Really big balance patch coming to Hearthstone! As teased yesterday, we're getting 20 nerfs and 10 buffs, with a few Arena changes as well. There are also a ton of Battlegrounds changes, which you can read about in the quote at the end. Here's the breakdown:
Standard Nerfs:
Wrath of C'Thun - Deals 6 damage instead of 7.
Domain of C'Thun - Gives +2/+2 instead of +2/+3.
Servants of C'Thun - Summons 2/2s instead of 2/3s.
M.O.T.H.E.R. - Now costs 10 mana.
Spurious Shiv - Now gives minions +2/+2.
Criminal Contract - Now summons 2-cost minions.
Sentenced for Smuggling - Steals only one card from the opponent.
Ritual of Summoning - Summons 2/4s.
Bat Mask - Target must be non-legendary minion.
Divergence - Cost increased to 7.
Unstable Prototype - Only gives +1 Attack.
Reach Equilibrium - Must cast 6 spells of each type to complete.
Sawbones - Now a 6-mana 6/3.
The Egg of Khelos - Khelos no longer has taunt.
Gargantuan Slitherer, Ritual of C'Thun, Tentacle Lash, Spawn of C'Thun, Watch Over, Dark Deacon - Not directly nerfed, but affected by C'Thun, Eye of the Empire's abilities being nerfed.
Wild Nerfs:
Battle at the End Time - Sir Finley, Sea Guide, Plot Twist and Gaslight Gatekeeper no longer progress the “empty your hand” part of the Quest
Reincarnate - Target must be non-legendary minion.
Kobold Illusionist - Summons the minion from hand and changes its stats to 1/1 (so no copy)
Mysterious Visitor - Copied cards have their cost reduced by (2).
Final Showdown - All Questline steps require an extra card to complete.
Buffs:
C'Thun, Eye of the Empire - All its abilities are quadrupled instead of tripled if you've activated all of them.
Tinker - Costs 1 instead of 2.
Flamespitter - Summons 3/2s instead of 2/2s.
Grafted Knight - Triple Blood Rune instead of double. One more Health.
Elder Word: Manifest - Summons 2 3/4s instead of a 5/5.
Setesh - Now a 6-mana 6/6.
Decimation - Costs 5 mana.
Aqir Swarmer - 4-mana 5/4. Larvae cost (0) (presumably base cost is still 1).
Aqir Goliath - Draws 2 cards.
Y'Shaarj, Titan Bane - Costs 9 mana.
All nerfed cards mentioned here will be available for a full dust refund, aside from C'Thun, Eye of the Empire, who received a partial buff, and Spawn of C'Thun, who will be available in Patch 37.2 due to a bug that doesn't allow for a refund currently.
We also have an Arena update:
Removed from draft pool:
Reduced Occurrence
Increased Occurrence
Kobold Miner (Mage and Rogue only)
Burrow Buster(Rogue and Mage only)
Some miscellaneous items:
The Assemble pool of cards was adjusted to prevent infinite triggers and unkillable minions.
Arrival of the Old Gods, Arrival of the Titans, and Dark Terraforming will all be made available for players who haven't completed the event early. All you have to do is own an Escape from Violet Hold Pack.
A looooot of Battlegrounds changes. Check the quote below for more information.
Finally, we have a couple of bug fixes:
Hearthstone
Fixed a bug that caused some Feats to grant less experience than intended. In the coming days, we’ll grant the missing XP to players who claimed the affected Feats before Patch 37.0.2.
Arena
Fixed a bug where Befuddled Summoner was not appearing in Drafts.
Quote From Hearthstone Hearthstone Updates
Standard
Dev Comment: Well met! We’ve been excited to see how much Reign of the Black Empire has shaken up the metagame. You’ve been experimenting with tons of new decks and archetypes, and the Old Gods have certainly made their presence known!
After using temporary bans to address a few early outliers, this balance patch gives us an opportunity to make more permanent changes and create more room for different strategies to succeed.
C’Thun, Eye of the Empire has emerged as the strongest of the four Old Gods, so we’re shifting some of its power away from the cards that activate its abilities early and into C’Thun itself. C’Thun will now quadruple its abilities instead of tripling them, making it an even juicier late-game payoff.
Warlock was one of the strongest users of C’Thun, so those changes should help rein it in. We’re also adjusting some of Warlock’s strongest strategies, including combos with M.O.T.H.E.R., Bat Mask, and Divergence, as well as its early-game board presence with Ritual of Summoning and Godfather Kazakus.
For Priest, we’re increasing the requirement for Reach Equilibrium and reverting our previous buff to Egg of Khelos, while strengthening a few newer Priest cards to help compensate.
We’re also adjusting Unstable Prototype to reduce early board strength across a variety of classes, especially Handbuff Death Knight.
Finally, we’re buffing several underperforming cards and strategies, with a particular focus on the other Old Gods. We can’t let C’Thun have all the fun! We’ve also got new free event cards on the way that will give you even more ways to build around the Old Gods across different classes.
We’re looking forward to seeing where the metagame goes next!

