The folks at InvenGlobal had a chance to sit down with Nathan Lyons-Smith, Hearthstone Executive Producer, and Brendan Sewell, Senior Game Design Manager to talk about all the new announcements at BlizzCon and they had some interesting insights to share. Here's a recap of the full interview of new information we've learned.
We can expect new types of events in the future with the updated Journal.
2v2 Tavern Brawls are happening and it's a major test.
The 2v2 Brawls were inspired by Battlegrounds Duos and had fun researching and prototyping the mode.
They want to get player feedback from Tavern Brawls to decide how to evolve and expand what 2v2 means in Hearthstone.
The Old Gods of Black Empire all have new personalities and playstyles vs their old selves.
They don't have any more details to share about the Monk class.
"Over the next 9 months, we plan to shake up existing systems and add new information and gameplay so that players can discover fresh, exciting elements every week."
There are no plans to turn Hearthstone into a physical card game.
When asked about "Why Monk?" Nathan had this to say.

Later, in broader player surveys, Monk also ranked high as a feature that would entice players to return to Hearthstone. Our goal is to listen to what players want to see and experience, creating gameplay that fits the Monk fantasy while remaining fun in Hearthstone.
