Just finished rating all 135 cards in all 4 categories. I'm not posting in the threads because I have nothing to add to the discussion for the vast majority of them.
My votes are pretty much wild guesses if I'm honest. Maybe I could've done some research on possible synergies or discover pools. And I probably have no business rating how good a card is in Wild, but I did so anyway.
For the cards that we commented on from this page, where can we find them? They are not the same comments page as the Scholomancy guide. :(
The location where you need to comment for credit is found on the "Discuss this Card" buttons under each card in the Scholomance guide.
135/135 rated, 0/135 commented. It's a little disappointing to know that there won't be any giveaways this time around, but if COVID is impacting ad revenues that makes sense. I don't mind having taken the time to rate the cards as they've been revealed, and it does make me feel more involved in this community. I don't have the time to think up a reasonable comment for cards, and have too much dignity to post thoughtless comments just for the sake of having a comment on them.
I forgot that the achievement was for discussion participation, and I commented on all the cards description. Shame on me lol
We - collectively - are generally so wrong in our predictions and rating. I'm glad I can contribute to this hype-blinded frenzy and induce some of you in the wrong* direction and reading of a set too. Looking forward to the compediuum <3
*Also read misjudged, biased, un-calculated guess, poorly assumed or plain and simple misleading
I had started doing this before the release of this article, but it is a good thing this article was released because I was commenting on the card pages and would have gotten 0 credit for my effort.
Back to square one!
(Thank you for including links to all of the card forums on this page!)
I'll comment here. Thanks Flux and co for all the site improvements, especially the new and simplified card search page: https://outof.cards/hearthstone/cards/?collectible=yes
This page also helps with tracking remaining card discussions as previously mentioned. Keep up the good work, it is getting noticed!
Glad you enjoy both it and the recently updated card search!
The card search was a long time coming. I'm thankful we can wrap that new tech that was built for it onto other parts of the site now because database forms have not been the best around these parts
I really like this site. I visit it every day, because it always has the news that I am looking for about Hearthstone.
In my personal opinion, mobilizing the community to spam all card ratings and threads is a step into the wrong direction. We will just end up with a lot uf unqualified comments about the cards and basically random ratings.
I like the effort you guys made to make site cosmetics a thing and I think it's not an issue at all for the community if no paid giveaway is in the cards. But please don't decrease the quality of geniune comments and ratings on this site.
Just my three cents.
I don't disagree with you. There are definitely negatives when we incentivize discussing these cards and even rating them. I believe the potential benefits outweigh the negatives though.
To start, with votes. We get enough "legitimate" votes that I don't believe we're going to skew this in the wrong direction. Yes, there will always be some bad apples who go through and vote the same 1 star or 5 stars on every single card, but it shouldn't hurt things for our compendium because there are way more people voting properly. We also have the option of removing votes before compendium ships if anyone seems to be manipulating things. I haven't had to pull that trigger yet and don't think it'll happen.
Now, discussion. This is the one that has the best chance of going downhill. There are a few things I want to bring up though.
It gets more people to participate long-term
I actually had just brought this up on our site support channel on Discord. I've noticed that when we do these sorts of things, so people will sign up for an account or actually login for a change and start having meaningful discussion on the cards. This brings people into our community in a contributing role which is awesome! Some of these people do stick around and participate in other forums of discussion on the site too which gives us more activity, creating some nice positive ripples.
It can be hard to jump into a community, intimidating even. Giving people an easy way to jump into things is very important and something I think we could do better. Hearthstone is old, and a lot of us have known each other for some amount of time longer than Out of Cards has existed, so that can be tough to break into.
These are only initial reviews
A lot of what people are saying about these cards is going to be hilariously incorrect once the expansion comes out. One could argue it isn't even worth having the threads available since no one is going to be able to have a proper discussion anyway. This is especially true if one considers that the card threads that are created earlier in the reveal cycle have nowhere near a complete picture of what Scholomance looks like. Should we consider that to be a lower quality discussion because pieces of the puzzle were missing? Some might argue it is.
Lazy people don't usually participate
Looking back at the past couple of these, some people end up rating a handful of cards or with some "low quality" discussion on, again, only a handful of cards. It takes a LOT of effort to rate and discuss every card that gets revealed and it's clear even when we did card pack giveaways for participation, so it isn't always worth it.
Also, what one person may consider "low quality" or "unqualified" isn't necessarily the case and can be a bit of a crummy way of looking at it (I'm guilty here at times). Not everyone is able to correctly articulate all their thoughts, some people just want to say something is cool without giving it a full review, and others may simply want to ask questions that as newer players they don't understand but veterans it is first nature. Being more inclusive to all these types of people makes us a better, stronger community. We should try and keep things positive if possible and encourage participation.
With all that said though, if there are people just spamming nonsense, such as copy-pasting the same thing to every thread, I have zero issues with wiping their posts out. You can report posts you truly believe do not belong there and we can make a call on it. To those reading this comment, reporting should only be reserved as a last resort for spam and not just something you may consider "low quality".
I think that if people care for cosmetics on the site they would care for quality discussion.. as one that commented on every card since.. GVG even in hearthpwn yeah sometimes you feel like commenting cause you want your opinion be heard and sometimes.. you just seem to repeat what everyone else said.
But in the end at least the threads are more lively than the days of RoS or even DoD before the tavern crawler format.
It will spark some discussion even if cards aren't that interesting some people might bring up interesting points..
there were some sleeper cards that you can see their discussion about their applications which were made mainstream much later.
Just making people at least post their thought even if it's one sentence is interesting really. and some people (like me) tend to read them anyway so it brings some interest to the forums.
Thanks for your reply man!
You gave me/us some insight into the thought process that went into Tavern Crawl. From the outside, it's always easy to judge, but when you are on the inside of things (like you), you sometimes see certain aspects differently because you have more information about what's going on. So your post helped me a lot to understand.
I absolutely agree with you that this community should always stay on the positive side and that it can be hard for newcomers to get into the game. Also what you said about early judgment of the cards, while the rest of the set is unknown, is of course also very true. Nobody - not even the pros - get all their predictions right, but I don't consider those early comments "low quality", as people enjoy discussing and meme-ing the new cards.
"low quality" was meant more in the sense that people would just comment "+1" - basically spam. But I guess, I just assumed the worst in people (it happens...). We will see.
As I said before, I really like this page and the non-toxic community. I even submitted a few ideas for improving this site in the forums a while ago. I just don't want it to become a spam-fest.
Haha, yeah, some of those pros get predictions so horrible wrong that it is incredibly amusing.
I like to give people an idea of what thoughts go into stuff behind the scenes when possible (usually when people bring it up) so I'm glad I was able to let you in on that.
Thanks for contributing and being a part of everything here. Never stop!
Thank you so much for the tracker in DoD I missed some threads because I didn't check.
and in AoO I had to check EVERY thread on the site to make sure I commented and voted.
this makes life much easier thanks a lot.
Who cares about giveaways I wouldn't win anyway I am not that lucky :(
The Spam-age will be on a whole new level these days I guess :)
Hoping for the same thing for LoR :)
oh this is a fantastic addition, now I have links to all the forum articles I need to comment on!
Thank you very much!
This is really thoughtful. I just feel bad commenting on the cards I have no opinion on lol.
You can always follow up on an already existing discussion or someone else's comment, it doesnt have to be a pure card evaluation ;-)
