Immune is an ability that prevents characters from receiving any damage, and prevents the opponent from specifically targeting them with any type of action. However, it does not prevent destroy, restore Health, or other non-damaging effects on Immune characters, which can still be affected by randomly or automatically targeted effects, including area of effect.

Immune means permanent divine shield and permanent stealth. Immune minions cannot be target at all by your opponent. Think more along the lines of the keyword Protection in MtG. You essentially cannot interact with your opponent's immune minion directly; only cards that don't need a target can actually affect immune minions (e.g. Twisting Nether).
It definitely could be made a lot clearer, but at least it didn't cost you the win.
So basically Immune is like combined "Cannot be damaged" and "Stealth" on one target
Still the In-Game description reads "Immune characters can't be damaged", which is true but falls short when considering what immune effectively means.
I'm a beta player and I feel this keyword is way too complex. Blizzard, please nerf, I'm confused!
But seriously: This is not what the keyword describes at all!
That's the second keyword that behaves in other ways than I would have expected in less than a week, and I've been playing since 2015.
(The other being Freeze, which actually only "consumes" one attacking opportunity. Example: My opponent had a minion on board on their turn which was ready to attack, but they chose not to do so. They proceeded to play Snowfall Guardian, which froze said minion. When their turn was over, the minion immediately thawed and was able to attack again on my opponent's next turn. That would not have been possible if they had attacked with it on the intital turn of the sequence. At least, that's what I've gathered from more experienced players on Discord.)
But the freeze mechanic worked like that from the beta. Why were you surprised by it if you played from 2015?
PS: i really hope for immune to become targetable by battlecries :)
It should be targetable for "destroy" effects, independent of whether it's a battlecry, spell or hero power.
Damaging battlecries should be targetable but with no effect, just for the continued confusion and key word's integrity. :P
