Frozen Festivities - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

Competition Theme: Frozen Festivities

As is tradition for our holiday competitions, you have three prompts to choose from - your card just needs to meet one to qualify!

  • Stay Frosty
    • Create a card that interacts with Frost spells. Simply being a Frost spell doesn't count.
      • We're looking for cards that'll be happy to see a little snow this Winter Veil!
  • Deck the Halls
    • Create a card that interacts with your deck.
      • Start putting up those deckorations!
  • Check It Twice
    • Create a card with "double" or "twice" in its textbox.
      • You've got to be really thorough to make sure you're getting it write!

Of course, you can always take on the challenge of making a card that meets all the requirements if you're feeling daring!

It's that festive time of year again, and another Winter Veil competition is upon us! Rejoice, be merry and have a happy end to the year!

  • Submission Phase: Starts on Mon, Dec 20 18:00 EST (GMT -0500). Runs until Sat, Dec 25 18:00 EST (GMT -0500)
  • Voting Phase: Starts on Sat, Dec 25 18:00 EST (GMT -0500). Runs until Sun, Dec 26 17:00 EST (GMT -0500)
  • Finalist Phase: Starts on Sun, Dec 26 18:00 EST (GMT -0500). Runs until Mon, Dec 27 18:00 EST (GMT -0500)
  • Winner Selected: After finalist voting concludes and we validate votes.

  • Got a feeling this art will be overused.

    He knows exactly what you want. But no sneaking in extra Legendaries, he's checked your deck twice!

  • The flavor connection between Cast When Drawn and unwrapping gifts is solid enough, right?

  • Freeze it to the limit.

  • Not my best idea ever, but I've wanted to try my hands at a working Flame Leviathan for some time.

    Nice idea, but I think you need to add "card" after "duplicate". I like how this is both a strong tool for Control decks and hits the flavor on spot at the same time. Great work!

  • New iteration of my card. Since the effect requires you to perform a miracle turn to make it worthwhile, I figured out a 1 mana minion will be better.

    I quite like this card. I guess it only shuffles one copy of each duplicate, right? For instance, if you have two Frostbolt, you'd get one extra (and not two).

    I find the name a bit too descriptive, if that makes sense. Other than that, pretty cool effect.

    I find the effects a bit too strong, considering you don't need to pay any mana to get them. Besides that, the names don't seem appropriate for legendary cards. I would come up with fancy names that are still related to their respective element. Something like Flamus and Glacius but less lame lol

  • I'll specify that it adds one copy to your deck, but I think I'll keep 'duplicate' as-is, since that's how the Highlander cards also phrase it.

    Very original! I'm assuming you could put both in your starting deck?

    I'm a big fan of these, but afraid you currently won't want to play them, because they're expensive and the Deathrattle will take a while to be effective. I enjoy the on-draw effect, but they simply work better with Battlecries. I'm also not entirely happy about the 'Fireball in the face' on the Fire form. I think giving it AOE would probably fix the 'let's just put this in my aggro deck and not worry about getting the Deathrattle'.

    If you do intend to give them names, may I suggest giving them a single name (because they are reincarnations of each other) and adding something along the lines of ", Fire Form" and ", Ice Form".

    I like the idea and it fits the prompt well. You've already adjusted the stats well, so I've got nothing to add.

    I was expecting to see festive/wintery cards for this comp, so those might get bonus points from me.

  • Less than 12 hours to ago in this competition as well! Better get those submissions in somewhere in between lunch, tea, second tea, dinner and dessert :)
