Blizzard's Known Issues for Hearthstone's 29.2 Patch

We've got a bunch of known issues for the new patch, including an unfortunate issue with Macs being unable to buy things in the store.

Also sucks that Cariel Roame and Alexstrasza are removed from the BG pool for now due to issues.

Patch 29.2 is here, bringing with it Battlegrounds Season 7, Battlegrounds Duos, and much more! This is a big patch, so there are a few known issues we’re tracking. Refer to this post for updates throughout this patch.

The known issues we’re tracking this patch include:

  • [Shop] Mac desktop clients are unable to access the Shop in patch 29.2. We’re working on a solution to this issue. In the meantime, you can still make any purchases through the web shop or mobile devices.
  • [Cosmetics] There is a bug where the default Coin is generated in-game instead of your Favorited Coin. This is scheduled to be fixed in the next major patch.
  • [Added 4/16] [Collection] The team is investigating reports of players unable to open their last pack in a stack.
  • [Added 4/16] [Battlegrounds] Using Reno’s Hero Power on Persistent Poet results in a visual bug where it looks like adjacent Dragons are also turned Golden.
  • [Added 4/16] [Battlegrounds] The team is investigating player reports of getting Floop’s achievements without earning them.
  • [Added 4/16] [Hearthstone] The team is tracking reports of the mulligan “confirm” sometimes not working.
  • [Added 4/16] [BNet] The team is investigating why players who are in Battlegrounds appear as “Spectating Dragonblight” in the friends list.
  • [Added 4/16] [Shop] The team is investigating reports that the screen will sometimes remain blurred after purchasing a product from the shop. In the meantime, clicking through the blur or restarting the client seems to resolve this issue.

Battlegrounds Pool changes:

  • Cariel Roame and Alexstrasza have been temporarily removed from the Hero Pool due to a bug. (Aranna Starseeker and Queen Azshara are also still temporarily removed from the Hero Pool).
  • Skycap’n Kragg, Zephrys the Great, Reno Jackson, and Dinotamer Brann have been temporarily removed from the Hero Pool (Duos only) due to various bugs.
  • Fluidity has been removed from the Spell Pool for crimes.
  • Storm Splitter has been temporarily removed from the Minion Pool (Duos only) due to a bug.

  • Oh my Yogg, have you seen the changes to the daily and weekly quests? I'm reeeeeally pissed about those. From what I've seen so far all the quests have gotten harder and reward more XP - but of course the changes have not been made proportionally. Like, the "win 5 games in ranked" quest now requires you to win 15 (!) games and grants something like +20% XP. There's also a lovely quest that wants you to play 60 (!!) Minis. Thanks, I hate it! To be fair, I'm a hyper engaged player and might even profit from this bullshit, but the majority of players isn't and that's one horrible change for anyone with a casual approach to the game. What the fuck, Blizzard?

  • If the increase in XP was equal to the increase in the requirements, the community outcry would be far less. This will probably be another 'debacle' like when the new Rewards Track was first introduced. It will most likely be dialed back a tiny little bit to the amount they were aiming for anyways. Anything extra beyond that amount would have been a bonus. A portion of the community will (actively) support this decision. Why? I do not know. Yes, XP is 20% more but the requirements are 200% more. These are clearly not equal proportional increases.

    Blizzard is seemingly telling people like me who have been loyal for a decade and are already on the verge of quitting to finally call it a day. After playing for 10 years and having spent a considerable amount of money on Hearthstone, I have completed almost everything there is to complete in this game (53870 achievement points). This might actually be the final needed push for me personally. I was thinking of completing the last few remaining achievements left to do and probably go on a hiatus or downright uninstalling afterwards, but maybe this will happen sooner rather than later now. As a completionist myself, this is really frustrating to me. What a disappointment in the anniversary year of Hearthstone!

  • I like the idea of the weekly quests lasting longer, but yeah, the math doesn't add up. If you've doubled the amount of Battlecries/Murlocs/Excavate cards that I need to play, then the XP should be (roughly) doubled. 

    I'm sure Blizz has the data on how many players have no quests left by Friday, and this is their "solution" to that problem. Needs some fine-tuning. 

  • With the amount of outcry on reddit, I'm sure the new weekly quests will get updated to become easier to complete. At the very least they need to cut the requirement in half and keep the same amount of XP. Winning 7/8 games in ranked or playing 30 minis is much more managable. But yes this update is appualing and this change to weekly quests completely ruins all the good changes that were added. 

  • I was hyping myself up for some BG games yesterday, but after seeing what happened to the XP quests, I closed the client. If they won't respect my time, I'll just stop playing.

    I've wavered between staying and quitting Hearthstone a couple times now - mostly due to the ratio of expense/enjoyment - but now I have to consider that they just don't want people like me. I play a couple times a week when my dailies fill up, instead of multiple games every single day. They're trying to push me to play more, but in reality I would rather just bail and focus my resources elsewhere.

  • The quest change is absolute insanity and is not the way you increase engagement in the game. I'd love to know what business unit said we need to make quests take longer and provide rewards that are not inline with the time.

  • There is no way I can complete these in one week. With the old weekly quests I already didn't always manage to complete them before the week ended.

    I'm seriously considering whether I should quit the game. I don't like the feeling of being squeezed for money. And there are plenty of other good games to play.

    I guess I'll stop playing until they roll it back; ultimately the people responsible for monetization probably care more about seeing the numbers drop than about any other form of protest.

