With all the changes that have come down the pipeline with these new expansions, I have encountered so many fluctuations in deck builds that many of the popular archetypes are becoming null.  Kingsbane being one of them.  I loved using this card in my Mill Rogue builds as the changes in the expansions came and went.  However, recently I have tried to update that deck and it feels that no matter what I try, there are so many different types of decks out there, that it doesn't work at all anymore.

Of all the decks that I play and have played against, it feels that the only constant in higher level play in Wild is Rez Priest.  I've found a few builds here and there of decks that I like and modified them to my play style, but ultimately I am wondering what everyone else has experienced with some of their favorite decks in Wild with the changing of the environment with the expansions are. Are you finding that your favorite builds and/or decks as a whole are no longer working?  What are you doing different?  Have you abandoned your old builds and gone with something new?

OK, I know some of you have already seen this deck on this site (it's gotten a little bit of hype, including 5 upvotes and me running into someone in HS who recognized me by the deck I was running and friended me).

But until now, however much fun I was having with the deck, I didn't really consider it worthy of posting on the forums about, because its winrate was only in the 30s or 40s.

That's changed in the past few days. Maybe it's just because it's the end of the month and the tryhards have ranked up above me, but ... whatever the reason, I've played 55 games of the latest version of the deck, and it's gotten a winrate of 63.6%. That's newsworthy IMO.

HSReplay says that the typical winrate for Quest Shamans lately (without Galakrond) is 37.8%, so ... I must be doing something right and different to get the results I'm getting!

I'm excited to improve the deck even more on Tuesday when Sky Gen'ral Kragg comes out!

Title!! VERY curious! What did everyone get in their weekly vault? Also, what are your thoughts on NOT being able to buy what you want in the beginning to essentially make all possible deck combinations? I've seen a lot of people complaining that they can't build certain decks yet.

Because I sure don't. Am I in Bronze? Or am I in Gold? Am I in Plat? Silver? Iron? Who the F knows. An even more impertinent question, why didn't the devs not just label the ranks with, you know, WORDS. Like every other competitive game ever made, including League of Legends.

We're 1 week in and there's already a bunch of threads debating whether or not Card X is overpowered or Y needs a nerf, so I thought it might be a Friday Fun topic to flip those conversations around and ask: which cards are you underwhelmed by?  What do you think is unplayable and/or could really use a buff?

I'll start.  I think Vladimir is the least impressive card in the set by a mile, followed by Kalista at a distant 2nd.  Both are nonexistent on ladder.  They're both champions--unlike say Mistwraith, where you can make the claim that the card is niche and isn't intended to be significant, these cards are suppose to be the high-impact tent poles that you build your decks around. 

For Vlad: I like their commitment to theme, but in practice dealing 1 damage to ALL your attacking minions BEFORE the opponent declares blockers is extremely costly, and the benefit of dealing a little nexus damage just isn't worth it.  He doesn't fit aggro strategies--he's too expensive--and he doesn't really fit tempo strategies because he just makes it too easy for your opponent to value trade.  I have seen theorycraft decks where you try to leverage his effect across pain-loving Frejlord minions, but they're basically a lot of setup for the chance at one big swing--way too slow for any conceivable meta, and even if you do somehow pull it off you don't have overwhelm so you're vulnerable to chump blocks.  They did at least buff him in the last patch such that his level up now includes damage to himself, but even if you level him he's just a 6/6 regen--basically a Level 2 Garen without the attack tokens. 

For Kalista: her bond use to make her invulnerable but they nerfed it to just giving +2/+0 for as long as she's alive and gave her fearsome.  The big problem here is that she still only has 2 health, so she dies to pretty much anything: challenger, mystic shot, avalanche, any blocker with 3+ attack, etc.  I don't think she's as bad as Vlad as you can at least still slot a few copies of her in any aggro-oriented deck and basically just use her as a well-statted 3-drop, but as peoples' collections fill out and better options become available I think she stops making the cut.