Wild
Dev Comment: We expect Wild to be home to some of Hearthstone’s most powerful strategies, but some combos can still push things too far. We temporarily banned Reincarnate to address one of those interactions with Mastermind Yogg-Saron, and with this patch, we’re making a more targeted change by preventing Reincarnate from targeting Legendary minions.
We’re also addressing an early-game combo involving Kobold Illusionist and N’Zoth, along with a few other cards and strategies that have been causing frustration in Wild for a while.
Battle at the End Time
Battle at the End Time itself is receiving no changes but we are weakening it by making it so Sir Finley, Sea Guide, Plot Twist, and Gaslight Gatekeeper no longer progress the “empty your hand” part of the Quest.

Assemble Pool Update
Dev Comment: Assemble pulls from a curated pool of cards, with the goal of creating some fun and unexpected combinations. A few combinations went a little too far, though, resulting in things like infinite triggers and unkillable minions. We’ve adjusted the Assemble pool to keep those outcomes from showing up.
Event Card Acquisition
We’re moving up the availability of the Arrival of the Old Gods, Arrival of the Titans, and Dark Terraforming card rewards from The War of Old & New event. Starting with today's Patch 37.0.2, you can obtain these cards by owning an Escape from Violet Hold Pack.
Dev Comment: The timing for automatically granting missed event cards can vary based on our content release schedule, and in this case, these cards would have remained unavailable for longer than we’d like. Rather than make you wait, we’ve decided to make a one-time change to shorten that window and grant them ahead of schedule.
We’ve heard your feedback on how event cards are made available, and we’re exploring ways to improve this process in the future. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, and we hope you enjoy getting your hands on these cards a little sooner!
Arena Updates
Dev Comment: Alongside the above balance changes, we’re making some additional adjustments to Arena to bring top-performing classes like Warlock, Shaman, and Death Knight more in line while giving a boost to Druid, Demon Hunter, Priest, Rogue, Mage, and Hunter.

Battlegrounds Updates
Dev Comment: There are quite a few changes in this patch, so let’s jump right in!
Starting with minions, our main goals are to bring down some of the stronger types, like Quillboar and Demons, while giving some help to underperforming types like Pirates.
We also want to call out Murlocs and Elementals specifically. While both types are underperforming overall, each has a particular strategy that has become too dominant and is warping how the type is played. For Elementals, that’s Living Azerite, and for Murlocs, it’s the combination of Expert Aviator/Diremuck Forager and Bile Spitter.
To address these strategies, we’ve reduced Living Azerite to +3/+3 and removed Expert Aviator. At the same time, we’re making several buffs across both types, including to Twilight Tidehunter, Shamanic Tidecaller, Unbound Tempest, and Ultraviolet Ascendant. Combined with other adjustments to individual cards and Trinkets, we hope these changes open up more viable strategies for both types.
Now, onto Dark Gifts. Overall, we want players to feel like they can use their Dark Gifts whenever it makes sense throughout the game. We’ve heard feedback that players feel too incentivized to use them during the early turns, so we’re adjusting their power to make holding onto them a more viable option.
We’re reducing the power of some early-game Dark Gifts, specifically Fresh Perspective and Toughened Shield, while buffing several mid- and late-game options, including Hostility, Resistance, and Incubation. We’re also making a rule change for turns 7-9 that guarantees at least two minions of your most common type in each Discover. Turns 10+ will continue to offer at least two minions of your most common type, as before. Together, these changes should give players more freedom to use their Dark Gifts when they want rather than feeling pressured to use them early.
The next season of Battlegrounds is just around the corner, and we’re excited to share more about what’s coming very soon. We’ll see you in the Tavern!
