2: Oh yeah, it will take a LONG time. Like I said I think this is one of the main reasons why Team 5 canned a few years back, BUT that doesn't mean there aren't players who won't play it daily. You can break in between games if you win fast enough, there's also a two minute break if the other player is waiting on you to finish. It's in the wall of text somewhere up there, and it may need to be adjusted to 5-10 minutes but then again that's adding onto total time. I think I should add in a check system if all the players are done making their decks the match can go ahead and start, but that could also cause griefing/trolling. Plus the deck box could help but that would need some more thought than what I put into it, the main reason for deck crafting is so that people can adapt their strategies to what cards are legal. I defaulted to 8 players simply because we know Hearthstone can handle 8 players in a session at once. I want to keep it at 4 decks so players can ban a deck as they see fit. Unless banning is removed then yeah go down to three decks and make it best of 3, BUT that means less games in total which then should reflect on total rewards. Less Games = Fewer rewards.
That isn't what I meant when I said that players wouldn't be able to take breaks. I mean like how when playing arena you can play two games and then the next day play two more games and then three days later finish the run. With tournament mode you would have to be attentive to your game and be at your computer for over an hour all at once. Battlegrounds already takes about half an hour and with what you proposed simply building your decks will take even longer than that.
I like the idea of tournament mode, but I don't think you should have to invest so much time and attention to it. I am sure that if it worked like you suggested than most players wouldn't even bother to use their free run each week simply because there is so much effort involved.
I think it would work better if players only had to build 3 decks, and one of them would get banned so that you only had two decks to play with and you would build these before the tournament mode started. I understand about the limited set thing would make building the decks a bit harder, but you could easily put a "Tournament" filter in the deck building section to only show the sets that are being used. You would only need 2 decks because you wouldn't be fighting the same person more than once (assuming we are doing elimination and not swiss. And even if it is swiss than you shouldn't ever be fighting the same person more than twice). Also I would reduce the number of players so that it won't go on too long, having six players instead of eight wouldn't be the end of the world. Besides you could always just add the option to cue up against six or eight players.

This sounds great! I do have 2 issues though.
One, the rewards seem a bit small. Tournament mode seems like a big investment of time and gold, playing for over an hour straight only to make a 10 gold profit would be frustrating for a lot of players. You didn't mention exactly how much gold or dust would be rewarded, but it would have to be a lot. Only the top 3 players get a pack, and it looks like 3 and 4 don't get enough rewards to compensate for their investment. If only the top 2 players get to make a profit then this mode will be swarming with only the most competitive spikes and a LOT of salty people.
Two, it will take forever. You get forty minutes to make four decks, and then there will be four rounds of elimination, that can easily take over an hour and a half. Plus you cannot break in between games, you have to play throughout the entire thing. I just don't think a lot of people have that kind of time on their hands. If there wasn't a 'deck building' phase then it would take much less time, you could just make your decks before entering. Another thing you could do is have only 6 players instead of 8, this would also mean you only have to build 3 decks instead of 4.

My favorite piece of Magic art is by Seb McKinnon:

My other favorite piece of Seb McKinnon art which currently isn't on a Magic card (it is also the homescreen wallpaper on my laptop):

I just adore Seb McKinnon's style, the grainy, almost grim look of his art is amazing. I think the art style on a lot of the newer cards just looks too digital, but Seb McKinnon's art looks like it was sketched with a pencil, and finished and touched up by hand. There is just so much texture and feel on all of his cards.

I played some gwent and it was fun for a while but I couldn't stick with it.
The graphics didn't feel very interactive, Hearthstone does this better than any digital card game I have ever seen. The cards are round and have a nice personality to them (no, I don't mean the flavor is good, I mean the way they are shaped and the way they feel to play them). And one big thing that makes Hearthstone stand out from the other games is the setting, yu know where you are when you go to a different screen. When browsing your collection you feel like you are flipping through a binder, on the home menu you know you are in an inn looking down on the game board, and the background sounds in the game feel like you are playing with a person. Gwent has the same problem that the other games have, it doesn't feel fun and lively.
I hate the reward tree, so, so much. I just hate it, the whole concept of the reward tree. It takes 12 years to get through it all, and you know that you will never complete the whole thing so you have to plan ahead. But then after playing the game for 4 months I start to find this new portion of the tree appealing and I have to start from the beginning again. Plus, after you have been playing the game for a while you will get less and less free stuff. After playing the game for a year you will count yourself lucky to get 2 points on the tree a month. I just hate everything about the whole reward tree concept.
No RNG does feel refreshing sometimes, but the thing is (and I don't think a lot of people will admit to this) but RNG makes games more fun. When there is no RNG, the game gets repetitive and boring quickly. When there is no RNG, pulverizing matchups become so much more pulverizing. If my deck is not favorable against your deck, and we both play perfectly, then I will lose every single time and there is nothing I can do about it. It sounds nice on paper, when there is no RNG then you will be rewarded for being smart and making good strategic decisions, but in practice it doesn't work out as well. RNG helps bad players have a chance, plus, RNG does reward smart players. Imagine if there were no RNG in Hearthstone, then once someone found the 'best deck' then you could potentially write a perfect guide on how to pilot this deck to win every game. And then it doesn't matter if you are good or not, you can win every game because of this guide. RNG puts you in a position where you will have to make your own decisions, and sometimes you will have to change your game plan to accommodate for this unexpected thing. RNG is good.
Nice one. Thanks. Do you know some new decks for the Lich King?
What classes do you need to win with? If you don't care about winning with all nine and just need one win then jade druid is pretty good. He will destroy all of your minions that cost (3) or less, so you put in Jade Idol, some ramp, some draw (Gadgetzan Auctioneer is pretty sweet) and a lot of minions that cost < (3).
I tried the Nozdormu + Ysera Unleashed combo, where you could skip your opponent's turn by having the dream portal animations use all their time.
Wait, how does that work? Do you play Ysera unleashed and then hope your opponent plays nozdormu? Or do you try and get both Nozdormu and Ysera off of random effects and then do some weird something or other with Treachery as a warlock? Or . . .?
So many cool cards. I can't wait for the expansion to get here!
Wrath of Storm, Woe Strider, and Thirst for Knowledge are my favorites.
The art goes all the way to the end of the card, the text box is transparent, and there is a sort of 3-D effect when you move the card around.

Hadronox?
It was a horrible legendary, but then later became more powerful, but is now still a 'sitting duck'.
Nat Pagle?
Nevermind ArngrimUndying beat me to it. I will just go with the last of the 3 and guess Lorewalker Cho
"Would you like to hear a song about a magic tree?"
"no"
"Okay, well it goes like this"
Muckmorpher or Toxfin

Pit Crocolisk?
Skyfin?
Fear what lurks in the swamp It is a murloc, which is kind of like a frog, which lives in swamps.
But also up in the sky This particular murloc is in the sky
You can't even scream
When you hear its cry The murlocs that it summons from its battlecry don't trigger their own battlecries.
I am very excited for this set!
Devotion and Sagas are two of my favorite mechanics!
Mistress of Pain?

Usher of Souls?
This is so weird . . .
It is probably not intended to work this way and it will probably get fixed soon.
You can also remove it by reducing its toughness to 0 through things like -1/-1 counters or anything that reduces its base toughness.
Indestructible means damage and effects that say "destroy".
Leyline Manipulator?