Full disclosure: I have opened 1 Vlad and 2 Kalista from my champions modules, so I am definitely biased.  :-P  What cards do you think are "teh weaksauce"?

I have been trying to experiment with stuff one of them is poros, sadly I don't have all the poro cards or a third braum, but I tried to play it, I am quite sure it's not good enough and I am more unsure which second region fits the poro decks..

didn't get to play them in the preview, but I saw fluff got nerfed(think it was from 5 mana to 6) so there is probably a viable build somehow..

this is what I have so far:

After 2 days of very aggro decks (mech pally, face hunters, ...) this last day of ladder was full of druids in ranks 1-3. So I made a deck to specifically beat them and it worked way better than I expected.

I got 12 wins a row to get to legend, knocking down 6 embiggen druids on the way. Si I decided to forget about my statistics course and call it 100% win ;)

I'm not saying I'm a master deck builder (I'm usually pretty bad when I make my own decks) and I suppose many people have similar decks already. But if you like playing rogue and face too many druids, try this version!

I played Cheap Shot twice then ran out of mana, so i played Preparation to be able to cast another echo copy of Cheap Shot. As you can see all my spells cost 2 less, EXCEPT the echo copy of Cheap Shot that costs 1 less.

Echo copies always cost the same as the "default" version of the card, and there are no on board modifiers that would somehow change the mana cost of Cheap Shot. It costed 2, i played Prep, it costed 1. That is a bug.

Let´s get straight to the bussiness.... Piltover sucks. It´s extremely slow and dependant on drawing very specific cards to win AND 90% decks you will play against have 3x Deny in their decks, as Ionia is completely broken region with elusive units, aggro, control, spells ... well , pretty much anything. 

Piltover is supposed to be THE spell control region, but it has almost the worst spells in the game ( For example, Piltover is the only region without hard removal spell like Vengeance, Culling Strikes and Noxxian Guillotine , the best thing you get is 3 damage for 7 mana in Piltover :D ) 

Deny needs it´s cost increased to atleast 4-5,  so Ionia decks won´t be allowed to counter anything for 3 spell mana. And Piltover cards like Assemly Bot needs buff ( for example, decrease it´s cost to 2 ) ,  Piltover has no viable 1-2 cost units except Eager Apprentice so your deck becomes viable at turn 5+, where you can start comboing with Heimerdinger etc. , but in this meta there is no way you survive that long.

A new patch has landed. It brings with it a bunch of buffs to purple, the ability to swap boards, and the ability to export decks directly from the deck tracker (so now you can copy the deck that kicked your butt :P) and a bunch of more fixes. Full notes.

The great forum overhaul of 2020 has arrived.

• Forum listing is no longer super simple, using a more table-like format.
  • You now see recent threads for each forum section.
  • Total replies and thread counts are also available. (Mobile these are hidden)
  • We'll bring back the "backgrounds" to make each forum look a little prettier in the future.
  • Dev Note: Originally, the goal was to keep the forum homepage very simple. This was ultimately a failure because it is more difficult to see how active each of the forums are. Attempts were made early on to display more information in the old format, but it was really ugly.
• Sticky threads now appear more like normal threads
  • Dev Note: The original goal with stickies was to make them look different and more simple so that they didn't take away from the conversations below. This sort of worked but only in theory. In practice, our stickies are places where discussion is actively happening and this may have hurt it. Hello everyone, I'm back with another concept that allows us to have more ways to play Hearthstone. My last concept was Explorer, a format that bans cards on a monthly basis until it resets at the beginning of the new Hearthstone Year. Today I bring you Tables, a new way to play Hearthstone with your friends with your own rules. Such as hand size, starting health, deck size, and more with a little imagination. There's also some bonus stuff that I'm throwing in here as well that can apply. Again, if you see any flaws, have any questions, or just want to point something out that I didn't cover, please let me know. My designs are not perfect but we as a community can get Team 5's attention and tell them that we want something new.

Here we go.



