Ragnaros for the equipment giving 20Pvp if it works on all party.

I'm almost positive that Ragnaros' Sulfuras passive Health-gain is only for himself; the "cannot be Frozen" is the part that's for everyone, and it's phrased the way it is to differentiate the two effects. As for whether or not the Passive works from the bench I seriously doubt that: that would make Blazing Rune better than Sulfuras 'cause then you've got +3 Fire Damage hidden away on the bench, buffing all Fire abilities whilst being safe from removal.

That's not to say Rag would be bad for the comp - far from it - but I don't believe he can contribute while on the bench.

Hey OoC community! I have been lurking around this site for a while, but never made an account here until now. My username could be familiar from Hearthpwn, but on that site I cant have a detailed conversation about mercenaries without dropping a ton of links to OoC. Im very interested in the new game mode and I want to discuss strategies, and honestly the community here seems much better than on that other site.

Welcome :D Seeing new accounts is always a good thing...unless you count the occasional bot...or spammer...or jerk. But let's not think about those lol

Just one question about the Flavour of the Brewfest !

The Flavour should be something for a Party (like getting or giving Gifts and Drinks) , getting Drunk (starting fights or do something stupid) etc ?

is that correct? just wanted to know before i try to make a card :)

Yeah that's about right. Brewfest's real-world equivalent is Oktoberfest, the annual German folk festival. People associate with it drinking, eating, drinking, dressing up all folksy, and drinking.

    Sylvanas - strong for pvp

The Lich King - generally good unit that can fit into many comps

Diablo - niche usage for a fire/deamon comp

I'm coming around to this line of thinking.

Shadow comps with Vol'jin seem very strong for PvP, and Sylvanas can inflict Shadow damage with Banshee Bolt. Her one Deathrattle Equipment could wipe out an entire enemy team if planned correctly. She can also go hard on the Reclaimed Souls buff with someone like Samuro feeding her "dead" characters. In PvE she won't be nearly as good, though, so take that into consideration.

The Lich King is just good all around. Frostbite starts at a 9 but eventually becomes a 5-Speed, while the permanent slow effect increases. Death Coil has a lot of targetable damage for a Protector, it can heal, and it's Shadow. And of course Frostshield is just nuts against attackers. You can slot him into many teams.

I like Diablo a lot, especially if you pair him with TLK or Cairne for a "perma-slow" team. Slow everyone down with Frostbite, then slam them hard with Fire Stomp. The Demons are iffy - he doesn't bring much to the table for the group - but he could see use on a Fire comp. Diablo is just...not as good as the other two.

I bought both Diablo and TLK, but if I was only going to choose one based on their expected viability, it would definitely be The Lich King. He is the most well-rounded in regards to his usefulness, both in PvE and PvP.

I love the Leona skin, with her just trying to eat while a food-fight occurs around her. But what's with her meal: a burger + fries, a sunny-side-up egg, and some broccoli-lo mein dish? That's weird.

You don't have to buy a preorder if you don't want to: everything can be acquired by simply playing the game, and from what we've learned the game's "story" missions and the campfire Tasks can shower you with rewards. That and packs are only 100 gold apiece, like regular Hearthstone.

The preorders are more for getting a jump-start on your collection, or at least to guarantee that you'll have access to Diablo, The Lich King, and/or Sylvanas from the beginning. I definitely wouldn't call them mandatory, despite owning two of them myself.

How about some weaponized drunken-master shenanigans? Monk ain't a class, so I had to make do:

Could allow you to double-up on your attacks to the enemy's face, clear the board with some drunken in-fighting, or it could all backfire spectacularly!

Too little too late, perhaps? Those with genuine interest probably found other YouTube videos to watch up to this point, like Trump's, while those who didn't care about Mercenaries won't suddenly care now.

The Frost Ping Mage deck is a lot of fun, even more so with double-Battlecries for my two copies of Mordresh Fire Eye. Your hand fills up fast with those Ice Shards, though, especially if you use Reckless Apprentice.

That isn't bad at all; for whatever reason I was expecting a much-worse total. With my current savings I'll be able to drop about 40 packs-worth of coinage on Mercenaries (to go with my 100 preorder packs) while still allotting for a full village and the Stormwind mini-set.

I was never a fan of the Daycare Center except in the case of acquiring eggs. When it came to XP, I'd rather play the game "normally" and earn XP that way: feels like you're taking away from your overall playtime when you rely on these kinds of boosters. It's not like it'll come with coins to match your new-found level, so your abilities might be under-par.

