How do I Spell Damage
- Tempo Mage
- Wild
- Ranked
//IN PROGRESS//
Throughout the history of Hearthstone, Spell Damage has just kind of.... been there. Occasionally it's had support. Arcane Blast, Arcane Watcher and Spellbook Binder have all popped up to no real success, until Scholomance.
Scholomance is the first set to have real, strong Spell Damage support. With Cram Session providing a better draw than Arcane Intellect, Primordial Studies allowing you to pick the best Spell Damage for the situation, and Ras Frostwhisper to give your opponent headaches getting anything to stick, Spell Damage is in a better place than it's ever been.
I've taken this to Diamond 5 two seasons in a row, and I'm confident that it can make legend, if only I can find the time, so I thought I'd write up a guide, and get peoples take on it.
How to Play:
Essentially, the goal of this deck is to use cheap spells to control the board, while trying to build Spell Damage to allow you to burn opponents down. Arcane Missiles and Shooting Star shine here, decimating aggressive boards, which is where we'll be picking up most of our wins. Against slower opponents, we need to try and burn down opponents before they can take control of the board, constantly presenting new threats to be dealt with, and trying to stop them generating their own momentum.
Against Aggro (Assume Aggro on Rogue, Hunter, Warlock, Demon Hunter, Warrior, Druid) :
Mulligan: Shooting Star, Primordial Studies, Violet Spellwing, Tainted Zealot
Our main aim against aggressive decks is to shut down their early game. We have no healing, so if we take too much damage, we'll be beaten down before we get our burn going. The reason I say to assume half of all classes will be Aggro, is that by if you mulligan against Aggro and it turns out to be a slower deck, you have time to look for the right answers. If it's the other way round, you'll be dead before you find the right answer.
Special Case (Mage)
Against Mana Cheating (Assume Shaman)
Mulligan: Polymorph, Shooting Star, Primordial Studies (The latter two in case it's a totem/even deck)
Against Control (Assume Priest, Paladin)
Mulligan: Solarian, Frostbolt, Tainted Zealot, Primordial Studies, Violet Spellwing
Neither of these are strictly control decks