Hearthstone is set in Harth's tavern somewhere in Azeroth.
The players are sat down at a table, in front of the Box and begin playing.
But what if we..... got up? And walked to a different table?
This is where Tables came from, the idea that other people are in this tavern, playing Hearthstone, by their own rules.
It's a pretty easy concept and pretty simple to implement.



Everyone is familiar with with the Modes button by now, and I felt that Tables fits right into that menu.
Choosing a tankard was appropriate because chances are if you're playing custom games, you're playing with friends.
Just click it and you'll be taken to the next menu.



Okay, I know I just gave you ALOT to look at and process, but these are the tables.

Before we talk about making your own rules and rule sets, I'm going to showcase some other ways to play.



Before we get started we have to address that with the implementation of Tables, comes also the Deck Box system.
It's simple, you click the button, and select the corresponding rule set or mode you want it to be made for, and get to building.





Toki, Time-Tinker is moving to Wild in April and when she does, her Battlecry won't make much sense.
She didn't see serious play when she was in Standard and definitely won't in Wild, so why not give her a Table to herself?



Toki's Tables of Time allows players to visit old, end of year metas of the past.
Just select the mode and what year, and get to playing!





Two Headed Ogre is pretty straight forward.

Hearthstone Mathematics made a video showcasing what a 2V2 mode would look like.



Iksar even commented on the mode but this was right before Battlegrounds was announced, so maybe people have forgotten about it?




Tournaments Grounds is essentially Tournament Mode but now it has a home in Table.

It makes sense really.
What if a bunch of players got together, established rules, card bans, and the like and started a Tournament?
What if other players like their rule set and wanted to mimic it?
We'll get to that soon. ;)




Endless Adventure is basically an endless Dungeon Run, but with rewards.
It uses all of them, intertwined if you'd like.
Dungeon Run, Monster Hunt, Rumble Run, Dalaran Heist, and Tombs of Terror.

A free version of it will be available to all players to play whenever they want.
New Treasures and ways to modify/remove cards from your deck should be implemented.
Rewards should be given when beating boss number "x" and so on.

A paid version, with either gold or your local currency, is available to those who think they can get really far.
Rewards will be increased as well.



For Tournament Grounds and Endless Adventure, I went and I had to brainstorm for rewards that are worthy of players' time.

I came up with two new rewards called Pack Tokens and Pack Sleeves.

Pack Tokens are exactly what they sound like.
They are equivalent to 100 Gold and buy you a pack.
The difference is that you can use these to buy whatever pack you want instead of the game choosing for you.




Pack Sleeves are a tool players can use to guarantee that they'll open a Legendary or Epic card.

Any pack can be used with these, and most importantly, you don't have to use them right away.
That means you can save them, and when an expansion comes out, if you want to use them all at once, go for it.
Now of course these aren't going to be easy to obtain, but hey, they're still neat.

The way these work internally is that once the pack is slid in, it chooses a Common rarity card and changes it before you open the pack.

Now enough waiting around, let's talk about making your own rules.
You select "Your Table" and are presented with a menu that allows you to browse individual rules and build them into a rule set.
You give it a name and description and start diving into individual rules that apply within.

Focus on the left side first.

The game needs to know what set restrictions you'd like to have.
Current Standard set?
How about all of Wild?
Do you want to modify what was allowed in Year of the Mammoth?

Let's pick Standard for Simplicity.
Now we have to list sets that are in use, this will default to whatever was allowed within the time you chose.
If you want to ban a particular set, now you can.
What would it look like if only (all of) Witchwood, Rastakhan's Rumble, and Descent of Dragons were allowed?
No Classic or Basic sets either.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's ban some cards, and maybe even some classes.
We'll get rid of every Galakrond card plus what ever cards synergize with him.
We'll also ban Embiggen and Necrium Apothecary.
You know what? Since Genn Greymane and Baku the Mooneater are here I'm gonna ban Paladin and Shaman as well, these are MY rules after all.

On the right you can see other rules that are not active until you click "Add Custom Rules".
Then you can peruse you own ideas or other players ideas and throw them into the rule set.
At the bottom of the extra rules slider will be an option to actually make other rules, I just couldn't find an appealing UI design.