I don't think I'll be using it much, myself.

Honestly I think I would consider bringing Tamsin over Sylvanas in your lineup, even if it does upset the 2/2/2 balance. You're vulnerable to Fighters, certainly, but Tamsin brings more to the table than Sylvanas does: Tamsin can block heals, summon a scaling Taunt minion, and gain Shadow Damage for boosting all of your main abilities. Combine her with Vol'jin's Shadow Weakness debuff and you can seriously shred people. Conversely, you're only playing Sylvanas because she's green: she lacks utility, provides nothing for her teammates, and her Attack-buff won't go off much - if at all - so you're down an ability. She's not playing to her strengths, whilst doing the bare minimum for the team at-large.

Fair enough :) Tamsin looks strong and fun, so the sooner the better, right?

It looks like Tamsin will be an easy craft if I don't find her in free packs -- one of the Barrens bounties offers her coins at a boosted rate -- and she's one of the mercs I want to start working on soon, hoping to create a good demon team (or shadow team, or both) eventually.

I don't know if I would recommend crafting a Rare Merc, considering no-dupe protection should mean you'll pull her relatively quickly. Granted I counted 17 Rare Mercs in the release lineup, but some of those are free; even if they weren't, roughly 20 packs to open them all is not a lot.

That being said if you're entirely F2P without dropping a single gold coin on packs (let alone actual $), I could see crafting her being the faster option, since you can grind that one particular Bounty. *shrugs* Still silly, in my opinion, but it's there as you noted.

I know there's a PvP mode, and I'm certainly looking forward to Mercs release....

But I'm going into this mode with the primary play/expectation of it being a PvE/rogue-lite mode.... are you not doing the same?

I'm pretty "PvP'd out" from regular-Hearthstone and Battlegrounds, so in regards to Mercs I'll probably just play it for a win-of-the-day bonus or a quest then go back to PvE.

When I said "meta" I meant it in both capacities: traditional PvP meta, but also PvE best-in-slot party and team compositions for general advancement. It's like what FortyDust alluded to: Normal will let you use basically whatever, while you'll (hopefully) have to really think about what you're bringing into Heroic. Thus, there will probably be a "PvE meta" as well, for getting past certain bosses/locations. That's all I was getting at. I was/am concerned 1/1/1 comps will not be a good idea in either situation, even if that's what I would like to do.

I'm actually pretty disappointed that Arcane is completely absent from the list of Protectors so far. I believe all the other schools are represented, so it kind of sucks that you cannot field a full, balanced team of Arcane synergy.

Do you want to, though? From what I've seen so far 1/1/1 might be a risky strategy, because while you're covering every Role you're also exposing yourself to double-damage in at least some capacity. You also spread out your damage such-that you can't burst down a major threat/boss with your superior color. There should be an Arcane Protector for when you want to do 2/1 comps in blue+red or red+green, but I don't know yet if fielding a "balanced" team is a good idea.

Yes, for easy bounties I'd definitely want something more like that.

But do you think 1-1-1 is a bad way to open in PvP, considering you have no idea what your opponent is going to open with?

Also, let's not forget that we've only seen non-Heroic, low-level PvE. These seem to be designed so that you can't possibly lose unless your party is severely under-leveled.  I hope and expect the more challenging battles to involve some full RGB comps, in which case you are open to critical damage no matter what team you field.

I suppose going RGB in PvP isn't the worst idea: you wouldn't want to be hard-countered by unfortunate team picking, so an RGB comp would let you "feel out" your opponent and adapt from your bench. And Heroic having RGB teams seems certainly possible.

My favorite theoretical team is TLK/Diablo/Xyrella, and that's a "balanced" team; I guess I'm just concerned that the "meta" won't let me play it, but I'm trying to predict a future that's still two weeks away so who knows lol

Nowadays, I only do the bare minimum of completing daily/weekly quests and occasionally play a few games of Duels.

This is basically me, but swap Duels for Battlegrounds. I'm holding out for Mercenaries to reinvigorate me, 'cause in general my enjoyment of the Hearthstone "platform" has been on the decline over time. I'm right on the verge of quitting traditional-Hearthstone for Mercs: just have to see how I like the new game.

I wouldn't blame any particular meta-event or what-have-you for my woes - I don't care about the meta - but I imagine it's just a general PvP-fatigue, heightened by my depression.