  • Well, the expected response has been announced. Everything is still going according to their plans. The XP part remains capped as is apparently, so let us see how 'much' they will dial down the requirements part. I bet my left shoe it will still be quite disproportional, but how far apart they will be after the update is now the question.

    Blizzard is literally saying: "We want you all to work much longer, but overall you are going to be paid less (XP) for it."

    Now imagine your boss would say something to you like this, what would your response to such insanity be? 🤔

    Obviously, they want players to spend more time in the game. Adding incremental tiers on top of the quests would have done the trick, really. They clearly have the technology available, just copy and paste it from the existing achievements system. Everything would be the same for the casuals and more engaged players would have something extra to work towards and thus play more. Instead they chose the bad option to lump everyone together and make things much worse for most people and also mess with the XP versus requirements ratio.

    Ultimately, if the updated weekly quests are going to be still too disproportional, then make them infinitely rerollable. Let players mulligan these ridiculous quests over and over, so at the very least we can decide how to suffer through the most appealling ones in order to still get the XP.

  • It all feels planned: first triple the requirements for +20% XP, then bring it down to double (*) but still only give +20% XP. Make it sound like they caved in to community backlash while still significantly worsening the economy for many players.

    In itself this wouldn't be enough to make me quit, but it's part of an overall trend to monetize ever more aggressively. Back when it was only cosmetic, I would roll my eyes and move on, but now it's starting to affect how much money it costs to build a decent collection. I'm not interested in playing more and I don't want to pay more for the amount of time that I am playing the game. It seems they're on a course to make the game too expensive for me and if I'll be forced to quit anyway in the not too distant future, I might as well quit now and save myself some frustration.

    (*) They haven't announced the new requirements, just said that they will be between the old and the current amounts. I have a gut feeling it will be right in the middle, but that is just a guess at this point. Edit: The new numbers differ per quest, but on average they indeed roughly doubled compared to the old situation, for example 5 wins -> 15 wins -> 10 wins.

  • I guess OutOf has given up on reporting actual Hearthstone news. The quest drama is the biggest Hearthstone story so far this year, but all we see is the trickle of uninteresting non-news spoonfed to the site by Blizzard.

      I have another job, one that usually leaves me tired at the end of the day. I'm not alone in this regard, either: many of us are volunteering our time when able to do so. I know that means sometimes we can't keep up, or things fall through the cracks, but I had every intention of addressing the Hearthstone drama. Believe me, I wasn't letting this one go.

  • ... I'm seriously contemplating asking for a refund on the season pass - changing the terms and rate of exp mid way throught a month/season is leaving me with a bitter taste in mouth ...

  • Even though i agree almost all of the statements about quests and pass bonus, i don't blame blizzard for that.

    I'm blaming who keeps buying its products even though they periodically increases the game's monatization more aggresively in years. Sorry but forum posts and reddit are not place to show your response and reaction. That reaction should be shown as not buying its products when they do their bad act.

    It's simple real life thing. Noone stops benefiting from something if the situation keeps hapenning.

    I mean, it is not first time they are doing it and people kept buying even though they don't agree. Companies only understands your reactions when they saw sale amounts, your forum posts and reddit posts are nothing.

    As you can see, they are toying with you as they actually plan to increase it by 2x but increasing it for 3x so when people react they can decrease it. Mass of people will be glad with this change (or their act like decreasing) or just don't care and keep buying believe me.

     

    I'm glad i stopped buying from blizzard for Heartstone since rastakhan's rumble. I still enjoy playing this game but it can't take a single dim from me anymore. You should do the same or just stop playing at all.

     

    The  thing i am actually sad about is BG Duos. It is just shadowed by all the drama and it is most fun stuff in years for hearthstone in my opinion. They just shot a bullet on their own leg...

  • While I get your general point I still disagree overall. If everybody went F2P the game would be dead. Hearthstone is my favorite game, I enjoy it a lot and one of the reasons I'm fine with spending some €€ on it is that I think the devs are doing a great job of entertaining me and have earned my support. I'm not naive, I know that Blizzard is a huge company and the usual capitalism stuff happens, but there's got to be some middle ground between F2P and EA FC -like monetisation. My feelings probably just boil down to "I get something out of it, I pay something back" - and as long as there are no ads in the game, my time spent playing it does not do much for the people who provide it for me.

      This might be one of the more radical things I say, but if enough people felt slighted such that they stopped investing into their fun-time with Hearthstone, to such an extent that it actually threatened Blizzard's bottom line and they subsequently pulled the plug on the game, then perhaps it was time for Hearthstone to go. I've always liked you from our time interacting via custom cards and the like, but I genuinely hate when people say that line. It might not be your general intention, but the sentence implies that you're willing to overlook the impact they've had on other paying customers so long as the game continues to exist for you to play. And that's not okay :/

      If everybody did go F2P - because they felt they could no longer support the game monetarily - the game would be dead, and that fate would frankly be deserved.

    It wasn't my intention to overlook Blizzard's bad behaviour at all, I just haven't reached the point that most of you seem to be standing at yet. There's a middle ground between outright boycott and buying every offer in the store, where I'm trying to support my favorite hobby with real money purchases but still gang up with other players and criticize the companies wrongdoings on social media to induce change. That sounds kinda pathetic now that I type it out, but afaik there's little else I can do and it seems to have an impact after all.

    This is frustrating. I agree with your criticism and I have empathy with your anger. I still don't want to give up playing and supporting Hearthstone.

    Is this really a black and white situation? Has Blizzard fucked up so bad that you can't stay online friends with someone who still buys their Hearthstone products? Maybe I have to take another look at the whole situation again. I'm sorry. :(