Rule sets and Rules are shareable similarly to how we share deck codes.

"Play" is where you would go if you wanted to play against random players against other players' rule sets, or maybe even a rule set made by a Blizzard employee.

Think of it as a game browser.

Issues, Solutions, and Outcomes.

Issues

Probably the biggest one that will be called out is that it dilutes the player base which is understandable.
Players claim that the wait times for Wild are long enough as it is and more formats or game modes would make it even longer.

Does Tables of Time have longevity?

What if rules conflict with each other?

How will Tavern Brawl be affected?

Replayability

Taverns of Time could be the largest victim of this. I'm not sure how many long time players will dive into old, figured out metas.
But the option is still there for people who would like to dive in.

Solutions

Rules should be made to where if two rules conflict they can't exist in the same rule set. This should be a fail safe that's implemented by Team 5.

As for dilution of the player base, Team 5 should create more incentives to encourage players to branch out into different formats and modes with quests.
They've done it in the past, they just need to do it more often.

To me, Tavern Brawl is more of a stepping stone if anything.
It's existed for several years now and I think it's time to retire it and/or move it into Tables.
It's honestly a perfect fit as well.

Outcomes

I think in general most players will like the idea that they can make their own rules and share them with the Hearthstone community.

Dilution of the player base is a possibility but I firmly believe in having a split player base is better than a non-existent one.

I made this Mode because people were telling me how awesome it would be to have the ability to make their own rules.
So I made a concept that Team 5 should look at and consider.

So everyone who have been playing Runeterra can't ignore the fact that elusives are a problem specially now as they are everywhere, the main problem with the mechanic is that you can't interact with it unless you are playing elusive units yourself or you deck is mostly spells and you have all niche removals.

It's much harder to deal with when they are buffed and they keep attacking you each round for a lot of damage.

To top it all off Deny is preventing skill/spell answers for the deck.

I posted one idea on one balance thread but I think this specific mechanic needs a dedicated thread.

So what are the options?

1. Make elusive one strike only, this will not only open additional design space but it makes total sense, if you are sneaking around or hard to catch, once you stroke you revealed yourself so you are no longer stealthed, add to Teemo that he regains elusive each round and buff Ezreal's health to compensate.

2. make elusive one turn only like barrier, you play an elusive unit? well you better attack with it/defend because it will lose it at the end of the round- I initially thought about this approach but it would destroy them and it's less thematic.

3. nerfs across the board, nerf all elusive followers hp or attack, make the mechanic have premium cost. because of the inevitable powercreep it's a short term solution

4. Nerf Deny, it will knock down the elusive decks enough.

So what do you guys think?

Win or lose, I'm already tired of this card. I shouldn't be forced to not use any spells over 5 mana when I face a deck with Ionian cards.... Idk if it needs to be hard nerfed, but something needs to be done about this card solo winning certain matchups.

Have you ever had a moment when you wanted to craft an expensive card (Epic or Legendary) based on an idea you know is going to be bad of a deck you know that will never work, but you just have to do it for the fun of it?

What was the card, and what was the result of this endeavor? 

I am having that moment right now... and was wondering how others handled it :)

Deny seems to be a slightly overpowered card, but the developers have stated that they don't want to increase its Mana cost because then it couldn't be cast just with spell mana. One way that they could nerf it without changing the mana cost would be for them to add "Refill 2 of your opponent's Spell Mana" to Deny so that it becomes weaker and allows for your opponent to gain back some of the Mana they lost by casting the spell. This way players could cast expensive spells against Ionian opponents without having to wait for them to fall below 3 Mana.

I'm asking this because obviously part of the game designers intent was to have decks be built around champions stronger effects. As of now, I am seeing plenty of decks do extremely well with absolutely no champions in them - and it's more than I'd honestly even like to see. What's everyone's thoughts on this?

Following the reveal of Galakrond's Awakening, I got inspired to get creative and try to make my own adventure.

