shaman, and there's no right answer, but the deck provided above feels very unrefined.

    Aggro Warrior:

Haven't actually seen this that much.  But it's a one trick pony.  Either it goes off cause you have no answer, or it stalls out.  Any decent midrange/control deck is able to fend it off fairly easily, even with quest completion.  Only other aggro decks will have a hard time from what I've seen.

You're super wrong on the quest in priest.  Combo priest wins or loses games way before the effect is relevant.  You would rather have a CHANCE at a cleric on one than ever have that quest in your opening hand.  Calling it a streamer thing is silly, these things have been tested over thousands of games and statistics show you don't run the quest in combo priest.  Combo priest is one of the highest winrate decks in the meta, if the quest made it better people would be aware.

I do think Leeroy is not a good card in combo priest but this deck runs the 3 mana 3/3 so there is some synergy i've never personally tested and I could see it being a finisher for the games where you don't get a huge combo off and you need to close the game.  It's basically Leeroy + shadowstep except it's a 3/3 that has synergy with your other cards.

I disagree with a lot of your opinions on quest shaman but that deck is not refined and I think you can build it a lot of ways so no way is really right or wrong.  But I think the wasp and totem are good.

yes, the problem with warrior is having the best hero card when not all other classes have heroes. Go to wild, and see where it stands against other heroes. They should have continued to print hero cards.
And about mage, remember vanish, what would mages do against it?
And if adjustments are needed, why do you continue to ask to tone down cards, tone them up, or reverse other stupid nerfs and HoF's!