This is my first time trying to design a custom set of cards, and I'm at that point where I finished it and want to see other people's opinions about it.

The set would be the last of the Year of the Dragon (and kind of like an imaginary alternative to Galakrond's Awakening). My main goal was to create a set of 35 cards that would be coherent, that would bring freshness to the current meta, that would support multiple archetypes for all classes, that would be powerful (to follow up on DoD), that would be fun, that would be (at least somewhat) balanced, and that would bring a slightly slower pace to the game, in order to make the mid-game shine more for all classes. As I tried to focus on the actual playability of the cards themselves, I didn't try to think too much about a theme or try to be too innovative (no new keywords, etc). I instead went for the "Galakrond's Awakening"'s route of trying to expend on the current sets, as well as bringing back some keywords from this year. The goal wasn't to have each card make you go WOW but to just create a proper collection that would try to respect Hearthstone's design philosophy in a world where Galakrond's Awakening didn't really happen.

I will be commenting on most cards to provide some insights. Also, forgive me if sometimes the flavor is awkward, I tried my best to at least make everything look decent !

Each class gets 1 common, 1 rare, and 1 legendary. There are 2 neutrals of each rarity. Enjoy.

Shaman

Totems can be used for many things, especially with all the Lackeys around, so this aims to negate the drawbacks of Overloading by giving you something to do when you can't do much.	I believe that evolve is a fun mechanic, and I think such a card would give the archetype a lot of juice, especially since its effect can be triggered multiple times unlike spells. Synergizes with Primal Invocation quite nicely.	Very versatile, great value for a struggling class. Not an oppressive early game due to poor stats and overload.

Mage

I believe Mage could use the help of a powerful, slow 1-drop that could be used across most of its archetypes.	Fun, versatile spell that aims to ease your curve a bit, if you highroll. Awesome in Cyclone decks.	A strong, relatively cheap tempo play to make up for the lack of good 4-drops in Mage, that I think would fit greatly with the rest of the cards.

Priest

We saw the impact of Winged Guardian, and I believe priest could use a strong minion as well, but without the frankly obnoxious Taunt keyword. The optional battlecry is there because Priest has a lot of ways to buff its minions.	Giving love to control Priest but without giving love to resurrect Priest. Can also be used in combo decks, I guess.	This card has a lot of potential and I love it. Insane tempo and value, at the "cost" of delaying fatigue. Priest could really use some fun stuff like this that doesn't fall into either combo or resurrect archetypes.

Warlock

I really like zoolock as an archetype because it revolves around "carry" minions and "enabler" minions that all need to work together, unlike Galakrond Warlock which is just token spamming.	Handlock is finally a thing and it would be a shame to see it go. Also great in zoo.	What is great with Warlock is that it's also a fun control class. This one could surely make for some cool moments.

Rogue

Nowadays, Rogue revolves quite a bit around finding answers out of thin air. I like this philosophy, even if I can see how it can be frustrating, as an opponent, when you don't know what to expect. Really good to complete the Uldum quest, too.	Rogue doesn't have insane expensive spells, so this can't really be abused... unless you find a way to abuse it. Probably a bit too good with Togwaggle ?	And even more craziness, to conclude from the last two cards. Have fun !

Paladin

Sure, Mech Paladin would love this, but how about some support for control Paladin while we're at it ? please ?	Just a sweet weapon with great value in the early game.	Now, all we needed was to give control Paladin a win condition. Hope this does it.

Hunter

A tool to deal with all the Rush minions in the current meta. Batterhead better watch out! Also neat against Divine Shield minions.	Great value overall, always welcome in most Hunter decks in my opinion.	An argument in favor of giving Secret Hunter a real purpose.

Warrior

A really powerful minion to keep the board in check, and that synergizes with most Warrior minions.	Control Warrior is still a thing, Dr Boom isn't gone yet, I believe such a minion could be of use.	Pirate Warrior needs a leader. Also, this is just a very strong minion that most Warrior archetypes would appreciate.

Druid

Ferocious Howl is rotating out, and I think it needs a replacement.	OK, maybe this card doesn't need to exist, but Treant Druid is finally somewhat viable, so let's embrace it !	A decent minion for ramp/control/quest Druid, if you can enable him. Potentially spooky depending on how easy Druid can get Armor.

Neutral

Just a fun RNG 2-drop.	A minion that hides among the Lackeys.	Delay your draw but stop aggro. Worth it ?
The packfiller of the set Again, basically a minion that synergizes with all the Lackeys.	The set is heavily centered around giving control decks more power, so I believe such a card would be welcome in some aggro decks.	I made sure to design some neat 6-drops just to so I could justify this card because I like it. Very fun in my opinion.
Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle!	And at last, a final love letter to Highlander decks.

Some of the boards look cool, but I'm scared to buy one if I don't know what the music sounds like.

Is there a way we can sample the music tracks for each board?

One of the biggest things that attracted me to this game was that Riot had ditched the random-packs model, allowing the players to craft exactly the cards they want. In particular, the uncertain rarities of the cards in random packs often leads to a feels-bad situation when, for example, you get nothing but forty dust worth of garbage in Hearthstone.

So in Runeterra, I kinda hate the way that, even at max level, the Vault reward is mostly bad cards by default, with a random chance to upgrade each drop. It is basically full of random packs!

(For those who don't know: A diamond chest contains several hundred shards plus three rare capsules. Each rare capsule contains a handful of common cards and one guaranteed rare, much like a Hearthstone pack. And also like Hearthstone, there's a very small random chance that each capsule and card can spontaneously upgrade to a rarer version of itself.)

Getting three rare capsules that fail to upgrade out of a diamond chest is a bit of a letdown, considering how hard you worked to earn it.

I would much rather receive slightly fewer, better rewards than a larger number of weak rewards that might upgrade if I get lucky. A diamond chest should guarantee at least one epic capsule, don't you think?

This whole random upgrade thing is just a throwback to the microtransaction model everyone is starting to despise, which I thought Runeterra might be trying to move away from. Can we please just ditch it altogether?

After playing different card games for years, i am here to give you my take on LOR.

The snowball in this game is HUGE, you need to let players draw 2 cards each round, there are too many cards in your deck and if you don't happen to have a specific card/answer(usually a spell) in your hand the game can end in just 1 turn due to the sire amount of power each card holds.

Things only get worse with how overpowered spells are, it's actually the only way to force a kill on an opponet's unit("challenger" ain't reliable) making them frustrating and underwhelming to play against.
You can lose the entire game due to a single spell, a complete 100% turn around.


Ideas to fix this:

1) Up the nexus HP to 25 or even 30, making the game a bit slower and letting us take 1-2 more attacks reducing the need of answers to be so asap.

2) To compensate for the HP buff, let us draw 2 cards per turn resetting the game's paste and giving back aggro the power it lost from the higher HP. +what i have told above.

3) Let every region use "deny", indirectly nerfing all spells a little bit.

I am extremely open to discussion, especially from a competitive view, cause i am only talking about casual playing.

I know only one copy of a specific champion can be on the board at once but what happens if, for example, I buff a jinx and it vanishes?

Will it keep my buffs and reappear in my hand? or get shuffled into my deck (by playing jinx's get excited) with buffs?

Or will it simply revert to it's default state?

While Wild Growth has been out of the meta for a time since its nerf, the recent release of Winged Guardian has brought a Midrange, Dragon/Ramp/Embiggen Druid back into the game leveraging the new ramp abilities provided by Breath of Dreams. It remains to be seen how this deck will fare over time as the meta settles and new cards are released, but for now it's putting up an appreciable presence, making this a good time to look at it.

One thing to note upfront is that this isn't a discussion of nerfs. While you could make a case for nerfing Breath of Dreams, you could also make a case for nerfing tons of stuff from Descent of Dragons, given the immense power creep in the set. For what it's worth, I'm a bit pleased that Druid at least has a deck to work with now after its period of dormancy.
